The Joint Admissions andMatriculationBoard on Thursday assured theUnifiedTertiary MatriculationExaminationcandidates that they wouldknow theiradmission status by next week.The JAMB Registrar, Prof. DibuOjerinde,who announced this in Lagos,thereforeurged them to check theInternet nextweek to confirm their properplacementin the nation’s tertiaryinstitutions.He spoke on the sidelines of theopeningceremony of the of a three-dayTechnicalCommittee Meeting on 2014Admissionsto Tertiary Institutions at theUniversityof Lagos.Ojerinde also announced that nofewerthan 700, 000 candidates wouldsecureadmission to the nation’stertiaryinstitutions for the 2014/2015academicsession. No fewer than 1.6mcandidatessat for the examination,comprising thePaper-Pencil Test, Dual Basedtest andthe Computer-Based Test lastApril andMay.According to him, the NationalUniversities Commission,National Boardfor Technical Education and theNationalCommission of Colleges ofEducationhave this year increased thecarryingcapacity of the schools undertheirsuperintendence.Ojerinde, who had earlier urgedtheparticipants of the TCM toendeavour toconclude the session on time,said thecall became imperative toenable theboard to finalise its admissionprocessthis year.He added that the earlyconclusion ofthe exercise, especially the cutoff marksfor candidates’ first-choiceuniversities,would also prepare the board tomakeadmission provisions for othercandidatesin their respective schools ofsecondchoice.The JAMB boss added, “There isnogainsaying the fact that thechallenge ofthe rising demand for access totertiaryinstitutions in Nigeria meansthat theentry process must be well-managedand seamless. It is for thisreason thatthe Board expects everyinstitution toabide by the admissionstimetable asalready agreed upon at thePolicyMeeting of July 1, 2014.“We must adhere strictly to theguidelines which stipulates a60:40Science/arts ratio, 45,35,20 ofFederalratio, 70:30 of Technology/non-Technology ratio, as well as theratio of40:40:20 (merit/catchment area/educationally less developedarea) forstate owned institutions.“As a reminder, it has alsobecomeimperative to stress once more,that alladmissions for the 2014/ 2015academicsession will end on Friday,October 31,2014. All institutions are herebyenjoined to adhere to thestipulateddate, as late submissions willnot beentertained. |
