“Seasons come and go, Flowers die and sprout anew, but I will always be there for you” How would you feel if someone speaks these words to you? Amazed? Happy? Indifferent? Majority would feel good about themselves, who doesn’t need a reassurance from time to time that there is still someone that cares for them in this cruel cruel world. Now imagine resting all your hopes on that person that has made you put faith in them, pour all your hopes on them and has made you start building a future around them, imagine them suddenly packing their bags one morning and leaving you all by yourself, without a prior notification, or maybe they did, after weeks of acting up and sending subtle signals you failed to notice? Or perhaps all was well before they suddenly chose to leave? Imagine how shattered that could make someone. Emotional disappointments like that are difficult to get over, it is similar to getting stabbed in the back by someone you trusted so much. It is mostly difficult to get over and months or even years of sleepless nights are invested in that bank of pain, which wouldn’t yield any interest except loss upon losses. However, it is high time we stop letting such get the better of us, we shouldn’t just think our world revolves around just one person, many common sense writers have gotten rich from just telling you over and over again that you shouldn’t rely too much on a person but this could affect you negatively in the long run because you would find it hard to trust, care or love again, the best thing is to have a balance, life shouldn’t be too much of a single thing, you should rest your oars once in a while but never stop paddling else you are at the risk of sinking and when you sink, you may drown! Except you find a way to swim yourself out of that situation. Accept humans for who they are, our differences make us who we are, our uniqueness makes life much more interesting. So sip your cup of tea or bottle of water and calmly accept the fact that everyone would eventually leave. And those that never did would still leave for no matter how long they stay around you, they will die. Everybody leaves eventually. Source: kanzahsays.com |
Where are Nigeria feminists when you need them? Where are Nigerian activists when someone is being cheated? On holidays! In case you don’t know, a news has been making rounds for the past two weeks about a woman ganging up with some other women to beat a well known Nigerian entertainer, her offense? Making a movie about how a man molests his own daughter, their child! According to the entertainer, her friend has confided in her with tears in her eyes, saying she does not know what to do, really? That she suspects her husband is using her for rituals, are you kidding me?! This same woman was said to have came in the latest jeep the day she went to tell her tale of woes the to this entertainer. The entertainer out of sheer pity to free the girl from shackles of sexual slavery or perhaps make cool profits, either way turned the story into a movie using the name of the man, his daughter and his wife! This led to threats to the entertainer’s life and she was asked to put down the movie from the net, of course she refused, she was beaten up in her own house by the mother of the girl that is being abused! She released a press statement few days back to report new threats to her life, really? This is someone that has successfully exposed the what a father is doing to his own daughter. I wonder when women would stop antagonizing each other, even in the face of rape, the most horrible thing that could happen to a woman, this woman still protects her husband’s “dignity” and fights it out with a woman trying to throw light on her daughter and a million other girls plight. I read the news in the paper with a frown on my face, and as usual I expect the law to take it course by sweeping the matter under the rug after the hype to bring criminals to book. Something that never happens, many pedophiles are still walking free and abusing other defenseless kids, notorious rapists repeat the same crime over and over again until people take the law into their own hands, such was the case of a well known rapist in Lagos who was eventually killed by angry mob after raping a minor. This beast spares no woman not even the old and as usual he was said to be using them for rituals, so? That doesn’t give the police an excuse for not throwing him behind bars. The fortunate minors who get molested are helped by NGOs who pays for their treatment, the unfortunate ones either die while this abominable act is being performed or from complications arising from lack of adequate care. Most times nobody fights the cause of a rape victim, so even get jeered at on the streets, others develop psychological trauma from encountering their assaulter everyday when he ought to be behind bars or better still killed. It still baffles me, why would a man get sexually aroused by a baby with underdeveloped organs, is it the flat chest or the equally flat buttocks? What makes Uncles pounce on their niece or nephews, why would such matters get resolved out of court? How will the baby feel when he or she has to live the better part of her life still seeing the same uncle? And when Uncle does it again everybody takes it with a pinch of salt. Afterall “blood is thicker than water”. The word RAPE is now becoming more frequent by the day, from pages of newspapers, to news reported on the radio and the TV, to online reports. Women are no longer safe, pregnancy does not protect women from this beasts as some don’t hesitate to pounce on heavily pregnant women! Thousands of women get raped everyday, hundreds of boys get raped everyday, RAPE is slowly but surely raping us all out of existence unless something drastic is done! Source: kanzahsays.com |
There are more than 1.2 billion people under the age of 30 in Africa, accounting for over 60 per cent of our total population. In some of our member states, particularly in Nigeria, the youth demographic rises to 70 per cent. Youth are talented, knowledgeable and ambitious, and are making a difference every day in all fields of work and as leaders in their communities. They play an integral part in advancing development, democracy and peace, and in promoting Commonwealth values such as respect and understanding. Despite their drive and achievements, young people’s contribution to society often goes unrecognized, nor are they adequately invested in or included in decision-making processes such as political and economical matters. At the same time young people also face formidable issues of unemployment, discrimination and lack of access to education and healthcare. Left unresolved, these challenges will impede national development while hindering each individual’s personal potential. “When our children are assured of survival and health, provided with a good education, protected from war and violence, and when youth participate in the democracy and development of their countries, then Africa will be set to claim the 21st century” – Kingsley Y. Amoako, a Ghanaian-born international civil servant and diplomat who led the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in 1995-2005 at the rank of UN Under-Secretary-General. It is no time but the best time to draw effect to the fact that youth participation and action in the smooth running and political ideology of our immediate environ is a turn down and total frown and slap on the idea that we have intellectual and democratic minded youth in Africa, considering the instance of the activities in the west and the inclination and projection of their youth in the society plan and diplomatic relations cannot be reiterated. According to my own conviction about youthful participation in Politics and in line with international overview of democracy and good governance, it is when the people are freely involve in the design of their direct participation in managing their own affairs without imposition of a third party’s influence or dictating terms. It is inclusive perfection in the decision making process between and amongst the society in governance. In other words, Youth involvement must be based on the particular conditions of each society, but also on the shared values of the equal dignity and rights of all human beings. We practice democracy in the fairest and uptight use, for democracy to work, it requires a well-functioning judicial system based on the principles of the rule of law and a just political settlement with equally shared ratio of age participation. This is very important in a political stability of very state, It is essentials because it allows free and fair elections, functioning political parties, independent media and vibrant civil society organizations and NGOs that can operate freely for welfare and development of state. In democracy and good governance, there is a political, social and economic accountability of people in positions of power for their actions due to the pure and ideal mindset of youths and sting towards true representation. The involvement and participation of all with the attitude of respect to all and injury to none, the ideal importance and rationality behind the formation of democracy by the founding fathers will not be jeopardized so is the effect of rule of law, checks and balances enforcement. Nevertheless at the expense of all this not in suitable place, it is issued on our shoulders, when I say “our” I mean “youth” to create a better and more comfortable arena for the practice of justice, because to present ourself with task of this huge importance, we have to showcase the very vast level of intellectual assimilation and orientations. This recommendations are prescribe to the youth for easy policy making and involvement in nation building and betterment, so as to declare their own availability for immense Establishment of National Youth Policy. The political leadership and indeed the Ministry responsible for youth, sport and recreation should design national youth service council where they will be trained to participate in national building that constitute democracy and good governance. They current youth Unions and associations at various levels are not organized with competence to neither participate in democracy and good governance nor challenge the government in the management of public affairs. Professional Dialogue on Democracy and Good Governance: There is a great concern about youth coming together and discuss issues by emphasizing the important role that youth can play in addressing corruptions at all level of public and private sector, so that it demand accountability and concrete actions from their government to address youth unemployment. There are many jobs here in Nigeria, only that wrong people are place at wrong places. when right people are unemployed. This confusion must be corrected to allow youth to work. Youth cannot be compared to older people because youth are engine of change; they are easily transformable into what is needed for betterment of the nation and they should not remain unused. Definition of Youth and 15% Affirmative Action: I call upon the youth to come together to discuss amongst themselves and present their uniform position to National Constitutional Commission for inclusion in the constitution. Different youth group have already expressed their opinion by defining a youth as a person from the age of 18 to 40 years old. The government must also consider 15% affirmative action for youth in allocation of public offices at all levels of government and this must be expressly provided for in the constitution.
