The Federal Government on September 4, 2013, Wednesday, rebuked university lecturers, ASUU, over their ongoing indefinite strike. Mr. Labaran Maku, the Minister of Information, announced the government’s attitude to the strike while speaking to the reporters on September 4, 2013, Wednesday, after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, in Abuja. “This country belongs to all of us, if we all insist that every sector problem must be completely solved, we will down tools we will not work, then the country will stop working,” he said. The Minister of Information also pointed out that if all the sectors of government decide to down their tools until all their problems are solved, the country would shut down. Mr. Labaran Maku insisted that the Government implements a 2009 agreement it had with the Union. “We are partners with ASUU, we are friends. They are our patriots and we understand the critical role that the universities teachers are doing to create a new society that we are hoping to have. “But at the same time, this is a reality question that we need to look at and we have to put the nation first,” he said. The Minister also said the Federal Government has spent a lot on the development of tertiary education across the country, appealed to the lecturers to have a rethink on its demands by considering the fact that there are many other competing demands from other sectors. He said outside of security, education is one of the sectors the government had expended a lot of money on. “I know all of us desire more from the system but the truth is that there are limitations and from the limitations we have, we believe that ASUU really needs to do rethink and ensure that we reopen our universities because really we are feeling the pain of our children being at home and this indeed is completely avoidable,” he said. “Don’t forget that in 2010 we announced a 53.4 per cent increase on public salaries across board which affected all people in the public service that has still left a huge deficit in the annual budget of the country. “I just want to say that it is unfortunate that our students are still at home. It is very sad because the federal government has done so much in the last three years for education.” Source ; http://.com |

For many months after her childbirth in the United States of America (USA), popular Yoruba actress, Ronke Ojo well known as Ronke Oshodi Oke, remained in the Barak Obama led country. It was almost being speculated by some mischief makers that she was stranded in America, which was why she couldn't return to Nigeria to let her husband to see his child. But we have now found out why after many months away in America, Ronke decided to bring her baby to Nigeria for her hubby to see. We reliably gathered that while the well-endowed actress was in America, her father reportedly fell sick. Two days later, he died. The news got to her, she was devastated by it and was left with no other option than to rush to Nigeria to see to the burial arrangements of her late dad. Ronke Oshodi Oke, as we learnt, would not have returned earlier than she did if not for the unfortunate incident. full Gist @ http://.com/

"I Am Not Sex-Starved, You All Are Suffering From 'Konji'" - Afrocandy Tells Fans Controversy never seizes to follow US-based Nigerian actress, Judith Opara Mazagwu, a.k.a AfroCandy. In a recent interview, The mother of two, opens up on what prompted her porn movie, Destructive Instinct, why she won’t comment on Beverly’s statement and why her wards will not see her works, among other issues. Excerpts: Your recently released movie entitled “Destructive Instinct” has generated mixed reactions. Surely you expected this to happen. Well, you should know that the people that are condemning my movie are not my fans. They are pure haters. My fans do not condemn me, but they love everything I do. They are even happy that I could beat the odds to release the movie regardless of all the setbacks. I don’t care about the people that are speaking negatively about the movie. They should get used to it because this is just the beginning. It is what it is! Their bad comments and attacks did not stop me, can never stop me and will never stop me. Is it true that you want to bring the movie to Nigeria ? Yes. I was even preparing to release it in Nigeria this month, but there is a little discrepancy with the marketers. They want the original version with the sex scenes, but we are still discussing on some issues. I didn’t get naked and didn’t have sex in the movie and will regard it as the usual or normal movie. So, we are still on it and as soon as we reach an agreement, I will drop it. How convinced are you that the Censors Board will not ban the movie in Nigeria? I already told you the marketers said I should leave that for them to handle. That is why they are asking for that version. I guess they know better. Is it true that the main reason you produced the porn movie was to gain publicity here in Nigeria? Publicity was not the intention. I was trying to break a record in Africa, not just in Nigeria. But the fact is that this kind of movie I made does not come without ‘publicity’. You know. You have more male fans than the females I think so. Were you impressed with the turnout to your recent “Dick” auditioning? I was overwhelmed, not just impressed. I even twitted about it. I got more responses than I expected. Words were that it was because you’ve been starved of sex. Oh, really? I never read about that. But I would let you and those that reported it to take a good look at me and tell me if I look like a sex starved woman. I guess it’s conji that is affecting our people. They are the ones that are sex-starved for them to have even had such crap in their hearts. What are the challenges that almost turned you off during the course of producing that movie? We had so many challenges right from the beginning to the end, but what matters is where we are. At last, the movie came out. It became a reality. One of the house mates of the just concluded Big Brother Africa (BBA), Beverly, had rejected your invitation to feature her in your film. How will you react to this? I will not comment on that for now. I cannot answer anything that has to do with Beverly yet. What is your most embarrassing moment? I never really had a very embarrassing experience, but there was a time, I was moving into a new apartment, the truck and the movers were outside with some of my neighbours, I came out carrying something to the truck and somehow my wig got stuck on one of the things I was carrying and fell off of, everyone was looking at me before I realised I had no wigs on my head, I ran back into the house to fix it. It was a crazy experience. source : http://.com/2013/09/i-am-not-sex-starved-you-all-are.html |

The Nigeria Football Federation will remain focused and concentrate on preparations for the all important 2014 World Cup qualifier against Malawi despite the seeming distractions from its rival, the Football Association of Malawi. This was made known to Sunday Vanguard Sports by the first Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Chief Mike Umeh. In a chat with our reporter yesterday, Chief Umeh said recent reports from Blantyre in respect of the Malawi national team “are all propaganda” and should not be taken seriously. “We don’t want to lose concentration because of late, they have put up a lot of propaganda,” Umeh said, pointing out that for a team that had been preparing for a World Cup qualifier for a long time to suddenly say they have no money to travel sounded like a big joke. “It shows you how determined they are to make us relax. But they will be disappointed because we will remain focused so that when they come we will beat them silly.” The NFF chieftain said the Super Eagles players are eager to return to Brazil after the FIFA Confederations Cup misadventure. “Keshi has named a killer squad and the players are eager to return to Brazil because they have an unfinished business there which is the World Cup,” Umeh said, expressing delight in the invitation of Holland based Uche Nwofor whose brace against Bafana Bafana gave Nigeria a 2-0 win over South Africa in the Mandela Challenge. “We expect him to re-enact the form he displayed in South Africa and pray that God give him the grace to do well. He was fantastic in that encounter.” Umeh assured the Malawi delegation of the best in terms of hospitality. “We are number one in terms of hospitality,” he said, pointing out that “when the Malawi delegation return to their country, they would know that they visited true African brothers.” Malawi not in Super Eagles class, says James Peters Nigeria Football Federation assistant technical director James Peters has declared that the Super Eagles are far better, technically speaking, than the Flames of Malawi, their opponents in the September 7 World Cup qualifying match in Calabar. He argued that based on this he expects the national team coached by Stephen Keshi to steamroll the Malawians and advance to the final stage of the qualifiers. “The Super Eagles now have more experience than they had during the first leg match against Malawi at Blantyre in June 2012,” Peters said. NAN reports that Nigeria have nine points and merely need to only avoid defeat to reach the final elimination round, while Malawi need an outright win to advance. Peters said the experience the Super Eagles’ players got from their recent outings would be an advantage to them. “Our boys have peaked since the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil and the Mandela Challenge match has added to the team’s strength. “With the Super Eagles’ present form, they will beat Malawi on their own ground. “Fortunately for the Malawians, they are coming to Nigeria for this decisive match, and this will save them from that embarrassment,” the former U-20 national team handler said. “Without mincing words, I am sure the Super Eagles are ready for the match,” he said. Peters who was also a former assistant Super Eagles coach said the Nigerian side now posed a threat to many of their African counterparts. “Today, it will be difficult for any African team to beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria. This is because both Brazil and Nigeria produce world-class players more than any other country in the whole world,” Peters said. source : http://.com/2013/09/2014-world-cup-qualifier-we-wont-lose.html |

Hair loss at any age is unflattering to the looks. For one, it is an unsolicited announcement that you are ageing. For another, it may be an indication of certain health challenges that you were hitherto unaware of. Whichever way, we all treasure shock-full heads, such that, among women, the longer, shinier and healthier the hair, the better we deem it to be. For men, while the average person may not expect a man to have long hair if he isn’t a hippie or in showbiz, even the short or closely-cropped hair that a man wears is expected to be well groomed. In short, as healthy humans, we are expected to have hair on the scalp. This isn’t always the case, though; as people do go bald at one point or the other, due to many reasons, ranging from medical to emotional. Male alopaecia Experts say both men and women tend to lose hair thickness and amount as they age. “Baldness is not usually caused by a disease. It is related to ageing, heredity, and changes in the hormone, testosterone,” experts say. They note that inherited or “pattern baldness” affects many more men than women, because about one-half of men begin to go bald by the time they are 30 years old, and most are either bald or have a balding pattern by age 60. Hair loss in women Physicians say female pattern baldness can be as a result of changes in hormones, ageing or genes. However, dermatologists say beyond these, breaking of hair could be caused by certain skin diseases that lead to scarring of the hair follicles. Epidemiologists say it could be due to certain autoimmune diseases, hormone problems, such as too much testosterone; or too much or too little thyroid hormone. Dieticians opine that when the body suffers from too little iron, hair loss might occur. Ditto too little vitamin B (biotin) or other vitamin deficiency, which can lead to shedding of hair. Physicians say medications such as chemotherapy and beta blockers could lead to hair loss; while untreated sexually transmitted disease such as syphilis can also make a woman suffer hair loss. Eat for better hair Experts say hair loss can be prevented in many cases, and that certain food groups actually nurture hair to good health. Such foods are rich in essential contents that not only sustain hair health but also nourish the body. In effect, the advantages of such foods are multi-pronged. Omega-3 fatty acid A nutritionist, Dr. Remi Omotunde, says omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids are vital to every cell in the body, as its benefits extend to the heart, breast, bone, brain, hair and skin. A dermatologist, Dr. Godwin Osazie, gives omega-3 fatty acid a thumb-up for its ability to heal dry and brittle hair, prevent hair loss, or the dryness that could lead to flaky scalp. “Omega-3 fatty acids therefore add luster, sheen and elasticity to the hair by nurturing the hair follicles. This will help in restarting hair growth, making hair to grow quicker and stronger,” Osazie says. Foods rich in omega-3 include fish such as salmon (Titus), tuna, sardines and mackerel; dairy such as cheese, eggs, soya milk and yoghurt; wild rice (available in stores), walnuts, and beans. Zinc: A family doctor, Grace Oluwaseun, notes that lack of zinc causes an increase in a chemical messenger called Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha. “This TNF-a causes the immune system to attack healthy tissues in the body, including the hair. Sufficient levels of zinc help preserve healthy hair,” she counsels. A word of caution, though. Oluwaseun warns that heavy doses of zinc supplements can reverse the process and cause accelerated hair loss. Zinc-rich foods include pumpkin seeds, eggs, cucumber, bell pepper, liver, mutton, dried watermelon seeds, crab meat, and peanuts. Protein: Scientists say hair is made up of protein, and that’s why a protein deficiency may lead to hair loss or dry and brittle hair. They maintain that poor diet occasionally causes excessive hair loss, particularly if you stick with diets low in vitamins, minerals, and protein. To help your hair, eat foods rich in protein, such as the protein found in animal sources like fish, chicken, pork and turkey. Other sources of protein include beans, eggs, yoghurt, milk, soya milk, nuts, watermelon, etc. Iron: Experts aver that if your hair is thinning, iron-deficiency may be to blame. They say that iron deficiency can make the hair to become dry, brittle, and lose shine and body. To boost the amount of iron in your diet and give life to your hair, try these iron-rich foods: red meat, egg yolks, dark, leafy greens (spinach), dried fruit, iron-enriched cereals and grains, turkey or chicken giblets, beans, lentils, and soya beans, as well as liver. Oluwaseun adds, “Using shampoos and moisturisers that are high in protein, and following your doctor’s orders for diet, exercise, and iron supplementation, the look and feel of your hair will improve gradually over time.” Magnesium: Described as “nature’s beauty enhancer,” experts say this mineral plays a significant role in bone health and maintenance, as it is directly responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It is also needed in order for hair to grow properly. Indeed, scientists say the beauty of our hair, skin, and nails depends on how “mineralised” we are. Magnesium-rich foods include dark green, leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, fish, avocado, beans and lentils, non-fat yoghurt, bananas, dark chocolates, whole-wheat bread, coffee, sweet fresh corn, okro, peas, cucumber, watermelon, guava, and plantain, among others. Selenium: Experts say selenium, a trace mineral, aids the body in processing and using proteins. “Hair is primarily composed of proteins; so, when the body is able to better process the proteins, hair growth will follow,” scientists say. They warn that deficiencies in selenium (and zinc) often lead to hair loss. Good natural food sources of selenium include nuts (like Brazil nuts and walnuts), many fresh and salt water fish such as tuna, cod, red snapper, and herring; beef and poultry; grains, liver, veal, shrimps, lobster, crab meat, bacon, etc. Vitamins A & C: Described as “nature’s hair conditioner,” experts say these two vitamins contribute to the production of sebum — the oily substance in the hair follicles — and keeps the hair from breaking. Foods rich in these vitamins include dark leafy greens such as spinach, broccoli, sweet potatoes, pumpkin (ugwu), red and green peppers, guava, bell pepper, pawpaw, carrots, milk, tomatoes, eggs, bananas, boiled egg, sweet potato (baked), etc. source : http://.nl/2013/08/when-creams-fail-eat-for-hair-health.html
