Associated Airlines’ aircraft technician who was among the five survivors of the October 3 crash that left 15 people dead in Lagos has passed on. He died at the Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos, where he had been receiving treatment.

The development brought to 16 the number of dead victims of the ill-fated plane which crashed while conveying the remains of former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Agagu, from Lagos to Akure.
Sources at the hospital said the technician, Mr. Samson Fatoye, died at about 7pm on Wednesday. Fatoye, who suffered severe burns from the crash, had been treated in many hospitals before he was finally taken to the Gbagada hospital.
The sources said Fatoye died few hours after immigration officials from Abuja arrived in the hospital with electronic data capturing machine to prepare passport for the survivors to travel overseas for further treatment.
A Punch correspondent however learnt that the remaining four survivors, including the two cabin crew members, were captured, using the machine.
The remaining survivors, it was learnt, might be flown to overseas any time soon.
However, there were allegations that the survivors had been neglected by both the government and the management of the airline.
There had been reports that one of the surviving flight attendants, Mrs. Quinneth Owolabi, whose 10 toes and five fingers were amputated days ago, had been in severe pains before and after the surgery.
The National Cabin Crew Association had reportedly appealed to the Federal Government to fly her abroad for treatment to avoid the amputation.
Serving and retired cabin crew executives had expressed anger over government’s refusal to come to the aid of the victim despite the appeal made by NACCA and the family.
Spokesperson for the group, Mrs. Blessing Efe, had reportedly said that Owolabi would have been saved the trauma of amputation had government heeded her cries.
Efe said, “It is unfortunate that no help came when Quinneth needed it most. Her toes and fingers were amputated three days ago (four days today). Imagine the trauma she is going through at the moment.
“We want government to always support people who survive air crashes because the accident is not their making.
“We are trying now to sensitise the public and government on the need to assist those who survive air crashes. It is not easy to survive air an accident.”
The second surviving cabin crew member, Miss Toyin Samson, was said to be in a stable condition at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where she has been on admission

Achieving legendary eminence never comes on a silver platter but that is what one of Nollywood’s icons has become.

Olu Jacobs, often times referred to as the granddad of Nollywood has achieved great feats in the industry beyond standards he probably set for himself.

From the old days of the mid 90’s when he acted together with Omotola Jalade and Emeka Ike in “Day Break”, to some of his most current movies, the style and class he brings into his roles is second to none; from the trademark roaring voice when he is angry and intent on creating mischief especially when he gets offended or his child goes contrary to his commands, to the sweet and fatherly affection he displays when pleased, Olu has remained the same person and kept true to his core acting values that has made him beloved by many.

In the years that have past, some of his age mates who were legends in their own rights that to great Nollywood achievements including the likes of Sam Loco, Enebeli Elebuwa, Pete Eneh, and Justus Esiri, have all passed on. So it is worth at least recognizing his great feat over the years and bestowing on him an award deserving of his status.

Even before that happens however, the legend has already received a sculpted statue of himself and Olu can certainly take pride of this because he deserves it.

“ Zuky,I just wished God would give me more time to thank every Nigerian. I am grateful to have been born Nigerian. I hope someday we would resolve our various differences and live as one Nigeria, be as great as the United States. We are a resilient people, regardless of our diversity.


Where else can you find a unique ethnic peoples under one nation, with beautiful and diversified cultures, peoples, traditions and customs?.Nigeria is such a glorious nation and I pray the powers that be would someday allow our children to tell the stories of our resilience and our great people. Wizkid Live Abuja Invasion held Last Night. Folks who went to the concert were stunned with the number of people in attendance at the quietly publicized concert with Wizkid the headliner with guest appearances from label mates Skales, Niyola, Shaydee. The DG of NCAA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, said at a
press conference which held yesterday Friday
October 18th at the ministries HQ in Abuja, that the
Federal Government was concerned about how the
information got leaked to the public, saying that
whoever leaked it committed a criminal offence.
“I am not saying that this particular
information should not be put in the public
domain, but how it was obtained is the
concern. If somebody breaks into an office and
makes copies of official documents, then the
break-in has become criminal. So we are in the
process of trying to find the source of this
leakage and I am very concerned about it
because this information may look trivial but
there are other information that we have that
are confidential and it is only fair for us to
respect the confidentiality of information. I am
not saying that they broke into our office, but
they obtained the information illegally.”
“I am shell shocked that government
information and particularly information from
the civil aviation authority has gotten into
public purview in an illegal manner. It is
criminal! However, what has been done has
been done, but I think when such information
is gotten, you should have come to the agency
to ask. We are not shy to take your questions.
"US whistle blower Snowden went on the run
after putting such information in the public
domain. The sources of the leak I don’t know,
but yesterday, I issued a circular to all staff on
this issue. I will read a little part of the circular:
‘Without prejudice to the nature and the
purpose of this act, you should know that
leakage and ultimate publication is a matter of
great concern to the authority.’
The NCAA DG also tried to explain why ONLY two
BMW cars cost N225million. He kinda blamed it on
the car company, saying that it was bought from a
company (Coscharis) which had no competitors in
Nigeria. He said;
“First, each car that you buy nowadays has a
customised aspect to it and this may impact
on the price. The other factor is what I call the
environmental situation. Yesterday, a
gentleman from Britain met me and said the
fares in this country on British Airways and
Virgin Atlantic are high. And he wondered why
the situation had continued, but he said it was
because Nigerians could afford it.
“So the other aspect in this particular context
is what I will call the monopolistic situation on
these cars. Coscharis, as far as I understand, is
about the only guy that sells BMW of this
nature in Nigeria. If he is the only one selling,
then you must buy from him if you want the
car and he can name the price. So those are
factors that may have resulted. But mind you, I
am not holding brief for this. I do not know
how much the cars cost and I cannot relate or
answer the question on the actual cost of
these cars. But were they budgeted for? Yes.”

Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, last Friday morning, October 11th, 2013, confirmed to Nollywood Insider that he was actually assaulted and injured in the fracas involving members of the Video Rental Operators of Nigeria (VROAN) and some Yoruba movie makers and marketers. The ace thespian said, “I was injured in the debacle but I would not like to comment further on it on the telephone.”

Meanwhile the President of VROAN, Kassim Olatunbosun aka Boe, has been declared wanted by his members and the police. He is accused of wanton embezzlement of public funds at his disposal. Kassim is said to have mismanaged the royalties for marketers and film producers that his members paid into the coffers of VROAN over the last two years. They also claimed that he refused to call for elections after staying in office for more than 10 years.According to information made known to NOLLYWOOD INSIDER, after a long meeting at the Cultural Center, Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday October 10th, 2013, by his members and other concerned stakeholders, the enraged crowd besieged his Onipanu office calling on him to render account of his stewardship as VROAN's henchman. However, on sighting the crowd while he was having his weekly meeting with executives of the association, Kassim managed to scale over a high fence into oblivion. This was after Jide Kosoko and a few others had sustained injuries during a fight to apprehend Kassim.

Jide Kosoko spoke further on the incident, “Actually, I am a member of the Board of Trustees of VROAN, and we had been getting several reports that the president of the association, Kassim aka Boe, has been in the office for close to 10 years. We have received several complaints that his tenure has since lapsed, and that there should have been an election, but he insisted on staying. This is coupled with other atrocities of his, so the BOT had to invite him, but he refused to come to any of the meetings on several occasions. He goes about with thugs with dangerous weapons, most of whom are not owners of video clubs.

''When his members wanted to make trouble with him, we said no that they should leave the matter to us, the BOT. I advised him personally, but he refused to yield to advice. He then wrote a letter saying he will hold elections in December which angered his members. The BOT then took some policemen to his office, only for us to get there and find thugs all over the place. They thereafter got violent with us, and one of them threw a bottle of water at me; using charms to threaten us.”

Meanwhile, JideKosoko disclosed that the matter is now with the Nigerian Police Zone 2, Lagos.

Towards ending the ongoing ASUU strike, the Federal Government has committed to spending N200 billion in the 2014 budget on the universities as well as on each of the next three-four years until the universities are brought to world-class standard. This is in addition to the N100 billion dedicated and already made available for 2013. The government has also increased to N40 billion as a first installment, funds for the payment of earned allowances to the striking lecturers, an improvement from the N30 billion previously released. This information is contained in an internal Federal University of Otuoke statement by Professor Bolaji Aluko, its Vice-Chancellor, seen on Wednesday night by SaharaReporters. On the earned allowances, he explained, “Government will top it up with further releases once universities are through with the disbursement of this new figure of N40 million, so Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this disbursement within the shortest possible time using guiding templates that have been sent by the CVC,” the circular said.

Professor Aluko said the development followed meetings on September 19 and Oct 11 of representatives of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, led by CVC Chairman, Prof. Hamisu of ATBU and ASUU Representatives led by its President, Dr. N. Fagge with the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arc. Namadi. Sambo, Minister of Education Barr. N. Wike and others.

Of great interest to stakeholders, Vice-President Sambo, appealing to ASUU to call off the strike, apologized for the "take-it-or-leave-it" comments credited to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the onset of the strike. The Minister did not seem to have been involved in either meeting, perhaps as the government’s way of soothing the feelings of the university teachers.

Other points of agreement at the meetings include the following:

Project Prioritization: Universities will now be allowed to determine their priorities and not be “rail-roaded” into implementing a pre-determined set of projects with respect to the NEEDS assessment. Decisions are not to be centralized.
TETFund Intervention: Government assured that the operations of the TETFund will not be impaired, and that the regular TETFund intervention disbursement to Universities will continue, unaffected. So the NEEDS assessment capital outlays are in addition to regular TETFund intervention.
Project Monitoring: A new Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the NEEDS Assessment intervention for universities has been set up to take over from the Suswan Committee. The new one is under the Federal Ministry of Education and chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education. In addition, to build confidence and ensure faithful implementation and prevent any relapse as before, the Vice President will meet quarterly with the IMC to monitor progress.
Blueprint: ASUU was mandated to submit a blue print for revitalizing the Universities to the Vice President.

Prof. Aluko further stated that a signed document will soon be issued to itemize the full issues on which the consensus he had outlined here, as brokered by AVCNU, was reached.

It was a tragic end for a father of four and his lover who were found dead naked in a room, at Ago-Iwoye, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun state yesterday.

The man, identified as Akeem, believed to be in his 50s was a father of four children living in his one room apartment with his wife.
SunNews reports his wife and children were said to have travelled to Imodi Imosan to celebrate Sallah with his family, so he used the opportunity of their absence to invite his lover home.

It was alleged that Akeem had brought in the lady (whose identity was unknown) on the night his wife travelled with his children.
In the morning, both of them were found dead in the room, with the man lying naked on the bed, while the lady’s body was on a two-seater couch.

Akeem and his legal wife was both fashion designers. They both own Alubarika Fashions located at Atomotele compound in Igan road, Ago Iwoye.

According to a neighbour, who identified himself as Idowu Odunsi:

Akeem brought his lover to come and stay with him over the night, since his wife and children were not at home.

According to him, when other tenants did not see Akeem in the morning, somebody hinted them that he saw him with a lady inside the shop previous night, prompting them to go to his room.

Idowu said after several knock on the door without any response, they forced the door open, only to discover the dead bodies.

“We were shocked and dumbfounded to see him naked on the bed and the lady on the chair,” he stated, adding: “We cannot say precisely what caused his death and that of his strange lover,” he stated.



Landlord of the house, where the late Akeem was living, 70 years, Pa Oluwakemi Odunsi, explained that deceased had slaughtered his Eid -el Kabir ram that day, after which he informed him that he wanted to retire to his shop.
He said:

’It was this morning (Wednesday) around 10a.m. that I ordered that his shop door be forced opened, when we did not see him throughout the previous night and we behold the gory sight,:



Divisional Police Officer, Ago Iwoye Mr. Peter Idenhe, who led police team to the scene of the incident, say they suspect generator fumes because they found some evidence of generator n the same building where the deceased were.

Just 48 hours after operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) killed six suspected kidnappers in Ihiala Council Area of Anambra State, a business magnate and transporter, Chief Godwin Okeke (GUO motors) escaped death by the whiskers yesterday when gunmen suspected to be hired assassins attacked his car.

The attack occurred barely one month after the owner of the Young Shall Grow Motors, Chief Vincent Obianodo escaped suspected assasins’s bullets in Festac Area of Lagos.

Okeke escaped death miraculously within his residence at Government Reserved Area (GRA), Onitsha, while he was returning from work at about 6.45 pm when the gunmen trailed his car to the gate of his home.

Though the business magnate was not hurt, it was gathered that after he came in, one of the drivers in his convoy went out with a black Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with Reg. No ME70AAA, and the assailants trailed him and opened fire on the car.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Okeke said he had come back about 10 minutes earlier and sent his driver on an errand with the car and on his way back, gunmen operating in a Toyota Siena car trailed him to his gate and opened fire on the vehicle.

His words: “I came back yesterday about 10 minutes earlier and I sent my driver to go and buy something. Shortly after that, we began to hear terrifying gunshots in front of the gate.

“It was when the assailants trailed the car, thinking that I was inside; they first opened fire at the windscreen, directing it at the front seat where they thought a security man was sitting.

“They shattered the windscreen, shot again at the driver and the bullets miraculously missed his forehead and just scratched his head and the bullets also hit his hand.”

“They also shattered the tyres of the vehicle and riddled the whole vehicle with over 60 bullets. The operation was a very brief one because it lasted for about five minutes.

“The assailants came purposely to eliminate me because within the last few months, I have been receiving threats from various criminal gangs, ordering me to leave Onitsha and Anambra State completely.

“But I told them that nobody can force me out of Onitsha or Anambra State. They probably thought I was inside the car because when they forced the door open, they were asking where is Oga?, before they left.”

Prolific Nigerian rapper, Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, otherwise known as Vector tha Viper, is renowned in Nigeria and beyond for his distinctive rap and smooth delivery on the mic.
And the Ogun state born rapper who participated in the 2013 Hennessy Artistry wants to take on the King of New York, Roc-A-fella boss, Jay Z to a freestyle battle.
Here's what he said during an interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly.
If you had a moment with Jay Z, what will you tell him?
I will really like to freestyle with him. I hear he doesn’t write in the studio and that’s cool but somewhere in my head I’m thinking we can outdo that guy. I’d like for him to see that hip-hop for Naija no be beans.

The woman in question is identified as Asampete Fatima Usman, a graduate of the University of Maiduguri who lives and works in Abuja.
Fatima hails from Hong city in Adamawa state.
According to sources, depressed Fatima sent out an apparent suicide letter to a couple of friends on Facebook on the 1st of October 2013.
In the suicide note, Fatima informs friends of her intention of killing herself but her friends thought she was joking.
One of her friends who got the mail late was convinced that Fatima would kill herself for using the term “end it all” but she was pacified by those she told who assured her that perhaps she had read too much meaning into the mail….she let it be but alas a few days later on October 8, 2013 exactly 3 hours after her last Facebook post, people started commenting that she had died.
To everyone’s surprise Fatima’s corpse was found by her family on the same day…. Alas she had killed herself.
People should try to act on time anytime a message of this nature is received who knows if they had reached out to her, she wouldn’t have killed herself.
May the Lord comfort her family and give Fatima eternal rest.

Leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) complain of receiving death threats by phone messages and start to go underground for fear of their lives.

This was made known in a statement titled “ASUU strike: Union leaders go underground” made by ASUU, University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, signed by Dr Olusegun Ajiboye. According to the claims, union leaders are being tailed by unknown elements suspected to be security agents involved by the Federal Government.
The extract from the statement reads as follows:
“Apart from the issue of finance (referring to withdrawn salaries) ASUU leaders are now being trailed all over the place. Majority of our union leaders have now gone underground while many have their telephone lines bugged. Some are now living in fear for their lives.
“The position of ASUU is that Nigeria is a democratic country and citizens are guaranteed freedom of association. Members of the union are apprehensive for the lives of their leaders. We urge the government to leave our leaders alone."
Ajiboye urged the Federal Government to focus on implementing the 2009 agreement, which was reached with the Union.

He also asked Inspector Mohammed Abubakar, General of Police, to take care of the lives of ASUU leaders.

Jerry and Edith Dunn of Spanish Fork, Utah, were born in 1931 and passed away in their sleep last week within hours of each other.

SPANISH FORK, Utah — A Utah couple who lived 63 years together died within hours of each other last week.
The Deseret News reports that Jerry and Edith Dunn of Spanish Fork were born in 1931 and since high school rarely spent any time apart.
Jerry Dunn died in his sleep early Thursday. Edith Dunn took her last breath hours later.
They were buried in a simple graveside ceremony Friday. Jerry Dunn, a member of the American Legion, was given full military honors. The retired U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was a Korea and Vietnam war veteran.
No cause of death was released. Family members tell the newspaper that Jerry Dunn knew the end of his life was near, wasn't afraid of dying and went first to lead the way for his ailing wife.
Police Lt. Matt Johnson says family members were attending the couple when they died of natural causes and that attending doctors signed the death certificates.
