PoliticsRe: Nurses Protest Kidnap Of Colleague In Owerri Hide Out For Four (4) Months by aiyofa(op): 8:19am On Apr 17, 2013
Ngwakwe: The Nurses failed to provide necessary or additional information to the public to understand the present status of their colleague as in telling us if she is still held hostage while ransom is been demanded or if they suspect she has been assassinated
How do you expect the Nurses to have all these details, are they the governor or the security apparatus? This is a sheer in-depth misrule and cluelessness on the part of the governor.

Nurses of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri have staged a protest against the kidnap of one of their colleagues, Mrs. Ursula Ohiagu, who has been held captive for over four months now.

Ohiagu was abducted by a four-man gang at the Aladinma Housing Estate in Owerri on her way home from work.

The protest came on the heels of a similar protest by students of Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) over the perennial power outage in their hostels.

However, while the nurses numbering about 40 were allowed to air their grievances, the students were barred from carrying out their planned demonstration by security men attached to the campus.

Acting under the aegis of “Federal Health Institutions of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (FMC), Owerri, chapter” the nurses, with placards bearing such inscriptions as “we are no longer safe”, government do something now,” “release our nurse now or” “…Imo is no longer safe for nurses”, “no security, no work and FMC nurses are not happy” urged the state government to immediately swing into action and ensure the unconditional release of Ohiagu.

Addressing the aggrieved nurses who later bared their minds through Mrs. Augustina Nwandikom, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Shell Camp, Owerri, Mrs. Mary Obasi, assured them that the case had been handed over to the Anti-kidnap squad for necessary action.

Obasi said that the Commissioner for Police was interested in the matter and was doing everything possible to get Ohiagu off the hook of the hoodlums, even as she advised them to return to their homes quietly and watch the police react.

Afam4eva: It seems for some reason these students protesting are not benefiting from the free education policy or they're been used by political opponents to deride the process.

Over 100 undergraduates of Imo State University, IMSU, Owerri, have staged a peaceful protest in the state capital over “an alleged clandestine but carefully designed plot to deny them the free education policy of the state government”.

The angry students, who are natives of Aboh, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte local government areas of Imo State, equally moved their protest train to the Secretariat of the State Council of Traditional Rulers to lodge their report.

Some of the protesters accused Governor Rochas Okorocha of marginalizing them over their alleged non-support of Okorocha during the last election.

Other area of concern raised by the protesting students was the N70,000 acceptance fee forced on fresh students by IMSU management, even as they complained about the cheque being issued by government .

Addressing the students, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Chinedu Offor, blamed the undergraduates for the delay in collecting their cheques.

its ik: Imo is know for the high number of hotels. On average I think it should be 4 hotels per street. And also 5 tertiary institutions in just owerri town.
And the best part, since they have a lot of hotels and many tertiary institutions, the number of gurls and ladies in the town is much. I think owerri has the highest or should be the second highest in the number of love peddlerd in a city. That in owerri I can sleep with a fine young student love peddler for as low as N1k or even N1.5k. And they are happy and grateful. Some are cheaper than that. Some u won't pay, cos the just want u to come with ur flashy car and pick them from their hostel, to show their friends the type of men that wants them and the car that came to take them off or drop them. That's the in thing in owerri.
And they are also know for flexing, enjoyment or partying. That's the typical owerri person.
OMG..is it that bad? And we dey pay like 5k here. But how I go come pack all these girls for owere so that I can resell them here and make real profit? This is money wasting..

seunajia: Did sb say high level of education? lipsrsealed Imoites are known for:

» Sporting excellence.

» Longevity: This is more of an Igbo thing.

» Hardwork: The number of 419ers won't make most people agree. But Imo folks are hardworking, especially their females.

» Arabanko: Hotels, motels. Owerri quickly becomes a huge beer palour at night, you'll be marveled. Plenty girls with yam legs angry

The education thing is a bare faced lie, stop insulting our intelligence.
The above took me out. grin grin

I thought some fools said that na them get education?

Mad Cow: Imo State is best known for:

1. 419 - Imo State is the fraud capital of the East.

2. Hotels & loose women - The name Ada Owerri is no joke. The loose women are not necessarily Imo State indigenes o! And every street in Imo State has at least 3 (no star) hotels.

3. Relaxing and Chilling - Since government is the highest employer of labour, there is really no serious work going on in Imo State so they lose early from work and party like there ain't no tomorrow.. The only other state that parties harder than Imo State is CrossRiver State.

4. Kidnapping... Imo State is presently the Kidnapping capital of Nigeria.

5. Education - which is nothing to write home about. The only decent higher institution in Imo State is federally owned.

6. Nollywood - IMO state folks litter nollywood, since there is no other economic source of income in the state, I guess acting is the next best thing..

To be continued......
This is the biggest blow on iboos. ibo on ibo attrocity grin grin grin grin

But my experience with one imo girl from owere here in ibadan is not funny. She stole my money, my perfs. but I had to forgive her because of she fvck you, you will forget whatever she has stolen from you. My question is whether they have school of fck in the state? cheesy

CrimeImo Police Arrest 2 kidnap Suspects, Rescue Woman by aiyofa(op): 3:38am On Jan 25, 2013
OWERRI — Eagle-eyed operatives of Imo State Police Command last Wednesday arrested two suspected kidnappers and freed a woman they abducted from Igwuruta, Rivers State.

Confirming this to Vanguard, yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Vitalis Onugu, a deputy superintendent of police, said that “in the early hours of last Wednesday, four armed men stormed the home of Mrs. Linus Okechi situated along Farm Road, Igwuruta, Rivers State, when she was about taking her children to school”.

According to the PPRO, the armed hoodlums quickly ordered her into her Honda CRV RAV4 vehicle and took her away.

“They drove from Igwuruta to Imo and on getting to Ihiagwa, Owerri West local government area, policemen on stop and search flagged them down but they refused to stop. Sensing that something was amiss, the policemen pursued them,” the PPRO recounted.

Onugu recalled that the hoodlums ran into a traffic gridlock and on realizing that the police was closing in on them, jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a nearby bush.

“The police still defied odds and ran after the fleeing gangsters. Their effort paid off as two of the four fleeing kidnappers were arrested,” Onugu said.

He gave the names of the arrested suspects as Josiah Michael, a motor mechanic, and native of Etche, Rivers State, and Ifeanyi Ezeala from Umuowa, Orlu, Imo State.

“The woman was rescued alive and unhurt, while the two suspects have been transferred to Rivers State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution,” the PPRO said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta, has appealed to youths to resist every temptation that would lure them into crime.

Bolanta, who spoke in a telephone interview, also warned that the police would not take kindly to anybody or group of persons that proferred to take to crime instead of being useful to themselves and society.
