Twitter is a fun web application many of us enjoy using. Rudimentarily, it is a simple idea. Type whatever you want as long as it’s less than 140 characters and share it with the world. For those who are interested in how an idea like this can be put together, I created this very basic bare bones tutorial of twitter as a demonstration. We will not be using any framework, just raw PHP, so that anyone, no matter your level of experience of choice of framework can follow. As you’ll see, it is easy. Things you’ll need- A web server (I use Apache), MySQL, and PHP. Hopefully you have basic experience with all this via XAMPP, LAMP or WAMP. You’ll of course also need a web browser to test your work and a code editor(I use Sublime Text 3. Notepad++ is also a good alternative). STEP 1 The first task involved in making a web app is creating the database that will hold the Information to be used by the app. Basically, we need a database to hold the name of our users and their tweets. So we will have 2 tables in our database. One named users and another named posts. Each post will have a primary key (an incremental integer) and a foreign key back to the user who made the post. So let us create a database in our MySQL server. I make use of phpMyAdmin, a graphical MySQL manager that comes with XAMPP but you can use any other one you are comfortable with. I named my database mytwitter. You can use anything you like but I suggest you use the same so that you’ll be able to follow more easily as we proceed. Next let us proceed to create our users table. You can use your favorite MySQL graphical manager to input the following columns and their characteristics, this is what the raw SQL code looks like CREATE TABLE `users` ( `id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY , `username` VARCHAR( 255 ) NOT NULL , `email` VARCHAR( 255 ) NOT NULL , `password` VARCHAR( 8 ) NOT NULL , `status` ENUM( 'active', 'inactive' ) NOT NULL ); We have simply created a table called users with 5 columns. Firstly, we have the id which will auto increment and which is also our primary key, the username our users will use, the user’s email, password and a status field to monitor if our user is active or not. All our fields are also marked as NOT NULL to ensure they are not empty. Next let us create our posts table. Again, you can use your favorite MySQL graphical manager, if you prefer to write the SQL code yourself, this is what the raw SQL code looks like CREATE TABLE `posts` ( `id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY , `user_id` INT NOT NULL , `body` VARCHAR( 140 ) NOT NULL , `stamp` DATETIME NOT NULL ); Here we have created the posts table with four fields. Firstly, we have the id which will auto increment and is also our primary key. We also have a field called user_id which is the user_id of the user that owns a particular post. The field called body holds the actual post/tweet and the field we named stamp will put a time stamp to the posts. Okay, so far so good. Now we get to the tricky part. We have to create a database table that will hold which users are following each other. We can simply do this by just having a table that has just two fields as follows CREATE TABLE `following` ( `user_id` INT NOT NULL , `follower_id` INT NOT NULL , PRIMARY KEY ( `user_id` , `follower_id` ) ); Our table is appropriately named following. We have a field called user_id and another field called follower_id. The way this works is that this table will be populated by the id values from our user table to indicate if a certain user is following another. user_id will correspond to an id value in the users table while follower_id will also correspond to an id value in the users table. As we remember, the id values are actually the primary key for the users table so it is guaranteed that no two users will have the same primary key. If this sounds like greek at the moment, don’t bother, it will become crystal clear when we implement the functionality. So, we are done with that. It’s time to get our hands dirty with some PHP coding. This will come up in a second post. Comments, feedback and questions are welcome. |

I am a beginner programmer. I am interested in developing web applications and so I am learning PHP. I have read 2 books, an introduction to the the language and a more advanced one treating a little more advanced concepts like object oriented programming, serialization etc. I am trying to become proficient at the language and at programming in general and so I have decided to read through open source codes. For starters, I have downloaded Elgg, an open source social networking script written in PHP. The sheer number and amount of code however makes me wonder, where do I start? Do I just open each and every file and prod through it continually until I know what it does, or are there tools that can enable sorting through and making sense of huge amounts of code written by other people? I am sure this is something every beginner programmer can relate to. The examples in books are usually small and compact and in no way prepare anyone for the real thing. Pros, please kindly share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions on how to make it through this weaning stage. Thank you |

Some people seem to believe that by praying, the biological and physiological state of themselves or others can be altered e.g. that an HIV positive person could be completely cured or that a cancer patient recovers completely without chemotherapy or any other form of medical treatment or as I have even heard once, that blood genotypes can be changed by prayer. It is curious that miracle workers only claim to have healed or "replaced" organs which are not immediately visible to the human eye e.g hearts or kidneys. Is it possible to pray for an amputated limb to be replaced/grow back? If yes, have you witnessed one before? If no, is there then a limit to what god can do? That been said, I would like to know if there is anyone on here who has experienced or at least been a firsthand witness of a healing miracle before? For once, forget about what you see on TV or testimonies from people you barely know. And of course, to sound convincing, give concise information on medical history before the supposed healing. |

I wnda if u remember who waxed d hook 4 ruggedman's most popular song till date and what of darey's "e no mean" and ajasa's "fenu won so? dude, u know nothing or next to nothing about naija music, period |
Just strting out musically so I would like to get in touch and become familiar with producers and studios in Ibadan, please drop their contacts if you know of any. thanks |
As already posited by a lot of ppl, I dnt like the song, I consider it to be one of d'banj's poor songs(nice beat though) but the ban on it is like killing a chicken with a bazooka! That song does not contain any, I repeat any lewd lyrics, the first verse is obviously clean and the only line in the second verse which could have counted was "adjusted", U like to do it,the hmm hmm hmm hmm, he didnt say anything indecent. If you want to hear a d'banj song with lewd lyrics, go and listen to jasi, tongolo and even why me |
Imagine Che Guevera and Bob Marley rolled into one, then you get a sense of Nigerian musician and activist, Fela - Kuti Brixton, d dude is not sounding like he is saying nonsense, simply put,he is saying nonsense and I wont hesitate to pass the same judgement on you if you decide to take sides with him. Fela is a musical icon(allen was his drummer,so why are you talkin as if it was him who created afrobeat, Fela was even humble enough to share credit for the creation of highlif with his drummer!), he is a political icon(ask amnesty international) and will certainly make a list of the five most popular nigerians both dead and living, but he is "not an icon" because of his erratic persona? Take a look around at every specially gifted person, they look normal 2 u? From michael jackson(where do i start) to bobby brown(jailbird) to even scientists(einstein never wore socks), painters(da vinci was gay) etc. Summarily Ur proffesional life or career is different and should nt be compared on any basis with ur private life |
As far as me is concerned, Vector is not "over-hyped" because nobody even hypes him at all in the first place, the dude's just ok, nothin fantastic, at least not yet. Its a gud thing some of y'all are droppin some of his bars dat are ur favrites, where is the element of genius in those lines? "If I'm pissin u off, go take a pee? C'mon, even my secondary school rap book doesnt contain such a lame line |

Firstly, not every song that features Ice Prince becomes an hit,(google flowsssick feat ice prince, presho' bad fet ice prince, N'gbomi feat ice prince) dats 3 already,if u were such a big ice prince fan as you claim, find the rest. As regards his profile, even the wackest rapper will be known to some extent as long as he is a "choc boi". D rep is there(thanks to MI). Now frankly and honestly, personally,I do not consider MI and Ice Prince to be be in the same cadre lyrically or as artistes. I have quizzed a lot of so called Ice Prince fans and I've discovered dat what you people like is his laid back and gentle stlyle unlike MI's deep voice and outgoing manner. In summary, I think its amusing for any1 to think MI considers Ice Prince as a threat. |
Mikuz, he is quoting Ice prince's lyrics 4rm somebody wants to die, go hear d song |
So the song was copied, so what? Did d guys dat sang it make a hit out of it? And if u no gree, what of his other songs, have u found their "originals" yet? It is my sincere opinion that many critics come 4rm a spiteful aspect, since when has autotune become an abomination? Autotune does not neccesarily give you a new voice or modify your voice, the software approximates the voice of a singer to the nearest semitone, would you rather listen to a singer singing off key if he can improve his voice with technology at least in the studio? |
And which one is this amusing tussle as to the genre of music that wizkid sings? Naija hiphop is a genre tha the likes of tony tetuila, eedris abdulkareem, d'banj, dj zeez, durella, jaywon, 9ice and a host of others have essentially defined over the years. Wizkid's music is not significantly different and I don't even think there's any need to comment on a song that has a fuji flavour as if experimenting with and blending together new styles and genres is a new thing in music |
To say I'm in love with wizkid's music is an understatement. I luv his swag, his voice and his sheer ability to provide raw entertainment. I however did not know until I started reading this thread now that anyone considers wizkid to be lyrically gifted. Lyrically, my poor is no where to be found. I make it a point of duty to download songs that wizkid features on,even songs by upcoming artists(e.g google g'bakx feat. Wizkid and yung6ix feat wizkid) and was I the only one who heard d'prince's jonzing world where wizkid repeated a line four times at the beginning of the song? How many times has he used the words "follow me go" or "baby be mine" and several others in songs. I dont however think there's any reason to beef wizkid, he is a great entertainer(my opinion anyway), lyrically limited but has other things going for him. As for the album, I'll rate it 3.5/5 |
The rules say its k4kblues I gotta diss. No pun intended dawg, but you sound like upstairs, there's something amiss |
I've tried it using while loops and that's because the question is under the while loop section in the textbook. |
