HealthList Of Important Food For Men, To Help Fight Disease & Improve Sexual Health by AJOT99(op): 8:53pm On Nov 08, 2014
http://nwdailyblog.com/list-of-important-food-for-men-to-help-fight-disease-improve-sexual-health/

Men are different from women in all kinds of ways — including their nutritional needs. Just as women need particular nutrients during pregnancy or for protection from breast cancer, men need nutrients that can help them maintain muscle mass, prevent prostate cancer, and more.

Many foods that tend to be favorites among men are not the best choices for good health. Yet a healthy diet and regular physical activity can help prevent heart disease and cancer, the No. 1 and No. 2 killers for men over 35. They can also enhance performance, from the board room to the bedroom.

Nutrients that are good for the heart improve circulation to all parts of the body, and these same nutrients provide a layer of protection against cancer and other chronic diseases.

Food for Men No. 1: Oysters

Could there be something to the legend that oysters are the food of love? Well, it’s true that just a few oysters each day will deliver a full day’s supply of the antioxidant mineral zinc. Zinc is involved in hundreds of body processes, from producing DNA to repairing cells.

“Research shows that adequate zinc may protect against cellular damage that leads to prostate cancer,” says Grotto. “Sexual functioning of the male reproductive system, including increased sperm counts, is also enhanced with zinc.”

You can also get your daily recommended dose of 11 milligrams a day by eating other shellfish, lean beef, lean pork, or legumes.

Food for Men No. 2: Bananas

Bananas are a great portable source of quick energy and are rich in potassium, which is needed to regulate nerves, heartbeat and, especially, blood pressure. Diets rich in potassium and magnesium (which is also found in bananas) can reduce the risk of stroke.

As a super source of vitamin B-6, bananas can also aid your immune system, help form red blood cells, ensure a well-functioning nervous system, and assist protein metabolism. So enjoy a banana each day, at breakfast on your whole grain-cereal or before your workout at the gym.

Food for Men No. 3: Fatty Fish

No list of superfoods would be complete without the healthy fat, omega-3 fatty acids. These polyunsaturated fats are the preferred form of fats in your diet for many reasons. They can benefit the heart, circulation, and immune system and reduce the risk for prostate cancer, among other things.Fatty fish (salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel, herring) are the richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids. In fact the American Heart Association recommends that everyone eat fish twice weekly.

You can also get omega-3s in plant-based foods, like flaxseed, walnuts, soy, canola oil, and fortified products such as eggs. But there are other good reasons to eat fish.

PoliticsAPC Students Vow To Resist Nigerian Planned Increase In Tuition Fees by AJOT99(op): 8:33pm On Nov 08, 2014
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/170796-apc-students-vow-to-resist-nigerian-planned-increase-in-tuition-fees.html

The students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, arm of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have frowned at the state of education in the country, and vowed to fight any hike in tuition fees.
In a statement issued, Friday, the students said they plan to mobilise over 47 million students to ensure maximum youth’s participation beyond next year’s elections.
“Our attention has been drawn (to) plans by the federal government to increase tuition across all federal institutions, we will resist any attempt to make education unaffordable to the masses,” said the statement signed by Emmanuel Damilare, Interim Publicity Secretary, APC-Campus Connect at the university.
The students expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, describing it as a strategy to disenfranchise the populace.
“It could be recalled that the PVCs distribution has been postponed in nine local government areas in Lagos from November 7-9 according to a press statement released by Adekunle Ogunmola, the resident electoral commissioner of INEC in Lagos State who claimed that they had to cancel the distribution in those areas because they are yet to take delivery of their PVCs,” said Mr. Damilare.
“In Rivers State, the distribution of PVCs was also postponed in seven local government areas, though no specific reasons was given but we foresaw the same technical manoeuvre by the commission.
The students called on Attahiru Jega, the INEC Chairman, to resign if he is incapable discharging his duties at the commission.
“We can’t imagine if this are roadmaps to 2015, but we are prepared to resist any forces that propagates peaceful, free and fair election, as we will just not vote but protect our votes,” said Mr. Damilare.
The students blamed the insecurity in the country’s North-East on the indifference of President Goodluck Jonathan.
They also condemned the withdrawal of the police officers attached to Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“As students of history, we clearly know that all arms of government (has) their functions and it wouldn’t be fair on democracy if we can’t distinguish between the military era and the former, the misuse of power on the instruction of the Presidency… Of what business does the police have to interpret the law?
“At the alarming state of the nation marred by insecurity, the main reason of withdrawing the security operative attached to the number four citizen of the federal republic of Nigeria is to expose him to risk which outcome can be dangerous, we will definitely hold the IG (Inspector General) for any risk on the Speaker at the House of Representatives.”
PoliticsNigerian Military Releases Another 125 Boko Haram Suspects by AJOT99(op): 8:10pm On Nov 08, 2014
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/170793-nigerian-military-releases-another-125-boko-haram-suspects.html

Two days after they handed over some 42 suspected Boko Haram terrorists to the Borno state government, military officials at the 7 Division of the Nigeria Army today freed yet another set of 125 suspects after weeks of investigation absolved them of alleged complicity with the terrorist group.
The spokesman of the 7 Division, Maiduguri, Usman Sani, a colonel, told journalists during the ongoing handover ceremony that the 125 released suspects were part of the 152 Boko Haram suspects arrested in September this year.
He said after thorough military investigation, the 125 were deemed clean and had to be released.
The 125 released suspects were ferried into Maiduguri after a detour journey from Biu through Gombe, via Yobe state to Maiduguri.
One of the released detainees told PREMIUM TIMES, “We have spent over 45 days in military detention but we thank God that our lives were spared. We went through pains and suffering there, but we can’t blame them much since they still were magnanimous to release us at a time human life is no longer valued “.
Security officials had arrested several persons fleeing towns in Northeast Nigeria at the peak of the Boko Haram attacks in September.
Most of them were taken in while hiding in trucks conveying livestock to the southern part of the country.
Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima, is yet to take delivery of the suspects as he is still being awaited to disengage from another function to receive them.
The military had on Thursday released a first batch of 42 suspects.
The 42 suspects, after months and years in detention, were cleared of all suspicions following thorough investigations.
The military said three of the 42 released suspects were foreigners from Chad, Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
Mr. Usman, who handed the freed suspects over to Governor Kashim Shettima, said they were arrested during various military raids.
Mr. Usman said each of the freed prisoners were given N100,000 to enable them continue with their normal lives as free citizens.
“We in the Nigeria army will continue to do our best in the ongoing fight against insurgency until we get rid of this problem,” he said.
Mr. Shetima commended the military for its magnanimity.
“We commend the fairness, equity and justice displayed by the Nigeria Armed Forces towards releasing anybody found not to be involved in these terrorist activities,” he said.
“Amongst them are students, tailors, mechanics, provision stores owners and of course, quite a handful of them are drivers. We have a moral obligation to ensure that these young men at this time of their lives are actively engaged. Along this line, I wish to direct the road maintenance agency to include those that are drivers as employed truck drivers, while those that are tailors should be engaged in sewing uniforms for students and pupils in line with our education transformation program.
“Those that are farmers should be given the resources to improve their farming; while the traders would be given some token in addition to what the military gave them to boost their trade. The students among them should be assisted to return to school.”
Some of the freed prisoners had spent detention times ranging from three years, two years to some months. They were full of gratitude to get what one of them, a 300-level student of Chemistry, said was another chance at life.

Nairaland GeneralThree Generals Escape Death As Boko Haram Intensifies Attacks On Adamawa Village by AJOT99(op): 4:57pm On Nov 08, 2014
Even as the Nigerian military stepped up efforts at beaten back the extremist Boko Haram sect from the areas it currently occupies, including the commercial border town of Mubi in Adamawa state, the militants are intensifying attacks on remote communities and villages, residents have told PREMIUM TIMES.
Also, there are reports that three retired Generals of the Nigerian Army narrowly escaped death Boko Haram insurgents stormed their village asking for their whereabouts.
The insurgents did not succeed in their mission as they (the army Generals) were reportedly not around when the Boko Haram terrorists struck their village of Gashala in Hong Local Government, few kilometers away from Mubi town.
Gashala village is the home town of Air vice Marshal Steven Yaduma (Rtd), Major General Zakariya Yaduma and General Samuel Dzarma.
A resident of the village, Na’omi Bitrus, said when the gunmen arrived, they demanded to know the houses of the three Generals in the village.
But the villagers, sensing danger, decline to give the insurgents the information on the pretext that they too were strangers in the town.
“Four gunmen struck the village on two motor cycles on Thursday and immediately demanded to know the residents of the three Generals in the town but sensing danger the residents declined saying they are strangers,” she said.
“Having failed in their mission, the gunmen went on rampage and set the residence of EYN Church pastor of the village ablaze. They shot dead a retired engineer forcing residents to flee to nearby bushes.
“Out of fear for our dear lives, we slept in the bush and are constantly in trepidation as we fear that the insurgents may yet launch another attack on us. They said they will stage a comeback,” another resident disclosed.
The residents said the Boko Haram insurgents warned that anyone who would not accept Islam should leave the village.

FamilyMy Husband Married Me To Make Money by AJOT99(op): 10:42am On Nov 07, 2014
A 27-year-old woman, Folashade Adebayo, has prayed the Customary Court, Alakuko, a Lagos suburb, to dissolve her five-month marriage to Mathew, whom she accused of being fetishistic.
Mrs. Adebayo, an advert manager in a private company, said: “A month after we got married, my husband forced me to swear that I would not tell anyone that he took me to a herbalist. I was given a black soap from a calabash, while my husband’s soap was in a white container. Each time I use the soap as instructed, my late mother is always fighting me in my sleep.
“We were told to slaughter a goat at the end of every month. But when my husband couldn’t afford it, I overheard him telling the herbalist that he would prefer a human being to an animal. I told the head of my family because I was tired of seeing my mother fighting me. It was then I was told that my husband wanted to use me for money ritual. We are just incompatible. My husband said if I am no longer interested, I should inform the clerics who joined us to dissolve our marriage. It’s been three months since I left his house. I don’t want to remain in this marriage.”
However, 37-year-old Adebayo, who transports charcoal, denied the allegation, saying: “My wife volunteered to follow me; I did not force her. Even when the herbalist wanted to give me the soap, my wife requested hers. Whenever there is lull in my business, my wife threatens to leave the house. My intentions were misconstrued. I pray my mistakes are corrected because I still love my wife.”
The court’s President, Chief Awos Awosola, advised the couple to maintain peace and be law-abiding. He adjourned the case till November 27.

PoliticsCAN Accuses INEC Of Plotting To Disenfranchise Nigerian Christians by AJOT99(op): 9:52am On Nov 07, 2014
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is deliberately planning to shut out Christians in the country from voting in the 2015 general elections.
The President of CAN, Ayo Oritsejafor, who stated this at the association’s national executive council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, said he was suspicious of a sinister motive by the Commission following its poor handling of the distribution of the permanent voters’ cards.
He, however, warned that Christians would resist such a plan if the Commission was truly harbouring it just as he appealed to faithful to register and vote in other to participate in governance.
Mr. Oritsejafor did however not substantiate his claims. He did not say exactly how the electoral body is shutting out Christians and how it is failing to issue them cards.
He only said, “I want to say passionately to Nigerians, go and get your voters’ cards. I want to appeal to INEC to double up. Our people must register and have their voters’ cards.
“I hope INEC is not doing something deliberate here in order to prevent Christians from voting. I hope Professor Attahiru Jega can hear me. We must all vote and vote wisely.”
The clergyman also warned the Boko Haram sect to end their terrorist activities in the North East region, adding that the association was ready to meet senior Muslim clerics with a view to ending the insurgency and unprovoked attack on Christians and churches.
He demanded that fifth columnists among security agencies, which allegedly are sabotaging government’s war against insurgency, should be fished out and dismissed.
According to him, the nation’s territories that had been taken over by the dreaded Boko Haram sect are predominantly populated by Christians who he said were no longer safe.
Mr. Oritsejafor restated that the insurgents were waging a religious war against Christians, adding that he had remained a critic of the satanic activities of the group.
“What is happening in the North-east is unacceptable,” he said.
“What is happening there is unacceptable to us. Christians are the main victims. We are not saying that other people are not affected. But Christians are the ones affected more. All the places where Boko Haram has foisted their flags are dominated by Christians.”
“They have taken over Mubi in Adamawa state which is dominated by Christians. Somebody will now tell me this is not religion. Who is fooling who? Nigerians should accept that we have a problem,” the leader of Christian community in Nigeria stated.
Again, Mr. Oritsejafor did not provide facts and figures to back his claim that adherents of a particular religion have been more on the receiving end of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The CAN president however called on Nigerians to pray to God to put an end to the mindless killings.
He said he would not join other Nigerians who had created names for themselves by constantly criticising the military, but would continue to ask the leadership of the military to fish out saboteurs if the war against terror must be won.
He said, “All well meaning Nigerians must pray and continue to pray. We must pray. I will not join those condemning our security agencies. They are Nigerians. Women are losing their husbands and children are losing their fathers. I want to challenge the military. They can do better. They must continue to fish out those sabotaging their efforts. Those people should be expelled. They are in all the security agencies.
“No matter the intention you have, if you have people working against you, you will not succeed. There are too many people in the system working against the system. Why should these kind of things be happening? Innocent people are being killed. It’s too much. Enough is enough,” Mr. Oritsejafor told the audience.

Mr. Oritsejafor also reminded the Federal Government and other Nigerians of the need to adopt new approach in the war against Boko Haram, noting that the use of force alone could not end the insurgent activities.
According to him, “Even though I have said the military must continue to work harder, guns and bullets alone will not save this problem. Boko Haram is an ideology. Let us not run away from it. You do not defeat an ideology with guns and bullets. You defeat an ideology with a superior ideology. Boko Haram will not listen to me.
“I want to make an appeal to our Muslim clerics and Muslim political leaders to come together and see how they can help us solve this problem. They have the solution. There are some muslim scholars Boko Haram members respect. To a large extent, that is the only way out.
“As members of CAN, we are ready to meet with them. I believe in progressive dialogue. This is my strong appeal. I want to appeal to those at the grassroots. This connects to the leaders. The leaders should talk to those at the grassroots. They should give reliable intelligence to our security agents. Please, do not harbour these people. They are not fighting for you. Expose them.
While noting that there were journalists at the meeting, the cleric asked them to pass the message to the relevant authorities.
He said Nigerians would like to have a better country where everyone was equal and have respect for the constitution.
In fact, we want one constitution where everyone will follow. Those saying Boko Haram is not religious are deceiving themselves.
“We want a Nigeria where everyone is safe. We want a Nigerian where a man is not judged by his religion. That is the Nigeria we all want. If we want one united Nigeria, we must all pay the price for it.”
Mr. Oritsejafor called on the international community to assist Nigeria and its people to surmount the current challenges.
He said, “I believe as bad as the situation is, with God, all things are possible. I know that there is God. He will not forsake us. We have restrained our people so much and we will continue to restrain them. But I beg Nigerians to not let this continue. These are dangerous and serious times.
“I was reading a report from a priest in Borno of how churches have been destroyed. I wonder why the international community is not saying anything. Is this not human rights violation? We call on government, NEMA, NGOs, the international community. We need help. Our people are dying. Come and help us.”

PoliticsResign Now, Tambuwal Tells Jonathan by AJOT99(op): 9:24am On Nov 07, 2014
The embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, on Wednesday, came down hard on President Goodluck Jonathan, asking him to resign from office for running “a system that does not have the interest of the country at heart”.
Addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ilorin, Kwara State, during the formal declaration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for a second term, the Speaker warned that should the president failed to do so, Nigerian voters should revolt against him at the February presidential poll.
The Speaker had, at the APC extra-ordinary convention last week, said the party would chase out the “cabal” running the country at the poll next year.
“I call on President Jonathan to resign from office because of all the mis-governance and the untold hardship Nigerians are presently passing through,” he said. If he fails to do that it is therefore incumbent on us as a people to turn out en-masse and vote out Goodluck Ebele Jonathan come 2015. That will bring peace, progress and development of Nigeria.’’
He continued, “I am sure that (Kwara) state will provide such leadership to the extent that we shall deliver this country to the government at the centre to APC,” he said in Ilorin on Wednesday.
‘’By voting APC at the centre you will be voting for prosperity and eradication of poverty. What we are witnessing today in Nigeria is not governance, but mis-governance. We are witnessing a system that does not have the interest of the people of this country at heart.”
The Speaker described Kwara State’s political history as a rich one, saying the foundation of the political struggle and the structure laid by the late Olusola Saraki was being sustained by God.
Stating that the voting pattern known among the people of Kwara State would not be different next year, Mr. Tambuwal noted that with the support of the people, the APC would “form 100 percent of the government in the state from the local council to state Assembly and to the Government House”.
Also speaking at the event, a former governor of Lagos , Bola Tinubu, lambasted Mr. Jonathan for allowing the Boko Haram terrorists to seize parts of the nation’s territory, stating that he ought to have resigned because of the development.
He said, ‘’I saw the sea of refuges and the lies coming from Jonathan’s administration. They have exhibited failure, lack of capacity, vision, creativity; the lie of yesterday is what they repeat today and it is what they will repeat tomorrow. They are lying to you. They are lying about the security, toying about the security of this country. I don’t have time to explain the logic of their lies.’’
‘’If you control the armed forces and you are the Commander-in-Chief of the armed of the federal republic, why should any part of this country be under occupation?
“And you give us excuses every day. In any civilised country, Jonathan should have resigned. But if he will not resign he should wait for our broom we will sweep them away.’’
The APC leader, who recently returned from a medical trip abroad, asked the party members to be ready for change because the race had begun.
He said the party had endorsed Mr. Ahmed for second term because he performed well in office like his predecessor, Bukola Saraki.
Mr. Tinubu alleged that the PDP administration not only steals the people’s money on daily basis, but also refused to give them jobs.
According to him, “The thieves that daily steal your money, they have not given you any job; they cannot create jobs and they are starving states of funds to pay workers salaries. The best thing to do is to sweep them away through broom revolution. APC is a party of the masses.’’
He said this was the first time he would be on a podium with Mr. Saraki to campaign for the same party, and asked the APC faithful in the state to commence a house-to-house campaign to signal a new beginning.
He added, ‘’Now it is time to apply commonsense revolution and it is about your lives. It is about your education, your jobs and about the security of this country. We stay together since independence and we will remain together. Any affecting any section of this country affects all of us.’’
‘’I will come back. This is just the endorsement of Governor Ahmed; that he will be re-elected by the grace of God with the support of you people here and those outside there. The unemployment situation will be conquered by this administration of APC. We have the vision for the security of lives of our children.’’
On his part, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said he was a foundation member of the current political dispensation in Kwara State.
While wishing that the late Saraki were alive, Mr. Abubakar said, “We should make sure we sustain the legacy Oloye left behind by making sure that Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is returned.”
Justifying his bid for second term, Mr. Ahmed said the state was much better than he met it.
“Today, before all of you, I make bold to say we have essentially fulfilled our covenant and in the process strengthened your faith in governance,’’ he said.
“I humbly and formally declare my intention to run for a second term in office so that I can do more for our state and its people. By the grace of God and with your mandate, we intend to accelerate the development of our state when re-elected for a second term in office.’’
Other APC leaders at the event, held at Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, were presidential hopefuls, Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso of Kano State and Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.
Governors Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, former Governor Bukola Saraki and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, were also in attendance.
