So is Mad Sweeny obligated to keep Laura alive till her said resurrection?

And i have always wanted to ask but forget, what's with the flies that is always around Laura??
Episode 7 reveals they go way back. I believe Laura is the reincarnation of Essie. Mad sweeny maybe feels obligated for old time sake or maybe it must be freely given back. The flies are around because Laura'd body is still slowly decomposing.

Is Tech boy not supposed to be as powerful as media and even Mr world? To me technology advanced the same time with media and even Mr world.. Still don't know why he is the youngest among them.
World existed as a branches of knowledge science, medicine, geography etc, Media existed in newspaper, magazine ,theater . Tech boy, social media, internet, WhatsApp is relatively younger than these 2.

I don't think so. Remember that czenoborg called himself the dark(bad) god while his brother was called the white (good) god.

Shadow is a god killer that's why Wednesday hired him as a personal bodyguard. Remember that even the new gods are afraid of him.
god killer? Tech boy lynched and hung him. I think the reference was to Czenoborg.
Travel / Re: My Funny Experience At Passport Office In Lagos by Akanniade(m): 4:21pm On May 26, 2017
Naijasinglegirl:
I was told I would need passport photographs, copies of my birth certificate and my certificate of origin to apply for an international passport. No one mentioned the N1,000 and N500 tips here and there.

I met a crowd under a canopy who came for the same purpose when I arrived the passport office in Ikeja. My contact gave me a form to fill and told me to join them. After waiting for more than three hours, I was told my file won’t be processed until I had a guarantor, a challenge that took me two weeks to fix.

When I returned two weeks later for what they call capturing, I met an even larger crowd triggered by the shortage of passport booklets. Among the crowd were returnees who were there to renew their passport. You know the usual IJGB signs – tattoos, bling-blings, jerry curl hair, weird haircuts, wanna ganna accent, singlets and shorts with winter boots etc.

One guy walked in with a basket ball displaying all of the above signs. It appeared he was there earlier in the day to renew his passport but left when he couldn’t stand the queue. An officer came out to pacify the crowd and this guy, who decided to be our mouthpiece shouted, “Damn man! Shit iz taking too long. We aint gat all day here. I gat practice by 4 man.”

Then he turned to me and said, “Mest up country yo!” Me, I was just like, O-O

4pm, we were still waiting. Another officer came out to call names and the Americana’s name was exempted. This time around, he broke into pidgin in a clear Nigerian accent. “Officer I don tire to dey wait! Person go come die ontop passport! Na wa oh”

People who heard him earlier were laughing. Then he stormed into the main building angrily. It wasn’t long my name was called in for capturing. Beside the capturing office is an iron gate which serves as a jail and Americana and his basketball were doing time there. Apparently he had gone in to make trouble and one of the no-nonsense officers had bundled him into the jail. This time I heard him swearing in Americana, pidgin and Yoruba.

I walked into the capturing room and the capturing officer took one look at me and walked me out. He said they weren’t going to photograph me because I was not dressed properly. I was befuddled seeing that I was dressed in a sleeveless maxi dress which is decent enough in my own opinion. However, I quietly left in search of whom to borrow jacket from but I found no one.

There was a ‘Nigerian mother’ seated outside with their signature scarf wrapped around her neck. I explained my situation and asked her if I could borrow her scarf for a few minutes. After an eternity of staring at me from feet to head as though my approach was disrespectful, she grudgingly handed her scarf to me.

I returned to the office with the scarf wrapped around my shoulder.

When I overheard another officer say, “This her hair eh,” I knew I was in for part two.

The capturing officer told me to pack my weaves. I did just that with a rubber band. He complained my left ear was not visible. I tucked my weaves behind my ears. He said my forehead was not completely visible.

I took off the wig.

The man was shocked. Some people present were giggling. A girl who was on the queue for capturing said the officer should attend to other people while she assist me with adjusting the wig. Left for her I would have taken that passport peacefully in my didi hairstyle.

Five minutes of being told to tilt my neck clockwise, semi clockwise and anti-clockwise in front of the camera, I was successfully captured.

By then, the woman who gave me the scarf had barged in to demand for it. I returned it to her and she held it by an edge as though I had infected the scarf with a virus.

One of the officers who gave me tough time had quietly slipped his phone number to me while I signed out. Outside the office, two elderly female officers called me aside and started lecturing me on indecent dressing. They said I was supposed to wear a suit to take the passport so I don’t end up being mistaken for someone who is travelling for prostitution by the officials at foreign airports. I told them it was the work of the devil.

On the good side, I now own an international passport.

Italy here I come!

I think shadow is a god who doesn't know his powers yet. Remember in episode 1 where he tossed the golden coin which dropped on his wife's grave. The coin sunk into the coffin as shown in episode 3 when that guy was digging the grave to retrieve the coin. Apparently the power from the coin raised his wife from the dead. I think shadow is a bigger god every other gods what to get acquainted to.
The golden coin is the leprechaun's(mad sweeney) lucky coin. The coin has powers, hence mad sweeney searching madly for it because his luck ran ou as seen in the car mishap and the near miss bullet.

Sorry oo...I'm not really getting the movie...sometimes I just get lost.... one minute the movie is about shadow and Wednesday and the other cast...next thing something unrelated just comes up...example: a scene about one Muslim dude and a genie doing some gayy shiiit...another scene about how a woman died and her heart was removed and scaled against a feather before being sent into one of the 5 great doors before her....
Really wats the correlation btw these scenes cos me I don't understand?
From ur last few sentence, are u saying shadow is Jesus in the movie??
The story is non linear. Try to read the book.

I wouldn't advice that.
I remember when I watched the first season of the magicians, I really liked it. when I found out that it was an adaptation of a novel, I quickly downloaded the trilogy and read them all.

when I was through with the novel, I was totally disillusioned. the series paled in comparison to the novel. from the point onwards, I started hating the series
Very true for most tv adapted books, but trust me this one is different. You will enjoy the show better if you read the book.

I know that you aren't slighting the Islamic religion however, all the old gods are traditional gods not religious. Eg Odin is a Viking god, Anasi is Ghanaian traditional god, Anubis is an ancient Egyptian god etc.
What you call religion still has their pagan origin, but thats another kettle of fish entirely.
The book and show didnt feature a christain 'god' but the e03 dialogue involved reference to different 'jesus'- black jesus, white jesus, swarthy greek jesus, mexican jesus doing well across america. They even jested that the hispanic jesus swam across the border to get to america.
TV/Movies / Re: Who Is Watching "American Gods" by Akanniade(m): 6:27am On May 16, 2017
dragonking3:
Well, I disagree.
The Islamic myth never termed her to use her vagina to swallow men.

Also, in the TV series, the gods being portrayed here are all traditional gods and not religious gods. Eg, Odin, Anasi, Bilquis, Anubis, even the leprechaun guy are all traditional gods worshiped by traditional people that came to America.

So it is more of old gods(traditional gods) vs new gods (modern gods)
Dont get me wrong. I am not trying to slight the Islamic religion, but you will agree there are fantasies even in mainstream religions by false gospels or hadiths. For example 'bel and the dragon' a biblical aprochypa book is mostly fantasies.

Kinda hard to understand these scenes....maybe ill have to read d book...i've had it on my fone for ages anyway...
The writer tries to weave superstition , mythical account of various cultures that found its way to america.
For example in episode 3, two old gods were introduced; anubis of the egyptian underworld who brings the dead for judgement and ifrit an arabian djinn. The 2 xters went out of their way to remain relevant in a world where tech boy and media- new gods were taking over.

Actually, the goddess bilquis in American gods is also a yoruba goddess. Bilquis is also termed to be the queen of Sheba.
The only question I have is what exactly is her power.
The book and show exploits the arabic/islamic myth that she swallows men through her vagina.

The series is about gods brought to america, by explorers, slavery , migration etc.
Her power is seduction, she craves adoration. Its symbolic of the modern day slay queens, serial divorcee ruining men.

As in ehnnn crazy series! I'm loving it gan. You know after the episode two I actually went to google to type 'American gods episode 2 igbo language". Lol. I know I can be so extra. It didn't bring up any Nairaland link then because I'm guessing this thread was opened recently.

I'm not igbo but that guy spoke the igbo fluently.

One of the scariest scenes for me was when the goddess Bilquis was swallowing men with her vagina. Bruh! Scariest shit ever.
Forgotten god of love. The more sex she has the more her power grows. Thats why she says worship me.

What is the series all about? Can you summarize the episodes you have watched?
Its based on a book of same title. Its about clash of old and new gods with vested interest in america. Its majorly symbolic. It would make most sense to those who have read the book or have
rich knowledge of history.
The episodes so far is about team old gods; led by wednesday-nordic Odin, rallying other gods for epic battle against the new gods of technology. Wednesday co-opts shadow an ex-con to carry out his mission.
Filled with spartacus styled sex scene and gory slashing of limbs, it actually brings the book to life.

The Igbo is quite terrible, I doubt if those guys are really Igbo's. I can't still fathom what that series is about anyway. Let me just watch till episode 5 and if nothing changes, I will stop wasting my hard earned data on it.
Its not you regular fantasy series. They are following the book almost to the letter. The characters are symbolic of different gods of antiquity past seeking relevance or 'worship' in a modern age where the new gods are technology, social media and gadgets. It infuses other themes into the storyline too. You need to be conversant with history to fully enjoy this show.
Wednesday, gathers the old gods to confront the new ones growing stronger by the day.

If Hitler was that bad, such a bad man , why didn't he exterminate all Africans living in Germany from 1933 through 1945 ? Why didn't the Germans go after Africans from German colonies ?
From many sources one can read Africans were not harassed nor persecuted by the Gestapo. The main issue they had was the usual discrimination when it comes to being enlisted in the army.
But this type of discrimination was also going on in the US .
Moreover he told the Jews to live the country ( Note here people are not elaborating on the key reasons why he singled out the Jews out of other communities, what were the Jews doing that upset him ) .
It was after a Jewish attack on a German embassy in France, Germans got upset and start attacking Jews.
He had special plan for africa as slave force. Africans were no threat to his agenda. The jews were a threat and he holds them partly responsible for the fall of the Reich. Read Mein Kampf.
