InesQor: Some possible theories: (a) Wildfire (though this shouldn't be a rumor anymore. Tyrion used it in the past already. The rumor might be that the wildfire is located beneath the Septum, making it easy to take out the High Sparrow and his crew). (b) Rumor that Tyrion is with Daenerys - and so Cersei may be considering an alliance (c) Rumor that the Tyrells orchestrated Joffery's death. Implicating Maergery might turn King Tommen around. (d) A rumor that undermines the High Sparrow's credibility and shows that he is a hypocrite. Some evidence of dirty linen e.g. the high sparrow is a paedophile, or something like that, could change the scene.
A man is getting tired of all the interesting theories - only to finally see an underwhelming plot on TV. She is already undermined in court. She called the high septon's bluff by killing his man. She needs to act fast to save her neck. The wildfire is her last resort. |

Nihilist: I don't think I did...and I suspect that you are the one missing my point.
Your point was that the High Sparrow is secretly using the faith as a vehicle for his ambition.I don't know if you are very conversant with Nigerian politics, but the high sparrow's rise to power is very similar to Jonas'
Both were initially granted power by their patrons. Both then consildated this power on a platform of populist rhetoric of transformation, intended to resonate heavily with a disenfranchised population far disconnected from the ruling class.
Eventually Jonathan's message of transformation and hope would be discovered to be false...and while a similar exposure of the High Sparrow's message has yet to happen on the show, you(and many others) already believe his message to be false as well.
Anyway, my point has been thus: Even taking in to consideration the idea thar the high sparrow is a charlatan, and merely using religion as a cloak for his real goal of political power, why do we not still suport him...especially as he represents the common man?
It's not like the other candidates are particularly pursuing altruistic agendas in their quest for the throne.
Rob Stark and the Baratheons were ready to kill and would ultimately die for a stolen mandate.
Danaerys is currently destroying several cities in succession as she pursues her nakedd ambition to her grandfather's old chair.
So why shouldnt the high sparrow use (false)religious fervor to his favour much in the same way the other contestants use their bloodlines and ancient sworn oaths? Now I get your point. |
TV/Movies › Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Akanniade(m): 9:22pm On Jun 07, 2016 |
Nihilist: Every single character on the show craves power. Isn't that the whole point of the show? To showcase the machinations and politicking involved when chasing the ultimate prize?
Danaerys goes around destroying civilisations and cultures that have stood for several years. Jon Snow and Sansa are both waging a war for a title that was stolen by their father.
Why shouldn't we salute the common shoeless man, who rose from obscurity and schemed his way into the corridors of power? At least we applauded his real life analogue Talking of real life analogue, if you meant Jona, then you miss my point entirely. |

Santino1: Fair point Akanniade.
The reason I don't like him is from a story telling perspective. Ever since his introduction, most of the King Landing's plotlines (Cerise, Maegery, Lady Olenna) have kinda stalled. I love the old King Landing where you have complex webs of plots and subplots. I share your sentiments. Lets hope the high sparrow is just s brief distraction and the houses get back to slugging it out. |

Nihilist: Great observation. I'm not sure why people don't seem to like the high sparrow - In a world where rulership is determined by birth rather than by merit, where absolute power is only attainable to certain bloodlines, and where people would go to extreme lengths tof achieve this power, the High Sparrow represents the common man; risen up to seize his own destiny from the undeserving, immature and incompetent Tommens of this world. Yet most people tend to identify more with Danaerys and Jon Snow or Arya. What does this say about us as people though? Are we mostly an audience of nascent dictators unconsciously waiting for a chance to conquer, subdue and murder whole cities? Cos he's pretentious like his real world counterparts. Feigning ecclesiastical zeals while destroying fellow men. His weakness may not be money, wine, whores etc, but he craves power. He is the most dangerous of all. He plays them like a chessmaster |

Vickyydera: It almost had to have been Jaquen that pose as Arya. We've seen him use Arya's face before, last season. Arya had untold amounts of cold, hard cash and beautiful clothes seemingly from nowhere. Her dialogue wasn't consistent with her character. Arya also wouldn't be stupid enough to let her guard down like that. I say Jaquen lured the waif (who has now disobeyed him) and is posing as Arya in a very public way, thus giving more credence to her death. I don't know but if you put all the details together it makes sense that a girl wasn't arya last night... Never are we shown that she get a lot of money....she didn't seem to get a lot while begging. Also Jaquen walks with his two hands behind his back, arya dont walk like that ,she also didn't have her needles. I concur with your theory. Arya cant just retrogress, after all the trainings she got. |

TV/Movies › Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Akanniade(m): 1:53pm On Jun 05, 2016 |
UjSizzle: Reminds me of this : How dangerous is Euron Greyjoy?
Euron is crazy and ambitious.
Joffrey was a little crazy, too. He only wanted the power to be cruel when he wanted because it got him off or because internalized his mother’s admonitions to ‘be strong’ in a weird way. Not that smart though.
Ramsay is a little crazier and a little smarter. He wants to play with people’s mind. Destroy them and kill them in horrific ways. He takes care of threats. He’s pre-emptive, pro-active.
Various other people have displayed ambition, yearning for the the power of kingship, for various reasons:
Stannis for his right and for justice Renly because he looked good in a crown Robb for Northern nationalism Mance Rayder for survival of a people Balon Greyjoy because it’s just fun to mess things up when you get a chance. Daenerys for glory, vengeance and a dream of human rights(at least at the beginning.) Euron is different.
Euron says he’s going for the Iron Throne. But he’s not.
Euron wants to rule the world. Euron wants to be God. Euron wants to bring on the bloody apocalypse and laugh like crazy when the world dies bleeding, flaming, drowned or frozen at his feet. Euron wants to take the bleeding red comet and shove it up the world’s arse.
Euron takes your rational ambition, your reason, eats it, shits it out and feeds it to his own bastard sons, whose tongues he’s ripped out. Euron eats his own kind because that is the kind of thing that makes him laugh.
Then he pumps you full of LSD, ties you up, flays his girlfriend alive in front of your face, demands that you bow down and worship him and calls forth Deep Ones from the bottom of the sea to take over the universe.
Dude is nuts.
Definitely makes Ramsay look like child's play. All this from just 2 episodes of Euron. Dont raise your hopes too high. |
