REFLECTION OF THE POLITICAL TROUBLES BREWING IN EDO By Comrade Robinson Akhenoba In Edo's land where troubles brew, Governor Obaseki, in power, grew, Yet many say he's made it his own, The state's fate hanging on his throne. A leader once, now deemed a lord, His rule beset by chaos and discord, No safety, schools, or roads to see, In his shadow, the people plea. His grip tight, his impact void, Development and progress, left destroyed, A legacy of neglect and dismay. In Edo State where power corrupts, Governor Obaseki's rule disrupts, Lawlessness grips the judiciary's fate, And the legislative arm bends to his dictate. His chosen successor, full of pride, Deceitful shrouded in education's guise, A candidate tainted by association, Their bond a web of manipulation. Pockets lined with ill-gotten gain, The people's trust he tries to feign, But the truth of his reign is plain to see. Injustice and corruption, a poisonous tree, Yet in the shadows, the truth shall break free, The people of Edo, resilient and strong, Will rise united, against all that is wrong. The pockets of deceit, weighed down by lies, Shall crumble and fall as the truth flies, Their trust will not be swayed or betrayed, For in unity and justice, their strength is laid. The reign of darkness, soon to fade, As the light of justice cuts through the line. In Edo's heart, a leader stands tall, Honored by many, loved by all, Comrade Philip, a man of the people, In his care, hopes and dreams ripple. With closeness to the common man's plight, Youth and sports, shining bright, A beacon of hope in Edo's land, Guided by a compassionate hand. Chosen by the people's voice, Their hearts and hopes, his choice, Yet hurdles placed in his way, By those who seek to sway, But the spirit of Comrade Shaibu prevails, In the face of challenges, he unfurls his sails. With the people's strength at his back, He bravely follows the right track, Through storms of deceit and greed, Comrade Shaibu's leadership takes the lead. In the heart of Edo, a flame burns bright, Guided by honor, truth, and right, The people's choice, a shining star, Comrade Shaibu, they know.... Edo 2024 Guber: Obaseki Illegalities Will not Stand As Governor Godwin Obaseki and his adopted Edo Governorship candidate continue to perpetuate illegalities, Edo people are very much hopeful that justice will surely prevail. Obaseki's manipulation of Edo PDP's primary election to introduce Asue Ighodalo as his successor, rather than the favored candidate Philip Shaibu, has continued to spark controversy and division in PDP and Edo in general. The people of Edo have also continued to express their dissatisfaction with the illegitimate practices by Obaseki in all his attempts to influence the outcome of the primary. Despite Obaseki's efforts, Philip Shaibu remains a highly regarded candidate among the populace, seen as the ideal choice for governorship in the upcoming election. As the legal proceedings unfold, with a judgment expected on March 21, 2024, regarding the validity of the PDP primary, the people of Edo maintain a sense of optimism that justice will prevail and that Philip Shaibu will emerge victorious. The outcome of these events will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the political landscape in Edo and the future governance of the state. Stay Tuned, Edo will succeed! EDO 2024: UNEASY CALM ENVELOPS OBASEKI CAMP The legal dispute surrounding the Edo State Governorship primary election held on February 22, 2024, has created a sense of unease in Governor Godwin Obaseki's camp. Edo State Deputy Governor and PDP Governorship Aspirant, Philip Shaibu, has taken legal action by initiating a case against Asue Ighodalo, INEC, PDP, and others at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Philip Shaibu is currently seeking legal recourse to nullify the Edo State Governorship primary election that occurred at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The outcome of this legal battle is highly uncertain, but based on current indications, it appears that Governor Obaseki's camp may face challenges in securing a favorable outcome. Conversely, Philip Shaibu stands a chance of emerging victorious in this legal contest. The implications of this dispute on the political landscape of Edo State are significant, as it reflects the complexities and intricacies of democratic processes and party politics. The Obaseki camp is reportedly losing support from key political party players and voters in the state, while Shaibu is demonstrating a high level of determination to secure the PDP Governorship ticket, either through a rerun democratic process or by pursuing legal avenues. This situation points to a critical juncture in Edo State politics, with potential implications for the future leadership of the state. Edo State House of Assembly Serves Deputy Governor Impeachment Notice: A Battle of Political Ambitions By The Political Evangelist In a rare turn of events, Governor Obaseki and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have embarked on a historical journey by initiating impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu. This move marks the first time in the history of Edo State, since 1999, that such an action has been taken. Allegations of disclosing government secrets, false accusations against the governor, and perjury have been cited as the basis for this unhealthy impeachment notice served by the state Assembly led by Honorable Blessing Agbebaku. The Political Evangelist aim to provide an in-depth analysis of the ongoing political battle between Governor Obaseki and Deputy Governor Shaibu, shedding light on its legal and ethical implications. A History of Political Rivalry The animosity between Governor Obaseki and Deputy Governor Shaibu dates back to 2022 when the governor requested Shaibu to contest in the Edo North Senate against his own father, Senator Adams Oshiomohle. Shaibu steadfastly refused, marking the beginning of a long-drawn-out political clash. The tensions further escalated in 2023 when Governor Obaseki initially sought to commence impeachment proceedings against Shaibu through the Edo State House of Assembly. However, Shaibu managed to halt the process by obtaining a restraining order from the federal high court. Impeachment Grounds: A Question of Legitimacy One crucial aspect of this impeachment notice is the question of who is truly liable for impeachment. Is it the governor, who publicly humiliated and expelled his deputy from the office illegally, simply for harboring ambitions of becoming the governor himself? Or is it the deputy governor, who remains loyal to his principal while pursuing his own dreams of assuming the gubernatorial office? It is important to emphasize that Philip Shaibu's aspirations to succeed Governor Obaseki are not a legitimate basis for impeachment. Similarly, his decision to challenge the legalities of the Edo PDP Governorship primaries through a lawsuit should not be used as a pretext for political vendetta. The Constitution's Intent It is crucial to understand that using impeachment as a means to settle political scores goes against the very essence of the constitution. The objective of impeachment, as outlined in Section 188, is to address cases of serious misconduct or abuse of power by public officials. It is not meant to be exploited as a tool to suppress political opponents or advance personal agendas. The constitution upholds the principles of fairness, due process, and the protection of democratic institutions. Any attempt to circumvent these principles in the pursuit of narrow political gain undermines the sanctity of our democratic system. Conclusion The impeachment notice served by the Edo State House of Assembly against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu showcases the heightened political tensions and rivalries that exist within the state. However, it is vital to remember that political ambition and personal disagreements should not overshadow the proper application of constitutional principles. Impeachment should only be pursued when there is genuine evidence of misconduct or abuse, rather than as a means to settle political scores or thwart political aspirations. As Edo State navigates through this challenging period, it is essential for all stakeholders to ensure that the rule of law prevails and that the sanctity of democratic institutions is upheld. According to you, 2023 Shaibu had a provision in the budget of N1.3bn for the running of the office. As at July, he had drawn down all the money within six months. As a student of history, why not also tell the public how Shaibu spent his personal 1.6billion naira for PDP litigations and the general elections that your governor promised to pay back, yet refused to release kobo? How much is 25 filling station that those who are not into elective office owned that Shaibu who have been in the system long before your governor came in cannot have? If Shaibu has 25 filling stations that means he is still very poor compared to DVD and others who owned more than 25 in the same city without budget allocation. Also let the public know the budget your governor approved for the stadium renovation and how much Shaibu actually spent that far less than the approved budgetary. When the time comes, we will reply all this allegations with facts and figures. Certainly someone is going to end up in the EFCC net. Thank God I am privy to every info. |

Osaze Ethan Uzamere, on an inspection of Ovia River Bridge to assess the level of damage. The bad spot on the river bridge has claimed so many lives, especially since the rains set in this year. On arrival at the river bridge in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, it was discovered that another accident just occurred involving a truck, a Sienna and Lexus car with a lady (name withheld) trapped in the Lexus car at the middle of the bridge. Some of the vehicles involved in the multiple accident were immediately towed from the road to allow for free flow of traffic. Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver lost control due to overspeeding and hit a commercial Sienna car from the rear, while the Lexus 350 car went off-balance and obstructed another car in front. The Deputy Governor, however, stated that the State Government will immediately carry out palliative measures as it has engaged Levante Construction Company.
