My Trumpet flyover bridge will stop preventable deaths -Aregbesola

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State said yesterday that the flyover bridge he built on the Osogbo/Ife-Ibadan expressway would stop incessant motor accidents and preventable deaths on the road.

Speaking at a colloquium organised by Progressive e-Group in Osogbo, the state capital to review his seven year old administra-tion, Aregbesola said he had fulfilled his campaign promises and made positive impact on the lives of people of the state.

“We have completed the Trumpet flyover bridge on the Osogbo/Ife-Ibadan expressway and this will certainly stop incessant motor accidents at the Gbongan junction and preventable deaths on the road,” he said.

“Motorists are already using that bridge and when I looked at that bridge, I told myself that even on the day of judgement, that bridge alone is enough to speak for me before God.”

The governor commen-ded the Progressive e-Group and all youths in the state for their genuine interest in the development of the state and charged them to remain committed to the growth and progress of the state.

Nairaland GeneralRregional Youth Summit Communique by Akinlab15(op): 3:27am On Jan 12, 2018
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUDED 1ST REGIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT.

THE REGIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT held at the WOCDIF Center, 9th & 10th January 2017 together to discuss the aspirations of the proposed Strategic Western Nigeria Development Roadmap, and chart out innovative initiatives for the future. The theme of the summit is PRODUCTIVITY, PROSPERITY AND PEACE.

At the end of the summit the youth gathering agreed and resolved on the following actions as imperatives for the vision of the Strategic 25 year Western Nigeria Masterplan.
VISION for 2040
A region less dependent on fossil fuels
A region that is a hub for tourism and agricultural competitiveness
An educated workforce
A region of technologically developed urban centers
A peaceful and secure region
A globally competitive Yoruba Language and culture.
IMPERATIVES
GOVERNANCE AND POLITICS
That the entire Yoruba youth insist on restructuring of the current warped federal arrangement that stifles the growth of our region.
That from history, the youth agreed that the golden era of the region was in the era of regional governments and we should revert to a system of federalism based on regionalism
That the youth of Western Nigeria affirm their belief in one united Nigeria based on fairness, equity and strict adherence of doctrine of federalism, separation of powers and rule of law.
The need to enshrine in the Federal constitution a role for plebiscites or referendums on certain issues of public importance.
Youths in the region should be encouraged to participate in political governance at both the legislative and executive levels. The NOT TO YOUNG TO RUN proposal should be properly institutionalized at both federal and state elections.
That the Youth of Western Nigeria condemn the incessant herdsmen attack on innocent people across the country and appeal to the federal government to act as a matter of urgency to avert massive reprisal attacks.
That anti- open grazing laws be enacted throughout the country and commercially driven ranches be established.

EDUCATION
That the ultimate goal of education should essentially be to produce the quintessential Omoluabi, both in content and character. Our Education should bring enlightenment to the human mind; prepare people for the world of work; provide the platform for leadership recruitment and provide the means for character building, especially the development of the Total Man
ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT
To tackle poor entrepreneurial skills and financial illiteracy, support and policies in Business Development and Entrepreneurial skill Development; and Financial Literacy Training should be deployed in states of the region
That Legal and Regulatory Frameworks should be put in place to harmonize and simplify the regime of taxes and levies and State governments to make public their services, procedures, cost and redress mechanism to encourage payment of taxes to lessen reliance on federal allocation.
The creative economy and informal economy (film, music, fashion, food, photography etc) should be properly structured to stimulate creativity and economic growth.
AGRICULTURE
That enablers should be put in place so the agriculture value chain be optimized for youth participation
SECURITY
That Joint actions will be pursued and sustained on security threats to guarantee the safety of lives, property and prosperity of the people of the region

At the end of the summit, all participants agreed that 25-year master plan as conceived by the Governments of the Western Nigeria is a step in the right direction and commend the government and people of the State of Osun and DAWN Commission on convening the Regional Youth Summit and look forward to the next edition in Oyo state.
To secure the future and that to articulate the shared values and aspirations of the Region in a living document and translating such to implementable actions and interventions will definitely make Western Nigeria a most preferred place to live, to work and to invest in the near future

Nairaland GeneralVP Will Be Live In Osogbo For The Regional Youth Summit 9n Tuesday And Wednesday by Akinlab15(op): 6:45am On Jan 06, 2018
VP Osinbajo, Tinubu, Soyinka, Others Storm Osun For Regional Youth Summit

The Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo is expected to declare open the Osun State Regional Youth Summit on Tuesday, 9th at WODIF center in Osogbo, the State capital.

Others expected include a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, award winning writer, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Gen. Alani Akinrinde, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II among other top dignitaries.

Speaking on the programme, the Commissioner For Regional Integration, Hon. Bola Ilori said the summit is to bring youths across the Western Region together to generate ideas that would take the region to greater heights.

“The summit is to provide platform for the youths of western region, to come together and plan the future of the region. The script will be written by them on how this region will be by 20 years and that is why we call it “West 2040”. So it is to involve the youths in the planning of how the region will be by year 2040.

“The Genesis of this was that all the Governors of the West met in July 23rd at Abeokuta where they resolved that there should be 25 years master plan for the region.”

Debunking the news that the Summit is politically motivated, Ilori said the Summit has no political undertone, adding that the Summit isn’t about political parties but about the future of the youths and the region.

“There would be no APC or PDP, there would only be the Yoruba Party of Nigeria which everybody is part of by birth. Also the decision of the master plan was taken by both APC and PDP at Abeokuta, it has no political colouration. It is a solution funding summit that we are putting together.”

“We want to build the culture of adding to the society, we want our youths to become productive and to generate ideas. We encourage our youths to come loaded with ideas because there be will official endorsement for their ideas at the Summit.”

Ilori added that the Summit would be tightly secured and that alcohol would not be allowed. He thereby urged interested youths to register for the Summit via the portal specifically launched for the summit.

Nairaland GeneralRegional Youth Summit Postponed by Akinlab15(op): 7:33am On Dec 12, 2017
First Western Nigeria Regional Youth Summit Postponed to Accommodate Yoruba Youths in Diaspora.

The state government of Osun has announced a short postponement of the highly anticipated first edition of Western Nigeria Regional Youth Summit scheduled for Osogbo this week due to demands of Yorubas in diaspora for effective participation.

Announcing the postponement at a press conference in Osogbo, the state's commissioner for Regional Integration, Bola Ilori expressed happiness at the huge acceptance and acclaim received by the idea of the summit.

"We must say we are pleasantly surprised at the huge interest the idea of the summit has generated across the country. We never estimatimated that it will receive this volume of enthusiasm. It's more surprising that we openly announced that we were not going to provide transport nor pay for accommodation yet 2097 conscious youths of western Nigeria have registered online on our portal before we closed it. This reality is quite different from the image people erroneously attached to our youths."

"We considered it a matter of pride and privilege to receive ‘appeal of interest’ to participate from youths in diaspora most especially those that live and work in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Also, a number of our youths currently resides in Northern and other Southern parts of the country. The appeal from these segments of our population has been so overwhelming. Most of them have planned to return home for the New year break." Ilori said.

Bola Ilori informed that "many of our elders and critical stakeholders are virtually unanimous that it will be a major historical error to shut this critical segment of our population out of this epoch-making event which is the first of its kind in the history of Nigeria".

"We have reached out to the office of the Vice President who is scheduled to declare the gathering open and some of the other dignitaries on this latest development and have expressed readiness to bend over backward to accommodate the request for a short shift in the date".

The Commissioner expressed the state's delight in observing that majority of the sons and daughters of Western region holds the development of the region as of highest priority.

Bola Ilori said the event will hold within the next two weeks "we hereby announce a short postponement of the Regional Youth Summit 2017, initially fixed for 12th &13th of December, 2017".

"In view of this consideration, we deeply regret all inconveniencies the postponement might have caused.

Please, be rest assured that a new date, within this festive season, will be communicated shortly." Ilori concluded.

The Commissioner also used the medium to express the government appreciation to the media and committee members "we want to thank you, gentlemen of the press, for your support since the first day we rolled out our plan to organize the first ever Non-Partisan Regional Youth Summit.

We appreciate the effort of our independent social media team for a job well done. We give kudos to all committees at various levels that had given so much time, energy and commitment to drive this initiative far within a very short period of time".
