Rotimi Akerodolu's bid to become the next Governor of Ondo State has suffered a massive blow with the loss of thousands of All Progressive members (APC) members to the ruling People's Democratic Party in the state. Over 6 000 members of the APC on Thursday defected to the PDP, reports Vanguard The defectors claimed that their decision to dump the APC was as a result of their love for the candidate of the PDP, Eyitayo Jegede The APC defectors were led by Adebowale Olowoeye popularly known as olumose and Bidemi Oladapo. Receiving the defectors Ondo state governor Olusegun Mimiko thanked them for their decision to join the PDP. Politics / PDP Offers Aisha Buhari Membership Card by akinze100(m): 8:20am On Oct 17, 2016 |
Abuja - Nigeria's First Lady Aisha Buhari has been offered an opportunity to join the People's Democratic Party (PDP) following harsh commentary made by her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, Naij reports. Following her explosive interview with the BBC's Hausa service, Aisha has been hit with a backlash, with many criticizing her over her comments while revoking their support. The PDP, however, has done the complete opposite, stating its support for the First Lady while offering her a PDP membership card. Alhaji Abdulahhi Jalo former deputy national publicity secretary of PDP likened president Muhammadu Buhari to US presidencial candidate Donald Trump while claiming that he "Scandalized women" Jalo stated that since Buhari claims to not know what party his wife belongs to, she should join the PDP as they are ready to give her a membership card. "As far as am concerned she has done the work of an opposition if she decides to join us, she will have a good reception" he said. |

Hello readers, It is a registered fact that Nairaland is the most popular and useful forum in the whole of Nigeria. Am neither here to beef #MrSeun or to undermine his forum but just to express my opinion about some things that this noble forum NEEDS (According to me).it goes thus.., 1.BETTER STORIES HITTING FRONT PAGE:This is one of the major ones, imagine almost 90% of stories hitting front page being all these *POLITICS* *CRIMES* *CELEBRITIES* news and most of them are either sad or irrelevant. 2.MORE SMILEYS/EMOJIS: It is in my opinion that NL needs more smileys for members to express themselves with... 3.OPTION TO SHARE STORIES ON OTHER POPULAR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS: I advise that there should be an option to share stories on other social media platforms like Facebook Twitter and Co. This will even aid in bringing in new members who might not be aware of the Forums existence before. 4.TOPICS OF THE MONTH AWARD: This may sound strange to some fellow Nairalanders. I am not saying these awards should be backed by monetary gifts or any other kinds of compensation but just to acknowledge a very good composition, these will have a long way to go in making the writer and even readers get more zealous to put better things down. These awards can be announced at the end of the month. Hereby not makin Nairalanders waiting the whole years for the Topics of the year in each section OTHERS INCLUDES more sporting stories hitting front page, sorting of comments by the ones with most likes (if possible [I know this is a threat to those with First to Comment Spirit] sir), other forms of punishment rather than banning for Crissakes Thanks for the time Adesina Akin Readers are free to add theirs cc lalasticlala |

Nairaland / General / 10 Countries You Probably Didnt' Know Exist (see) by akinze100(m): 4:32am On Oct 01, 2016 |
10 Countries You Probably Didn’t Know Exist (See) The world they say, is a global village but in reality it is so big a lot of people don’t even know some countries exist on this earth. The following countries do exist in the world 1. The Republic Of Lakotah This country is located in the middle of the United States and it is actually the size of Syria. It stretches over 1,600 kilometers and it is the homeland of the Lakota Sioux, an ancient tribe who lived there long before European colonial settlers. The rights to land was given to the Lakota Sioux in 1868 when they signed a treaty with the American government known as the treaty of Laramie. 2. Transnistria This country has its own president, currency, parliament and army and even won an independence war in 1992. But many still believe it is part of Moldova. It has a population of about 500,000. 3. Barotseland This country is located between Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Angola and home to a diversified group of tribes. According to history, it used to be an independent nation but was incorporated into Zambia in 1964 but they still claim independence because they believe it was incorporated into Zambia by false pretense. Although there was a treaty in 1964 that claimed Barotseland was an independent nation, it was treated as if it has not been received, this led to tensions and the Barotseland National Council retaliated by its independence from Zambia in March 2012. 4. Chinland Chinland is home to about 1.5 million people and its territories originally included parts of Myanmar, Bangladesh and India. They consist of six major ethnic groups who speak a total of 20 languages. They have their own leaders and national day known as the The Chin Revolution Day celebrated every 20th March of the year. 5. Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic This country is located in the Western Sahara in Africa and they declared independence in 1976. It is recognized by the UN as a state but the rest still consider it as part of Morrocco. Morrocco and Mauritania, all lay claim to the territory resulting in a bitter conflict. In 1979, Mauritania abandoned its claim but Morrocco still remains stubborn. 6. Abkhazia This country has a distinct ethnic population, a separate military, a government, a national bank and its own passport but it is still struggling to be considered as a country although they deem themselves so. It was its own country in the 11th century till was subsumed into Georgia and then later into the USSR. When the USSR collapsed in 1991, it demanded to return to its medieval borders and it won a war of independence against Georgia in 1993. 7. Nagorno-Karabakh Republic This country is surrounded by Azerbaijan and after the collapse of the USSR, the country became the central focus of a war between Azerbaijan and the region’s ethnic Armenian majority. A truce was signed in 1994 putting control of the region, to its inhabitants known as the Artsakh, into the hands of the ethnic Armenians. The country has its own government, military and even a legal constitution but unfortunately other countries do not recognize it’s legitimacy. 8. Balochistan Balochistan is a vast land that makes up 44% of Pakistan and it has been clouded with turmoil for well over half a century. Baloch nationalists believe their an independent country and even celebrating 11th August 1947 as their independence day. The British gave the country autonomy only for it to be overturned by Pakistan. Since then the Pakistan government has used military force to overcome independence uprisings in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. 9. South Ossetia It’s a country with a population of 50,000 people in Georgia and in 2006 a referendum was held that demonstrated its people’s desire to become an independent nation. They have their own language and are ethnically closer to the Ossetians in Russia than their fellow Georgians. Since then they have been effectively independent with their own President, Leonid Tibilov. 10. The Sovereign Military Order Of Malta This country has notable recognition from other countries around the world unlike some of the ones mentioned above. It has political relations with 105 countries and diplomatic relations with another six. It even has a permanent observer status at the United Nations but the bizarre thing is, this country has absolutely no physical territory nor does it claim any. What actually happened is that, Malta used to be occupied and owned by an order of Catholic Knights. When it was invaded by Napoleon in 1798, this order was forced to relocate to Italy where Catholic nations still continued to recognize them as a legitimate nation and this has continued till this day, despite the order now only having control over two buildings in Rome.

Nairaland / General / Tips On How To Kill Time by akinze100(m): 2:49pm On Sep 26, 2016 |
How to Kill Time Whether you're sitting in a waiting room, waiting in line, or simply have twenty minutes to kill before your next class or appointment, you need to take advantage of that fleeting mistress we call time. It's not hard to beat those boredom blues if you use a little creativity! Method One of Four: Killing Time by Entertaining Yourself Close your eyes and daydream. This is a relaxation technique that teenagers in high school math or history classes may have expertise at, but many adults have forgotten how to do. They're too tense, busy, and hurried to take time to clear their minds of life's overflowing clutter. Take a cue from your younger self and daydream away. Worrying does not count as daydreaming. If you find yourself sitting back and planning out how your life should be going, you're not doing it right. Some people just aren't daydreamers -- if you're one of them, don't force it. There's about a bajillion more tips you can try down this page. Go outside. Have a picnic. Play frisbee. Try flying a kite. Sometimes the simplest things are the most rewarding -- and the most surprisingly fun. Even a walk is healthy and entertaining! If you don't have a ton of time to kill, just take a walk around your neighborhood. Make an effort to be observant -- how many things can you spot that you never noticed before? Think about all your senses -- what can you hear, see, smell, touch, and taste? You might discover something interesting. Take the don't-stare-at-your- phone challenge. The next time you're in a group full of people who is killing time, take note of how many don't have their phones whipped out. You definitely won't need a calculator. Even the ones who know each other will have their phones in hand and head down, playing Candy Crush, Words with Friends, or just pretending to be texting someone they like better. We've become a society that doesn't engage. RESIST. YOU CAN DO IT! Or cave and take pictures of people staring at their phones. It's hard being the only one with your hands not clutching some lit-up piece of plastic, isn't it? That way you're still making a statement...sort of. Go bother someone. Anyone. Whenever someone asks you to do something, say "Would you like some fries with that?" Annoying to them, but fun for you. Annoying people is the best. Try it! Axe bombs , anyone? This one must be done with care. Staring at people until they're visibly uncomfortable, while fun, can result in confrontation. Holding your finger two inches from someone's face while saying, "Not touching you!" is entertaining, but risky when done with strangers. Pick your battles. This doesn't have to be done in person. You could always Rick roll people online or start trolling. If they have any sense at all, they'll thank you. Find new music. If you've been listening to the same playlist of 15 songs on your iPod nano since 2004, it's time to switch it up. Finding new music is easier than ever before. Sites like Noisetrade.com[1] offer free music downloads from budding artists, all at the click of a button. And being trendier than your friends is always rewarding. You're already on Spotify and Pandora, right? Good. Now just make efforts to go outside your zone of aural comfort. Gems are just waiting to be found. Ask your friends for ideas or look up similar artists to ones you already like on the web. Remember these two words: Rubik's Cube! Even if you're not the best at it, it's fun to practice! And it makes a great conversation starter. Sure, that conversation might be, "Oh, hey! Rubik's cube! I can do it way faster than you!" But it's still a conversation. Don't move the stickers and don't look up the answers. Then you'll just finish and have more time to kill. But if you're going to do it...might as well use wikiHow's Solve a Rubik's Cube article. Advertisement Method Two of Four: Killing Time by Gaining Knowledge Read a book. This should be your go-to when you have time to kill. Being well-read is a quality that will pay off multiple times daily. If you have an oncoming wait during your day, bring a magazine or paperback book along with you and catch up on this often ignored hobby. Yeah, yeah, your Kindle counts, too, but you stare at a screen so much already -- why not rep it old school and bring something that smells like the libraries of yore? Read someone else's blog. Okay, some people just don't have the book-reading mentality. Others didn't know they'd be stuck in this time-limbo and didn't think to bring a book with them. If either is your case, hop online (like you just did! Yay!) and read someone else's blog. Odds are you'll either laugh, cry, or get to mock them in your head extensively. Win, win, win.If you're unsure of where to find a good blog, you have no excuse. Huge publications like Time Magazine release a list of the year's best blogs annually. [2] There are even blog awards (they're called the Bloggies)![3] There's a whole world out there you're probably missing! Talk to the people around you. Huh, talk about a crazy idea, right? So archaic and mundane. Remember the last time you went to a Starbucks and actually talked to someone, apart from muttering "I need coffee and stat" to the hipster-looking barista? After wondering how she justified that employment choice to her hipster friends, you sat down and spent three hours sifting through your gmail. So don't do that. The people around you are much more interesting than those angry birds of yours. This might get awkward, especially if you don't do it right. And unless you're British, a quick, "Wow, sure is hot out," might just result in a few askance looks. However, awkward never killed anyone. If you're lucky enough to find someone not staring at their phone, give 'er a try. Especially if they're cute! Study! Imagine that. You didn't come to this webpage for so- obvious-they're-not-obvious ideas, did you? But we don't mean studying as whipping out that textbook from 2005 you never actually opened in class but the bookstore wouldn't take back anyway, we mean something much more interesting -- the Internet. Sites like Memrise, Academic Earth, Coursera and Khan Academy make studying and learning awesome. Pick a topic, there's something there to learn. With videos and graphics, even the most ADD minds will be contented. Search the internet for tutorials or watch funny videos online. You're on wikiHow already, aren't you? Might as well find out how to fake having a boyfriend or how to combine fruit and mayonnaise in a good way . Think of all the things you don't know how to do! And then do them. YouTube is good too, but you might get sidetracked with Miley Cyrus videos and that's just risky. Stick to VideoJug or HowCast to avoid the temptation. |
