This is basically a repeat of 2019 afcon...they were both held in North Africa, Nigeria looked like they were gonna win both, Senegal reached both finals, Nigeria got knocked out by a north African team, and Nigeria faced a north African team for bronze

Morocco would defeat Senegal and lift the title

So afcon has become a host to win competition...I wonder how Tanzania,Uganda and Kenya would share the title between themselves at this point 🤔
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Akkin: 6:32am On Jan 15
I doubt this team can even win bronze and Nigeria should remember that there is only one more AFCON left before it becomes a 4 year spectacle....which means that we have had the chance to become 5 times champion but near success syndrome has held us back twice

Once AFCON becomes 4 years gap... you'll only have 2 times in 10 years to win the title making it tougher and harder and I fear that if the players of Nigeria keep having this stage freight when big games come......our next afcon win would be in a long long loñg time

And we would all look back on this generation as promising as they looked and ask ourselves: "what did you ever achieve? Why are you like a snake who passed on top of a rock"

This is the time where that comeback spirit I was talking of comes in... Nigeria is on the Backfoot and must not concede first but if they do then they have to channel their inner super falcons and win this match ffs

This afcon is ours for the taking...Senegal, Egypt and Morocco are tiers beneath this super eagles...

Egypt needed a last minute goal to beat Zimbabwe, was pressed to the brim by SA and drew with Angola and benin and now are in the semis

Morocco struggled against the defense of Comoros, drew with a Mali that scored only one open play goal and almost got upsetted by Tanzania

Senegal drew against congo who drew against Algeria making them the same tier imo and SE just bullied them today

The super eagles would defeat Morocco by two goals and face Senegal in the finals where we would clinch our fourth title while the Arabs can battle it out for the 3rd place so they go home with something at least
Lord let it happen 🙏🙏🙏

watch how Tanzania played this people, omo anyone wey no Morocco should tell them to close up those reckless defense dey are opening up and down oo….them this one go too collect beating walai
I swear..... even against Cameroon I saw chances that had it been lookman or iwobi that had such an opportunity...they would punish Morocco defense and give osi or Adams who would definitely put it in the net

This people would collect wotowoto if they play like Algeria or Tunisia
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Akkin: 5:15pm On Jan 13
We have gone 1up throughout this tournament and have not lost or drawn any game...and osimehn unbeaten streak is still alive with us winning every game he scored in

I believe that shouldnt change against Morocco so I believe we'll win

Osimehn to score

NIGERIA 1 - MOROCCO 0 FT

Exactly!!!

I still rate JPES team better than this one

Until they enter that final, let us even dead the conversation
Nahhh this afcon is tougher...Nigeria's path to the final is tougher than the last by miles and still they overcame the challenges unscathed

I watched the play of the 23 afcon and it was not as interesting or breathtaking as this set at all...the 2 man forward of osimehn and akor has really improved our attack and goal potency and if this squad met the 2023 afcon super eagles ... they would thrash them
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Akkin: 2:50pm On Jan 11
I think Chelle should win best coach but I dunno if there's an award for that.....iwobi or lookman should win best player of the tournament... brahim is a fraud with zero assists and If Nigeria humiliates Morocco gk like they did to Tunisia and Algeria then nwabali should win best goalkeeper cause he' would be the only one to keep cleansheets in the KO
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Akkin: 11:01am On Jan 11
Just remembered that we beat civ at home in the last afcon even though the atmosphere was electric and hostile so we are definitely not new to making hosts cry but I wonder if the Moroccan crowd would be crazier

Either way... Nigeria vs Morocco FT 1-0

Nigeria is knocking out north African teams like they are collecting infinity stones

We beat Libya 3-0 while sleeping at the airport in the qualification if you remember all the fiasco they put up

We beat Tunisia.... putting three past them after not conceding through out their world cup qualifiers

And now Algeria... taking revenge for knocking us out in 2019

Next on our hitlist is Morocco......

My advice for them is to PRAY!!

The odds favored Senegal and Morocco to go through and they did just that....I don't expect it to be different for civ or Nigeria so our semi finals are

Civ vs Senegal (a repeat of their match in 2023 ro16 irc and I see civ beating Senegal again)

Nigeria vs Morocco (I do not know who will win this sort of matchup...too many variables to think of especially bad officiating which is disgraceful)

Cote D'Ivoire might just win the whole thing at this point ...I don't want Morocco to win it because of the terrible bias officiating so far at the tourney

I beg to differ. Ndidi and Lookman to score. Osimhen will come out with an assist.
It's because i just watched all Algeria highlights at this afcon and i noticed how weak they are against aerial attacks from corners and headers which osimehn is very good at,..

Hell, against Burkina Faso, one of burkinas header hit the crossbar and would have drawn the game had it entered

Also, Burkina, equitorial guinea and Sudan all had terrible defenses that made silly mistakes throughout this tournament and the SE eagles defense has been way better so I dont really see Nigeria conceding...but Algeria's strength would be their long range strikes which are scarily accurate and that would be a problem for nwabali cause he rarely dives to catch such

This is bulshit and very unprofessional from Lookman, let him try it against Algeria who can equalise the yeye two goals he was talking about. So it’s now a crime to be hungry for more goals because someone has two. Shebi it’s because it was Mozambique. Osihmen you guys are bashing is the one that’s more mature to know that after what happened against Tunisia it’s the wisest thing to pump in as more goals as possible. This gentle nature of Lookman that’s deceiving all of you, I will be here to mock all those that will complain again by the time the same Lookman starts playing like the way he was doing during the wcq and some were already saying he should be benched. You folks forget the past easily. Make una continue
Osimehn shouldn't have reacted like that because the only reason why you would lose a 3 up advantage is poor defence...he should've been clamoring for mass defense and high possession of the ball not more goals especially when few minutes remained

That's what they need to be doing against Algeria....score early, score at least 2 or three, mass defend and possess the game till the last minute

You have never been since the start of the tournament... You don't see us in the semis since the or what changes
Any time you expect the super eagles to perform...they usually fumble and when you expect them to disappoint, they become superb

So I am not confident in them so that I will be impressed when they prove me wrong.

Reverse psychology 😏

We have lost 4 out of the last 5 games against Algeria with our last win being in 2016...I'm not so confident in Nigeria anymore

You have to love AFCON🤯🤯!!!

The eight teams in the quarter-finals of the 2023 afcon were:
Nigeria
Angola
DR Congo
Guinea
Mali
Ivory Coast
Cape Verde
South Africa

So far only Nigeria,Mali and probably ivory coast is in the quarterfinals of the immediate 2025 AFCON!!!

2025 AFCON quarterfinalists:

Nigeria
Algeria
Egypt
Senegal
Mali
Morocco
Cameroon
Ivory coast/Burkina Faso

Looks tougher for every team than the last afcon imo
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Akkin: 7:14pm On Jan 06
Honestly I prefer drc but it's not like Algeria would be tougher and I say this because it seems to me that the SE have shed their skin of low amounts of goals so far in this afcon...

During the wcq we were struggling to get goals going with only Benin and Gabon( after extra time ) being the only teams we beat convincingly and even with that we scored drc in 4 minutes

I believe if we face the drc in qf we would win that match with a 3 goal difference scoreline if we take our chances and so far we have done that impressively

SE ALL THE WAY TO THE FINALS🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

Osimhen should also work on his offside traps... He has lost 3 goals to offside in this competition... By now he's supposed to be leading scorer.... And almost catching up with Yekini's record
I agree bro and no one seems to mention this...in the last afcon, osimehn was caught offside 9 times in 9 games and now he has lost 3 goals to offside.

His spatial awareness seems to be poor because the first goal we scored against Mozambique that got cancelled in the first minute would have been a clear goal had osimehn not rush too forward... people will say his teammates are holding the ball to long but it's usually the opponent defenders who slow themselves down letting osimehn run past them cause they know how poor his spatial awareness is

I really hope he fixes this cause as a pro footballer you shouldn't be making this baby mistakes over and over again...it's really dumb honestly

Look at the chance Simon missed at the dime minute, you would see how he made sure to stay onside by calming himself and timing his run but he unfortunately missed it.... osimehn would have been 5 meters ahead of the defender had he been in the same position

Tessyy1701:
Ask yourself why they are going ahead everytime... And those teams chasing them, they prefer to be chasing because of their excellent mentality?

Sincere answer
Nigeria creates chances especially set pieces and we have osimehn who is a specialist in scoring such even though he would miss 4 to score 2

But they need to realize that defence is everyone matter and they have to be rugged about it especially when leading...hold possession in the dying minutes,do not play long balls in the dying minutes, hold your opponent to their half in the dying minutes that's how to prevent a team from attempting a successful comeback against you

Nigeria has gone ahead in a lot of matches but you also have to remember they went ahead against civ in the finals and we all know how that ended

They might find themselves in such a situation later today but let's see how they cope
