Thanks for the info. I just checked my Google Pay portal and saw my Opay Verve card which I added a long time ago is no longer greyed out and I was able to select it as my payment card. I'm hoping I won't receive anything higher than the ₦1,700 I ought to pay for the YT Premium Family Plan. Providus bank has always billed me extra ever since I started using their Platinum card.
Has anyone tried Naira card on aliexpress?

So the sales went and no action as the rates were not worthwhile. Some people are happy though. Two nights ago I was ruminating about whether a 40 dollar discount was worth it for the Hifiman Ananda headphone I wanted to buy. I decided not because I would still have needed 420k at the current rate.

Somebody then opened a thread asking people to buy dollars because dollar will still get to 1800 and that the naira is overvalued.
I've seen the damage caused by the shrinking value of the naira with nigerian children going to bed hungry so
I cautioned him about his economic sabotage but he was bent on continuing his nefarious activities so I went to the efcc website and reported the matter pointing to the thread.

It was already 2.30 am so I went to sleep with the intention to call two people at the ogun state governors office when I wake up.
Sadly the thread and all references to it has been deleted by the morning as it was blatantly created to cause economic problems.
I was disappointed because I really wanted to spoil that obedient fools life and wanted the government to use the fool as a scapegoat.

From now on, I'm opening fire on these fools anytime they cross the line. Saboteurs are everywhere but hopefully the naira improves in spite of their hindrances before the next sales.
Hope you know that this is not an argumentative or a political page.

Business / Re: Shareholders Funds Wiped Out As MTN Nigeria Incurs N740bn FOREX Losses by akseph1: 3:12pm On Mar 01
Saw this somewhere and decide to share it.
MTN Nigeria recently released its 2023 FY results, reporting its first-ever loss of N177.8 billion, which resulted in a wipe-out of shareholders’ funds.

The company attributed the losses to forex losses, stating that it had cost the company a whopping N740 billion in 2023.

MTN also said that its financial statements were prepared for December 2023 using N907/$1 as the exchange rate. The current exchange rate is around N1600/$1.

Should this be a major concern for MTN Nigeria?

A negative shareholders’ fund is a major event in the financial lifecycle of a company and should be taken seriously. It means that the company’s shareholders no longer have any equity on paper and could need a substantial injection of equity to remain in effective control.

For shareholders of MTN, a wipeout of its shareholder’s funds does not mean investors in the company no longer have shares in it. It also does not mean that the company has gone insolvent, especially in the case of MTN. At worst, the impact will be that MTN might not be able to pay dividends due to the losses.

However, MTN’s ability to post robust operating profits should mean the company can return to positive shareholder funds as quickly as this year.
It could also result in a drop in its share price (as has been the case this year) but this are all expected and could even be a buying opportunity.

So what then?

Typically, negative shareholders’ funds require that the company recapitalize, or inject profits into the business organically by posting profits in its next financial year. This situation can be made worse if the company is tight on cash and then needs to resort to its creditors for a lifeline.

This is where MTN is quite different. Despite the massive losses reported, the company still has a robust free cash flow of N631 billion. The company also reported that it has a cash balance of N345 billion per its balance sheet. MTN’s capital structure has mostly relied on high gearing to finance its business, which is no surprise that its combined interest-bearing loans are around N1.1 trillion.

MTN also generated a very high return on assets (14%) and a return on average equity of 119.5% in 2022, respectively. It is therefore not surprising that it relies heavily on debt to finance its operations. MTN is also solid in terms of its ability to rely on profits to return shareholder funds to positive.

For example, last year MTN generated a profit after tax of N358 billion, which is more than 8x its negative shareholder funds of N40.4 billion. If you adjust for the one-time forex losses incurred in 2023, MTN could have reported a profit before tax of over N400 billion. In fact, despite the losses incurred, it generated an EBITDA of N1.2 trillion, thus showing it has enough cash flow to keep creditors happy.

Based on this, it is unlikely that MTN will be significantly affected by the wipe-out of its shareholders’ funds. However, it could consider raising capital to ensure its balance sheet is stronger and able to withstand any further headwinds. The exchange rate is currently N1600/$1 compared to the N907 used by MTN in 2023, which suggests its Q1 results could be further affected.

MTN relies heavily on foreign currency to purchase assets needed for its business. Thus, to keep posting strong margins, it will need to either increase its tariffs, reduce costs, or do both. However, these are the normal ordinary courses of business and can be addressed expeditiously.

The two referees can be from other banks and do not have to be GTB account holders. They must have a current account with their banks but salary account holders will be rejected . Just look for friends and associates with current accounts regardless of the bank.
As per the current problem of not being able to withdraw your money,if you have a savings account with them then ask them to transfer the money to your savings account. If they refuse then ask to see the manager. If he refuses then make a formal written complaint against the individuals by name to GTB head office and cbn citing malicious victimization. Just make sure you go with your i.d card and bvn.
Nigerians are not nice people and mostly lack empathy. You do need to make things hot for them otherwise they will not do the right thing thing.
Thanks

Why not open a GTB prepaid dollar account. All you need is your bvn,, i.d card and passport photograph.
My brother, I had 2 referees before not knowing that they will be rejected. I opened a current account along side domiciliary account. Whenever people send money into my saving account, I don't know how it enter current account. I wanted to withdraw and I was told it is not possible until I get two referees. Na there I dey now. I have people from other bank who can serve as referees but not GTB has been the problem. That is why it is like I am looking for referees. I want to order for my tablet screen with the dollar account too.

Guys, something weird happened to me. Earlier in October, I funded my domiciliary account with $50 to make some purchases on AliExpress. I bought about 4 items totalling $39 which I've all taken delivery of. I emptied the account by converting the remaining dollars to naira using my banking app.

Just 3 days ago, I was surprised to check my domiciliary app to see the $39 refunded. I requested for my bank statement and there was no trace of any purchase on AE. It just showed as if the money was not debited at all. I tried converting $10 to naira and to my surprise the transaction went smoothly. Account wey na $0.03 before oo. I tried converting the rest and it went thru but when I tried transferring out from the naira current account it showed "Transaction unsuccessful. Security violation".

Yesterday I mustered courage and walked into the bank to complain and they checked my account, both the current and the domiciliary which was the source of the funds, and they said there was nothing wrong. The lady chatted with someone who I think was from their HQ and after series of checks for like 10mins, they concluded my account must have been flagged because of an email change I did 3 months back when making the $50 deposit into the domiciliary account (the current and the dorm are all linked with same ID). They asked if I didn't use the account since then and I said no. She told me she'd pull the reference for the email change and send to HQ so I fit waka. I was told to go and try making transfer after an hour.

Ladies and Gentlemen, after an hour, I tried and I was able to transfer all the money out successfully. So basically I made a purchase of $39 from AE for free.
Can you serve as a refreee for me for my domiciliary account? Let me know if you charge for doing so. Here is my WhatsApp zero 8 zero three 5 457487. Thanks0
