President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, hosted the Special Envoy of the President of Equatorial Guinea, [color=#000000]Nguema Mbasogo[/color], at the State House, Abuja.

This was contained in a statement issued by [color=#000000]Mr Femi Adesina[/color], the President’s spokesman, in Abuja.

The statement said the Special Envoy and Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Gabriel Lima, had brought a message from his president on the forthcoming meeting of Heads of State of gas-exporting nations, which Equatorial Guinea would be hosting.

Receiving the envoy, Buhari declared that if Nigeria had followed her own programme for exploiting its gas reserves, the country would have been earning more money from the product than from petroleum now.

He said: “We share a lot of things in common with Equatorial Guinea. These include geographical neighbourliness and neighbourliness in terms of resources.

“Nigeria is more of a gas producing, rather than oil producing country. That fact had long been established.

“If we had followed our own plans, laid out in the 1970s, for the gas sector, we should have had 12 trains by early 1980s, instead of being on just six trains now,” the president said.

The special envoy thanked Nigeria for the support given to Equatorial Guinea to host the first summit of gas exporting countries in the world, taking place on African soil.

Patriotism In Action: Hon. Ned Nwoko Funds Repair of Failed South East-Abuja Link Road

Former member of Federal House of Representative, Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko has displayed uncommon act of patriotism as he undertakes to deploy his personal funds (100 MILLION NAIRA) to rehabilitate failed portions of the road linking South East and Abuja through Onicha Ugbo/Idumuje Ugboko and Ewohinmi in Edo State.

Ned Nwoko said the agony faced by travellers from the eastern Nigeria to the northern part of the country, moved him to repair the road to alleviate the sufferings of those plying the road.

The road has become a vital short cut for travellers from the South East to the North, including Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Abuja, but failed after heavy rain falls in recent months.

The single lane road originally constructed by Niger Delta Development Company (NNDC) had become a major transit for travellers from South East and the North thus increasing the economic activities for the towns along its path namely, Onicha Ugbo- Idumuje ugboko- Ewohinmi.

The failed sections of the road exposed commuters to travel delays and other untold hardships, including attacks by hoodlums operating on the Onicha-Ugbo- Idumuje Ugboko axis.

Prince Ned Nwoko said: “I am funding the repairs of the road in my private capacity, to lessen the impact of the suffering of travellers caused by the terrible condition of the road” “This is just a palliative effort, but I will continue even in my personal capacity, to push the Federal Government to urgently undertake a total reconstruction of the road”, he pledged.

The rehabilitation work is expected to be completed in six weeks.

Many commuters have been stranded on other failed portions of other roads linking Abuja and the Southern part of the country, including the failed portion of Oke-Oka axis of Akangba-Owo road in Ondo State.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Southwest zone, has said Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State will be welcomed into the party but without special privileges, if he decamps from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Ayo Fadaka.

He, however, said the alleged defection of Akeredolu remained a rumour and currently a non-issue within the PDP.

He noted that the rumour was predicated on the recurring challenges confronting the Ondo state governor over the crisis in his party.

Fadaka said “Our attention has been drawn to rumoured defection plans by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State to PDP. This rumour is predicated on the recurring challenges the Governor continues to encounter in his Party, APC.

“It will be recalled that this development is responsible for his hijack of AA as a platform which some of his candidates who were denied ticket in APC used to contest the last election.”

“We, however, wish to state most unequivocally that the PDP in Ondo State remains cohesive, solid and vibrant through dint of hard work and commitment of leaders and members of the Party and as such is not primed to be taken over by anyone, irrespective of his status.

“We also declare that anyone who wishes to join our Party will also be welcome into our ranks provided such a person or group recognises the fact that no special privileges will be accorded him/them upon joining.

“Thus should Governor Rotimi Akeredolu desire to join our Party today, he will be welcome as a fresh member with no special privileges of any kind.”

However, Fadaka said that PDP had put its house in order ahead next year gubernatorial election.

His words, “Prominent members are already getting prepared to take a shot at becoming the Party’s flag bearer, the Party shall at the fullness of time organize a primary election to pick whoever will become our candidate in that election.

“It is important to again underscore the fact the Party will maintain the tradition of picking its candidate through a free and fair primary election that will be rancour-free.

“In conclusion, the hoopla surrounding Akeredolu’s desire to join our Party remains a rumour and currently not an issue within our Party.

“We, therefore, enjoin our members in Ondo State to disregard the rumour and continue to promote and extend the frontiers of the Party in their various communities.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has blocked 16 accounts traced to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Galaxy Transportation and Construction Services Limited, Babagana Dalori, who has been accused of defrauding 27,400 Nigerians of about N7 billion.Dalori is being detained by the EFCC for interrogation by the agency’s operatives.

The suspect has allegedly agreed to part with some of his properties.But Dalori, who insisted that he is not a fraudulent businessman, blamed his company’s fortunes on economic recession.According to a top source, the EFCC decided to investigate Dalori and his company, following the receipt of a petition by 63 Nigerians who complained of being defrauded by the suspects.

The source said: “The 63 petitioners alleged that they invested in a company named Galaxy Transportation & Construction Services Ltd for a period of one year with fixed percentage of return on investment.

It was further alleged that at the end of the investment period, the company neither paid the interest nor the capital.“On receipt of the petition, the following actions were carried out: all the 16 accounts linked to the suspects were traced and blocked; and 22 documents of various properties were recovered.

“Investigation into this case is still at preliminary stage as the team is intensifying efforts to trace all assets that belong to the 1st suspect (Galaxy Transportation and Construction Services Limited) and the 2nd suspect (Dalori).“So far, twenty two (22) properties have been traced to the suspects including Six (6) filing stations and five quarries across different states.

“Also, responses from banks and Corporate Affairs COmmission (CAC) are being awaited. Preliminary investigation has so far revealed the possibility of the suspects to have diverted the funds of various investors to other business rather than the businesses they invested in.“At the end of the investigation, we may have a case of criminal breach of trust and obtaining money under false pretence.

”Furthermore, the suspect express willingness to part with his properties to settle settlement with the petitioners.”A document gave insight into the business activities of the suspects.It said: ”Due to the trust reposed in him, investors keep on investing in his Galaxy scheme.

He used flyers, advertisements in the television and radio stations in order to convince the investors.“He even went to the extent of organising Nollywood to act a movie for him over the scheme.

He specifically organised some actors and actresses in Kannywood to act in a movie called “Zero Hour” to show the need for people to invest in Galaxy.“Unfortunately, his gimmicks paid off as different people took their hard earned savings, inheritance, pensions and other source of income and invested in Galaxy.

“Now, the scheme has crashed and investors can no longer get their money.“Though the agreement signed by the investors with Galaxy was specific- transportation and construction services. But he has now diversified into other areas in contrast to the agreement.“At the moment, he has used the investors’ money to incorporate different entities without getting their consent.

He now has Galaxy Global Energy Concept Ltd, Galaxy Miners Concept Ltd, Galaxy Global Farms, Galaxy Computers, Galaxy Block Making Factory, Galaxy Hospital and Galaxy Hotel.”Contrary to the claim of Galaxy spokesman that the matter was civil and not criminal, the business of deposits taking under Nigerian legislation can only be undertaken by a licensed deposit- taking financial institutions as enshrined in Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA), CBN Act and the NDICBut a statement by the spokesperson of the company, Mr. Cletus Onoja, said the arrest of Dalori was not based on fraud.

Onoja said Dalori was merely taken for investigation by the EFCC following a petition by the company’s clients.He said what was at stake was that the company could no longer meet its obligations to its clients within the time expected of it for reasons beyond its control.“As such, some investors who were not satisfied with our explanation and efforts currently put at recovering the loss petitioned the EFCC even though the matter was civil and not criminal.

“As an obedient citizen of the country, the MD/CEO turned in and gave himself to the Commission’s interrogations,’’ he added.”It is on record that even when the country was in recession in 2016 and 2017, our company did not fail to meet its obligations to pay its clients and business partners.

He said the company runs a legitimate transportation and construction services business in over five states in the country with its headquarters in Abuja for the last nine years..

”The company’s management is working round the clock to overcome the challenges; it is sad that it has already caused serious worries in the minds of our clients and affected our cordial relationship.’’

Bayelsa House of Assembly on Wednesday approved monthly pensions to speakers, deputy speakers and other members of assembly.

The bill sponsored by the leader of the House, Peter Akpe, which was passed on the floor of the House, approved N500,000 post service monthly pension to the speakers of the assembly.The deputy speakers are to earn monthly pension of N200, 000 while other rest 24-member capacity assembly will earn N100,000 each.

The bill specifically provided that former lawmakers including persons of Bayelsa origin, who served in the old Rivers State, would enjoy life pensions for their services in the state as applicable to former presidents, vice-presidents, governors and deputy governors across the country.

To qualify for the speakership pension of N500, 000 monthly, the lawmaker the person must have served for two years and above.Most stakeholders in Bayelsa State took to different social media platforms to criticise the bill, deriding the lawmakers for being selfish and insensitive.

A resident, Fidel Boboye, described the move as greed in the highest places and wondered why such political office holders with the wealth and money they had amassed still awarded life pensions to themselves.

Another resident Preye Alegbe, said: “Is this not too much for these persons even as there are many graduates out there without good jobs? Why can’t the legislature channel these legislations to areas where the younger generations can benefit more”.
