A young apprentice, Okwudili Okoro, has given insight into why he murdered his brother and master, Azubuike Okoro and his wife, Jacinta Okoro, in a fit of rage when the couple were having their meal.

On Saturday, Okwudili and his accomplice now at large, had barged into the home of his master, Azubuike, who also doubled as his blood brother, pulled two cutlasses hidden underneath their wears and hacked man and wife to death.

Okwudili, who is in the police net, said he elected to kill his brother and wife because the man refused to settle him after completing the presumably agreed three years apprenticeship. It was learnt that he and his accomplice, Kenneth, fled the scene when their crime attracted the attention of residents, who raised the alarm but following a report of the incident by one Joseph Nwagu at the Sango Police Division in Ogun State, Okwudili was arrested.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this in a statement, said the suspect claimed he killed his master for not settling him after serving for three years. Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), added that the suspect was arrested when one Joseph Nwagu reported the crime to the police in Sango.

According to the spokesman, Okwudili and Kenneth left their base in Sapon, Abeokuta, to commit the heinous crime at Ijako, three local government areas apart. “Upon the report, the DPO Sango Division, SP Nasirudeen Oyedele, led detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested but his accomplice escaped.

“On interrogation, the Ebonyi State-born suspect claimed to have served his deceased elder brother for three years, and when it was time for him to be settled, his brother kept on posting him from time to time.

“He stated that when he realized that his brother was not ready to settle him, he contracted one Kenneth who is now on the run and they both bought two cutlasses, sharpened it to the edges and headed to his deceased elder brother’s house in Ijako.

“On getting there, they met the deceased eating with his wife and before he would utter a word, they descended heavily on them with the sharp cutlasses and matcheted them to death. The two bodies have been taken to the general hospital Otta mortuary for post-mortem examination.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation,” Oyeyemi stated

According to him, the fleeing accomplice of the suspect would be apprehended and brought to book within the shortest possible time.

Iliyasu also appealed to residents of the state not to take any threat to their lives lightly by reporting such to the police no matter who is involved.

Noble Youths Mass Support Association (NYMSA), an NGO, has congratulated the governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike on his re-election.

Mr Godwin Onmonya, the National Coordinator of the group, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gwagwalada on Thursday, described Wike’s re-election as a victory for democracy.

Wike won the election with 886,264 votes, while Mr Biokpomabo Awara of the African Alliance Congress (AAC), who came second, scored 173,859 votes.

“I commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for doing the right thing in ensuring that that democracy prevailed.

“It is my conviction that his victory will pave way for a true democracy and a prosperous Nigeria that will deliver on the people’s mandate.

“On behalf of NYMSA, I congratulate Nyesom Wike on his well-deserved victory in the just-concluded Rivers Governorship Election,” he said.

Onmonya further described the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state as fair and expression of the sovereign will of the Nigerian people.

However, he called on Wike to support and encourage the less privileged in the country, through youth empowerment, sports and social development programmes.

Just a few days ago, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun was allegedly spotted near a Redmi phone with a Snapdragon 855 chipset and a pop-up selfie camera. Now, a leak suggests that this phone will be called the Redmi Pro 2 and it will integrate a triple camera setup and a 48-megapixel sensor as well. The latest image leak shows the Redmi Pro 2 from the front and back, and tips specification details as well. There's no word on when this new phone will launch under the new sub-brand Redmi.

A tipster on Weibo has leaked a poster on Weibo of an upcoming phone called the Redmi Pro 2. The poster claims that the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor, feature a pop-up selfie camera, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and a 48-megapixel sensor as well. Looking at the specifications and the image alongside, it can be presumed that this is the same phone that was spotted besides Jun a few days ago.

The image suggests that the Redmi Pro 2 will sport a gradient back panel, a triple rear camera setup aligned vertically, a pop-up selfie camera, and a no-notch display up front. The volume and power buttons are seen to be housed on the right edge of the phone.

This is possibly the first good look at the Snapdragon 855 Redmi flagship, as the photo with Lei Jun using the phone leaked last week, was quite blurry. It had tipped however that there will be no display notch, which fits in with the pop-up selfie camera speculation of the new rumour, and that it would bear a Red colour and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The company has already confirmed that a Snapdragon 855 SoC Redmi phone is in the works, and now the latest leak gives us a fair idea of what it may look like. It is tipped to be called Redmi Pro 2, but we recommend you take all leaks with a grain of salt. As mentioned, there's no launch timeline announcement as of yet.
