GloryDuke: When next his Excellency Bashorun Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose (JP) rushes out to defend Dasuki's $2 billion and Dokpesi's N2 billion share of it, the mathematicians among us should render a public service by breaking down the heist into a language that the Governor can understand. You have to translate the figures involved into his instruments of governance.
In other words, how many kilos of ponmo, shawa fish, atarodo, palm oil, ajinomoto, la casera, zobo, salt, and rice can $2 billion supply to the bellies of Ekiti?
If you break it down for His Excellency like that, he will scream:"Ori iya mi o"! You should have, at least, acknowledged Prof. Pius Adesanmi, the author of this content! |

Politics › Borno Recovers, Buries 81 B’haram Victims by ALEBS(op): 6:57am On Nov 27, 2015 |
The Bama Local Government Area of Borno State has retrieved and buried the corpses of 81 victims of the Boko Haram killings, which were dumped by the insurgents in the Yadzaram River after the terrorists captured Bama town on September 1, 2014.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday, the Chairman of Bama LGA, Alhaji Ali Gujja, said the remains, which were mainly skeletons, were buried on Thursday by the council officials.
Gujja added that the skeletons were exhumed along the river beds by volunteers and some members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
Addressing newsmen in Bama during the burial, Gujja explained that the corpses could not be retrieved from the flowing river immediately after the killings because of insecurity in Bama.
He said the corpses were floating on the river for so long while some laid on the river beds for over a year.
The LG chairman stated that some volunteers and members of CJTF exhumed the remains of the 81 victims.
He lamented that the insurgents dumped several bodies of residents in two cement wells in three wards of Bama.
Gujja said the affected wells had been sealed up while their environs had been fumigated to prevent further outbreak of air and water-borne diseases in the town.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency has unfolded plans to take relief materials to newly liberated towns of the state.
The North-East Zonal Coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar, said this on Wednesday during the distribution of relief materials to internally displaced persons in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Kanar added, “We are moving to Bama, Gwoza, Askira-Uba, Marte and Baga local government areas to distribute relief materials to liberated people in the areas.”
The team from NEMA, who were cheered on arrival at Dikwa by thousands of elated residents that lined the streets to welcome them, erected camps in the town.
Kanar, while addressing the internally displaced persons, promised that as soon as final clearance was received from the military, rehabilitation of structures destroyed by the insurgents would be carried out to enable the displaced persons to return to their homes.
He said this was the second time the agency would be distributing relief items to people of Dikwa in recent time.
On the entourage of NEMA to Dikwa were other stakeholders in emergency management, including UNICEF and local government health workers, who erected tents, immunised children, and administered drugs to those requiring medical attention. http://punchng.com/borno-recovers-buries-81-bharam-victims/ |
Science/Technology › Light-based Li-fi Internet Boasts Speeds 100 Times Faster Than Wi-fi by ALEBS(op): 4:09pm On Nov 26, 2015 |
When the first version of the Wi-Fi protocol was released in 1997, it boasted wireless speeds of up to 2 megabits per second. Now, there’s Li-Fi, a potential successor to Wi-Fi that’s capable of transmitting data at 1 gigabit per second, about 100 times faster than today’s average home wireless connection and 500 times faster than that first incarnation of Wi-Fi.
Li-Fi uses LED bulbs switching on and off billions of times per second to transmit strings of data. Think of the way a Morse code operator would tap out a message, then speed up the process by several orders of magnitude.
Though the communication takes place in the visible spectrum, meaning humans can see the light that’s being emitted, the flickering happens far too fast for our eyes to notice it. In other words, to humans, a Li-Fi light bulb appears like any other, but actually transmits lightning-fast Internet at the same time.
Velmenni, an Estonian tech company that has installed Li-Fi in its offices, says that the technology has achieved speeds of up to 224 gigabits per second in the lab and 1 gigabit per second in real life, where transmissions must contend with other factors such as movement and interference from other light sources. An office or industrial park could be outfitted with smart LED bulbs that could send data and provide illumination simultaneously, Velmenni CEO Deepak Solanki told IBTimes.
There’s a catch, though: Because light can’t pass through walls or other obstacles, a Li-Fi access point can cover only a single room. That means multiple smart LEDs will be needed to cover an apartment or a house with speedy wireless coverage. But on the other hand, wireless interference will be greatly reduced.
If you live in an apartment building, your devices can probably pick up Wi-Fi networks belonging to your neighbors. Those networks, all sharing the same frequencies, tend to interfere with one another, slowing down speeds for everyone. (That’s why the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band tends to be faster: it can only be used by newer devices, so it’s relatively uncrowded.) But a network that uses visible light is neatly contained by the walls, floors, and ceilings of the rooms it covers – no bleeding into adjacent areas.
Li-Fi might also be more secure than Wi-Fi. Because the wireless signal doesn’t spill outside rooms or buildings, it’s much harder for an intruder to set up nearby and gain access to the network. The Telegraph reports that intelligence agencies are interested in the potential security of Li-Fi, and that airlines are considering the technology for providing Internet access during flights.
The technology is still in its infancy today, but within the next few years, flickering LEDs could let us transfer gigabytes in the blink of an eye. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/light-based-li-fi-internet-boasts-speeds-100-times-faster-than-wi-fi/ar-BBnrQ3z?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=wispr

maupe: The OP made some valid points and there could be a case of over exaggerated facts, but one thing still remains clear. The fact that there was an attack on that division, some soldiers were killed in the assault, and an unknown number of corpses were buried by the military in secret. Even the military, has come out to testify on that. In the days ahead, we will know more about this bizarre story. You really think soldiers who die in battle are buried secretly? It doesn't happen like that in the military. |

Ever since Premium Times reported the story of some 105 soldiers missing following a Boko Haram attack on the military last week, I have watched in amazement how a set of people - who from their utterances are obviously not concerned about the soldiers - have recklessly tried to make a political capital out of the story. Below are some of facts that should make us believe if 105 were truly killed or not.
1. The news was first reported by reported by Premium Times, claiming to have spoken with sources in the military. The following day, the same Premium Times reported that the missing soldiers had returned, with the Commanding Officers and other soldiers emerging form the bush in a van hours after the encounter: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/193518-missing-soldiers-return-rejoin-unit-army.html Somehow, some people decided to believe the first report and completely disregard the second, all coming from the same source.
2. In the past, Boko Haram would release propaganda videos to show equipment they captured from the military after attacks. Isn't it absurd and funny that Boko Haram would kill at least 105 soldiers and they wouldn't make noise about it? Up till now, not even an audio tape has been released by Boko Haram to claim such 'success', especially at a time they have been on the back foot for a while.
3. From the picture allegedly showing the 'dead' soldiers on the net, it's obvious to dicerning minds that, from the damaged bus/vehicle parked at the side, those soldiers were involved in an accident. There's no chance those soldiers were killed by Boko Haram.
4. In the past, exclusive reports of attacks by Boko Haram, such as in Baga and Gwoza were first reported by foreign media like AFP, Reuters and Al Jazeera. up till now, no foreign or local media has reported the death of any soldier from the encounter! You only find such news on blogs or websites with no reputation for reporting factual news.
My conclusion? The military were indeed attacked (which seems to be a rare occurrence these days) but the noise about 105 soldiers losing their lives is rubbish. It is believed by only those who desperately wish the news was true. We know those set of people - they are the ones who celebrate every suicide bombing as though they had won lottery and defend every past corrupt government official as though they shared from the loot. It's in their blood!

The election is already done and dusted, any hopes PDP might be harbouring are mere illusions. With APC winning with a margin of over 40,000 votes and voters' turnout of about 30%, there are less than 20,000 votes at stake, which is not sufficient to overturn APC's lead. |
