Some students of Imo State University, Owerri under the umbrella of "Concerned Students " embarked on a peaceful protest this morning to demand for an end to the indefinite strike action embarked upon by all the staff unions of the university including ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities), NASU (Non Academic Staff Union), and SSANU (senior staff association) since March 21st 2016.
The strike which have kept the students at home for close to 2 months now has crippled all academic, non academic as well as economic activities in the area. The students who have mostly travelled home have left their exorbitantly rented hostels unoccupied as their rents waste.
Also, the academic calendar has suffered loss of weeks and whenever school resumes, the students will be the ones under pressure to make up for lost time.
The year one students of the 2015/16 academic year are yet to write their first semester exams and the Medicine students who were supposed to start their exams are yet to do so.
These and more are what the students are agitating against. Lets hope that the government of the state that is led by Governor Rochas Okorocha " The Grand Commander of Free Education" and other parties involved in the strike deadlock will heed the students' cries resolve the problem. We hope no violence will erupt in this as in the university of Port-Harcourt case.

This is to bring to your Notice that the Imo State University,Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU are still on their Indefinite Strike Action .

As we Urged and advise our students not to listen to any Rumour and Gossip spreading around that the Strike has been called off today been Tuesday and 100level Exam starting tomorrow been wednesday,,

As confirmed by our Office this Morning being Tuesday 29 March 2016 from members of ASUU, the Indefinite Strike is still on as the ASUU members awaits for the Governors response anytime this week.
