Another development. A friend just came in now wt Starcomms Wifi Combo Gateway device dat has 1 usb & 4 wan or lan ports. He connected his Starcomms Usb modem to it & started browsing on his laptop.

Since it's a wireless device I tried to link up my N97 to it too, d wireless signal was detected & while I tried to connect, it requested ''wlan network name''. Both my & I didn't know what to put really. Playing around with ''starcomms'' ''huawei'' etc as wlan ntwk name proved abortive. Pls what could we have put in dis situation? Does dis have to do again wt wep key?

Pls help. Dis device will still be wt me atleast 2-3 more days fm now.

Does it mean if it's a free ntwk or unlocked, it won't even prompt me to input wep key?

Hi all. Pls if u are a Nokia N97 user & frequently uses dis wireless feature don't hesitate 2 share here.

My phone has always detected wireless connectivity esp when I'm in some vicinity: and dis I get regularly in church & private universities environment. But since I bought it I've not bn able to connect & browse once wt dis feature. I guess dis may hav some settings.

However pls guide me thru dis, what do I do? For instance, once d signal is detected, I go to Settings > Wlan connectivity. Here u hav options like:
start browsing
connect
refresh
filter wlan ntwks
details settings
help
exit.

If I click connect, it will require ''WEP key for wlan''. If I try put anything there it will say ''invalid wep key or wlan ntwk name''. Pls what is dis wep key? Could it mean d ntwk is locked or d ntwk password?

On another occasion, if I click connect, it will pop up options like:
infrastructure (public)
infrastructure (hidden
ad-hoc public).
Now if I click on any of dis, it will pop up another window of terminologies like:
open ntwk
wep
802.1x
wpa/wpa 2.

Infact at dis stage I get more confused. Pls N97 users, hw hav u bn using d wlan/wireless feature of dis great phone? Your assistance is appreciated. So thx in adv.

1. U can watch dstv stations if u hav d softwre installed. Cant remember d site name again where I got one downloaded. Will reach u if I grab it again. U can also try do a little ''googling''
2. U can watch thru additional device (Check out for d name on dis forum, much has bn said abt it). The last time I priced it @ SLOT, computer village was N14k brand new. D price b4 now used 2 b higher. I think gurus can contribute 2 fully help u out.

Hi all. I'm beginning 2 appreciate d recent wonders of so-called chinko (china) phones. They've so improved on its tech in so much dat some sweet features dat are not obtainable in most high-end phones are found there.

I mean fetaures like sound recorder, FM recorder, analog TV, TV recorder, front and back camera, HD screen display, etc. all without any additional software. Most unbelivable part of it is d affordable prices at which they are sold considering d sweet features: btw N6k to 10k

Although, china phones are not without their flaws but not withstanding, I think there has been some outstanding things about them lately too. I just bought 1 for my wife lately & was greatly thrilled by these features I discovered in it. Infact, I was first attracted to it being very sleek, a perfect imitation of Nokia C3-01. And d most shocking thing there is dat d image/picture of its front camera (640x320) is far clearer & sharper than d image of d front camera of my Nokia N97 32g! Also d TV recorder works great without dropping frames or cracking.

I will strongly dat we give any of them (recent models) a trial. Nothin to loose.
