RomanceRe: He Dumped Me Because I Fought Over Him (To Keep Him) by alliednetw(m): 7:40pm On Oct 29, 2007
A CONFESSION:
I came into this cafe on friday evening and was attracted to this thread.I didnt know that the ID of the last user was still on when i typed nairaland address into the address bar.And i went ahead to make my post "this is a scene from one of those naija homevideo, "
I realised my mistake after i had made the post and it didnt occur to me that the damage to the story will be this serious.
I came again this evening and met the mess of my mis-action and inaction.
I want to apologize to the poster shy1amy for putting her in such a tight situation and to all nairalanders.
I use internet service in my office during office hours and use the same cafe in my area after work.It didn't occur to me that i had messed some1's life up,one thing i hate doing to ppl especially ladies.
Don't grief over this further Shy1amy.

Talking of the depth of the nigerian stockmarket, this market cannot take any share that will come out for over 260naira($2)per share.
An I.P.O by MTN may not be priced below 500naira per share considering that MTN's current share price is R113.55(about $17)
Who will pay 2000naira per share for this Naija?

@Pilgrim and others
I will remind you of the three i s of your criticism (Ignorance,Irrationalism,Intellectual indolence)
When Mary is called Glory of Isreal,, jerusalem and you wan quench over it,
You fail to see that all ppl of God (especially jews who lived faithfully) qualify for these titles by the merit of their sonship with God.
Mary as a daughter of zion who lived a live that God is proud of is 'Glory of Isreal',like esther,Elizabeth and others.
I have heard many xtians called 'son of God',are these ppl claiming to be Jesus? No
Many penticos call their pastor's wife 'Mother in Isreal','my spiritual Mother' etc
The point here is that these phrases have their meanings in the context they are used.
The day a pentico friend gave me the Queen of heaven arguement(Jer),I realised that these ppl seem to think through the anus.My answer to him was 'Who is the king of heaven?'.His answer 'Jesus'.I asked again
"in Jesus' heavenly kingdom who is the Queen,
the demon"?He went dumb.I am still waiting for the answer for years now.Probably Pilgrim or anyone can still rescue penticos with the right answer.

Is it not irrational to equate Mary,Queen of Heaven with the ref in Jeremiah.

I don't exactly shared Oga Wanajo's pessimism on the insurance sector.
Virtually all companies there have performed great in the past 9months.
The future is indeed bright.

It is IGNORANCE,IRRATIONALISM AND INTELLECTUAL INDOLENCE for A.K.O. to think and say that Catholics worship Mary's statue. When you bow in a court of law to the judge ,have you worshipped him?If yes, then all lawyers are idolatriers and will go to hell.
Christianity EtcRe: Glory To Jesus, Honour To Mary! All The Real Catholics Please Stand Up! by alliednetw(m): 9:54pm On Oct 09, 2007
The Protestant Faith is built on 3 Is:
1.IGNORANCE e.g Not knowing that the Church is the Mother of the Bible. The Bible did not make the Church, rather the Church made the Bible. If the Church was to insist on "the Bible only",there won't be the New Testament because it was not part of the Bible as at when the Church began.
2.IRRATIONALISM:PROTESTANT ARGUEMENTS ARE YET TO GET DOWN AND TACKLE reason for reason, point for point, issues raised in the doctrines of the Church they criticise.e.g When someone insist that Mary is not special and was only privilleged, this critic fail to address the Catholic position that God gave Mary special privillegde(grace)and we christians are doing God's will in honouring Her whom God first honoured.Again these critics seem not to know the difference between honour and worship. They also fail to realise that to'pray' means so much like 'to ask, confer, interceed'etc.when you ask your pastor or anyone to 'please pray to God for my , 'You have asked for intercession.
3.INTELLECTUAL INDOLENCE:I see in Protestants a sort of indolence to deep thinking which has made it difficult to understand and contextually criticise the Catholic doctrines. Some of the issues on which the protests were raised by the "Reformers" who were themselves neophytes in theology seem forgotten and things have been taken to the lowest ebb that make me ask my Protesetant friends"Who make your doctrines?A man who just wakes up,suddenly becomes a Christian, attends a 3-month bible course cannot make a sound doctrine. It took Jesus 3 years to personally tutor His Apostles.Paul was a trained theologian of the gamalielian School.
As long as Protestants fail to have in their possesion all the information and knowledge available to Christianity for ages, their belief system will remain hollow, shallow and half baked.
But Thank God we are all entitled to whatever belief we choose. No one is being forced to accept anything.
THERE IS ONLY ONE CHURCH WHICH STARTED WITH PETER THE ROCK AS THE HEAD AND HAS CONTINUED WITH UNBROKEN LEADERSHIP FROM HIM TO BENEDICT XVI

I went to visit a friend one evening at one of those Late Idahosa's church
and i laughed myself hoarse when i saw the picture of the late pastor hanging
on the wall of the church.
My question to the guy and his church members was 'If with just one leader dead
you have his picture in your church, when your church gets to 500years with thousands of leaders dead, how many pictures will you have on your church walls. How come you
make pics and videos of pastors, wives and your family and friends and you dont call that images
It is funny to me that Protestants pretend to not know that pictures, videos, paintings etc are all images. If you keep anybody's picture, have you not made or kept an image?
literary and out-of-context interpretation of the scripture is unfortunate

@acquita
Dividend is not the only attraction to investing in shares of a company.Capital
appreciation and bonus/scrip shares are in my opinion better considerations. If you bought your FCMB before Feb this year, you have made about 200% profit through
capital appreciation.
If you want to sell, wait till after their public offer. But be sure you are moving
into another sound and profitable stock.

BusinessBecoming A Billionaire by alliednetw(op): 10:52pm On Sep 10, 2007
Becoming a billionaire seems like an impossible dream. A very few people manage it, though. Most do it through business, as Bill Gates did, some inherit the money as the heirs to Sam Walton’s Wal-Mart fortune have done, and a very few do it through investment.
Of these, Warren Buffett is the best known. He came from an undistinguished background and wasn’t moneyed, but by April this year his personal fortune was estimated at $52 billion by Forbes magazine. This makes him the third richest person in the world.
His investment record is quite astonishing. If you had put $10,000 in his first investing partnership in 1956, and then switched with him to being a shareholder in his company Berkshire Hathaway you would by 1986 have turned it into $5 million. With reinvested dividends it would be worth much more today.
How did he do it? Well, here are 10 strategies that Buffett uses to make money.
1. Invest in value
Warren Buffett always looks to get $1 for 75 cents. That is true whether the business is as boring as shoes or furniture manufacture, or as complex as insurance. He has invested in all these.
He works by analysing a company’s accounts in the manner recommended by Ben Graham, the father of investment analysis. If a company was sitting on property worth $100 million, had cash of $50 million and other assets saleable at $50 million, but was only valued by the market at $175 million, then that firm would be worth a closer look.

2. Look for the business franchise
Businesses that work really well over the long-term don’t just build a better mousetrap, they own the patent. A unique asset, like a 100-year title to a rich mineral coal seam close to a steel mill, an airport site by a big city, or a powerful brand like Coca-Cola are all enduring franchises. These companies don’t need to fight on price to get business. They have an unfair advantage.
The opposite of franchises are commodity businesses. There are millions of them, and what they all have in common is that they have to trade on price because they face effective competition.
3. Buy good businesses
This sounds obvious, but isn’t. By Buffett’s yardstick, a good business is one with a high real return on invested capital, rather than with good headline earnings growth. Those returns should be measurable in cash terms. Dividends are a good indicator that cash is available.
4. Avoid businesses run for the short-term
Too many firms have managers who think short-term and act that way. Buffett hates businesses where boardroom insiders sold into temporary market strength or expanded the company through over-priced acquisitions.
5. Patience is a virtue
Having the patience to wait for incredible bargains is a discipline Buffett has used time and again. Market mis-pricing comes around with regularity. Professional fund managers are often under too much pressure to act to be appearing to do nothing, but the small investor can wait without anyone looking over his or her shoulder.
My guess is that Warren Buffett would be keeping a keen eye on how incredibly cheap some British banks have become in the recent market falls.
Seven tips for surviving the stock market wobbles
6. Buying businesses with free cash
Buffett has many times bought into companies that have a huge amount of under-used cash sitting on the balance sheet and then used that to purchase other firms.
In John Train’s book on Buffett, The Midas Touch, he describes how Buffett bought the firm Blue Chips Stamps in 1968 and used the stock of stamps sitting on the balance sheet to turn into cash which he then used to Buy See’s Candies and the Buffalo Evening News. These last two buys came at no capital cost to Buffett himself.
7. Keep it simple and straight forward
Buffett avoids meetings, has no acquisitions department and has a modest personal staff. He doesn’t subscribe to investment fashions, or jargon-laden approaches. For Warren Buffett, investment doesn’t have to be dressed up to work. It makes money in its shirtsleeves.
8. Keep cutting those costs
Cost-cutting and an almost skinflint approach to overheads mark Warren Buffett out from others. This is reflected in his personal life. He still lives in the same modest house he bought in 1958 for $31,000, and drives a very ordinary car.
His own salary is only $100,000 a year, which is about a tenth what the typical chief executive of a similar-sized firm might be paid.

9. Understand the figures
Thinking like an accountant is a pre-requisite for investing like Warren Buffett. He can really get to grips with a corporate engine room, and home in on the machinery which is vital to the generation of profits. Only by doing so can you understand the difference between so-so companies, good ones and great ones.
10. Make money while you sleep
Buffett works hard, but he’s not a workaholic. Having used simple ground rules to ensure that he knows he’s only taking a low level of risk and will be in for the long-term, he’s an investor who can sleep soundly and ignore the panicky movements of the markets.
