I used shingles and I don't have any complaints so far, and by God's grace, I won't have any at all. I believe you can't go wrong with any stone coated sheet with good thickness. Also the installer matters a lot. Ensure you get an experienced installer

Ogun State has cheaper wood planks too because their loggers have better equipments and there are forests from Idi-ayunre, Ore, Ijebu to Oke Ogun and Ibarapa.

Proximity of Ogun State to Lagos State May make wood prices to be a bit higher than those of Osun.
Nonetheless, go and do window shopping.

Visit a sawmill or plank market and don’t pose like a serious buyer when you get there.

Just prize each plank casually, one type in one shop or from one seller. Don’t forget - CASUALLY.

You can also interact with a known carpenter guy or a furniture guy elsewhere on the street.

Don’t forget the rule - CASUALLY.

If you look too serious, they will raise the price.

Those we bought 5 months ago were like 1/5 of what he quoted for you now.

I expect it to have gone up but not up to what he quoted for the planks.

For the nails, the prices are fairly ok but you can’t still enter one or two shops to check it yourself.

These artisans no carry fire for head. Don’t accept anything they throw at you. Some of them use jazz and voodoo to talk to clients when quoting, some times.

First you need to know the size of your building. Dont just listen to what the carpenter/bricklayer say take a measuring tape and measure the building by yourself and verify the price of the wood by yourself. Ask the carpenter the type of wood he’s getting for you. Then come back here

Assist me to peruse the above quotation. The building is a 4-bedroom bungalow. The length is 43ft by 72ft according to him. Also, he said the height of the kingpost is 22ft.

Please, help me check the quote if they're not artificially inflated. Also, if the labour cost(workmanship fee) is moderate we can negotiate further.

@Alliswell73 That’s not how to do it. He needs to give you a quote showing the Quantity of materials needed with their individual prices. Then separately also give how much he’s willing to charge for his workmanship. Just telling you he would collect 1.4m for everything is not done.

He said he would collect #1.4m for everything. Check the second list. He just listed the materials needed for it.

Buy material ur self nd don't ever allow artisans to buy materials for u.

Look for similar project around you and ask questions from the owner to compare materials required

Monitor usage of ur materials urself or by trusted proxy

12mm iron rod is not up to 12k, rings are not up to that amount given you.

Go out nd price them nd buy them urself nd also monitor the consumption.

If the money is really surplus u won't be asking all these questions. Save urself from rippers nd do the needful buy involving urself in all these process.

If u fail to yield to all these free advice and continue to ask questions, u will b surprise at the level of damage done to u financially.


Like I advice u earlier, buy 700 blocks first and monitor the usage.

Ignore whatever anybody is telling u. Don't give them money to buy materials.

If it's truly 72ft by 42ft, to do this the drawing is required, but at all at all u can't use 1000 blocks.

BUY the blocks urself this time around. First buy and make sure the 700pcs of blocks u will buy ur self is delivered to the site.

Then monitor the usage. After consuming the 700 blocks, then u can easily count the remaining blocks and buy.

Never allow them to buy materials for you 🙏pls
