Career / Article: Life Lessons From Soccer (part 2) by alliyse(m): 11:30am On Jul 03, 2015

As we all know, Soccer requires a great deal of teamwork. Players of the game must be coordinated and cooperative if they desire to success on the field. Apart from teamwork, soccer teaches that the only sure path to success is through hard work, setting feasible goals and having Perseverance. In the first part of this article, (click here incase you missed it) , we talked on some similarities between Soccer and Life.
Continue after the cut..

So, What does Soccer has to teach us about life?

(6.) Have a feasible plan or goal

Football managers in the EPL and other leagues in the world often have a fixed number or amount of points they set for their team. For sure you would have heard some managers in the EPL murmuring that "once their team gets 40points, they are sure of survival" i.e not being relegated. So also in life, we should have a feasible plan or goal that is achievable.

(7.) Once you start well you should finish well

Every year you see some teams involved in a relegation dog-fight. They start putting more efforts into matches. In-fact, some of those battling with relegation to the lower league play so good that they even take points from those teams in the higher half of the log table. Assuming these teams had a good start to the league, put in more vigour, more efforts to their game of course they won't be involved in their struggles with relegation.

Likewise in life, we see some people who wait until the last second before they start putting in efforts. Some won't read until its two or three days to their exams, won't work on their business plan(s) until they are to face panel of judges. Don't ever let your survival tactics, business plans go down the wire before you start working on them. Early planning goes down a long way in helping you achieve success .

(8.) Always be consistent

Chelsea football club, winners of the Barclays Premier league for this season actually deserve to win the Barclays English Premier league. They were not only the team with the most wins but they were the most consistent. Though at times, they were accused of packing the bus and playing boring games. But to be honest, they had an aim which was to get their desired results. Though they suffered upsets at some moments, they picked themselves up and continued getting results.

Few would remember their loss to Tottenham Hotspur football club at the turn of the year but they moved on from the defeat. For a team who spent the most time at the summit its no mean team to feat to win the premier league despite the set backs . And the main lessons from them is that, at times its not how you play the game that matters but how you get the right or desired results.

Nairaland / General / FUNAAB Gets Grant From LASG by alliyse(m): 10:06pm On Apr 28, 2015
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Raji Fashola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has presented a cheque on behalf of the Lagos State Government to researchers in the University, to fund a study on environmental profiling of land-filled sites in the state. The study is being conducted by researchers in the University, headed by Professor Toyin Arowolo of the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM) and the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

Shedding more light on the grant, the Director of Grants Management (DGM), Professor Kolawole Adebayo, who represented the University at the occassion, said the Lagos State government instituted the research grant programmes to sponsor researches that fit into the developmental plan of the state as well as research ideas, innovations or anything in the line of research that would help the state to become a better place.
According to Professor Adebayo, who disclosed that the grant was open to researchers from institutions in Lagos and beyond, said that the Professor Arowolo-led team submitted a proposal on environmental profiling of land filled sites to Lagos State, which looked at the sites where Lagos State had been using as dump sites by assessing the water, air and soil in those areas to determine how hazardious they are to the community and what could be done to remedy the situation. The proposal was worth N4 million, out of which the state government released 50 per cent upfront.
The Director further disclosed that the criteria for selection was based on 100 percent merit while the Board for the grant award was headed by the Panel Chairman, Professor Olufemi Bamiro, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan and Chairman, Lagos State Research Grant Committee, adding that the Professor Arowolo-led team was the only team that was presented by FUNAAB and won. According to him, the implication of this is that "it re-enforces the drive to make our University a world-class University. World-class Universities solve problems. Lagos State had a problem and we went there and said we can solve this problem and they saw it. So, it wasn't like man-know-man. It was based on merit as a result of our proposal submitted by the team of researchers. The Lagos State government saw that this was a problem that it had and these are researchers that could provide solutions".
"The award re-enforces our status as a University that addresses real life problems by finding solutions to them and on the long run, it sends a signal throughout the federation and beyond that, if there are problems in this country, there are brilliant scientists, particularly, in our University and other institutions of higher learning, who could provide solutions for them", he added. Speaking at the occasion, Governor Fashola condemned the fact that the country continually consumed foreign peoples' innovations when the country has the human resource and the intellect that can develop innovations and new things in the country. Governor Fashola expressed the believe that Nigerian scientists have the capability to produce innovations for the rest of the world if well-funded and called on other state governments to support indigenous researches in the nation's ivory towers.
Corroborating the Lagos State Governor, Professor Adebayo said "for us as researchers, we would urge every state, every government in Africa and beyond to key into this. For instance, when we talk about internationalisation, the European Union (EU) has research funding policies. They fund research annually, United States' Agency for International Development (USAID), Department for International Development (DfID); all of them have funding for research. Nigeria has just started along that line with the creation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). So, I buy into the vision that Governor Fashola had given us that we, as a nation and people, need to develop a culture of investigation and research and we cannot do this without funding. A University like ours should have research funds running into billions of Naira. In FUNAAB, I think we are on the right path because our research portfolio is a lot higher than what it used to be, but this is just the beginning".
Professor Adebayo further disclosed that though the study is for a period of 18 months, after the initial release of 50 percent, which was the sum of N2 million was paid, a 2nd tranche of N1.6 million has been collected, due to the impressive progress made by FUNAAB’s team of researchers. He added that it was the tradition of the University for every research to have a student component and as such, postgraduate and undergraduate students would be carried along to gain experience in the conduct of research as well as writing of proposals and reports.

Romance / 12 Types Of Women You Will Meet At A Bar by alliyse(m): 2:41pm On Apr 28, 2015
Going out for a few drinks with the guys and hoping to meet the girl of your dreams? First, get familiar with the different ladies who will be there. When it comes to meeting women at a bar, it’s safe to say that you may not always find a wife or girlfriend material. There is always the chance that you might find a rare catch while sitting at the bar, because not all women who hang out at bars are looking to get sloshed.

When men go to a bar, they are typically looking for a good time, to catch a buzz, to let off steam, and maybe find someone to take home for a one night stand. Some men may find someone who’s just their type. Others might find a woman who’s only in there to have a good time. The unlucky ones usually find themselves either completely alone or cleaning up the mess of a girl who’s had one too many tequila shots.

The women you’ll encounter when you go to a bar

As mentioned before, you may meet the girl of your dreams, but first check out this list of the more realistic characters you can expect to find when you go bar hopping, according to Love Panky.

#1 The alcoholic. This is at the top of the list, because it really goes with the theme appropriately. While not everyone at the bar may be a regular drinker, you can usually spot the rookie from the veteran. The rookie sips girly drinks, and hours will pass before she asks for a top up. The veteran drinker is usually front and center, taking shots or downing beers like one of the guys. She may be loud and obnoxious, overly flirtatious, and quite often visibly tanked.

#2 The desperado. The Desperado is a frequent fixture at the bar. She may be looking for love or just hungry for attention. Either way, she’s looking for a man, and will desperately pursue this however she sees fit. While you might consider this an easy pass, these ones can go from one night stand to stalker before you know it. The desperado will go to great lengths to avoid feeling rejected.

#3 The cougar. She’s on the lookout for prey, and her specialty is fresh meat. The cougar isn’t looking for a sugar daddy, she wants a young guy to prove that she’s still “got it.” Either she’s a divorcee, or an independent older lady who wants to call the shots, without the hassle of being tied down. While some cougars are able to get some guys to settle down, think Demi and Ashton, she is really looking for instant gratification. You can spot her by noticing who she checks out, and if she buys you a drink, you can be sure you’re on her radar.

#4 The sugar baby. The sugar baby is usually a younger woman under 40, who is well dressed, primped, and looking like she walked out of a beauty magazine. She is looking for a rich sugar daddy, and she won’t even look at you twice if you’re under the age of 30.

She’ll watch the men coming in, and business suits and fat wallets are her specialty. Save yourself the rejection with these ones if you don’t drive a luxury car, or own a seriously profitable business.

#5 The promiscuous girl. I don’t really need to spell this one out, and while it can sound a lot like the desperado, the promiscuous girl is not usually looking for love. She’s all about lust. She is usually dressed in something way too risqué for the bar scene, and she’ll flash you the sex eyes if she’s interested.

She’s the type to come to your place for a quickie and be gone by sunrise. She won’t leave a note or a phone number. She wants one thing, and if it’s that good, you may have a chance for another encounter, just don’t call it a date!

#6 The tease. The tease can look like any of the above, but she’s strictly there to have fun, and her idea of fun is playing mind games with men. This woman will enthrall you, lead you to believe you’re getting somewhere, and you’ll fawn over her with attention.

You’ll buy her drinks, appetizers, cigarettes, cab fare, anything she wants, in hopes that you might get the chance to hook up with her, and then… nothing. She disappears, politely says she has to go, the number she gave you is not in service, and the name she gave you isn’t on Facebook. In other words… she played you, and you fell for it.

#7 The bachelorettes. In case men haven’t quite figured it out yet, the loud screaming bunch of sloppy drunks with tiaras and pink ribbons that have taken over the bar are usually a bachelorette party. These women are there to get crazy, drink until they can’t remember the night, and usually display out-of-control boy-crazy behavior. It’s best to leave these women to their own devices, as they probably won’t remember your face tomorrow anyway.

#8 The singletons. The singletons come in pairs or groups. They are sometimes quietly scoping the room for prospects or they are the wild ones, with guys flocked around them, fighting for their attention. The wild ones are bubbly, and lay the flirtation on thick.

They may be desperados or promiscuous girls, or they may just be looking for a good man in the wrong place. Usually, they are celebrating a break up or looking for a rebound to ease their loneliness. If you choose wisely, you might find a diamond in the rough.

#9 The married woman. The married woman is the one wearing her wedding ring *in some cases*, but is still hoping a guy will check her out or buy her a drink. Then she’ll chalk up her marriage to a lonely, sexless, boring existence, and blame her confession on the alcohol.

Mind you, she didn’t need the drink to dump her sorrows on another man, she was just looking for a shoulder to cry on, and by this I mean [insert something naughtier]. It’s best to leave this woman alone, as she is usually not worth the deception.

#10 The party girl. The party girl can’t be tamed. She’s young, she wants to have fun, and that’s all there is to it. She could care less about the guys at the bar, unless they are contributing to her having a great night out. She’s not necessarily looking for love or sex, as she’s just there to enjoy the party.

#11 The sideliner. The sideliner is kind of like a wallflower. She usually either sits alone, or with her friends who dragged her out to the bar. She may not even like to drink, and she may often be seen sipping the same drink throughout the entire night.

She’s probably the best wife material, if you can get past the fact that her friends are usually dressed more glamorously. Her attire is pretty low key, and her aura may be a bit standoffish.

#12 Some other guy’s girlfriend. Like the married woman, but this one’s harder to spot, as she won’t have a ring. You may buy her drinks, and she may genuinely flirt with you, but at the end, when you work up the courage to ask for her number, she drops the boyfriend bomb on you.

You feel confused and unsure of what to do next, you can’t figure out if you were rejected because she just didn’t like you, or she really did have a boyfriend. Either way it’s a lose-lose.

Politics / Liberty, A Necessity For True Democratic Nation by alliyse(m): 12:05pm On Apr 17, 2015
"Give me liberty to know, to utter, and argue freely according to conscience" - John Milton 1644. One of the basic of having a true democratic federation is the ability for the citizens under a sovereign to have absolute liberty.

In the liberal democracies of the west, liberty is widely held to be the most basic of human rights, an ideal that is worth fighting for and if need be dying for. Isahiah Berlin 1969 states that " those who have ever valued liberty for its own sake believed that to be free to choose and not to be chosen for is an inalienable ingredient in what makes human beings human".
Liberty is the absolute right of man by nature, "so every human most be free to feel free and experience as confer on them by mother nature". The 1999 Constitution as amended states the " Fundamental Rights" that the people of the federal republic of Nigeria must have and enjoyed and not to be denied of it for them to have a true democratic sovereign nation is stated emphatically in Chapter 5, Section 33 - 44 of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended give a clear transitive statement concerning the rights and liberty that the citizen of Nigeria must have and enjoyed under the sovereign government. Section 33 - 44 states clearly "The right to life", The right to personal liberty, The right to fair hearing, The right to private and family life, right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, The right freedom of expression and press, The right to peaceful assembly and association. Right to movement, Right to freedom from discrimination, Right to acquire and own immovable properties, and compulsory acquisition of property.
The there must be a sincere question we should be asking our self's as Nigerian citizen is, Are we truly enjoying these fundamental rights?.
"Justice is the constant and perpetual will to render to others what is due to them" Emperor Justinian, 6th century AD.
I believe we are in the season of change and we must make it a duty as a bona fide citizen of Nigeria to fight for our fundamental rights.

I remain your comrade for democratic struggle Comrade Bolutife Olayemi (impact).

Literature / Nigeria Is Waiting by alliyse(m): 6:18am On Apr 16, 2015
While Nigerians continue to wait for the release of the abducted Chibok girls 366 days later, Akinola Caleb just like every other Nigerian is burdened and heart-broken, as He patiently awaits the arrival of the remembered young Nigerians from the thick Sambisa Forest. Peek " Nigeria is waiting " after the cut.

#BRINGBACKOURGIRLS

My heart is burdened-
like the Olumo rock
tears roll off my cheeks
like the Ikogosi falls

My sane mind,
still can't conceive sane thoughts, my spilled
blood wrote, write and still will write.

To the girls- missing and lost
right on their fatherland

For 365 days, fed with sex
adorned with chants
tortured with what mouths can't say

Our doors are opened
our hands are spread
waiting to receive you
If you'll return, someday.

Our tear glands are almost dried
please come back
to wipe off what is left of our bitter tears

Mama, papa, brothers and sisters
await that eve when you'll come home.
Nigeria is waiting for you, come home!

It is still the season of free data as telecommunication companies woo their subscribers with freebies.

Latest on queue is Airtel Ng who just re-introduced some blocked offers. Andriod users have being lucky as they can tweak their IMEI to get Free Data as they desire.

But do you know, you don't need to go through the stress of IMEI tweaking to get between 500MB to 3GB? Interesting, is'nt it? :d .

Thanks to Balogun James of BAOJ Technology Communications (BTC).

How To Get 2GB

From your Airtel line, Just send ‘join' to ‘141'. The data is valid for a month and can be used on all data-enabled devices.

Sports / Life Lessons From Soccer by alliyse(m): 1:12pm On Apr 14, 2015
A lot of people worldwide watch the game of soccer keenly; but do you know there's more to just watching the game. A whole lot can be learnt from watching the game. Football is just like culture, it’s a way of life. Millions of people over the world make money from the game. From professional footballers to amateurs, to the ball boys, the newspaper vendors at the street corners and even those who place bets on the game.
Football is more than an identity to these people. So in this first part we will take some similarities between the game and this life.

(1). There Is Always A Stage In Life To Hone Your Skills : - Every week, footballers take to the training grounds to hone their skills. They work on their paces, fitness and passes, playing tactics and marking. What is learnt on the training grounds is very paramount as it goes a long way to determining how they turn out on the match day. Players who do not perform well in trainings always find it hard to earn places or spots in the match day squad let alone the starting eleven. This stage is also found in this life. The training grounds are the classes, the schools or better still level of education. Getting the best education is part of this life. Having the best education leads to better performances at least to a certain level according to my school of thought

(2). Learn To Accept Criticism as they come in two different ways but believe me they might spur you to perform better. Take for example, Mesût Ôzil, German international and Arsenal FC attacking midfielder has been criticized most times for a drop in form. But this year, he seems to have put the criticism behind him and he's putting more efforts. As we have seen in 2015, he now has more tackles, getting more assists and even scoring more goals. This was made evident in his performance against Liverpool FC on the 4th of April with a well taken free kick which was the 2nd goal of the match.

(3). Learn To Take Your Chances As They May Be Very Crucial - At the beginning of the 2014/2015 season of the EPL, Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur football club was the 3rd choice striker after first team choices Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor. The only matches he played were the Europa league matches and cup games. He took his chances well and excelled even to the point of toppling Soldado and Adebayor. He is currently England's best striker and he recently won a call up to the English national team where he scored after coming on as a substitute. He even scored after 79 seconds after coming on.

(4). Hardwork Pays:- Work hard and you can achieve greatness. Ex-Southampton striker and current Liverpool FC of England striker, Rickie Lambert was a carpenter and He played at 3rd division side. Rickie Lambert was focused and found his way to the top going on to represent England and playing for Liverpool after a big money move from Southampton.

(5). You Never Know Who Is Watching So Give Your Best:- Brazilian great and ex Barcelona FC club of Sain midfielder Gaucho Ronaldinho was spotted when he was playing for an amateur league side in his native country. His team won the match 23 nil and he scored all the 23 goals in the match. He later went on to win the FIFA world cup with Brazil, the champions’ league and a couple of league titles with FC Barcelona of Spain.

Politics / The Self Acclaimed Change Agents - Adekunle (@auxanojyde) Olajide by alliyse(m): 12:15am On Mar 23, 2015
Over the years, I have watched the Nigerian polity with pity; I imagine the depth of deceits reflecting from the self-acclaimed change agents flocking the Nigerian political scene. I’m non-partisan and I do not crave for the cards of any political party, however, this write-up is one of my many contributions to Nigeria - my country, I have no other. I am tired of re-branded thieves portraying themselves as our “messiah” - I join millions of other patriotic Nigerians to say with no apology that this is not acceptable.

Shall I begin by calling to our memory the whole concept and meaning of change? Change is the process of becoming different or a replacement, I will dwell more upon the term “replacement” in this context; it is brain-sick to replace old for old, the colourful campaigns of familiar faces who has once pivoted and mis-pivoted the affairs of this nation now come at us under a different slogan and a political party smiling pretentiously.

Change should be complete overhauls of the present, anupset and a total replacement by a different set of people guided by a completely different ideology. So if you've been talking about change, I hope this is not too late to truly teach you what change should mean in the right context.

There is nothing wrong in offering change if you think the present administration isn't doing much to better the lives of the citizens (I think so too) but it's very important to take a microscopic look at the gloves of the chef serving us bitter pieces of beautifully iced cakes.

Their antecedents are glaring, John Odigie Oyegun, was a former governor of Edo State and during his one year rule he didn't contribute anything meaningful to the betterment of his people and every Edo State indigene knows this. During his chairmanship of the defunct ANPP, he just went through the motion like other random godfathers in the political class.

Jagaban himself, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has a million of people spreading his dirty linen right before the eyes of Nigerians, I mean Nigerians who are not blind. The latest which I deem fit to mention is to make reference to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's book entitled My watch, right on page (make Jide find out the page to speak as an authority), OBJ said that out of the twenty Governors probed and investigated by EFCC, the present APC national leader is the most corrupt.

I couldn't agree more considering the fact that he's worth nothing before he came into power in 1999 that was prior to his few months as a senator in 1993. He has since been arrested twice in the USA on the allegation of money laundering and drug deals, the same man single handedly privatized Lagos state in just 8 years. Shouldn’t you join me to laugh at those thinking that this same man really wants to sweep corruption from Nigeria?

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is not left out either, he ran for the office of the governor in the then Gongola State (now Adamawa and Taraba states) in 1999 (not sure of this date) after falling out of race for presidency in 1993 with M.K.O, Abiola and Babagana Kingibe in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) primaries. In 1998, luck ran his way and he emerged Governor of Adamawa state, as governor-elect he was selected by the PDP Presidential Candidate Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as a running mate and victory embraced them, well Obasanjo have been overly intelligent and lucky, made that gave him the privilege to seat on the vice president’s seat before he had a stormy relationship with Obasanjo which forced him to run under the platform of Action Congress, unfortunately he lost the elections, the same way he was jagged out of the 2015 presidential race under APC.

People thought he was repentant and took him for a prodigal son when returned to the People’s Democratic Party, later it became clear that he only coveted the presidential ticket in 2011. This was the man who was the Vice President for eight out of the Sixteen years which his present party- the opposition-has describedas ‘miserable’.

The same man who was quoted saying "I will build school for the masses and the school fees is 1.8milliion," now they want to offer us change, (I don’t understand this). Away from their chieftains as the list seems endless, I wish every Nigerian knows this. But something happened recently in Osun State, an APC stronghold in the South-West, there was a mass protest by the workers accusing the state government of owing them five months salary!

Now, you imagine if it was a PDP controlled state? How can a party campaigning and telling us they want to better the lives of the citizens be owning that much, I think that's wickedness and it doesn't make them different. Anyway I am personally beginning to feel Osun State governor is the one sponsoring the APC campaigns and rallies with his workers supposed salaries, anyways, you can't blame me because I have every right to think that way.

Talking about our 72 years grandfather, GMB will only unnecessarily heat up the polity because a lot have been said about his age, certificate, health and so many things but I think the media should not allow themselves to be used in covering up some vital things. Neither should we waste precious time begging the question. Folly also played out in the APC camp when Former Ekiti Governor, Kayode Fayemi (who is now agitated) took Ayo Fayose to court over the issue of his certificate and Fayose was vindicated after he presented his certificate in court and in public but the best they have to say about the same certificate is that it matters lessnow that's the turn of GMB. What irony and travesty of integrity?!

The well praised Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola spoke out of paradoxically when he said "old people are not active, if you call them at night they won’t pick" in his unguarded reference to 57 Jimi Agbaje of the PDP. If his opinion is that a 57-year old man is not agile to rule Lagos state, how can a man who is 74 years rule 36 states including the country’s F.C.T? This are questions the APC need to answer before the general elections.

Please shine your eyes and don't be fooled by people who only want to use you to accomplish their SELFISH INTERESTS. Vote wisely and vote your conscience. God Bless Nigeria!!!

Literature / Be The Change - Akinola (@paragon0601) Caleb by alliyse(m): 8:16pm On Mar 19, 2015
As a science student, I was taught physical and chemical change. One reversible and the other irreversible. There is a common word in both which is, "CHANGE" which I term as "TRANSFORMATION". Let not a slogan deceive u because what we need is a chemical change not physical. This chemical change has to do with you and I.

The real change we need is right here with us. Our heart, the way we think and our orientation needs transformation. Let not all the blames be on the government as we ought to play our own part as a good citizen. Yes they have failed us several times and we need change urgently. Then if we do, it is a great challenge to us all that we ourselves needs urgent transformation because I still stand on the fact that we are the change Nigeria needs.

The earlier we allow these transformation, the better for us in building a great Nigeria. Do not be deceived, do not be used but stand on what you believe in.

One love, one nation.

Fashion / 5 Fashion Items Every Nigerian Lady Must Have by alliyse(m): 8:11pm On Mar 19, 2015
A lady’s wardrobe is an extension of her personality. Stocked with everything from essentials to frivolous knick knacks, it is equipped with everything that a lady needs for her armour.

Red Lipstick

A rich red or burgundy shade of lipstick is something that you are most likely to find in any lady’s hand bag. Whether it is a casual brunch or a date after work, red lipstick can work wonders and change your look from casual to classy. Be sure to take note of your skin tone when buying your lipstick though. Luckily, there are many shades of red to go around, so go for it!

Pastel Shirt

A pastel or white shirt is one of those evergreen classics which will never go out of style. This too can be versatile and can help you work the look in an office environment or even a casual night out. Most women prefer a blouse which is slightly fitted because something that is too loose could make you look boxy and that’s definitely something you do not want!

Trusty Heels

The term ‘killer heels’ are a cliche for a good reason. A pair of heels can absolutely transform any outfit that a lady may choose to wear. Whether it’s a business meeting or a night out in the town, nothing helps boost confidence like a pair of heels! The best heels strike a balance between balance and comfort and at the same time manage to add the extra oomph!

Blue Jeans

Another classic like the white shirt is the pair of classic blue jeans. Fitted, versatile and high on the comfort quotient, blue jeans fit in with every season and every kind of outfit - moreover they can also transition from casual to formal in a jiffy!

Little Black Dress

When in doubt, go for a little black dress, like the legendary Coco Chanel. Before a night out in the town every girl spends at least an hour debating over what to wear - which is where the trusty little black dress comes in! It is important to get the best fit and style so the dress is indeed trusty.

NYSC / Before NYSC Gets It Wrong Again - Open Letter To NYSC by alliyse(m): 12:38am On Mar 11, 2015
Technology is the name of the trend and it is reflecting in every sector of the environment. The National Youth Service Corp is not left out and they should be applauded for their involvement as it is much expected of them, especially when dealing with intellectuals who are -no doubt- emerging technological inclined adults.

However, before this respected organization gets it wrong by making mandatory the payment of a particular sum before completion of the online pre-mobilization registration, the corrected rod should be pointed and this should be checked or at the least explained.

From the onset- March 2nd when the NYSC portal was opened, it was made available as a choice for students to decide their preferred method of collecting their call up details (number and letter) either from the school or via the internet; it was a choice, not compulsive until recently when for no explained reasons this abnormality was experienced.

There have been previous instances of this organization getting it wrong, little wonder the debate on it irrelevance and the need to be scrapped. The registration however, is scheduled to end on April 4th, compulsive payment or not- those interested should do the needful but the truth be said and the right be done before NYSC gets it wrong again.

Jobs/Vacancies / Leap Africa Leads by alliyse(m): 12:37pm On Mar 06, 2015
LEAP Africa, a non-governmental organization has been commended for preparing Nigerian youths for the work force. This was possible through an employability workshop organized by LEAP Africa sponsored by Citi foundation, held on Wednesday, March 04, 2015 at ChamsCity, 2A, Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos with about 100 Nigerian undergraduates and graduates in attendance.

The facilitators at the workshop were the crème de la crème of the Nigerian work force; the series started out with Mrs. Ukwori Ejibe leading with a practical in session activity which was spiced by so much of interactions and practical activities. The session was brief but pointed and can be summarized by three words “Man, know thyself!”

Olufunmilola Bucknor, current Human Resources Manager at Unilever Nigeria was another facilitator with vast experience of managing people at major local companies and multinationals. She leaked the secret of what employers want to see in prospective employees apart from the projection made on CV. The net partnership co-coordinator for , Mr. David Jaiyeola gave a perfect picture of what a potential employee’s CV should look like; he also stated the Do’s and the Don’t’s of cover letters.

One thing he said that will not be forgotten in a hurry is this maxim… “Job search is for your whole life”

One assignment the attendees were left with is to find the mystery behind “The Human Knot”, demystify it and apply it to life henceforth. Thanks to Amaris Ifedi who led that exercising session.
It would have been too much of mistake to leave out the financial management aspect. Dr. Ore Shokefun, the head of Assessment One was present with her team to teach people a one-on-one applicable method of spending and saving money.

The last session focused on keeping one’s integrity on a job, Ahmed Alaga facilitated this session and shared extensively on personal and work ethics. At no time of the workshop were questions unattended too and the program coordinators, Mrs. Ukwori Ejibe and Ms. Amaris Ifedi unreservedly expressed LEAP’s objective with the programme to prepare the Nigerian youths for the work force within and outside Nigeria.

Two of LEAP AFRICA's publications - HOW TO GET A JOB and CRITICAL STRATEGIES FOR BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE ORGANIZATION were provided as additional resource to attendees.
Since inception in 2002, LEAP Africa has been standing out for leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability and Professionalism, just as the organization projects and is continually dedicated to supporting of the cause of Nigerian youths.

If only 40, 000 out of 400, 000 Nigerians graduates get employed yearly, then LEAP Africa can boost of having trained above 50 percent of those who will get the job, and this can continue to be, only if this sort of impactful workshop is made consistent."

Health / California Infant Dies After 8 Vaccines by alliyse(m): 1:13am On Mar 01, 2015
Parents in California are distraught after losing their infant son after being vaccinated. He died in his sleep and was taken to the hospital already deceased. Hospital staff ruled his death as sudden infant death syndrome, according to Vactruth. The couple was told an autopsy was required to be performed on their son.

After returning home, waiting to get an update, they never received one. Numerous phone calls were made to get answers. Weeks went by. Finally, they received verbal confirmation and told their son was best not to be seen prior to being cremated, because of the condition he was in. Once cremated, they could pick up the remains of their child from the crematory. They were not given the chance to say their goodbyes.

More than one year and four months have passed and the family has yet to receive his autopsy report. It turns out their son was given a vaccine not approved for his age and an extra dose of the hepatitis B vaccine that he shouldn’t have received until later on.

This harrowing story is a reminder that vaccines can be lethal. Parents shall maintain the rights to choose what medical interventions they feel are safe for their child. After all, they are the ones who have to live with the consequences.

This is such a sad story....

Music/Radio / Gospel Vs Secular ::: by alliyse(m): 12:28pm On Feb 24, 2015
I found this piece interesting and inspiring. Courtesy Gospel city Naija. Read it through and learn from it.

GOSPEL VS SECULAR :::

Okay, let's do this just for fun...there is a lesson to learn though...

TRACKS IN REVIEW:

1) 'IGWE' by Midnite Crew Vs 'Igwe' by Dbanj

THE VERDICT:

The two songs were released the same year but while Midnight Crew are still getting paid to minister their version and their song is still popular, Dbanj's version is dubbed 'old' and people expect him to come up with better music...so much pressure on him.

ARTISTES IN VIEW:

2) Don Moen Vs Patrick Adams

THE VERDICT:

Don Moen was born in 1950 and is a gospel artiste who is still relevant and travels around the globe year in and year out to minister to people from one generation to the other...We enjoy his music. Our parents enjoyed his music. Our kids will enjoy his music ...Patrick Adams is a Disco/Soul/Boogie musician that was born in the same year but just like most people won't know him, much is not known of him...especially after his generation that knew him...
:::::::::::::::::::::::

This comparison is just to draw our attention to the truth that what we do for the gospel remains timeless... The gospel doesn't become 'old skool' anywhere or anytime, even in music...it stays relevant through the ages because it ministers...

Secular songs are prone to become 'old skool' and thrives on whomever is the rave at the moment...those who are no longer 'current' usually starve or become irrelevant to a large extent...
Little wonder some female artistes who are losing popularity resort to "Lady Blabla Goes Topless" stunts to get people talking about them again and send a negative influence into the minds of people
No gospel artiste that stays true to 'His' calling will lose relevance. And they don't have to pull stunts to stay relevant...God Almighty takes care of all that.

The deep peace that comes with doing God's will can never be compared to the irrational gimmicks people pull just to rise and stay 'current' when they leave God out of the talents He gave them
Are you a musician? What you have is a gift...Your talent will do best when it helps humanity become better just as your Giver intends...

When you want to horde it and use it for your selfish needs alone, ofcourse you will have to try to make it work for you and try to stay relevant by any means you can...

Get free from all that weight and pressure... Use your gifts to edify humanity as your Giver wills.

TV/Movies / Nigeria's 'ogas At The Top' Show Makes CNN List Of “8 Must-see African Shows You by alliyse(m): 4:20pm On Feb 22, 2015
CNN’s weekly feature column, African Voices have listed out “8 must-see African shows you NEED to watch”, and listed in that compilation are 2 Nigerian shows I of Africa and one that many of us are familiar with, Oga At The Top.

I of Africa according to CNN is a show “From Aina Fadina, a Nigerian born/American raised fashion model comes “I of Africa” — a web series celebrating all things African from a global perspective. So far, she’s produced two seasons of one-on-one interviews with entrepreneurial creatives. ” Ogas At The Top as some of you already know is political satire series with puppets depicting some prominent political figures in Nigeria including President Goodluck Jonathan. It was created by the same team who launched the popular THE XYZ SHOW in Kenya.

Other shows listed in there are The White Folks in South Africa, and African City – a show from Ghana that has been described at the African Sex and The City. Love the fact that some of these somewhat under the radar
