Emmanuel Chima Opara-Sydney significantly known by his social media page(s) as 'BlacB' is a Nigerian-born American computer programmer and ethical hacker.

He attended the University of Baltimore, MD, where he acquired his BSc in computer science and Maths.

His new and first game App 'CHIKE' will be launched on the Apple iConnect developers database on the 31st of March 2015. This will make him the first Nigerian to develop and design a mobile game app on an iOS device.

One could be excited to see what 'CHIKE' is all about and why he chose the igbo name as the tittle of the mobile app game.

This is inspiring and encouraging. I believe in Nigerian youths!!!!

Literature / I Wonder - 'seyi (@adebotes) Adebote by alliyse(m): 12:02pm On Feb 21, 2015
Poet, O.A.P and youth advocate 'Seyi Adebote, few hours ago released one of His latest poems entitled - I Wonder. 'I wonder' talks on the state of the nation - Nigeria. Read the poem after the cut.

Sometimes, I wonder-

Do you as a decent lady, see any virtue

In 'big boys' with sagging trousers

And flied collars, chewing gums-

Suspiciously rambling round the street?

Sometimes, I wonder-

Hey young man! What worth do you place

On painted face,

And uncovered breasts

Loitering the street, while others retire for rest?

Sometimes, I wonder-

If followers pick any moral

From those who lead them

Or maybe, like my neighbor, Agnes, they conclude

“My boss is just a victor of circumstances”

And me a victim of nemesis

READ ALSO: #MADEINNIGERIAPOEMS - From OUR FORGOTTEN SISTERS

Sometimes, I wonder-

If after 4, 5, 6 years or maybe 8

That suit and tie graduate

Still knows why he wanders the street

With ‘my clear bag’ in his armpit

Can he convince you that his-

strong 2.1 or 1st first class degree

From a ‘prestigious' institution of higher learning

Earned him

Something other than a laminated shit

of paper

Oh! He knows too late that

Life’s real practical is way different from mixing expired

Solutions, in half emptied laboratories

Yes! Life’s real practical

Is way different from gulping liters of caffeine and coffee

In scanty libraries flipping soiled pages

Trying to figure out what someone wrote in the 18th century,

About 'how-to'

How to buy your dream cars

How to find true love

How to make it in life

How to spend your money

But, I'm sorry!

The summary is-

They end up teaching you

How-to... Get confused!

Sometimes, I wonder

If teachers really know anything

Apart from what they flog the young ones for

And shout

“That child is just a dullard”

Sometimes, I wonder

If the statement- “Nigeria go better”

Makes any sense

To the unpaid pensioner

Whose hospital result says “Acute asthma and muscular dystrophy"

Yes, I wonder

If the statement-

“Youths are the leaders of tomorrow”

makes any sense to the frustrated youths in the ghetto

To you, maybe, but for me NO! Hell NO!

READ ALSO: #MADEINNIGERIAPOEMS - LAMENTATION OF FOREIGNERS

Sometimes, I wonder

How do religious leaders mount the pulpit to quote-

I Timothy chapter 6, verse 6

Godliness with contentment is great gain

When they have lost count of the fleets of cars

Stucked up like tubers of yam in their garage?

Don’t you wonder also, how they preach

“Holiness without which no man shall see the lord”

Just after inviting only the choir mistress home for bla.. bla.. bla.. bla..

Need I say more?

The elders marvel me too

So, I wonder

Why explain just few thoughts

In endless exchanges of lying book and open letters?

Before we rise to share the grace

Here is my coup de’ grace

Sometimes, I sadly wonder

Why an old man who needs a walking stick

Goes around with a broom

Shouting- My fifu, vote for change! Vote for change!

I sadly wonder too

Why a frustrated once shoeless man

Living within rocks smiles about begging

For just your right thumb print, at all cost

When all he deserves his your middle finger

You see- if he really deserved a second coming

We all will await him like Christ’s second coming.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter,

3 words could change our world

Let it be your waking thought, your sleeping thought

Your working thought, your eating thought

Oh! you don't know

'What these 3 words are…'

Eerm, me too, I don't

But I suggest

3 words, 15 alphabets and a lifetime commitment

God Bless Nigeria!

Nigeria, just like every other person needs Prayer and While surfing through FB as usually, I came across this inspiring work of art from " a LEARNING poet". And yes, For what really matters is the food not the size of the spoon. Check the article below...

When he saw, his past

He said i quote'
I remember...
How it all stArted
On my Cambridge thoughts
I wrestle with knowledge

With a bear foot of mistakes
Ocean of words,i swim twice
I add a letter to it,to make trice
On my way to learning

I fell twice on a feet of
continuation
I failed on the stormous examples
I remember...
How i tucked concentration

On my helmet brain
Drilling sweat cant penerate my understanding
I had to virualize with great enthusiasm
Don't ask me why?

I fold my knee to forcast my future
Like my present need to feature
No nonsense held me to a stay

Health / 7 Reasons You Should Embrace Water Theraphy by alliyse(m): 11:22pm On Sep 21, 2014
In Japan, it is a common practice to drink two full glasses of water upon waking. It’s said to have the ability to fully cure a number of diseases, including cancer, as well as provide a host of other benefits. And I think they may be on to something.

As a nation, Japan has the overall greatest longevity, currently hosting over 50,000 centenarians, or 100+ year olds. Whether it’s the water practice or something in the tea they drink, we can learn a few tricks from the Japanese.

So regardless if this practice will save your life as they believe, take a look at many of the other proven benefits of drinking two full glasses of water upon waking.

1) IT REHYDRATES YOUR DEHYDRATED BODY

When you wake up after a long sleep, your body is naturally dehydrated. No matter how much water you drank the day before, you have used up your stores and it’s time to refill the tank. The first thing drinking water after waking up will do is provide your cells with much needed, life giving water.

Compare this to the norm; drinking a 16 oz. cup of coffee, which will further dehydrate your already thirsty body. Partaking in this immediate rehydration will have major noticeable benefits including:

- Feeling more refreshed

- Having more natural energy throughout the morning

- Being healthier & happier

2) FLUSHES OUT TOXINS

After nourishing your cells, drinking water after waking up will flush unwanted toxins out of your body. While you sleep your body repairs itself, replenishes energy and balances hormones. The result is toxins and other waste materials being released and waiting to be flushed out.

After clearing your body of these toxins, you will feel great and be able to absorb more nutrients from a well-balanced breakfast. This also leads to clear skin and better overall well being.

3) FIRES UP YOUR METABOLISM

Drinking water is a crucial tactic when it comes to weight loss. But drinking water after waking up is the most optimal way to do it. Think of drinking water after waking up as an alarm clock for your metabolism. This morning water kick starts your metabolism & has been proven to increase your calorie burning potential throughout the day.

Not only that, but water actually fills you up & curbs your appetite, allowing you to make smarter choices for your breakfast. These smart choices tend to roll over to smarter choices throughout the day. If you know anything about healthy eating, then you know that this momentum is so powerful. There’s no better way to start that momentum than with a tall glass of delicious water.

4) FUELS YOUR BRAIN

Here’s a fun fact; your brain is 75% water.

If you’ve been drinking enough of it, you will know that without water your brain is not going to function at its optimal level. A morning glass of water will leave you feeling sharp and clear throughout the day, giving you an edge over all the dehydrated zombies you’ll encounter.

5) KEEPS YOU REGULAR & RELIEVES CONSTIPATION

The main cause of constipation is dehydration. Drinking water when you wake up will not only cure dehydration but it will help relieve constipation, help to keep you regular and promote a morning bowel movement. This is a great way to start the day.

6) PREVENTS AND CURES DISEASE

[/img]

As stated above, in Japan it is believed that drinking water this way can cure even the harshest diseases over time. I am not a scientist, or a doctor, but what I do know is that doing this will certainly help cure disease and can certainly help prevent them, even if the effects are subtle.

Something that is so healthy and good for you, if not performing miracles, is going to have a positive impact on your health. One of my biggest beliefs is to control what you can, and don’t worry about the rest. Something like drinking a glass of water when you wake up is certainly under your control, so why not do it.

Who is Harrysong?

Harrison Tare Okiri ‘Harrysong’ is a Delta-born singer and songwriter currently signed on to Five Star Music alongside KCEE.

Let’s talk about your new song ‘Kolombo’?

Yea, my new song Kolombo is what’s going on right now and the response so far has been awesome, the acceptance is amazing.

After Kolombo, what’s next?

After Kolombo, we are entering the collaboration project with international and Nigerian acts. In the next one-month, we’ll unveil the artistes I’ll be working with.

Is there a plan for an album?

Yes, the album will drop in the first quarter of next year.

In your song ‘My Story’, you said you once slept under the bridge?

Yes, everything in that song is true. You know I’m from Lagos, I’m an Ijaw boy from Delta State, and the only thing I know how to do from my childhood is music, singing and writing. So back then I used to rehearse people’s songs to go and perform at clubs. So there was this day and it was unlucky to stay late at the club where I went to perform and they had locked the gate to the house of my friend I was squatting with, the annoying thing was I paid to perform at the show and yet they still didn’t allow me to perform because I wasn’t popular even though I paid to perform. So I was forced to sleep under the bridge at Ikeja till daybreak. ...

Harrysong is still making waves with his hit song ‘Beta Pikin’. Harrysong has just released another tune titled - ‘Kolombo’.

Politics / #BREAKINGNEWS: Adamawa Governorship Election: PDP Disqualifies Acting Gov. Finti by alliyse(m): 9:53pm On Aug 30, 2014
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has disqualified the Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, from contesting the state’s October 11 governorship election as its candidate.
The PDP said Mr. Fintiri, who took over as acting governor after the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako in July, is ineligible to participate in the party’s September 6 primaries.

The Chairman of the party’s screening panel, Ibrahim Mantu, who briefed reporters at the end of a screening Saturday, said Mr. Fintiri was disqualified on “moral grounds”.
Mr. Mantu spoke at the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja.

Acting Governor Fintiri has faced mounting criticisms over his decision to contest the election to replace Mr. Nyako, whose removal he spearheaded. Other PDP candidates for the poll have accused him of staging a “coup” and lacking the moral right to contest.

On Saturday, loyalists of the ousted governor vowed to present evidence showing Mr. Fintiri had decamped to the APC.

Details later…

Politics / #politics: What I Saw At The Funaabsu Presidential Debate - Adebote Seyi by alliyse(m): 9:06pm On Aug 21, 2014
Being one of the 15,000 FUNAABites opportune to witness a boring FUNAABSU presidential debate, the 3rd Presidential Debate organized by Top-Notch Writers Organization. I must register my thoughts; again I repeat my thoughts about the event. I understand well enough it was a debate not a comedy show; a panel was set- not judges, but the serious look on the aspirant faces kept me puzzled all through the afternoon. And as I write, I have not made a choice that’s if I will make any about who is most conscious about FUNAAB and her entities. Ironically, it is better to see from behind and at other times it is clearer to see from afar rather than siting under the same roof with supposed leaders adequately filled with void as one of the holy books described earth years ago.

In the words of the panel chairman “let me reinstate… you all signed the memorandum of understanding...” well, some did sign but did not read it, and if they read it, they did not understand it just as they did not understand some questions posed by the panel in simple tenses. If they read and understood the MoU before signing it- why did one of the aspirants (siting towards the right wing) mount the podium with a publicity tag on? Why did another disobey the due process and decided to make an aluta chant?

One truth we must face is that a man who doesn’t know 3 out of 10 lines of the Stanza two of Nigeria’s anthem may be the best man for the job. Did not you and I complain bitterly about how mute the tenure of an orator was? You surely don’t wanna be fooled again?

One quick question, hope it’s not only students with ICT’s smart identity card that will be allowed to vote? With due respect our GNS lecturers have some more buttons to press, I believe you also heard clearly when a FUNAABSU president-to-be said, “I will not promise you Heaven and Earth” well, who are you to promise us earth in the first place. The simple question was “What promises would you not make to FUNAABites as a campaign strategy?”

Nonetheless, it will be kind to thank the Vet. Doctor for informing us that “…FUNAAB is the second largest university in Nigeria” but if he was more sincere He wouldn’t have responded to that question in that way, whether FUNAABites or UNAABites we will never substitute academic activities for extensive farming. We are students, not slaves and your BONE may be stronger than mine, it will be wrong to create issues with the COLMAS aspirant, based on his college, religion, talking-singing intonation and his entire personality, after all FUNAABSU is a none partisan- simply Democratic.

I recall, the M.C. - regarded the panels as honourable, but did they reflect the last four alphabets- ABLE? Why did they have to repeat questions asked at the previous presidential debate- February? Why did some questions confront those with faint audience? Couldn’t the time keeper come with a bell? The questions are foolish but non-100 level FUNAABites demand an answer.

The silence in the hall before the final round of questions was shocking as the FUNIEC chairman orientated those present about the E-Voting, but did you watch closely as I did as one of the aspirant smile widely interestingly he is not in the department of computer science, I could have wondered in lost what made him smile happily even when other FUNAABites couldn’t applaud the supposed innovation. But I agree with the man of Integrity just as Nigerians agree with Jega- it will be free and fair.

Well, at the close of the day, did we really discover the best road not yet taken? Recall that was the focus- supposedly. FUNAABites must really respect all the contestants, not only those vying for the presidential seat; their bravery, sacrificial attitudes and other attributes exhibited including their intellectualism, diminuendos, dynamism and leadership prowess should be envied. When the best man emerges, we hope FUNAABites will not be governed for two semesters by a dummy system of government.

I never thought of using a parody account so I take responsibility for every alphabet and every punctuation mark used. After all, it just what I saw at the presidential debate.

Adebote Oluwaseyifunmi is a young Nigerian, passionate about youth empowerment and positive changes. He is based in Lagos State, Nigeria. He also has repute in Journalism and Radio Broadcasting in Nigeria.

Travel / #tourism: Tales From Ibadan's Highest Hill by alliyse(m): 9:46pm On Aug 16, 2014
This may sound very strange but it still remains a place of cultural relevance and a site of rich history in the city of Ibadan. Oke-Are is “a land inhabited by great people of honour” so said one of the elders of the land - Alh. Mudashiru. K. Are as he welcomed us. At first, he hesitated to state basically the struggles that brought about Oke-Are a larger part of the town hosting Oke-Sapati and other tourist attraction centers present. Most of the inhabitants were elderly ones, the only language with which they could respond to questionings were they did not obliged is through the ‘Yoruba Language’, of which the local assent was prominent emphasizing the pride they had in their language.

The evident white rocks on the hills of Oke-Sapati has a number of reasons for which it is valued and seen as one of the glamorous element, the functions of the rocks ranges from spiritual to educational purposes. During our visit, Pelumi, a 300-level student of the department of Geology at The University of Ibadan spoke with us concerning their field trip - “myself and my colleagues are from the department of Geology at University of Ibadan, we have come here for a field aspect of our work which is to study the depth and strength of different rocks around Oke-Sapati using a Clinometer”.

Around the hills of Oke-Sapati in Oke-Are is an adjourning area called - Layipo which houses another historic site to behold by all and a place of excitement for young ones. Bower’s Tower, a magnificent structure with a height of about 15 meters and a well decorated base, although this site which has been abandoned for a while, is still a classic site that Ibadan is very proud of. Out of concern, further enquiries were made to know the reason for the abandonment. A respondent who simply introduced himself as Bayo said “years ago when we were much younger, Layipo was a very dense forest where elders and the leaders of the land only had access to while children and women vacant such premises”. Bayo wanted to tell us more but couldn’t so he referred us to an elderly man-of-God believed to have been one of the first settlers on the land and with richer wealth of wisdom.

If prayers are been answered in just one spot in the city of Ibadan, definitely it was on the Hills of Oke-Sapati, over 200 religious denomination gathered in cliques to pray fervent prayers and exhibit aggressive display as they poured out their heart to the Lord in expectation of answers to prayers. In a chat with one of those who were present at the hill to pray, Miss Bola said “it is on this hill that prayers are believed to reach heavens and answers are made manifest”. Another respondent said “in our religion, it is believed that God listens only in a solemn area, where He can hear you voice your requests clearly”.

Abdul Fatai Oloyede - a visiting student from Oyo lamented the poor facility and the depletion though he did not forgot to mention the contribution of Ajose Unity C.S.D.A. borehole projects amongst others. Miss AbdulKareem was kind to share with us that “the development around other part of the town has taken the attention away from this area to other colourful halls and event centers in Ibadan.” After that, she directed us to an elderly woman, who gave us a bit of unclassified details of the Location. She shared with us on how the traditional leader- Are fought for the land round and round about the hills as far as University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital UCH, Bodija (a famous market in Ibadan).

She shared with us how police jealously guarded the area against theft and other in humane activities. And then she dropped the bombshell - what exactly led to the christening of the area- “the white men tried making motorable roads around this area but after some many failures then abandoned it, this led to people calling the place OKE-SAPATI, the hill of abandonment but ironically it has become a selling point in Oke-Are area of Ibadan, Oyo State.”

It will be wrong for one to regard Oke-Are and its environ as a village, though farming is slightly practiced, this has not displaced the triumph of technology advancements - about 5 telecommunications mast are sited around the center of the Shepherd’s hills not to mention the over hundred that are sited at the neighborhood around the hills. The missionaries brought about the name SHEPHERD HILL which the yorubas modified and rechristened - OKE-SAPATI.

St. Theresa Seminary is another site to behold - the large expanse of the seminary itself is awesome from the landscape, the flowers, the rocks, the steep slopes, the precious flowers and its appealing quarters.

It may shock you to know that its these same hill that housed the former premises of Galaxy TV Ibadan before it moved to its present site, but the structure of the then television station is still well maintained and a site to excite tourist.

At Bere, one of the entrances before ascending a part of Oke-Sapati (the highest hill in the city of Ibadan), there are numerous blocks/shops arranged along the road in which were stocked books, books and books. These suggest that the people of this area had a proper value on books and its relevance. I walked into one of the many shops there - God’s Will bookshop where I purchased a book entitled - “IWE ITAN IBADAN ATI DIE NINU AWON ILU AGBEGBE RE by Late Oba Isaac Akinyele (a former Olubadan of Ibadan).

At the apex point of the hills, one could easily see the north, south, east and west of the city as far as 50kilometers without using binocular or other magnifying equipment. It’s on a part of this hill you will see what WoleSoyinka saw when he wrote his poem ‘Ibadan’.

Music/Radio / Why Ibadan Artistes Are Not Making It Big — Teazer by alliyse(m): 9:41pm On Jul 27, 2014

Ibadan-based music producer, Damilola Grand Aluko, otherwise known as Oluwateazer, is gradually making himself a known and respected factor in the music industry. The graduate of Economics from Lead City University believes his time to hit the big stage is fast approaching and would do everything possible to make his mark. He speaks with Chidi Emeka-Ben about his plans and music career.

As an upcoming beat maker, how long does it take you to produce a good beat?

For me, it does not take too much time but it also depends on the kind of song and the beat one is making. But basically, some take weeks while some may take just two hours.

Who do you think is the best producer in Nigeria currently?

Don Jazzy and Shizzy are the top producers in Nigeria today. These guys are not just beat makers they are also hit makers. Music production does not mean that you have made a great beat. The beat should be able to ignite something inside the artiste during recording and post production. I think Don jazzy and shizzy have these qualities. They have been consistent in making hits for years; they have always re-invented themselves.

Why did you choose music production?

Initially I was not really serious about it. I saw it as something that interests me a lot. After sometime, I discovered that I could do it better and I started making money from it. So, I decided to stick to it since it brings me money.

How have you been able to carve a niche for yourself with this?

With the help of the social media platforms, I have been able to market my beats online. It is even easier for me since a lot of my audience are always online surfing. You need to know how much people are looking for beats online, so when you are there to provide such service to them, you are not only carving a niche for yourself but also giving your audience what they deserve.

How many artistes have you produced beats for?

I have worked with diferent artistes like k2J, Phemmes, Eazy Tiger, Kenzo, Bukky, BBT, Kenz and lots more.

How encouraging has the business been?

It has been encouraging even though we are not making money like we should be doing.

Why?

The artistes we work for are not financialy bouyant but we have to work for them so as to stay in the business. I believe that with time and help of God, money will come and my name will be known everywhere.

They don’t pay much but they take the glory at the end of the day, does that not bother you?

You are right. But my take is that if you are good at what you do and you are very consistent, you will also become an authority in what you do. Trust me, you will shine. Nobody is taking one’s glory. It is only lazy people who think like that.

Have you ever been a victim of this?

Yes, but the thing is that no matter how popular the artiste gets if the producer’s work is good he will also get his time or share of the glory.

What are the challenges you are facing as an upcoming producer?

My major problem is that the Ibadan artistes are not ready to encourage the producers, they want everything to come cheap. This is why they are struggling to catch up with their colleagues who are making it big in the business.

Why have you not moved to Lagos which it is believed to be the hub of entertainment business in Nigeria?

I actually don’t have the intention of moving. I know Ibadan is dry for this kind of business but I know that with time things will change. Other cities also started like this so I believe that with time, Ibadan will get there.

What is your take on the entertainment industry?
The entertainment industry is really growing into a big, competitive league where various talents reside.

What are your plans for the next five years?

I would like to have my own entertainment/record label that will be well known across the globe and doing what I like to do best, which is making music beats and working hand in hand with great international producers.

Who are your role models?

My international role models are Dr Dre and Timberland. In Nigeria; Don Jazzy, Shizzy and Samklef.
