Great news for residents and citizens of Qatar as the Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) service of WhatsApp has been restored, enabling individuals to make voice calls over the highly-popular, cross-platform application.

According to Qatar Living, WhatsApp calls are now unblocked in Qatar and residents no longer need the services of Virtual Private Network (VPN) to bypass restrictions.

Politics / National Youth Council Of Nigeria Elects New President by alliyse(m): 6:43pm On May 25, 2019
The umbrella body of Nigerian Youths - the National Youth Council of Nigeria has on Thursday, 23rd, May 2019 appointed a new set of National Executive officers to drive the activities of the Council across the country. Emerging the President, Comrade Oladele John Nihi who now replaces Barrister Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has made clear commitments to serve selflessly and be dedicated to the ideas of grassroots, social transformation and youth inclusion.

In his acceptance speech, Nihi said; “It is about the growth and development of Nigerian Youths rather than the satisfaction of a desire to actualize an ambition to lead or to be visible; it represents a genuine intention to place our collective desires for this great council, above the fulfilment of any self-glorifying agenda; it is about service to our youths and the rallying point for all of us; it is about value reorientation and introducing a paradigm shift to the modus operandi of NYCN.”

He also emphasized on the need for mental reformation of the youth of Nigeria. “We have to change our mentality of being political hallelujah youths and selling our future for peanuts, to youths who are intellectuals and can use the intelligence to develop the general population of youths around him. We must refrain from the mundane Pull Him Down syndrome that is typical of the old, let's support each other to grow, that is when we can prove to the world that we are formidable.

“We will build on the institutional gains during my tenure to improve the lives of young people. We will build a new institution where necessary to protect rights and engender inclusion among all the youths of Nigeria.’’

The former president, Barrister Ugochinyere who is currently the National Spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties thanked the council for a memorable tenure and urged the new executives to ensure that they surpass his achievements. Apart from Comrade Oladele John Nihi, 13 other executive members were elected during the congress including Jimoh Oluwatobi Segun who now serves as the Council’s Public Relations Officer.

The meeting, which also had in attendance the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and other traditional rulers in the state, was held at the governor's office, secretariat, Ibadan.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Ayefele explained that he regretted not coming to meet the governor in person instead of sending some governor aides who allegedly failed to deliver his messages.

Mr Ayefele also described as untrue the claims that he did not respond to the letters served his radio station, noting that he had even began to take steps to revalidate the plan for the building before he got the demolition notice.

Reacting, Governor Ajimobi insisted that government did not have anything against Mr Ayefele or the radio station, but the building which had contravened the law.

Governor Ajimobi stated that what should be done now was to find ways of reconciling the issue, urging Mr Ayefele and management of the radio station to do the needful.

Meanwhile, our correspondent reports that the meeting continued between Mr Ayefele with some of his staff and officials of the state government after the governor took his leave.

However, attempt to interview Mr Ayefele after the meeting ended was unsuccessful as he refused to speak to newsmen.

A committee comprises of both parties has been set up to resolve the issue.

Politics / NEWS UPDATE: Ajimobi, Ayefele, In Closed-door Meeting Facilitated By Tegbe by alliyse(m): 6:24pm On Aug 23, 2018
Newspeakonline can confirm that Fresh FM boss, Yinka Ayefele has visited the Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi in his office today.

It was gathered that the meeting was facilitated by Joseph Tegbe, a governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressves Congress (APC) in Oyo State.

Tegbe led the musician and his team members into the Governor’s Office this afternoon.

Ayefele and his team members were still at Ajimobi’s office as at press time, waiting to meet with the governor over his Music House which was partially demolished on Sunday.

It is believed that the intervention of Tegbe and others involved in the move will help persuade the governor to soften his stance on the issue.

Ayefele has already approached the court on the crisis with hearing fixed for September 12, 2018.

Politics / The Untold Story Of IDP Camps - 'seyifunmi Adebote by alliyse(m): 1:11am On Aug 27, 2017
Poverty, hunger, sickness, regret, rape, sorrow, misery, wretchedness, death pool; these are probably what first comes to mind when you hear ‘IDP camp’. Well, that’s partly true, because that is what you see on the pages of the dailies, the screen of your television and the timeline/feeds on various social media platforms, maybe?

Having spent plenty of time in different IDP camps recently; a part of me agrees that the IDP camp is not a place to be, a part of me also agrees that comfort and health is a stranger, sometimes, most times actually. Nonetheless, a greater part of me is eager to share the untold story of the IDP camps – a place that is beyond just an enclave for refugees.

I am tempted to paint a picture. A picture of leaking 'batchers', of bare-footed, of scantily dressed children, of pregnant young girls, of despondent aged men. A picture of mothers, each with a baby on her back - nudging another for gift items from a relief agency. I am tempted to paint such sad picture, but I won’t. That’s if I haven’t.

An IDP camp is more.

It is a place for little children to hold hands happily and run through the green field without carrying the bitterness of who or what displaced them from their father’s land. It is a place for teenagers to learn skills like barbing, soap making, bead making, tailoring, cards making, catering/baking and every other profitable skills they have an opportunity to learn.

It is a place for young men to indeed let go of the past, to practice true forgiveness, to channel their energy productively, to restore their hope in Nigeria and to move on boldly with life. It is a place that reminds us of why we should promote harmony and the things that unite us over our differences or things that could divide us - if we permit. It is a place to listen to the stories of the elderly; stories that help us appreciate the priceless worth of peace over war or strife.

It is a place to remind us of patience, of courage, of contentment, of appreciation and the value of things we take for granted. It is a place of hope, even to strangers. It is a place to show a suicidal person two million reasons why it isn’t over, yet.

It is a place to volunteer one's self, to engaged unemployed youths, to share resources, to network with like-minds, to find one's purpose for living and to identify ways Nigeria can be rebuilt and become a nation we all can be proud of.

It is a place to inspire and be inspired too.

An IDP camp is a place to put together the broken bits of our lives - as individuals, as groups, and as a nation.

I don’t know what you think about an IDP camp, but I know there are untold stories about the IDP camps and other places of refuge, especially in Nigeria. And these stories can’t be told in just one article.

Romance / My Naija Lexicon: “booing Or Boo-ing?” by alliyse(m): 10:31pm On Apr 01, 2017

http://www.musespill.com.ng/2017/04/my-naija-lexicon-booing-or-boo-ing.html

Booing: According to Cambridge dictionary, present particle of "Boo" is "to make an expression of disagreement or disapproval". On the other hand, according to Naija dating dictionary coined by Slay Queens and Co, Boo means "to express love for your spouse by taking up marital responsibilities before marriage."

Boorriage (noun) “shares the same attributes of marriage. The difference is that the persons involved are not married but in a relationship”

Few days back, I was chatting with a friend on WhatsApp about my jobless state and how idleness was getting its toll on me. She sha started showing me pix of her boyfriend's house and told me that she had gone there to relax for a few days. One thing led to another and I indicated that I wasn't the only one jobless but that she was also jobless and guess what my sister told me. She said "I am not like you, I have a job". I want on to ask “what job?", guess her response? “Booing"

I have heard many things in this my life; but this one, was a mind blower for me. Until that day I didn't even know that the word existed in that context. I rushed to my dictionary; and lo and behold, it wasn't there. That was when it dawned on me. Her Booing was a coined slang, her own term for taking care of Boo.

The truth is I didn't have to ask her before I understood what she meant. Though we laughed it off and made a joke off it, it hit me that what she was doing wasn't different from what most girls do on a daily basis nowadays. In fact it has become a lifestyle. Before my very two koro koro eyes, I have seen many girls go to their boyfriend's house every day to cook, clean the house, wash dishes, clothes, everything washable and top it with satisfying Boo in bed. They have become wife, mother, maid and lover; all in one. When they get tired of commuting from their place to his place, they decide to move in and gbam!!! They become housewives even before their fingers smell an engagement ring.
Health / Not All Soot Are Black, Port Harcourt Must Act NOW - Wonne Afronelly by alliyse(m): 7:15pm On Feb 18, 2017
For the past few months, Rivers State has been experiencing Black soot - an environmental and health hazard. In this interview with Alli Abiola, Port Harcourt based Environmental advocate and CEO of Bliss Octanoprise International, BOI, Wonne Afonelly, weighs in on the deadly menace and advise for the Government and the citizens. Excerpts.

Soot, as we know is a major Environmental Hazard in the Society. Do you think Charcoal usage in the society adds to the hazards Port Harcourt is currently facing?

First of all, I'd love to use this medium to correct something I heard severally on some media stations in Port Harcourt, OAPs trying to correct participants who express their views on black soot, saying " there's no such thing as black soot, soot is black". I think 'being a professional OAP doesn't make one an Environmental Professional'. NOT ALL SOOT ARE BLACK

Soot is a term that describes particulate matter 2.5picometer:

Red soot is observed in exhaust tips of vehicles that use octane boosters which contain manganese or iron compounds
Brown soot is from burning of organic matter or particular wood species like the Pine or Beech wood. Brown soot during winter causes serious environmental hazards around the Indian ocean and South Asia
Black soot is caused by incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons especially black carbon compounds
The soot prevalent in Port Harcourt is the "black soot". To the question - I think charcoal usage contributes some soot but the quantity is almost negligible in Port Harcourt since Charcoal usage is more in the rural communities, but they have experienced little or no black soot since the past one month I've lived in one of the rural communities.

Few days ago, the newly inaugurated Environmental Task Force Shutdown a suspected company, is the Government on track?

They have since the task force was set up shut down 3 companies. I could say the government is on track to have plunged into action at all, the fears are that the root causes of the black soot may not be traced if actions are taken in a hurry. One wonders what methods were utilized by government before concluding and shutting down these companies. What regulatory limits are set according to Environmental Impact Assessment (e.g. EPA proposes to change set tolerance limit by Clean Air Act at 15 micrograms per cubic meter of air to 12 & 13micrograms by year 2020); what are the limits of soot dischargeable into the environment, how far were these limits exceeded? If these facts are known then it makes it better to checkmate other companies in the future.

What do you advise to be done by the people or organization while the Government still uncovers solution to the Hazard?

Like I'd always reiterate that "Environmental Hazards are not just a Government problem but The People problem"; I'd advise everyone to support Government in every ways possible. Look out for different types and colours of smoke and report to appropriate quarters.

Here's a guide:

- On cold days the smoke is white; due to moisture content and therefore looks like steam but in hotter climates, the smoke is black showing the carbon and ash clearly;

- Light grey smoke is observed in fire from things that easily burn like paper, cardboard

- Brown smoke is observed in fire from Wood, a sign that it's starting to burn

- Darker Grey smoke shows content is seriously burning

- Black smoke is observed in noxious items when burnt like plastics, synthetics, paints, fuel oils etc.

- These differences in colours of smoke is caused by a combination of what is burned and how completely it is being burnt.

- Completeness of Combustion is controlled primarily by Oxygen supply.

QUESTION

What kind/colour of soot do you get when burning grass or wood: white, brown, grey or black? Clue: Not Every Soot Is Black!

In what way do you think the government can solve Environmental Hazards?

The Government of Rivers state and any other state can tackle Environmental hazards by - First setting tolerance limits according to UNEP and WHO standards, if possible edicts that suit the state based on level of industrialization, secondly - setting up a 24hour active Regulatory and Monitoring team, (not task force only when a hazard is posing serious threats), thirdly -implementing these laws by ensuring defaulters ( irrespective of political affiliations) pay full penalties all the time, even before shutting down, fourthly - sensitize it's citizens regularly about environmental laws, collaborate with other stakeholders and teach them their roles especially during a hazard as the black soot.

What do you think are the causes of Environmental Hazards?

Some causes of Environmental hazards are (but not limited to) – degraded biodiversity, deforestation, overpopulation, improper waste disposal, amongst others etc.

As an environmental advocate, to what extent will the ‘Soot’ have on the health and well-being of the citizens in the society?

To a large extent, (the black soot if all sources are not traced and stopped); the damage to the well-being and health of Port Harcourt residents and neighbouring states would be irreparable as it would not only affect those who experience it now but may also affect unborn generations especially with soots that contain PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) which are highly carcinogenic. Research in America as at 2013 showed that many premature deaths are directly related to soot in the environment - about 20,000 premature deaths annually. More so, a 2012 study has also shown that fine particles 2.5PM are linked to more low weight babies in 22 developing countries including China, India, Nigeria, Nepal and Peru.

What are your advices to the Government on Waste eradication in the community?

The best solution to waste eradication in any system is to make everyone responsible and pay for waste generated, that way, most persons would be careful about how much waste they generate daily. They would get to understand the 4Rs of Waste Management, (and they include): Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Recover energy.

Every state should have at least 2 recycling plants and set up waste management agencies in each Local Government Area.

BOI has over the last two years advocated clean and secured environment. What are the challenges of BOI as an Environmental advocate?

A major challenge of BOI in Environmental advocacy is the unfriendly approach/response of major stakeholders of the environment to support and partner with the program if possible. We have had bank managers tell us that the areas we want to clean up were not defaced by them. We have also had Broadcast Media stations tell us bluntly, "nobody cares about what happens in or to the environment, we can't give you airtime, nobody would listen, would be a waste".

What else has BOI been up to recently?

BOI through its Environment Advocacy Project is now partnering with Educational Institutions (Primary and Secondary schools) in raising volunteers and advocates for the environment. We have also taken the campaign to Grassroots communities; certain projects in the pipeline would be unveiled before the end of the first half of 2017. Thank you

Crime / How Instagram User Robbed Us Of Almost N50,000 by alliyse(m): 8:56pm On Jan 06, 2017
Losing your hard earn cash to an online fraudster is pretty discouraging and this seems to be on the rise in recent times particularly with the advent of product sales on platforms like Twitter and Instagram.

Only if my colleague, Catherine, who was recently duped of a huge sum of money knew this, maybe I wouldn't have to write this. Before I share with you some vital things you must ensure before your next transaction, let me share with you - Catherine's story and how she Was Duped via Instagram.

How Catherine Was Duped via Instagram

Just like every trendy lady, Catherine got attracted by some clothes on display by an hoax instagram user Platonic Wear Boutique @platonic_wear_boutique, the price was quite cheap that Catherine immediately had a BBM chat with the seller, her response were quite convincing so two bank transfers were made to Idowu Eniola Joy GT Bank.

Minutes later the BBM pin was blocked, same with Whatsapp, calls to the supposed 'customer care' line (09055206680) didn't get picked and it's been incommunicado ever since.

What We Found Out.

Interestingly, others have been sorted by this same user, some of them just like Catherine was e-robbed of thousands of Naira and remember this is 20recession. One of the victims claimed she paid over N25,000 into this account details Ogunyemi Tomiwa 2079779298 UBA, which we discovered is handled by this same Platonic Wear Boutique handler on instagram. The fraudster also runs other hoax handle like Cute Treading Colletionz @cute_trending_colletionz (which is no longer available)
Now, these are some signs that an Instagram account could be fake, how do you spot one.

Aftermath of Being Duped

Several days after being duped even years, there will be loss of trust even with a recognized brand. According to Catherine, “Up till now, i hadn’t restocked my makeup products because am skeptical about trusting anyone again. I wanted to stock my box for the New Year celebration; imagine, I had to start (double) checking the detail of my regular makeover agent again. What duping can do!”

How to Spot Fake Instagram Account

1. Profile photo doesn't look really; often it shows a pretty girl or boy.

2. The account has unrealistic photo gallery with only few photos in it. Sometimes it's full of selfies, but somehow the person in the selfie doesn't match the person in the profile photo Or the gallery is full of beautiful photographs that look like they have been shot professionally, but if you read the bio, it says a completely different narrative (professional photographer normally says about their passion and their job in the bio).

3. You can also check when the photos in the gallery were posted, if they have been posted roughly at the same day, then it's one of the signs that they have been uploaded by a bot.

4. The numbers of followers far exceed the number of followings. (Scammer do buy followers these days oooo)

5. Check the first photo in the gallery to ascertain when it was posted, if it's just recently then it could mean that it's a new account. Combine with the numbers of followers it starts to be suspicious.

Way Forward

Are We saying sales of products online are bad? Hell no. It may be quite and extra caution is demanded especially with unpopular sellers.

Science/Technology / The Impact Of Social Media To Digital Broadcasting, With Regards To Radio And TV by alliyse(m): 12:08pm On Nov 03, 2016
The fact that the impact of social media to broadcasting (radio and TV) has been a mixed of blessing and a disgrace to the world cannot be overemphasized. When we say social media in this age, what comes readily to the mind is what we have reduced social media to - our various 'chatting' sites which tends to limit the scope of what social media is all about.

Social media can be said to be a form of electronic communication (as websites for social networking and micro-blogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other contents (such as audio and videos).

Basically, we are in tune if it is concluded that social media is a broadcasting tool which aids the TV and radio broadcasts. That said, it means this current age has given unto us all easy way of accessing information as soon as it is disseminated once the right factors are put in place.
It also comes with a certain ease and relieve on the knowledge that we do not need to reschedule and reorganise our daily living to fit into the time for the news either on the TV or the radio as the case may be.

Furthermore, social media in respect to broadcasting has helped in building a bridge between the source and the recipient as there is room for immediate reaction from the people without any encumbrance or special procedure.

In other concise words, it can be said that the positive sides of social media in radio and TV broadcast for the purpose of this write has been streamlined into three basic points which are:

•limitless access to the news for all
•time and location considerate. i.e places more stringent rules as to when and where the news can be accessed
•ability of the public to react to the news without stress.

In addition to the above, it is noteworthy that social media has been a mixed blessing to this age. As much as it is canvassed that social media has made life easy, it has also caused obvious harm to the sanity and sanctity of most people.

First to note in this category is the misconception that may be brewed from reading and implying more to what the source has to pass across as seen in the trending misconception of Pastor Sam Adeyemi's point on mental illness or a reduction in the value of information to be passed on. Another is the fact that whilst going about the news, we peddle this misconception to those without access to these information, thereby misinforming them and deforming what is left of what was made right in their sanity.

Finally, what I tag the greatest of the ills of social media in respect to TV and radio broadcast is that many still remain uninformed despite their accessibility to social media. Other things sociable enough with a stronger pull has the greater advantage over articles of the news. Majority (of the youth) will rather see a leaked tape rather than see AIT's Focus Nigeria or ChannelTV’s Daily with the same value of data.

In simpler words, we can say the negatives for the purpose of this write include:

- reduction of facts or inclusion of fallacies thereby brewing misconceptions in the public.
-misinformation of the rest of the public with no access to the media
- the failure of the information in informing those with access to the media.

It won't be wrong to infer that the ratio of the negative impact may be influenced to a great deal if appropriate measures are not taken.

The simplest way to correct this error is a reorientation of the public with access to social media, ironically, through the social media. This is achievable by doing it in skits and bits till the message revolves.

Events / @AIESEC Youthspeak Forum: The Exploration Of A Visitor’s Experience by alliyse(m): 11:35pm On Oct 01, 2016
Editor’s Note: Nigerian Youth Speak Forum 2016 themed – Leading Transformational Change In Nigeria held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Glory View Hotel, Bodija Housing Estate, Ibadan. The Forum which is a phase of “The Youth for Global Goals (Y4GG)” is an initiative of AIESEC as its contribution towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Y4GG other phases include: YouthSpeak Survey, YouthSpeak Insights, and the YouthSpeak Project.

Opetu Ebibote, a young writer was part of the occasion and she opens up her thoughts about the event which happens to be her first.

You have got to agree with me, for a seminar that I had barely prepared for because I thought that it would be just like any other seminar; a total lack of interest is justified. This was the picture that came to mind, few hours listening to old boring people narrating long stories about their achievements without really teaching us how they got there. Little did I know that I was in for a big surprise. Truth be told, there were old people who talked about their achievement and there were times when I almost did fall asleep. But at the end of the day, all I thought was anyone who missed it, missed out on a whole lifetime opportunity.

The gathering that met my eye rooted my feet to the ground. I wouldn’t have called it a crowd but it was sure more than I expected. I was lost when I got in (late though)and heard the event compere shouting "AIESEC"and theecstatic audience replied “What’s up!!!”. At first I didn’t understand - “what was up” but after the program I did. The forum was an extension of a three day seminar that was organized for AIESEC members across the country. I was told before my arrival, that AIESEC is a non-governmental organization that has its main focus on the empowerment of youths. But if I were to describe AIESEC, I would say, "AIESEC isn’t just an organization - it is a society with a culture of its own."First of all, they had a distinctive mode of greeting which baffled me and when they got angry, instead of the usual response of “What’s up”, they replied the speaker’s call with“sounds like shit”. Next was the presentation of seminars. Theirs wasn’t the usual motivational speeches delivered by highly paid motivational speakers. Members of the alumni engaged the participants in different interactive sessions after a series of lectures on “transformational change”. This scenario created the mental picture of a father or mother nurturing their children.

The program went on smoothly and though it was business oriented, there was a little shower of pleasure. It wasn’t only about the long doses of seriousness but also the little pills of laughter that seemed to set the mind at ease. The organizers kept in mind that though the program was designed to make the country a happy one in the future, efforts had to be made to ensure that the participants were happy even with the present state of things. They kept into proper use, the saying “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. The program was a fusion of work and play. It got more exciting during the break when some of the participants went to the front of the hall and began a group dance. The sight of feet moving to the left and right; and hands swinging forward and backward; made me burst out in laughter where I was seated. At that moment, one could barely think of the problems that plagued the country, problem for which we had gathered todevelop a solution. All that came to mind was the sound of the hip hop music blasting through the speakers, the comical steps of dancers who didn’t really know how to dance and the feeling that 'all is well.'

However, it didn’t end there. After the second session of seminars and conversations with the panelists, there was a break for lunch. Sitting down all day had weakened me and all I wanted to do was go home but I was stopped in my tracks. The DJ, thinking of ways to keep the audience busy played different clips from Britain Got Talents and for minutes my eyes were glued to the screen oblivious of the world around me, and again for the second time, we did not think of the problems that defaced our country instead we concentrated deeply on the wonders that others could perform with their talents.

At a point, I felt so out of place and bored that I prayed that the program would end but then came what I call the enlightenment stage. A stage that explained what AIESEC is or should I say who she is, heraims, her achievements and most importantly her work in progress. Believe me, nothing could be more inspiring than a young guy standing in front of you telling you about his global company and how he started it with a zero naira plan. He was among the members of the alumni. The first speaker mentioned names of people who had once sat in AIESEC meetings and now where making their mark on the walls of time. As a lady,it is normal that the young guys who were part of the panelist would interest me. But this time, it wasn’t the beauty of the Italian suit or the nice pair of jeans or the dazzling native fabric on beautiful dark skin that caught my fancy. It was the fact that young guys like that had started making history no matter how little we may think it is.

There in attendance were also other organizations that were geared towards not just the empowermentof youths but adults as well. It was really impressive that AIESEC reached out to other non-governmental organizations that could make better, the life of their members and 'stumblers' like me. A representative from one.org stepped to the podium and created awareness about the NGO. There were health facts that were to be learnt, the encouragement to read about the happenings in the country and ways in which they served as voice to people deprived of good health care. In giving a voice to these people, they recorded their lives and made it available to the whole world to see the trauma they were made to pass through. Some might disagree to this but what amused me about this organization was the petition we were asked to write. On the card was written “To President Buhari. I wondered how my thoughts on what is right or wrong can change the situation of things in the country. The fact that I wasn’t a believer of such made it hard for me to humour them.

Despite the major highlights, nothing was much more fun than the opportunity to meet with different people and share ideas with people of like minds. Though I felt too out of place to leave my seat, and therefore could not interact as I would have loved to; nevertheless, I still met a few people and just the thought of exchanging ideas was more exciting than words can describe. For the first time since almost a year of my knowing him, I met a friend yesterday. The forum served as a platform for ourmeeting. If anything could be erased from my memory, the ideas that were birthed in that forum while discussing with my friend, could never be erased. It was really interesting that these members were not only hearers of the word but were also doers. There were different little organizations that were advertizing different products. One contact I would never forget was when a lady walked up to me with stickers in her hands. At firstglance, the stickers were barely noticed because of the unique design of the cloth she was putting on. I was wowed when she told me it was hand sewn. But that is not the lesson I learnt the stickers in her hands read vision 2020. I didn’t see it as Important so I didn’t buy it. Later on, I was admonished by 'my friend' who stated clearly that no matter how little it was, she was effecting a change in her life financially.

So, departure for me came with mixed feelings. Though I would have loved to stay I was tired of seating for hours. But the major thingis I went disinterested but I left empowered to take necessary steps in changing my future and this article is a proof.

Maybe, I'll tell you more about my friend in the coming days, first, let me put to practice a little out of the much I've learnt at YouthSpeak Forum2016.

Literature / I Will Love To Visit Western Africa - Katarina West by alliyse(m): 7:06pm On Dec 21, 2015
Katarina West, an Italian based novelist with 2 novels (Witchcraft Couture and Absoloute Truth For Beginners) to her credit, in this interview with Itsallisay Blog, bares her mind on the inspiration behind her stories, her love for Africa as she teases on her 3rd novel, The Thousand Tiny Miracles of Living Twice, scheduled for launching in December 2016, amongst other issues.

Excerpts

Let’s Meet You

Hi Alli, or ciao, as they say in Italy! Lovely to meet you.

What inspires your stories?

It can be anything and everything, from movies and newspaper articles to ideas and art. I rarely take my inspiration from real life. I have an idea, sometimes really vague, and I start from there.

When did you started writing?

When I was about nine or ten. I’ve always told stories. To myself, or to anyone who cared to listen.

What are the challenges you face when writing a story?

Interesting question. It depends which manuscript version we’re talking about. If it’s the first one, just about everything is a challenge. But even afterwards, characters remain an overall challenge. To understand them, to develop them in the right direction. Also, keeping the plot polished, and well-structured, is always a challenge.

It seems like Agents of Altruism wasn't a success, or was it that you didn't push it as you did for Witchcraft Couture.

It was an academic book, and the logic behind writing an academic book is different. Usually – unless it is being used as a course book in universities – only a handful of other people read the research you’ve done. So you publish those kind of books because they will remain in your CV, or because they will open doors to you, or because they will put you in contact with other people. But you don’t promote academic books the same way you would promote fiction.

What is your view and philosophy about life and magic?

You know what, Alli? You must ask me this after forty years! Because I still haven’t written enough to answer that question. And for me, writing is the only way to get viable answers.

What was the motivation behind your last book - Witchcraft Couture?

To talk about an artist who suffered from creative blocks, and in a way that I could use the Finnish mythology Kalevala, which inspired me.

Quoting from WItchcraft Couture - “I drink coffee in gallons and it is just as indispensable for my work as paper and pencils". What brand of coffee do you love?

Lavazza. It’s an Italian brand. My stomach has been Italianized – I can only drink Italian coffee.

Quoting one of your previous comments - The response from Witchcraft Couture was absolutely wonderful, and it gave me plenty of inspiration to finish my second novel, will the response of Absolute Truth for Beginner determine if you'll write another or not?

As it happens, I’m already writing my next novel. It’s a story about angels and destiny and having it all – in your second life. It is called The Thousand Tiny Miracles of Living Twice, and coming out in December 2016.

What if you wake to discover that you are obsessively addicted to literature?

What a wonderful addiction! Amazon would probably love that.

What else do we don't know about Katarina West?

My car is named Rocco, after the boxer Rocco in Visconti’s film. It’s a Suzuki jeep, but I’m sure that it has a soul, and it can read and write too! How well I understand those men who polish their cars on sunny Sunday mornings. I’d do it too, if I had some more time.

Was there any other thing you vowed to be when you were much younger, apart from being a writer that you're yet to do?

Yes, I wanted to become an aid worker. Hence, ‘Agents of Altruism’ and a doctorate on that field. But Life decided differently, and I remained in Italy, and became a novelist.

What else do you do apart from writing?

We live in a farmhouse where there is always something to do. Mowing, repairing, cleaning, fixing, feeding the animals. Apart from writing and family and country life, there really isn’t much more time left.

You once said that - It’s the excessive caffeine intake that makes you design well. Is Katarina considering art in pictures aside from words?

I used to paint. I even studied in Florence Academy of Fine Arts for a very short period of time. But if I must choose between words and art, I choose words, any time.

At what point would you consider someone or yourself a failed author?

Define it – what is a ‘failed author’? Isn’t that just a perception, impossible to measure in any possible way? So if you think you’re a failure, then you are a failure. Even if your books are bestsellers.

Mentorship is very important in one's quest to the literary world, who are your mentees and do you have mentors?

I wouldn’t say I have mentors, but I do have contacts with fellow authors, and their support and encouragement means the world to me.

How do you relax?

I go for a walk in the forest with my dog.

You really have interest in Languages, if you were to pick one African language. Which would it be?

Oh, it would be Swahili, for sure. I even studied it for a brief period of time in Zanzibar. I lived with a local family, and they were so hospitable and kind to me that it was almost embarrassing. In the morning, for example, no one showered before I had showered, because they wanted to make sure that I – the guest – got some hot water. No, they were just so generous. And yes, I still remember some words in Swahili. Like, ninasema Kiswahili kidogo? Did I get that right? It’s a great language, so precise, like my own mother tongue Finnish.

Which African country would you love to visit and why?

There are so many! But I’ve never been to Western Africa. I’d like to see that part of Africa.

On a final note, what is your advise to upcoming authors?

Read and write, as much as you can, and every day, if you can. Plus don’t give up. As long as you keep writing, you can’t get lost.

Career / 3 Ways You Can Identify, Develop, And Leverage Your Greatest Skills by alliyse(m): 11:09pm On Oct 16, 2015
This article is a tangent to one of Brian Kim's previous article, How to Find What You Love to Do. Finding your skills is a crucial component of doing that, so I wanted to write something that would delve a bit deeper into that particular subject.

Before we can leverage our greatest skills, we must first identify them.

How to Identify, Develop, and Leverage Your Greatest Skills

When I look at how we can identify and classify our skills, I see them categorized in three different ways. They include:

1. Talents
2. Developed Skills
3. Potential Skills

1.Talents

Talents are natural skills; arguably the best kind to have. What I specifically mean by talent is a natural ability to perform an activity extremely well.

You probably know a great number of people in your social circle who are blessed with certain talents. Maybe they’re really good at playing piano, or they draw exceptionally well, or they have an amazing voice. It’s easy to tell because we can clearly see the talents in others.

Here’s the ironic part.

We can clearly see the talents in others, but we cannot clearly see it in ourselves.

Most people don’t recognize their talents because they are so natural at it that it becomes second nature to them. To give you a dramatic example, let’s assume that walking in a straight line is as much of a talent as having the voice of the greatest singer in the world (bear with me). You, who can walk in a straight line without any struggle will think that it’s as common as breathing, whereas the majority of people who walk like they’re drunk, view your straight walking as something remarkable, even if you personally don’t. It’s because your talents come so easily to you and produce great results that you don’t even think of them as remarkable. It often takes somebody from the outside looking in to point them out to you.

This is where feedback from external sources plays such a crucial role. If you are a parent, friend, or teacher, you have the responsibility of identifying what your children, or your friend, or your student’s talents are. You should be the one to point out to them what they’re naturally good at and encourage them to develop those talents because they won’t know if you don’t tell them.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that your talent has to be something “tangible”. We’ve been conditioned to only think of talent as something we can only see on stage, such as being a good singer, dancer, or piano player.

Most of the time you’ll find your talents to be something “intangible” such as getting along with people, or figuring out how things work and fixing them, or being able to clearly get your ideas across to people.

Looking at your talents is the first place you should look to in order to identify your greatest skills.

So how can we go about identifying them?

How to Identify Your Greatest Skills

Asking yourself the following questions may help identify what you’re talented in.

a. When growing up, what did people tell you had a knack for?
b. What were you always recognized for?
c. What do you amaze others by doing?
d. What can you do that most people struggle with?
e. What are others telling you that you are great at doing?

When you get some answers, take them through the following questions.

i. Do you get into a “flow” when engaging in that particular activity?
ii. Do you have a deep desire to become better at it?
iii. Do you admire people who engage in that activity and do it well?

The first set of questions is to get you to realize the talents you possess that you might think as ordinary, but others see as extraordinary.

When you get a list of answers and take them through the second set of questions, that’s just to verify if your talent has the potential to become much more than it already is.

If so, you’ve got a winner.

2. Developed Skills

These are skills that are learned via education or experience, in other words, they are acquired skills. A very simple example of a developed skill is typing. You probably acquired it in school when you had to type up papers for class. You constantly did it and now you’re a pro at it. Another example of a developed skill is cooking. You could have went to culinary school and got education and experience in that field, which resulted in developing the skill of cooking.

Developed skills can also be the result of high interest in a particular hobby, subject, or field. For example, reading can be a developed skill if you have a high enough interest in it. If you’re interested in reading, you’ll find you’ll be reading a ton during your free time and since you do it often, you become so much better at it that it turns into a skill naturally.

This brings us to potential skills.

3. Potential Skills

These skills are ones that haven’t yet turned into full blown “developed skills”, but have the potential to do so, hence the name. These potential skills are often found seeded in subjects of high interests. If you have a high enough interest in let’s say playing chess, that you play it online frequently, play it with your friends, buy books on it, memorize strategies, join clubs, etc., then playing chess can become a developed skill over time.

How to Develop and Leverage Your Greatest Skills

First off, in order to develop and leverage your skills, you should start off with your strongest skills, namely your talents. Starting off with your talents is like starting to climb to the top of Mt. Everest from the middle of the mountain instead of the bottom. It bypasses the time associated with the learning curve of that skill, plus, you’re leveraging something that you’re naturally strong at.

The majority of people don’t do this. They first develop skills that are independent of their natural talents and then try to leverage that. They do this because they haven’t discovered their natural talents in the first place. That’s like jumping down from the middle of Mt. Everest and trying to climb your way back up from the bottom. If a helicopter dropped you on the middle of the mountain, don’t waste that head start. Use that head start and start climbing from there. Don’t try to develop skills that aren’t conducive to your natural talents. That’s working backwards. Work from within FIRST.

You see, when you use your talents as a foundation, that will guide you to subjects that are related to your talent, which will then result in developed skills and specialized knowledge that complement your talents.

For example, let’s say you have a natural talent for drawing. Your natural talent for drawing leads to an interest in the subject of comic books, namely superhero comic books. Then you start developing skills that are conducive to your talents and interests. You start messing around with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator (computer software for drawing) and become a pro at it. You also start to develop specialized knowledge on superhero comic books in terms of knowing what makes a good superhero comic book and what doesn’t because you’ve read so many of them.

Your natural talent for drawing led to an interest in superhero comic books, which led to developed skills of computer drawing and specialized knowledge of superhero comic books.

Because this person had correctly identified his strongest skills and developed them, he can leverage them to make a career out of drawing comic books or maybe even start his own.

The point I’m trying to make here is to look within yourself first in order to stack a strong foundation by identifying your talents. Don’t make the mistake of looking outside yourself to develop skills that have nothing to do with what you’re naturally good at, because then you would be robbing yourself of a good head start.

Going back to the example of the talented artist, he shouldn’t be trying to learn skills that have nothing to do with drawing such as accounting. Yet, that’s what many people do. They hear from their professors and friends that accounting is going to be the next hot job in demand so they study that. They disregard their talents and focus on a skill that has nothing to do with what they’re naturally good at and they wonder why they feel so empty and frustrated at their accounting job (nothing against accountants).

This happens to people who have not identified their talents, or blatantly disregard their talents. I say identify your talents and develop them. Don’t disregard them. Embrace them. They are your gifts. They are your superpowers so to speak. They can be found within each and every one of us. We are all Clark Kents. It’s just that some discover their powers and develop them to the point where they’re useful, whereas others are content to be “Clark Kent” and live life wishing they can be somebody else. We all have talents. It’s your responsibility to become aware of them, develop them, and to leverage them.

What I want to say in the final analysis is to first look within yourself to see what your natural talents are and build off of that. When you identify what your natural talents are, you’ll see how that influences your choice of subjects and interests and when you find something you’re really interested in, that can lead to developed skills and specialized knowledge that complement your natural talents. Only in this way will you be able to develop and leverage your strongest skills to their fullest extent.

Music/Radio / Who Deserves Credit For A Hit Song, The Music Producer Or The Artiste? by alliyse(m): 9:03am On Oct 10, 2015
A lot of factors come to play on this subject matter about who is appropriately deserving for the credits to a hit song, whether it is the music producer or the artiste. The way our industry operates, it is undecided, the strings that determine the hit status of a song.

It goes beyond just having panache vocals, a popularly known producer giving mad beats and Suka Sounds in the mix. There’s even songs that never saw the light of the charts simply because no proper hype was attached to it, notwithstanding the fact that it checked all the right boxes. In some shores outside of here, songwriters even demand music credits as part of their rights considering they’re the ones responsible for the lyrical framework.

More times than not, when a song becomes a hit, the artiste is extolled for his (or her) level of genius exuded on the track and so for the purpose of this post, I shall be focusing on the two parties involved in making the music (sounds), which has largely become the basis for our judgment – the artiste and the music producer. In furtherance to adjudging this matter, it will be noteworthy to always consider the prominence of both artiste and producer, their technical knowledge of their art (singing and music production) as well as the hit songs in question.

Read Also: Subjective Poetic Analysis Of Olamide's 'Shakiti Bobo' – By Tola Bolaji
Let me start with Don Jazzy (I bet you already guessed it), his heavy involvement in music matters not only brought him to the forefront of affairs but has kept him as a constant front row player, which continues to set him apart from his colleagues in the industry. This also explains why almost everyone wants to get him on their track because his records speak volumes. Is it Korede Bello or Dr Sid, even D’Prince, Di’Ja and then Reekado Banks?

The trend stays consistent as he continues to churn out hit productions for his Mavin crew. I obviously won’t forget to mention D’Banj and Wande Coal, and how their different paths have swiveled since severing ties with Don Jazzy.

Cobhams is another producer whose art is equally vested in the music. His trend isn’t any different and that’s why Timi Dakolo, Dare Art Alade, Bez especially haven’t looked else where since realizing he had already developed a penchant for making their individual magic tick. Even Banky W, when he feels pressed to go back to his roots, he looks no further than Cobhams.

Samklef would be the producer that founded the Wizkid sound and tailored it into some level of consistency. Back then, you hear Wizkid and you just think… “this is Samklef!” The excuse now is that Wizzy’s sound has gone international, yet there’s that Samklef fine-tune in Wizkid’s songs that we really used to love but no longer get anymore since he parted ways with him for good.

Could I possibly forget OJB and J. Martins? Never! These two are responsible for a large amount of hits from the early to mid millennial era. And their discography covers works from 2face Idibia, Ruggedman, D’Banj, Wizkid, Durella, Goldie, Resonance, Yemi Alade, Waje, P-Square, Flavour and Bracket (just to mention a few) respectively. OJB is that guy whose production launched a fine crop of today’s a-list artistes into fame and J. Martins has never relented in well-doing since since. Many artistes owe these two real big!

There’s also Masterkraft, Tee-Y Mix, Pheelz, D’Tunes, Young John, DJ Coublon and their likes who amidst the tight monopolistic turfs associated with the industry, they still shone through like diamonds from their rough to stealing seats at the high table and eventually becoming the most sought after producers of today. Alternatively, there are instances with some producers where the artiste has succeeded in building a personality that will always overshadow the producer’s works.

This is evident with the likes of Selebobo and Shizzi whose stellar works can be tied to unarguably Africa’s best artistes, Yemi Alade and Davido. No matter how epoch their inputs are in the music, we might never really get past overlooking Ms Alade and Davido to herald their producers solely for the genius work done on their records. Leriq suffered this feat with Burna Boy as with Del’B who still experiences same with Chidinma, Flavour, Wizkid and even Kcee.

For those of us conversant with industry trends, you must have noticed that more producers are turning artistes in a bid to fight this anomaly. Those with vocal prowess have taken to singing while others who have crafted a signature sound, task themselves with doing collabos. Oh, I just remembered Sarz now. He was quite the bad guy then and calling the shots. Although he remains respected but he is hardly ever remembered seeing as he has almost fizzled out into oblivion now. The thought is indeed very painful.

Thankfully, this isn’t an ill that has befallen only us here in Nigeria, it’s a global fight that has been on for decades. Producers all over the world are not duly recognized or well appreciated for their efforts and contributions to building the industry. This would explain the movie “Straight Outta Compton” starring Dr Dre, Ice Cube and a couple other international producers trying to pass a message across although from a racial angle but we get the big picture. Some producers never get any attention and the little recognition a few others get, is sometimes not even enough.

Now, they have all resorted to lacing their sound tags on every production they ever laid their hands on by a means of announcing themselves (and their works) to the world. Will that ever be enough? Obviously not. Even if it’ll suffice on the interim, how long really will it last?

It’s over to you guys… care to join me speculate?

NYSC / Abuse Of NYSC Uniform By Adebote Mayowa by alliyse(m): 6:39pm On Oct 06, 2015
A man is only called a priest when he wears the priestly garment and same is true for a lawyer, his wig identifies and defines him. Uniforms are of important significance much more than we merely think of.

Let’s consult a dictionary, “Uniform: distinctive clothing identifying the wearer as a member of an organization or group” that’s according to the Oxford Dictionary. Sometimes last year, a man on mufti confronted me, I simply refuse to regards him, though he was an officer but by virtue of the fact that he couldn’t be recognized as a military personnel judging by his casual outfit neither by an identity card. As I drove on, he furthered threatened me but I insisted that he had no right to do so at that time.

That was brave of me, right? Yes, especially in our beloved country- Nigeria. The knots tied around uniform and how it has been abused reminds me of a friend’s story. On May 2015, while returning from NYSC orientation camp, Kaduna; a group of uniformed men waved down their vehicle, they were fully kitted in military uniform, so no one would have suspected these were thieves. The driver had obediently parked the vehicle by the road blocks when they shot into the air and ransacked everyone and everything possible.

Uniform might continually be abused by the average Nigerian, especially in densely populated area with more illiterates but controlling it isn’t an alien thought. Last week, I went visiting a friend in one of the local governments in Kaduna state; we had not slept deep into the night when we heard villagers roar around 1 AM but remained bottled in the room till daybreak when the news was made public.

A young man had bulged into the house of a former commissioner to rob, that wasn’t the news; it was a corps member. That was the impression the entire village since he was putting on the complete NYSC uniform 7/7 as it is usually called, further research confirmed that the thief only disguised as a corps member. The abuse of the National Youth Service Corps uniform has sadly been on the increase. Oftentimes, I see young out-of-school children, hawkers, drug addicts, mechanics and other categories of people putting on the NYSC uniform. If the needful is not done in good time to nib this ugly act in the bud, the love enjoyed by genuine youth corps members would grow into hatred especially, in the rural areas.

"It is a show of faith in a brand reality that a retired military officer will never contemplate in the name of demonstration of charity to give out his military uniform to his brother or any member of the society who has not passed through military training like it has become the norm of giving out of NYSC uniform to none Corp members by ex-Corp members! In the grove of showing benevolence to the needy, ex-Corp give out their used NYSC uniform to none Corps members"

This, like Hon Patrick would call is sardonic and lugubrious,it is a ”paraplegic crinkum-crankum the act of these corp members which exposes serving corp members to threats, danger and risk to the collective security of serving Corp members and should be collectively frowned at by those who understand the purpose of the scheme and the criteria necessary for one to be found worthy to put on the uniform.

It is absolutely necessary the governing body of the NYSC carry out a sensitization workshop to warn Corp members who have a heart or who intend to demonstrate such charity to desist from it and also back up such sensitization with stringent laws to prosecute those found wanting even after the service year.

It is the same reason of brand faithfulness that the military prevent the civilian populace from putting on it camouflage and it won’t be wrong if the NYSC scheme toes the same line of thought in action

Politics / Dear U.S, We Need Entrepreneurship Skills Not Money By James Ademuyiwa by alliyse(m): 6:23pm On Oct 06, 2015
"Hehehehhheieiiehehoooggoggogohhoo"

That was my laugh pattern when I got the news that "Federal Government gets $2.3bn US assistance to fight poverty. Classical bullshit. *smh*

You are giving monetary support to a country who is capable of feeding its citizens for a whole year without them working and the treasury will still be smiling. Only that the country is unfortunate to have been ill-fated in the hands of faithful marauders.

US, know this, the money a corrupt governor of a state in Nigeria embezzles every month is more than that stipend you are proud of. Don't be surprised if you find out we know it's a decision of the American big brothers to explore our lands in future like your British supposed sacrificial lambs.

If you want to assist us, give us technical know how as a support to the wealth of our natural resources, and stop over using the demerits of your Modernization policies.

Wait! What's your definition of poverty? Oh! You are looking at the Northern part of Nigeria to judge us? I'm sorry if that comprises your definition of it. Well, I would say you are the one suffering from the mother of poverty called GREED. The day you stop unnecessary meddling in the issues of countries in order to explore their wealth's and be contented with what you have, then you would be called rich.

Don't forget, one of your famous song writers (Dolly Patton) once said "one is only poor only if they choose to be". We don't accept we are poor, we are only unfortunate not to have technical know how so, if you want to help, look into the right direction, meanwhile we would prefer China.

Learn from the Chinese advice that "Go to the people; live among them, learn from them, love them; serve them, plan with them; start with what they know, and build on what they have".

Finally, a note to Mr President, if they now decide to go the ways of the Chinese, be on the lookout, they might want to deceive us like the days in yore, to start exploring or neocolonize us. Remember to make them subjects under Nigerian supervisors during their stay on motherland.

Let no black man receive orders like Solomon Northrup in his 12 years, let there be mutual relationship ordered by humanity and let Nigerians be ready to be independent mentally.

Science/Technology / These 3 Apps Can Help You Detect Unknown Callers by alliyse(m): 6:12pm On Oct 04, 2015
In the past, there was no mobile application for detecting unknown calls or blocked numbers. These numbers could keep bugging your phone until the battery runs out which can be frustrating.

However, with advancement in technology and development of different applications, there are apps that can be used to identify unknown callers. This has decreased the number of spam as well as telemarketing calls received by many of individuals.

1. Truecaller

This is a widely used application for identifying unknown callers and blocking unwanted calls. If an anonymous number calls you and if your phone is data compliant, the app immediately reveals the name of the caller.

You can also use the app to search for numbers in Truecallers database which stores thousands of numbers. In addition, you are informed of anyone who searches for you or your number.

2. Trapcall

Trapcall will help you ‘unmask’ the caller identity of any hidden incoming call. Some of the features of the app include unwanted calls, record your calls as well as blacklisting any number that disturbs you. It is available for download for iPhone and android phones for free.

3. Whowho

This is another convenient way of blocking undesired calls. With the app, you are able to manage your contacts thus, making it easy to locate phone numbers and make calls as soon as possible. Like other applications, Whowho can help users’ record information they desire.

It has a total of 50,000,000 calls blocked globally and it is available in 30 countries in 6 continents.

Science/Technology / Please Help Me! This Is Urgent And I Count On You! by alliyse(m): 2:04pm On Aug 26, 2015
I really need help and you have to do something!

Every day I get lots and lots of questions and I’m under the obligation to provide accurate answers. I don’t have any other option and I can’t stop these folks from asking me these questions.

I have questions coming from all over the world in every area of life. Anything you can think of, people asking me questions about it. No one wants to understand that I have too much work trying to answer everyone’s questions.

A few seconds ago, a guy from India wanted to know from me how to create a popular blog. While I was thinking and trying to get his question answered, many more questions were coming in. One from Canada and a lady wanted to know how to lose weight after birth. Can you imagine this! I get so many questions about weight loss. How did they come about gaining weight in the first place?

Ah! You see what I mean? Right now, a kid somewhere in UK is asking me for top 100 Modern Video Games. Everyone thinks I know everything. Well, I don’t blame them! Why? Because I have always given them what they want. They are pleased with me. That’s why they always come back to me.

But I need your help!

Yes! I get all my answers from websites and blogs like yours. I read blogs and websites every moment. I have been to your blog on several occasions where I got some materials to answer some questions. Thanks for providing those materials. However, I still need you to provide more.

Here is the point…

These folks ask me questions every moment and I have to answer correctly. For the most part, I find so many answers. So what I do is I compile a list, beginning with the most relevant. Because of the volume of work I get, that’s the most I can offer them. They will go through the list and select the best.

So here is how to help me!

I know you are an excellent writer. But you have to write to answer the questions these people are asking me. In the past, you have written for me. Thank you! But stop writing for me!

I have read a lot from all over. Now is time to write for these people who keep asking me these questions. If I find out that you perfectly answer their questions, I’ll fetch their answers from your blog. That will make things easier for me.

But then, you have to thoroughly answer their questions. It’s important you note that I care about my reputation so if someone asks me a question, I care to give him the best answer. So if your answer is not in-depth, I’m sorry, I’ll put you at the bottom of the list. I don’t want to lose these people by providing incomplete answers. Yes! They’ll quit if I don’t give them the best.

Here are few things I’m looking for:

[b]1. In-depth materials, touching every aspect of the topic.

Write directly to these people asking me questions. If you write for me, it remains between us. No one else will ever see it. But if you write for them, I’ll be able to let them see what you have written.

2. Help me to understand you are writing for them.

There is a lady whose blog I visit often. She has written on how to help me know who you are writing for. I suggest you read her article. This is the link. Be sure to practice what she has written in that article.

I’ll see you soon when next I visit your blog

Have a wonderful week.

Sorry! I didn’t introduce myself. Forgive me.

My name is Search Engines.

Business / Top 3 Ways Ceos Stay Calm And How You Can Emulate Them by alliyse(m): 1:44pm On Aug 26, 2015
Surina PiyadasaSurina Piyadasa, a Nationally-recognized Coach to CXOs, Fund Managers and Entrepreneurs talk on ways CEOs stay calm and how you can emulate them. Continue after the cut.

As a Coach to CEOs for 10+ years, here's what I've observed about those leaders who excel at staying calm under pressure.

Top 3 Ways CEOs Stay Calm

#1 Leader, know thyself

As we know, stress impacts every leader differently. For some, it can manifest as a racing heart, tense muscles or perspiration. For others, counting sheep in the middle of the night becomes a ritual. Self-awareness is a leadership strength. Listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Treat your body with kindness and it will be good to you.

#2 Breathe

Slow and controlled breathing from the diaphragm is a natural tranquilizer to quiet your mind and body. NOTE: This is different from lung-centric breathing, which can be rapid and shallow.

Here's how:

Inhale (from your diaphragm), slowly through the nose for a count of three. If you have done this correctly, you will feel the area above your belly expand instead of your chest. Without effort, exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of six.

Repeat the exercise three more times. If you feel yourself becoming light headed, take it slow. With intention, practice this mind/body calming technique several times a day until it becomes muscle memory.

#3 Positive mindset

Positivity is a common trait in CEOs who stay calm, even when drinking from the fire hose The good news: a positive mindset can be developed with willingness, commitment and iterative execution. If you happen to be one of those leaders whose mind immediately steers towards what could go wrong, perhaps it's time for a mental reboot.

Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius had some keen insight about positivity with these pearls, “Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.”

Business / The Impact Of Social Shopping On E-commerce In Nigeria by alliyse(m): 2:57pm On Aug 20, 2015

With e-commerce integration into Facebook and plans in place for other social networks, brands have seen the need to adjust their social media marketing strategies to accomodate this trend.

But what does this giant leap say about the future of e-commerce in Nigeria?

Over time social media has become a significant tool for marketers. Companies use the visual characteristics of social network to attract fans, promote images of their products, and create viral campaigns in hope to influence consumers purchasing decisions.

The shop now button on Facebook for instance radically transforms marketing as we know it by compressing the traditional funnel of awareness to purchase.

According to Kaymu’s Head of Social Media and Community Africa, Abiola Fabio,

“social shopping is a breakthrough in how businesses market and sell to consumers. Among the social networks, Facebook dominates as a source of social traffic and sales and accounted for over 36,000 orders on Kaymu in the first quarter of this year”.

In the past social media was seen as a platform to create content for consumers while building an audience for it through advertising. However the shop button has significantly shifted the social network's role in the relationship between consumers and businesses, and has huge impact on the path-to-purchase.

With the growing popularity of social shopping in Nigeria, the e-commerce industry is expected to align with the trend in order to provide the best shopping experience for their consumers.

Nairaland / General / And, Do You Know That You Are A Leader? by alliyse(m): 8:25pm On Aug 16, 2015
BANG! All of a sudden you hit jackpot! What next? This is the day you have been dreaming of - every day and night. The thought of it alone has been the propellant, the grease that oils your elbow whenever it drops down in weariness. Unbelievable, you cannot believe what your eyes are seeing! Sure, you’ve dreamt about it, alas it plays out like a dream now that it is becoming a reality.

In the midst of the wild jubilation's that follow (of friends, families, fans and of course, your tireless teammates) you felt SOMETHING! A strange wind flushes through your face and somehow turns your blood grey or is it black!? In the twinkling of an eye you get disinterested in all that is going on around. Not that you are not happy but you just cannot grasp fully the fact that the paper that will turn you into a multi millionaire has been signed; the deal that will change you into a celebrity, turn the tides of your blossoming professional career has just been finalized! Oh! sweet moving memories rush into your mind with a great surge and before you know it, tears roll down your cheeks.

Oh, sweet moving memories - you remember as if it were yesterday how you begged for your first spot in that movie, how you cried when you were walked out of the office again and again and again. It’s still fresh, the numerous nights you slept with hunger pangs in the belly. Hmm, it is all over now! You were resolute, your mind was set on success and it pays off, for now you have broke even. Bang, it is no jackpot but an aftermath of hard work.

In the span of a few hours, the party is over; you begin to adjust to the life of a celebrity. The initial abashment is over. You begin to brace up to the reality of being a public person! Your picture now flanks the front page of popular newspapers as the media hovers all over you. The initial abashment is over. You are on top of the world - seems to you, you hold the world in the hollow of your palms. Do they not say that the reward of labour is always sweet, enjoy the fruits to the fulness bro!

Well, permit me to have a little talk with you. I must however caution that I may spoil your mood a bit. Just a bit, I promise. The truth they say is sometimes bitter but someone must tell the truth. Yeah, someone! Oh, I know, I know, that you are familiar with being called a star, a celeb, a hero, a talented fellow….. But do you know that you are a leader? No, you say, I know I’m a musician, an instrumentalist, a footballer; I’m just a professional in an organization. You can call me a chap, or something cool, but not a leader! Common, you grumble still, I’m no pastor neither am I a politician therefore Mr. Writer, you can’t sell that idea to me, I am no leader.

Well, I do not blame you. The society sets values and definitions but friend may I remind you that everything is changing-even traditions. You might have read in the dictionary that a leader is a person who leads or command a group, organization or country. You stuck with that and luckily enough, you see yourself way out of that bracket. You do not lead any group; you have no organization, blab blab blab.

To tell you the truth, I am of the opinion that in this new age, with the advent of the social media and all, a leader is more than that. I think a more modern definition should be - a leader is one who influences a set of people in whatsoever way, positive or negative. With this definition, it means entertainers, social commentators, musicians, comedians and the rest are in the bracket of leaders! Don’t get it twisted!

You are a leader and a successful leader at that and friend you need to understand that leadership comes with responsibility. A huge responsibility! You are a leader influencing tens of thousands of youths and young adults alike. They are watching the way you dress, talk and walk. They are studying your lifestyle and don’t be surprise a dozen or so wants to be your exact prototype. Can you now see through the glasses I’m looking from? You are a leader; perhaps more popular than the local pastor or even an elected fellow in the House of Representative.

Friend, I do not know what you term success - Is it just about raking in millions of naira by the seconds or winning recognitions, awards and accolades year in year out? I do not know, I do not know, but this day, I confront you with the words of Martin Luther – “do not think (only) of what you will take out of society but what you will give.” It is what is given that differentiates a star from a legend. Dare to be a legend! Be conscious of the fact that you are a leader, leading a number of people that human measures might not be able to quantify. More to it is the fact that you might never see or hear from them - for feedback. Therefore fellow, I implore you to be conscious of your every step not because you are trying to build an ‘image’ of your real self but because you are aware of the thousands that could go astray if you ere. Remember, a leader’s sin is a leading sin!
