Nairaland / General / Can Eating Cucumbers During Menstruation Cause Barrenness? by Allwellokpi(m): 12:24pm On Jun 14, 2019
A Facebook post published in Nigeria tells women there are a number of things they mustn’t do during their periods, and offers other “don’ts” to avoid cancer and infertility.

In summary, the post’s advice is:

1. Women shouldn’t drink ice water or soda water during menstruation, or eat coconut. It claims “research proves” that drinking ice water can “cause menstrual blood remaining in the uterine wall” and lead to “uterus cancer or tumour” after five to 10 years. No reason is given for avoiding soda water and coconut.

2. It tells women not to use shampoo during their periods “because the pores of the head are open during menstruation and it can cause headache”. This, it says, is “very dangerous” and the effects “can be felt when young and later when aged”.

3. Women mustn’t eat cucumbers when they’re menstruating, the post says, because “the sap present in the cucumber can block some menstruation (blood waste) in the uterine wall”, which could cause barrenness.

4. Finally, the advice goes, women’s bodies “should not be knocked or hit by hard objects, especially the abdomen” because it could cause them to vomit blood, and the uterus could be injured. This, it says, is the “origin” of cancer of the uterus, as well as of “cysts and barrenness”.

Nairaland / General / Atiku Abubakar Resigns From APC (full Statement) by Allwellokpi(m): 1:08pm On Nov 24, 2017
Atiku Abubakar resigns from APC (Full Statement)

Statement of resignation of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa) Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 from the All Progressives Congress:

On the 19th of December, 2013, I received members of the All Progressives Congress at my house in Abuja. They had come to appeal to me to join their party after my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had become factionalized as a result of the special convention of August 31, 2013.

The fractionalization of the Peoples Democratic Party on August 31, 2013 had left me in a situation where I was, with several other loyal party members, in limbo, not knowing which of the parallel executives of the party was the legitimate leadership.

It was under this cloud that members of the APC made the appeal to me to join their party, with the promise that the injustices and failure to abide by its own constitution which had dogged the then PDP, would not be replicated in the APC and with the assurance that the vision other founding fathers and I had for the PDP could be actualized through the All Progressives Congress.

How to Master Ceremonies like a Professional

The MCing profession, is going through a similar transition, from family, friends, friends of friends and staff, to professionals who can clearly interpret the objectives of the event and help the event owner and audience, achieve these objectives.

The MCing profession is leaving the hands of ill-prepared, untrained, self-proclaimed “masters”, to the hands of skilled, well-prepared, versed and vast, trained professionals – masters in title and in delivery.

An untrained MC generally lacks the skill or direction to stir an event, while a professional MC is properly guided by the ethics of his/ her profession. An ad-hoc/amateur MC perceives the work as a hobby, and as such may not go the extra mile to make it grand...READ MORE
