I have been hearing that GRE is hard and all the daunting stories... today am now a living withness to it.

I had about 3 weeks to prepare for this exam, which is very crazy because I wrote TOEFl interstice this period. Virtually I used only 2 weeks to prepare. I used Manhathan and little of Kaplan for the preparation.. I was virtually reading 8 to 12hrs daily, very true and crazy. I did couple of tests with manhattan free tests and the power test.

On the day of the test, I was virtually fidgeting because I was completely over loaded.. My head became heavy and kinda constricted. I just believed it to be exam tension. we started little before 10am. the eassy was usual so i just worked it out. the first session was quant, this section was kinda hard but moderate. I managed and finished it leaving 2 questions out. the second section was verbal. it was as if it was the devil himself that set this section. you can read two paragraphs without understanding what the passage is saying.. its well. After that I went for break and came back. this was when I was able to do better because I know I did better.
my scores after everything is 305..

Advice to all that want to take is that you need 2 months or more to prepare for this exam. it is not a walk in the park like other exams you would have taken. please prepare adequately. Am hoping to rewrite by december because my admission is for fall next year.
Also, Pacing can really be a good strategy when working. because with time you can almost sovle everything or anything but that is exactly what GRE wont give you.

Congrats.

Quickest fix: answer the shorter passages after the SEs and TCs. For the longer ones, take the questions and try to trace them in the main passage. Look for key words to help you trace the exact part of the passage that has it. Read 1 or 2 lines before the sentence and 1 or 2 after the sentence. Pause for a few seconds and just think. You time won't run as fast as you think. Just think.

Come up with the answer in your head without checking the options then go back to the options. *by now your ABCDE should already be on your answer sheet*.

Examine A, if it does not say what you came up with -strike it. Do same till you find an option that matches yours. If A, B, C, D don't cut it for you, don't even bother reading E just select it as your answer and move on. If you keep reading the options over and over, I guarantee you would get confused and your time will keep running.

Sorry I can't advice on what schools to apply to simply because of your GPA. And I have no knowledge of your field and the best program that would suit you. The task of finding suitable schools for you is essentially yours. You would have to make use of Google and spend time on school websites. Many times schools state their GPA requirements (usually 3.0/4.0 for tier 2 schools) as well as GRE/TOEFL/IELTS and other requirements.

Based on your GPA, GRE scores and other parameters, you will be able to judge for yourself whether you can cut the mustard.

As per funding, many PhDs are fully funded and some MSc too. But they are very competitive. You will be competing with fellow applicants entering the program for departmental funding such as scholarships, fellowships and TAs. For RA positions, you would have to network with professors who have funds and are working on research areas that have direct bearing on your academic and research interests. It is your duty to find such professors and introduce yourself to them. Upon their response to your introductory e-mail, you will be able to sense their level of enthusiasm towards you. And 8/10 times (at least in my case), they will tell you if they have funding or not, even before you ask. Just note that not all Professors you mail will ever respond. But keep pushing. At least you would know if you should apply to such schools or not. However stellar your credentials may be, if there is no faculty member in a department that can take you on based on your research interests, you are almost wasting your money and time in applying.

Let me ask, what problem or problems have you noticed in the cause of your professional career that you would want to solve by a way of research? If you can answer that, you would know which school and professor to approach.

Thank you all for your selfless assistance. I will focus on my GRE and Toefl for now and make sure I ace it.. This Yankee we must go there ooh.

To add to what DreManuel has said, you may want to contact BY MAFIT to know their price for rescheduling the GRE. They usually have better rates than the subsisting $ to N one.

If $50 is N18,500 at the present rate, BY MAFIT might charge you N9,000-12,000 to do the same thing which is cheaper for you.

I made an unscrupulous mistake by not carrying out adequate research before registering for both the GRE and Toefl exams

I have registered for the GRE exam for 6th of October and Toefl for 23rd of September. I believe with the data I have garnered here that it will be very difficult to get my required score, which is 320 with a months practice.

I have some questions and observations

1. Please can I reschedule my GRE exams til November ending and how much will it cost me?

2. Please which schools will be advisable for CPM either MSc or PhD with partial or full funding?

3. My sister stays in Texas and can accommodate me for the program so schools close to Texas would be an advantage, but other schools are welcomed as I want to apply to 5 schools against fall 2018
. I have already applied for Tamu college station so I need more eligible schools, feasible ones..

4. To be honest I have been bamboozled by the information on this thread. Hence, I beg our bosses in this house to please suggest a chronological approach to studying for the exam. I mean what book or materials to start with first, and accordingly. This is because I believe that some books are fundamental for others. Some you need to understand others
