TravelRe: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by amby7(m): 12:30pm On Jun 29, 2015
Good afternoon house..
Please I have been told told that I have to apply for a transit visa for the country through which I'll be connecting my flights (options are South Africa (Johannesburg)or Uk (Heathrow)).. I want to confirm if this is true. Thanks

mrnilobrawn:
If u are not far from Lagos or Abuja, go do ur medicals right away, as it would expediate yourr visa process.
IOM is the best deal for flight, unless u hv a promo from Wakanow.
Backbakers dont care about your loads.
Thanks so much, appreciate d advice.. thanks again

Kepner:
Oh really!...lots of choices for you then
Funny thing is I also applied to Mcmaster, as a second choice though.
But as redribs pointed out, you'll most likely have to settle for next Fall, if you're bent on going to canny.
Good luck!
I am bent on canny.. I even intend to take my fiance with me as a common-law partner so she can work while I study, not sure of the possiblities and prospects though bt if settling for fall next year is what it takes den am ready to wait.

Kepner:
You're welcome.
Well, it's surprising too but probably their workload...the good thing is you haven't received any regret mail so far. I just hope your TRv application doesn't delay you further though.
Was uOttawa your only choice??
Uottawa wasn't my only choice.. also have open applications to Ualberta and Mcmaster. But from gettin moni to pay for the applications, transcript wahala and sending it to the schools, i got confirmation of reciept of my docs. to Ualberta on fri. and mcmaster yesterday.. Uottawa was more like my 1st choice in canny cos of a friend dats there, i actually have 2 admissions in cyprus and another 2 in the UK

Thanks..
I did apply for winter session and i actually called when it got to 8 weeks (was told my file would be forwarded to the admission committe and should expect a response the following week). Called again yesterday and was told to wait for about another 2 weeks, suprised its taking this long.
thanks again

Kepner:
Hi...
I also applied to uOttawa(Fall 2015) and it took them about 4 weeks to get back to me. I think it depends on the number of applications being processed at the time. More workload equals delay, especially if you applied for Winter session.
My advice will be for you to send them a mail requesting your app status cos 10weeks is a long time...you should get a reply soonest.

Onyeoma3: Brother, considering ur grade, M.Eng is the best bet for you (so you can easily get an admission). And once you're on ground, try ur best and you might end up switching over to M.A.Sc if you see a potential supervisor. The most important tin is to be on ground 1st.
I made a strong 2.1 of abt 85% on a 5.0 scale and strong 1st class (of abt 95%) in my last 2years but couldn't get a supervisor (though cos of my Research Interest),and even tried up to 5 different schools(at a point, I loaded almost #1,500 card and then had to watch my money go into thin air as some of the calls always entered voice mail).I had to go for M.Eng and will soon switch by His grace.
Also, doing M.Eng till the end might affect ur chances of going for a PhD, but never give up.
Canada is worth it after all...but always have in mind of coming back home after everything.
Thanks.. also considered not matching up for M.ASc due to my grade, however on the preference form there is a section that allows u to b considered for M.Eng if not taken for M.ASc or for the application to b circulated to carleton university as well. Iam praying that iam covered with this..
Pls how long did it take u to recieve ur admission decision from the time of application?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by amby7(m): 4:06pm On Aug 20, 2014
Aloaye.. just received a mail from them this afternoon that i shd fill out another preference form. My prayers answered?? spoke wit a friend and its like the stress for M.ASc is much more than for M.Eng.. I hope i have made the right decision. thanks alot for all the info. n encouragement
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by amby7(m): 1:19pm On Aug 20, 2014
Aloaye: Contact their admissions office to see if u can change from M. Eng to a MASc,this would be easier tho if u had a supervisor. I changed my application from a MASc. To a PhD bfore I got the admission, the graduate school had turned down my application for a masters because I already hv a masters here in naija.
Shalom
My fiance feels the same, bt since i didnt get a response wen i inquired almost two weeks ago, i started gettin worried. So i concluded that i shd go ahead and apply to carleton. also my 2.2 is anoda cause for wori dat i might not get accepted.
do u think i shd go ahead, or i shd try contacting them again
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by amby7(m): 12:58pm On Aug 20, 2014
Aloaye: It is well...you're making a headway already. Just make your msg to them short and straight to point(Dear...,please I need an update on my admission status to know how soon I should expect to hear from the school on the final decision) and include some gratitude(Thanks for your assistance so far)
All the best!
Thanks so much..
Made a stupid mistake and applied for M.Eng instead of M.ASc, to my understanding if m given M.Eng i wont b able to proceed for PHD and that wud b a huge blow to mi..
my program (electrical/computer engineering) is a joint program btw carleton and uottawa, and if applying for M.ASc wit uottawa and not given wud be considered by carleton as well wit no extra charge and vise versa. bt wit dis mistake on my path i considered it resonable to apply to carleton and bear the extra cost

Aloaye: The applications on-going now I believe maybe for January,if u keep in touch regularly with their admissions office,u may get ur admission by early October..processing ur TRV is faster now,u can get it within 45days or highest 2months. Though some schools don't hv the winter session but May and September applications could also open soon.
UK schools process faster bcs the competition there may not be too high and they just need your money :-).
Wish you the best!
need to go asap.. frustrated with d dept. m wit at work.
was in contact wit two of their admissons assistants at uottawa as they requested for clearer copies of my transcripts, asked to inform my referees to check their mail and fill the forms and other things. However the moment my infoweb admission file was complete i tried contacting them, but no more response since then. I wonder y

Finished my carleton preliminary application just now..
just nid to pay and send all required docs
applying for winter session to both schools, i pray they come out positive and on time.

YA!!
I finished with a 2.2 and was suprised wen i landed 3 admissions in UK.. the best ranking in the 500s. My elder brother has bin to UK on many occasions and he said d same thing "they just need your moni"
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by amby7(m): 12:12pm On Aug 20, 2014
vinnygod: My admission with uottawa took like 3months thou hv seen a guy here who's his took less than a month to process...all depends on d number of application they're process at d moment..d higher d number of applicants d higher d process time...just take a chilling pill....it will come out successfully..u can alwz contact admission officer via numba or email to know d stage of ya application
Thanks vinnygod. didnt have my sights on canada, was so sure i was going to UK to study and return to my job.. bt my fiance started bugging mi abt canada, my uncle relocated there (manitoba) and a classmate of mine is also in uottawa. also m just going for an additional degree dat i wont likely use for promotions and stuff, everything just changed suddenly last month.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by amby7(m): 11:44am On Aug 20, 2014
Aloaye: It could take up to 3months but u need to keep in touch with their admissions office to get information on your application just incase any more documents are needed.
If you're applying for a research programme, contact potential supervisors.Getting a supervisor can fast-track your admission.
All the best
Thanks Aloaye... 3 months is such a long time, have 3 admissions to UK (London and Leicester) and anoda 2 to Cyprus, and they only took three weeks or four at most. Read smewhere that i have to submit my visa application to canada three months before the start date of my intended program of study and thus the worry.. Thanks again
