There is no incident that happens that they don't see as an opportunity to denigrate the igbos.i don't know if it has to do with the recent expose in IBB's book. Check all the recent happenings, IBb book launch, Natasha vs Akpabio,Fubara and supreme court, Trump and Zelensky, Closure of schools in the North because of Ramadan, the list is endless. They must some how find a way to drag igbos I think it's time to un sheath the sword. I'm Yoruba but I'm surprised when I read her that Ibo kidnapped him. Was there any evidence? When we all know that most of these kidnapping were done by Fulanis. Maybe there's something I need to know. |

Lukuluku69: True.
But in most cases you have an unhatched eggs with chicks within, you can help it with a small cracking of that particular egg to help the chick within to further crack it.
This usually happens when the chick within is weak, not properly formed (if you hatch them, you will see a thread like entrails that leads to the anus) they usually die off within days if not properly cared for.
This is the reason I normally don't allow my brooding hen sit on more than 8 eggs. It allows for proper circulation of heat since the hen can comfortably cover them. The rest I eat!
As a Rule, I don't allow any hen sit on the first 2 eggs laid. I eat them and also the last egg. Those are usually the ones with unhatched chicks within after 3-4 days of hatching. I totally agree with you. I have hatched some like that and they survived but others didn't. Some would not be strong enough to get along with the siblings and would be left behind for predators, some would be rejected by the mother. What I do is to not allow the mother go out for the next 24 hours until the newly hatched one will get strong enough to get along. |

Lukuluku69: Some people advocate for their vaccination when they are much and from experience I think they need it.
There was a time I have close to 90 chicks from 12 hens. Kept them all in my compound. Then a Pox like disease broke out that affects their beaks, eyes. Lost about 75 of them. Then a neighbor suggested I should let them free range a bit.
Hawks and bikes killed the remainders but the good news is that they go again and reproduce. I know local chicken do have Newcastle disease that they will be sleeping in the afternoon or twisting their necks. These used to bring a lot of casualties but the survivors soon make up by reproducing soon. |

Agriculture › Re: My One Year Journey Raising Local Chickens by Ameboperoo(m): 6:03am On Feb 24, 2025 |
jidestroud: Lol...well, you are somewhat right. Other African countries are improving on their indigenous chicken breeds, which are able to rival the other varieties in meat, taste and fast growth. Honestly speaking, aside the zero cost of raising our local birds here, especially the ones indigenous to the southwest here which are extremely bony, small stature and takes almost a year to reach maturing, it's a totally pointless raising them.
Researches needs to be carried out to improve our local breeds to make them profitable. Kenya has it's own improved indigenous local improved variety. Well, I once heard funaab worked on one Funaab Alpha variety sha, but I never see am for anywhere .
Even the highly praised Fulani Chicken is nothing in comparison. Nigeria as giant of Africa needs to sit up Biko so we go stop to dey celebrate local poor variety say dey sweet gan.
Nothing beats the sweetness of Broiler chicken jare (my opinion anyways). Have you heard of boiler? That's Nigerian equivalent of Kureiler |

hkidola00: debatable....broiler is softer and absorb ingredients better..local tough to tear with slimmer meat Not true. Even with just salt, local chicken have great taste but you see broiler breast, it tastes like yam. Even old layers or cockerels taste better than broiler. |

pocohantas: What happens to the eggs that don't hatch? Them fit fry am chop?😩 The eggs are bad and smelly in most case but in some cases, they are fertile and will hatch 1 or 2 days after. The problem is that the mother will leave too soon to fend for the newly hatched chicks. If you can prevent it from leaving for the next 24 hours or so, the chick will start making sound inside the eggs and some will even break a portion to breathe. The mother might still hatch or you can actually assist to hatch them. Yes I have done it before but some may not be able to catch up with the older chicks when foraging be left behind to predators. Another thing you consider is the size of the mother. If the eggs are too many, all may not be properly incubated. I use to limit the number of eggs incubated to 8 or 10 at most. Even though, local chicken are skinny but they have strength in their flavour and you can kill like 4 instead of 1 broiler. It will still serve you well. |
