Culture / Re: Animals Names In Yoruba And Their English Meaning by Ameboperoo(m): 11:54pm On Jul 24
presiade:

That’s far from the truth. There was no way to call a leopard ekùn. The name ekùn came from the humming sound that tigers make, which leopards don’t. Even if tigers are now extinct in the present day “Yorubaland”, they existed and the forefathers also saw tigers (which they called ekùn) in other kingdoms (Bariba/Borgu, Dahomey, etc.). Ogidan ọlọ́lá iju, akomo nílà lai lo abe refers to tiger’s sharp claws that it uses to scratch its prey as if making tribal marks on a child.
Ekun is leopard
Kiniun is lion
Ogidan is hyaena (Lako lan b'ogidan because of the female pseudopenis)
Tiger is to Asian what lion is to Africa.

Esude007:
my questions for you are:

(1) What was your fertilizer Management.

Hybrid maize is nothing without fertilizer just as broilers can't attain the required weight without feeding with formulated feeds.

(2) weed management: did u manage the weed well?

If u know u can't afford to follow GAP, don't plant hybrid
I applied poultry manure before cultivation, NPK at 14days and Urea at about 6 weeks.
I have checked the website of seedco and the expected yield was 5-6 tonnes/hectare while that of sc719 is 10 to 12 tonnes/hectare.
I think it has to do with the variety

I just followed you here from your beniseed .
I planted the Seedco 510 and the germination rate is like 100%. On the other hand, I hear people who planted the Sc719 complain about low germination rate.
What I noticed is that the yield of the SC510 is low compared to local varieties

hmmmm... Lemme give u a secret that have been working for me.... Fulani herdsmen don't fear juju or even guns... The only thing that keep them from my cassava and Maize section is my laminated Quran writing.... There no even want make the leaves of my maize touch their skin, because they believe that once they trespass, it is as simple as there are fighting with God directly...try this method and see wonders.
More explanation on this please or possibly pictures.
Thank you

Agriculture / Re: Sesame Farming ( The New Oil Money) by Ameboperoo(m): 7:38pm On Jul 21
I used to farm cassava and yam in Kogi but have been embattled by herdsmen. I have relocated to Abuja and I happen to have assess to rent a small portion where I planted corn and beans.
I want to try sesame seeds this year but I never planted it before.
I need to start small to get the necessary experience. Where can I get viable seed for planting?

In all fairness, that clip was too short to draw such conclusion..

Kudos to the men of the Fire Service.. as they appeared to have arrived the scene on time..

I'm sure the fire was eventually put out by them..
As at the time I passed, I don't think they were able to put out the fire. This heat is so much that nobody can get close.
