(2) Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management Education

a. Minimum of four credits in the GCE/O’L, SSCE, NECO, WASC including English Language, one of Biology/ Agricultural Science,Health Science and any two ofEconomics, Geography, Food and Nutrition, Home Management, General Science. In addition, candidates are expected to possess a minimum of P7 or P8 in Mathematics and Chemistry at not more than two sittings.



b. TC II with at least Merit passes in (4) subjects as required in (a) above and passes in Mathematics and General Science.



(3) Diploma in Library Science Education

a. A minimum of four credits in the GCE/O’L, SSCE, NECO, WASC O’LEVEL including English Language, at not more than two sittings.

b. A minimum of (4) Merits in TC II including English Language.

c. Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to Senate as in (a) and (b) above.



(4) Diploma in Nursery and Primary Education

a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE, NECO, WASC/ O’Level including English Language at not more than two sittings.

b. A minimum of four (4) Merits in TC II including English Language.

c. Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to Senate as in (a) and (b) above.



(5) Diploma in Integrated Science Education

a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/O’L, SSCE, NECO, WASC O’Level including Mathematics and any two of the following Science subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science, Home Economics; Food and Nutrition with at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sittings.

b. A minimum of four (4) Merits in TC II in the relevant Science subjects as indicated in (a) above. Merit in Arithmetic processes would be considered a substitute for Mathematics



(6) Diploma in Physical and Health Education

a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/O’L, SSCE, NECO, WASC O’Level including English Language and Biology or Health Science at not more than two sittings.

b. A minimum of four (4) Merits in TC II including English Language and Physical Education.

c. Holders of Associateship Certificates in Education.

d. Candidates who are deficient in English Language but have the required minimum of four (4) credits in GCE/O’L, SSCE, NECO, WASC or Merits in TC II but must be a recognized current state and or national Sportsmen or Women with evidence of sports performance may be considered.



(7) Diploma in Secretarial Studies Education

a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/O’L, SSCE, NECO, WASC .O’Level including English Language, Economics or Commerce and two other subjects at not more than two sittings.

ifeanyi_ja: Students don’t want us to end strike – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it is continuing its nationwide strike on the advice of university students.

In a telephone interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, the President of the union, Dr. Isa Fagge, said  students were tired of the incessant industrial actions by the university lecturers due to the Federal Government’s failure to implement the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.

Fagge said the union had decided to heed the advice of the students to continue the strike until the Federal Government fully implemented the agreement.

“Our students have come out to say they don’t want us to call off the strike until the Federal Government answers us, because they don’t want us to call off now and later we go back to strike again. So, we are heeding the advice of our students,” he said.

On the complaint by the Federal Government that it lacked the funds to implement the agreement, Fagge said it was not all about money, noting that government did not need funds to start implementing some parts of the agreement.

“There are issues and agreement they can implement without money. Why don’t they begin with those ones?” he asked.

He added that it was unfortunate that the government had pulled out of dialogue with ASUU, stating that the union would not be intimidated.

He said, “Now, government has pulled out of the dialogue. We thought we were the ones going on strike, but now government has also gone on strike.”

Last Thursday, university students under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Students reportedly staged a peaceful protest in Ado-Ekiti and flayed the Federal Government for failing to honour the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.

The students, who were from public universities, threatened to disrupt activities of private universities, adding that the government was not bothered about their plight because children of government officials were studying either in private universities or studying overseas.

The university lecturers began an indefinite strike on July 1 and have been demanding full implementation of the agreement ASUU had with the Federal Government in 2009, which among other things include the UNESCO-recommended 26 per cent budgetary allocation for education. However, the government said it could not implement the agreement, and is seeking re-negotiation.

The Federal Government, last Wednesday, accused ASUU of being unrealistic by continuing its nationwide strike and asked it to rethink its demands, considering other commitments government has.
The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who gave government’s position on the strike when he briefed journalists at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, said apart from security, education was one of the sectors the government had expended a lot of money on.

pls brother i didnt insult any1 when i made my comment and we all are entitled to our opinion. Wat am sayin is tis, if we want our politicians to stop d huge allowances as most ppl claim then we the masses must work on ourself. Our political structure must be reformed. Read what i wrote carefully, hw can u say sm1 who want to serve his ppl should buy governorship ticket for 10 million naira, pls be honest is it right? Afterward that same person will start to lobby to secure the primaries then start the main campaign... The fact remains politicians are stil very different from our lecturers, hw many of these lecturers payed 10 million to purchase employment form...none of them so they should never compare with these people..am nt against them seeking beta pay bt my issue is they needn't mention politicians in d quest for that, simple because they are nt mates
