Which Peter Obi?

Obi does not even have a political party at the moment. One party state is bad for democracy and good governance but it has nothing to do with popularity of opposition candidate. If Obi is so popular people will be decamping to join him not run away from him and his party. Politicians are scientists when it comes to elections...they flow with the popular wave...where they can win.

Actually, Obi is Party-less at this time. The situation is scary and not looking good at all

Check all the retired policemen in this country and see how they are faring after retirement.
Check how their children turn out in life too.
