My 100 zartech broilers at day 14:

Mortality: 4
Highest weight: 470g
Gen. Average weight: 350g
Lowest weight: 220g

I attribute the low gain against last weeks weight of 150g on heat stress, coccidia and slight CRD which Im treating.

Your comments/observations/advice are highly needed please.

Point 4 is very necessary. They expend so much energy to eat and noon and don't convert it well, too stressful.
Try feeding at cooler hours and u will achieve fantastic fcr
True, their growth has really slowed down. Today is their 14th day, I will update their weight later. Thank you.

Provision of clean water and electrolytes (multivitamin) is easily feasible. Stocking density should be max of 3 square feet per broiler. for example 150 square feet (10*15 ft or 20*7.5 ft) should not contain more than 50 broilers.
Thanks much sir, what can you say about point 4 please?
AgricultureRe: ... by aminuelyakub(m): 6:32am On Mar 11, 2018
Good day farmers,

In my quest to find solutions to the heat stress killing my broilers, I came across these remedies detailed below:

1. Provition of cool clean water
2. Provition of Vitamin C
3. Provition of Electrolytes
4. Withdrawal of feed at the hottest hours of the day to be compensated by feeding at cooler hours
5. Reduction of stocking density

What Im skeptical about are points 3 and 4, thus my qos:

-Please are they true?

-If applicable, is it safe for me to administer Vit C and Electrolytes to my 12 days old broilers on which Im currently treating Cocci with ceyene pepper?

Turks:
Morning sir. When did you notice the CRD? What’s your pen ventilation like? What’s your litter management like? Litter should be changed twice or three times a week to avoid ammonia build up as well as cocci infection. I think you have a litter management problem hence the onset of CRD and cocci at the same time. You don’t administer vitamins to birds down with cocci. It’s a death catalyst because of the vitamins B present in it.

However, Vitacox should be used in treating the cocci infection once the ventilation issue has been sorted. Vitacox is a 3-1-2 dosage. 3 days on the drug, one day of water, 2 days on eh drug. Please do not include vitamins as Vitacox contains Vitamins E, C and K needed for the healing of the bird’s ailing intestinal walls. Alternatively, you can give bitterleaf extracts, Cayenne’s pepper or Apple cider vinegar as organic substitutes, they work fine equally. Thank you.
My ventilation is fine as you certified it yestarday, but my litter management is poor, I havent changed the bedding and I equally suspect my smoky brooder. Will fixing my litter and smoky brooder stop the CRD? I started noticing slight symptoms of CRD day before yestarday but I tut the bird was panting.

Sir, for the Vitacox, what I dont understand is the 3-1-2 dosage. Do you mean 3 days of vitacox in water, 1 day of plain water then 2 days of vitacox in water again?

And for the pepper, its available here in sun dried form. How can I prepare it, in what propption should I apply it and the duration please?

Can I continue to use the est mix wsp in combination with the above? (vitacox or pepper)

Thank you very much sir!

Anytime sir.
Morning sir,

I think my 9 days old zartech broilers are having CRD and Coccidia, I noticed them making a grugling sound and a light brown watery poop in pen.

I have been giving them amintotal and est mix wsp which I withdraw day before yestarday because I administered Lasota yestarday.

Please help! cry

3 Major Things As you Plan to Expand

Its been so much on my mind to share what I call the triple stand for a growing broiler business, I humbly seek permission to use this thread.

It is obvious that every business man desires growth and the poultry farmer is not an exemption, we dream and desire growth every time

Three factors must be given due consideration, they eventually determine the success of our broiler business.

1) Market

2) Available Space and Man Power

3) Available Cash

Give good consideration to my order of arrangement, this is also th order priority.

1) Market -- This refers strongly to where and who are you selling to?

At what rate are you giving your product- your energy and investment?

This questions must be properly addressed to actually determine that your expansion will bring in profit and not a loss.

Available Space and manpower: let us take a brief on the issue of spacing first, adequate space for growth is very key especially in broiler business, an environment with free flow of natural and reduced heat can not be compromised to achieve good result.

Manpower, is another key factor, this contributes a lot to the neatness of your environment, likewise it helps in achieving high bio-security.

Along side the issue of manpower is staff training,

Cash : Hmmmmm, cash!!, I have seen so many fail in this regard, even myself I have been a victim on several occasion. You have cash to properly manage 200 birds and you are stocking 300 or say 500, this will at the end of the day result in malnutrition and reduced growth rate.
let us rap this in an old wise saying, " cut ur coat according to your size".

Thanks for availing your time to read,
Well said!

Its about time for the business aspect of this venture to be considered. As you have rightly said, market is the most important part of this business.

Personally, I dont see man power and funds to be much of a challenge compaired to market. If the market is guaranteed, I feel many of us here will know how to get the funds, with funds at hand, capital, land, labour and training can be sort out.

As a newbie, this market challenge is really scaring me up.

I want to use this oppurtunity to kindly ask all the veterans of this business here present to help us out with the ways we can over come this market challenge please.

At this point, I want to say a big thank you to all that have contributed to this thread especially Emma and Turks, I cant thank you enough.

I stocked 100 Zartec chicks with mortality at 2, they are 7 days now and their average weight is about 150g against their day 1 average weight of 40g. With your help, I was able to go very close (93%) to the standard target of gaining 4x day 1 weight at day 7.

Kudos! You guys are doing a very good job.

With such high temperature, @ 6 days u should have removed all heat source, and ensure they have fresh water at least thrice in day, i.e change their water thrice in a day,

If they still show sign of heat stress, then u can give multivitamin containing vit c, or give the normal white vitamin c dt is used for human, i advice dis to be the last resort.
How many tablets per 3 liter drinker.

When The Heat Is Too Much, Then Provide Ventilation. Open Available Canopy Or Window To Allow Fresh Air. As Simple As That.
I do that but they still pant as its very hot here.

Do this and the birds will be fine. You should have given them glucose on arrival. Also, give the calcium supplements for 5 days.

How old are he birds generally? You probably need to in crease their calcium intake. Get UltraCalD or CalciMax. Those are very good calcium supplements. Keep observing the not so healthy ones. It might just be the heat. It’s probably you being paranoid.
They are just 3 days of age, its olnly 1 that have that problem now. On arrival I feed the few that have that similar problem with multi vitamin n they are fine now. Should I still add the supliment?

1. One of my chicks (zartech cobb 50) can not stand on its feet, its prematured compared to its mates. They are on amintotal + est mix wsp, this is their 3rd day.
