FoodRe: Coca-cola Or Pepsi? by Amiphat: 11:40am On Sep 11, 2006
Have you ever been out on a REALLY hot day and find a drinks vendor? If he just came out, there is something about a COLD, SWEATY bottle of COCA-COLA.

Its too good to even pour into a glass because some of the essence is lost - or even by sipping through a straw. The First taste is HEAVEN , it tingles down your throat and you feel a tightness in your mouth. You take gulp after gulp till you reach the beginning of the 'ribbon device' on the logo of the bottle. You pause and think to yourself that - "at this point in time, there ainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnt nuuuuuuuuuuuuthin better".

The last few swallows are difficult because 1) The love affair with this current bottle is about to end and 2) A second bottle could be considered gluttony.

Its coca-cola forever for me. I thank NBC Nigeria for helping me get thru six years of University when I needed a coke to either pick me up or elevate my already soaring psyche. I still wish I could work with the company - trust me- free cokehuhhuh?

Heaven. (Ps.What P--sihuhhuhhuh?)
TravelRe: Does The Us Embassy Visa Policy In Nigeria Discriminate? by Amiphat: 11:09am On Sep 11, 2006
The US consulate has to be the very worst in the whole country. My experience?

REFUSAL 1: Before I got married, I had wanted to go "meet" my mother-in-law who happens to have a green card and was unable to come home at the time. The young lady did not even look at any of my documents before saying that I was ineligible (The only question asked being whether I was married or not). The fact that I had an unused US visa in the passport did not even deter her after I indicated that I had just changed jobs at the time and could not take time off nor the fact that I had a letter from the company I had been working at for over 3 years.

REFUSAL 2: After Being married for over a year, at least the second time round was marginally better with the official looking through most of my documents and asking pertinent questions. However in a queue with over 30 people, only 2 were given. I actually heard one of the interviewers tell a guy that "why do you want to study in the US when your degree is not so good? you should try an African University"- the arrant gall of the officer!!!

The rejection after paying your hard earned cash, waking up early to meet your appointment, being spoken to rudely by some of the officers (the Nigerian girl, who looks like an SU member and sings gospel at the TOP of her voice being the worst.), and being asked some of the silliest questions in the world is really disheartening.

I have decided not to bother going to look for my mother-in-law anymore. If she comes home, all well and good; if not, the Empire State Building and Lady Liberty can wait.

I am still on number 5 in the number of beautiful African countries I can visit on holiday on my own.

Of witches and witchcraft - this may be a late addition, but the truth is I do believe there are things that go bump in the night.  After all, both the Bible and the Quaran speak about the spirit realm and witches (though shall not suffer a witch to live? the witch of Endor? Jinns and Sprites?)

I had a dream once where I saw several people gathered around a fire, pointing their fingers at it and repeatedly using the word "EKWENSU", I was paralysed on my bed and though I felt awake, I could not get off the bed.

After a good deal of praying, I finally woke up bathed in sweat and finally able to speak (I had been trying to call out to my roomates).

I needed no prophet to tell me to say a meaningful prayer then but that is not the main eye opener of the tale.

When I later related the story to my friend believe it or not, I found out that the word 'EKWENSU" which I had never heard before that night meant DEVIL.

Still don't believe? I do, but also know for a FACT that there is nothing that prayer cannot solve
