Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested Abdul-Aziz Nyako, the son of impeached Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako. The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement on Friday that Abdul-Aziz was picked up by EFCC operatives in Gombe. Uwujaren said former governor’s son was immediately flown to Abuja “where he is currently being grilled by a crack team of detectives, who had been working on the Adamawa investigation for several months.” The EFCC had declared Nyako and his son wanted for money laundering-related offences two weeks ago. Uwujaren said Abdul-Aziz was being grilled in relation with how N15bn, belonging to the Adamawa State Government, was laundered through five accounts of companies belonging to him. The said companies under investigation, the commission said, were Blue Opal Nigeria limited, Crust Energy Nigeria Limited, Blue Ribbon Multilinks Limited, Tower Assets Management Limited and Blue Ribbon Bureau De Change. The EFCC spokesman said the money was moved into the accounts of the companies domiciled in a new generation bank with the help of the manager, who is also an in-law to Nyako. It was stated that the Accounts Officer was quizzed and released on bail. http://www.punchng.com/news/efcc-arrests-nyakos-son-probes-n15bn-transactions/ |
A combined team of security operatives have surrounded the residence of the Director of Media of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organization, Mallam Garba Shehu. The operatives who were armed to the teeth, took positions around the house located at area 11, Garki Abuja, as early as 5:35am on Thursday morning. One of Shehu’s colleagues at the Atiku Media 0ffice, who pleaded anonymity, called The PUNCH at about 6am. He said, “Security men have surrounded the residence of our director, Mallam Garba Shehu in Area 11. They came in several vehicles. I cannot make out which of the security services because it is still dark here. “None of them has said anything about why they are laying siege at his house.” It was gathered that the security operatives were miffed by the audacity of the APC campaign. The APC campaign which Garba heads, organised a prime time interview for Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on CNN. It was aired minutes after President Goodluck Jonathan held a media chat on national television. Analysts say the CNN interview gave Buhari the advantage of responding to some of the allegations against him as well as some of the issues raised by Jonathan. Some of the issues include the shift in the 2015 elections, the Boko Haram insurgency and the anti-corruption fight. Garba could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report. http://www.punchng.com/news/security-operatives-surround-apc-campaign-spokesmans-residence/ |

Nigerian Tribune- Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has asked Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, to shut up and seek God’s forgiveness for abusing him barely two years after he begged him in a letter over previous insults. Governor Fayose had last week in Ile Ife, Osun State, lambasted Obasanjo for what he called Obasanjo’s unnecessary outbursts on President Goodluck Jonathan. But Obasanjo, through one of his associates who craved anonymity in Abeokuta on Friday, said that Fayose who wrote him a letter, begging him two years ago to facilitate his (Fayose) return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could be attacking him again so soon. The Obasanjo associate asked Nigerians not to take Fayose serious as he would soon write another letter of apology to the former president. Fayose’s letter, dated June 26, 2012, contained how Fayose begged Obasanjo for forgiveness for what he called his actions that had caused embarrassment to the former president. The tone of the letter also asked the former president to help him facilitate his return to the PDP. The former president, in his reply to Fayose’s letter, dated July 18, 2012, accepted to forgive the Ekiti State governor but told him that the aspect of facilitating his return to the party needed to be handled at the local, state and the national levels of the party. Below is the unedited content of the letter Fayose wrote to Obasanjo and the former president’s reply to Fayose’s letter. Fayose’s Letter: “Dear Baba, “There is no denying the fact that my relationship with you has gone sour as a result of my action and inaction which have definitely caused you embarrassment in public and this has marred our very good father-son relationship in the past. “I take responsibility for my over reaction and disrespect to your person which is most regretted, I am indeed sorry. “I pray that God will give you the grace to let go of the past knowing fully well that I am human and therefore not infallible especially considering the circumstances surrounding my removal from office. “To further buttress my willingness to seek peace with you, I could recall that I had made several efforts to this effect by consulting your close allies in the persons of Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), Chief Omilani and Pastor Oyedepo amongst others. “Lastly, kindly disregard all insinuations or political blackmailing suggestive of my doing or saying anything contradicting my present disposition as contained in this letter. “My reconciliation with your goodself may not go down well with some of my political opponents, but you remain the father of all. “My wife sends her love and greetings. “With high regards. Signed Ayo Fayose. Obasanjo’s reply dated July 18, 2012 “ Dear Ayo, “I write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated June 26, 2012 pleading with me to forgive you, as you put it, for your action and inaction which have caused me embarrassment in the public. “As for the embarrassment and personal insult to me, forgiveness is divine and I will not withhold forgiveness since I believe that God will not withhold forgiveness for my inadequacies. “However, for me, the personal aspect can be handled by me but the party aspect has to be handled at the local, state and national levels of the Party. “I wish you all the best and God’s blessing.” Signed Olusegun Obasanjo. According to the associate of Obasanjo, it was based on Obasanjo’s intervention that other stakeholders of the party rallied round Fayose to facilitate his readimission into the party even amid stiff opposition from leaders of the PDP in Ekiti State. “One wonders why the same Fayose who wrote that letter is now against the president settling his differences with Obasanjo given the background that he (Fayose) wrote that letter of apology barely two years ago,” the source said. http://abusidiqu.com/obasanjo-tells-fayose-shut-releases-letter-apology-ekiti-governor-wrote-photo/

Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Youth League, has lamented the continuous delay by leadership of the party to make the result of the November 2 ward congress result known, saying the delay is already brewing tension and disaffection in the party. In a release made available to pressmen yesterday, the youths emphasised that at Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Youth League, has lamented the continuous delay by leadership of the party to make the result of the November 2 ward congress result known, saying the delay is already brewing tension and disaffection in the party. In a release made available to pressmen yesterday, the youths emphasised that at the ward congress, delegates were elected and the elected delegates are fully ready to participate in the primary election. Noting that if the party leadership decides to act contrary to the wishes of the party members, it may spell doom for the party in the 2015 general election, the youths added that there was no justifiable reason why the result is being delayed since classified report received by them from observers who witnessed the entire process indicated that the exercise was free, fair and credible. They said: “That there was no crisis in the build up to the ward congress and no crisis in the Lagos State chapter of our great party. That we hereby demand that the leadership of Lagos State PDP should without further delay make the outcome of that exercise public knowledge as a means of upholding the democratic culture we are known for. “That the result of the ward congress should be ratified by the national headquarters without alteration so as to douse the brewing tension any further delay in withholding the result may cause. “Let it be very clear that the delegates that were elected at the ward congress already know themselves and are eagerly waiting to participate in the primary. It will spell doom if they are disenfranchised from participating in a program they have worked hard for.” http://m.nationalmirroronline.net/article/pdp-youths-lament-non-ratification-of-ward-congress-result/?category-id=3&page=2&article-id=24172 |
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal, will soon declare his intention to join the Sokoto State governorship race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Though some members of the House had purchased the APC presidential nomination forms for Tambuwal, urging him to go for the highest office in the land, a chieftain of the Sokoto APC confided in LEADERSHIP last night that the stakeholders in the state preferred that the speaker contest the state’s governorship. The party stalwart, who sought anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, disclosed that necessary plans had been put in place to enable Tambuwal declare for the Sokoto State governorship seat on the platform of the APC. http://leadership.ng/news/390783/tambuwal-finally-settles-sokoto-governorship |
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, has joined the race to become the President of the country in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, which he defected to two weeks ago. Media aides of the Speaker, who joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party, confirmed that “friends and associates” bought the presidential nomination form of the party for Tambuwal, who became the Speaker of the House in 2011. Tambuwal’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Imam Imam, told our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday, “Earlier today, some friends and associates of the Speaker notified him that they have bought presidential nomination forms for him.” Our correspondent learnt that members of the APC in the House opted to pay for the nomination form for the Speaker to contest the 2015 presidential poll. The PUNCH gathered on Thursday that the members reportedly reached out to one another soon after it turned out that Tambuwal showed interest in the presidential race early this week. Attempts by the APC to pick a presidential candidate by consensus appeared to have failed after talks between the stakeholders reportedly collapsed by Wednesday. The contest was initially between former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso. But, The PUNCH learnt that the entry of Tambuwal into the race had further compounded the situation in the APC. Investigations showed that the lawmakers had reasoned that Tambuwal was a “poor speaker”, who would not be able to afford the N27m the APC fixed as the cost of the form. http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-reps-pay-for-tambuwals-presidential-form/ |
In what appears the end of the fierce face-off between President Goodluck Jonathan and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, the State Security Services has returned to the Emir his travelling documents seized from him on May 3 at the height of his disagreement with the President. The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso on Chieftaincy and Emirate Council Affairs, Tijjani Mailafiya, told journalists the SSS returned the Emir’s passport through the director in charge of its Kano state command, Bassey Itang. Mr. Mailafiya commended the Federal Government for releasing the passport six months after it was seized at the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano as the Emir made to board a Turkish airline flight for a planned trip to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj. He said with his passport now in his possession, the Emir was now better placed to serve his people locally and abroad, when necessary. The SSS had confiscated the Emir’s travelling documents as he made to board the May 3 11: 10p.m. Turkish Airlines flight to Turkey where he would have connected another flight to Saudi Arabia. The agency’s action was a contravention of the April 3 judgment of a Federal High Court in Lagos, which restrained it and the Nigeria Police from arresting or harassing the then CBN Governor or seizing his passport. Mr. Sanusi had sued after the SSS seized his passport on February 20 shortly after he arrived Lagos from Niger, where he had gone to attend a meeting of governors of central banks in the West African sub-region. He had then been suspended from office in absentia. Shortly after his plane landed at the ExecuJet Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, he was accosted by SSS operatives who detained him briefly and insisted he must surrender his passport. Speaking on the release of the passport Saturday, Mr. Mailafiya thanked the Kano state government for being in the vanguard of those who pressed for the release of the document. Some Nigerians may however see the handing over of the document as President Goodluck Jonathan’s direct gesture of saying everything is now alright between him and the Kano Emirate Council. After nearly a year of bitter relations, President Jonathan and the Emir met on October 30 in Abuja and reconciled differences that once drove both men to the extremes of their offices. Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was fired by the president on February 20 after accusing the government of diverting $20 billion oil revenues. The government denied the claim, and in turn, accused Mr. Sanusi of “financial recklessness”. After leaving office, Mr. Sanusi was appointed the Emir of Kano in June, assuming one of the most powerful traditional stools in Nigeria. His appointment by Kano State’s Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, a member opposition All Progressives Congress, was opposed by the presidency which ordered the emir’s office blockaded for days. The emir reportedly initiated peace moves, and the two men met for the first time in July during the breaking of the Muslim fast, a yearly routine in which the president meets top government officials who are Muslims and other prominent Islamic leaders in the country. Our sources say the October 30 meeting sealed the reconciliation moves between the two sides. The emir was accompanied to the meeting by all senior members of the Kano Emirate council, while Vice President Namadi Sambo, the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, Attorney General, Mohammed Adoke, and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Aminu Wali also attended the meeting. PREMIUM TIMES learnt that days after the meeting, the President asked the SSS to release the Emir’s passport as a further proof that he had buried the hatchet and was now ready for a warm relationship with the traditional ruler and his emirate. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/170799-jonathan-orders-sss-to-release-emir-sanusis-passport.html

Hopes for the release of the 219 girls abducted from a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, were dashed Friday after Abubakar Shekau, leader of the outlawed Jama'atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda'awati Wall Jihad, also known as Boko Haram, said in a new video clip that they have all been married off. Shekau also dismissed claims by the federal government that the group had agreed to a truce, stressing that even the schoolgirls who initially refused to accept Islam have now had a change of mind. "Anybody who says plans are underway for the release of the girls is just daydreaming. They would not be returned," he said in the video. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/top-stories/38346-shekau-dismisses-ceasefire-claim-in-new-video-says-219-chibok-girls-now-married

Reports reaching Daily Trust indicate that all the security details attached to Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal have been withdrawn by the Federal Government. Tambuwal formally announced his defection from the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) last Tuesday. A source told daily Trust: "Early this morning, few minutes after midnight to be precise, top level security report informed the Speaker that orders have been given for the withdrawal of his security details.” The withdrawal of his security details may not be unconnected with his defection from the PDP which didn't go down well with the party and the presidency. The PDP had on Tuesday called on Mr. Tambuwal to resign his position as Speaker having left the party that brought him to the House of Representatives in 2011. Tambuwal received a warm welcome on Wednesday, a day after his formal defection at the extraordinary national convention of the APC in Abuja when he showed up at the convention ground accompanied by 160 of his APC colleagues. He later addressed the convention expressing his delight in joining the APC and said he has embraced the APC platform as an instrument for genuine change and enduring national development. As the number four citizen of the country in the hierarchy of protocol, the Speaker is entitled to a round the clock security made up of men from the Police, Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Security (DSS). Our source said Tambuwal was told that “a verdict will be entered against him by a Court in Abuja on Thursday. The thing here is that why not wait for the verdict before any action is taken? " Efforts to reach the Speaker have so far proved unsuccessful. Calls and SMS sent to his spokesman Malam Imam Imam, have so far remained unanswered. Details coming… http://dailytrust.com.ng/daily/top-stories/38229-breaking-presidency-withdraws-tambuwal-s-security-details |
A man who claimed to be representing northeastern Nigerian islamist sect, Boko Haram spoke in Hausa language regarding the ongoing dialogue between the sect and the Nigerian government in an attempt to free abducted Chibok girls and negotiate a final ceasefire between Boko Haram and the Nigerian military. Below is the full transcript of the word Danladi Ahmadu who on Friday announced cease fire on behalf of Boko Haram, as monitored by SaharaReporters in Maiduguri. I am Danladi Ahmadu and a member of the group and also working as internal chief security officer. Apart from security work, I am working as a senior advisor in the group. First I wish to explain to you to know that, Imam Shekau is not dead as claimed because recently there was even communication and so he is alive. On the girls that we took from Chibok, all that we want before we free the girls is to get justice from the Nigerian state because there are many of our members that their business premises were destroyed, some killed and others in detention and many other oppression. Our people under detention are too many and they did nothing and many of them are just ordinary members. The girls are fine, they are eating food and in good shape except challenges of reading in the camp. It is a lie that they are exposed to serial abuses, they are fine and in good health condition. All that we want to say is, it is not everything happening that is from us; some criminals are carrying their own act in the name of our group. Regarding the cease fire, we are talking and it will continue when some people deeply involved are back from their trips. We are discussing with Nigerian government and it is one Hassan that is leading the team. He is directly working with Nigerian President and we will continue talking when our own people return. When it is clear the girls will be free and the world will see. By the special grace of God we have cease fire and by the grace of God we will in the future create avenue and people will hear it directly from our leader, Imam Shekau. http://abusidiqu.com/boko-haram-representative-danladi-ahmadu-reveals-condition-final-ceasefire-nigerian-govt/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook

Former Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, has picked the nomination form from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to contest the 2015 Senatorial election for Anambra North zone. Her decision a source said is based on popular demand after months of intense pressure from stakeholders in Anambra North Senatorial zone. Reacting to the development, former PDP governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu and former Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Edwin Pandola Okwuosa lauded the positive response from Oduah describing it as a sign of political and economic renaissance for the people. http://abusidiqu.com/former-aviation-minister-stella-odua-contest-senate-picks-pdp-nomination-form/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter

However, reports coming in today have indicated that the dreaded, unforgiving and tormenting group, Boko Haram have brutally killed the former Vice Chairman of Abadam Local Government Area in person of Abatcha Modu with three other occupants of his car – there are more lies than truth in this cease fire. Is the Nigerian military once again proceeding along the Boko Haram sponsorship path of ex-general Azubuike Ihejirika who always fought Boko Haram just a little and left them when he could have defeated them to allow them recover and forcibly recruit thousands more innocent local youth to train as a new army to be killed later in a continuous northeast de-population pogrom cycle? Our reports find that under the same phony cease fire, four (4) innocent villagers were killed this morning by the same members of Boko Haram in Yau Village of same Abadam Local Government Area. The Federal Government is in a hurry and trying to deceive the world and give fake glory to Goodluck Jonathan ahead of 2015, by seeking a cease fire with these terrorists, rather than crushing them and fighting this evil to conclusion. Bama, Gwoza, Marte, Ngala, Konduga and Dikwa are still under full control of Boko Haram yet Nigeria’s military plans to agree for these areas to be lost to the terrorists in this “cease-fire,” as though the northern people are senseless and do not deserve to return to their villages and lives. And what is the purpose of the $1 billion borrowed to fight Boko Haram, our analysts asked? Most have suggested that this money is for the 2015 presidential election and not to fight Boko Haram. Is the money being given to bribe Boko Haram to release the remaining abducted girls, alone, and to cease fire temporarily while the Jonathan leadership plans to leave Boko Haram in situ, to remain in the captured territories under a cease-fire arrangement so after he wins re-election then they can continue their sponsored mission to destroy the north? Why is the Nigerian military under Maj Gen Kenneth Tobiah Minimah, from Bayelsa even discussing a cease fire with these rag-tag bandits when Nigeria has the upper hand? Is this not treason? Our sources tell us that Goodluck Jonathan is under a lot of international pressure not to dare contest unless he can resolve the terror situation. It is obvious with this deadly and deceptive “cease-fire” that he took a $1 billion loan to bribe and buy peace till February 14th 2015 and not to destroy Boko Haram and free the occupied north. http://abusidiqu.com/inspite-ceasefire-claims-boko-haram-kills-former-vice-chairman-three-others-borno/

The immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has urged his successor, Ayodele Fayose, to study the handover notes on his four-year stewardship before passing unfavourable comments on his administration. According to Dr. Fayemi, the statement made by the new governor in his inaugural speech suggesting that the debt profile now stands as N N84billion was reckless and irresponsible. Speaking on behalf of the ex-governor in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Tayo Ekundayo, Fayemi’s Commissioner for Information, said all credit facilities obtained by the former administration were not only documented but were equally made public. Ekundayo recalled that Fayemi had approached the capital market in Lagos to obtain a N25billion bond which he claimed was judiciously used to finance various landmark capital projects across the state. He added that the Federal Government owed Ekiti State under Fayemi as much as N20billion, noting “Fayose should study the hand-over notes carefully before making unnecessary noise about the debt profile of Ekiti”. Ekundayo said over N14billion had been paid out of the N25billion. He adviced the new governor to settle down for business of governance rather than engaging in “cheap propaganda”. “Fayose should know that he has assumed a new status which is quite different from where he was before. “What I will advise him to do now is to settle down and see how he would improve on the legacies of the Kayode Fayemi administration”, he said. The ex-commissioner said further: “The truth of the matter is that our government took N25billion from the bond market and that is open to the public. We have paid about N14 billion out of it and the Federal Government is owing Ekiti nothing less than N20 billion. “I have been hearing that the debt profile of Ekiti State now stands at N84billion. I want to say that it is nothing near that figure. We have noticed that tendency in the past, but we have refused to join issues with him. “It is too early for Fayose to be talking about us. He should understand that there is a difference between being a candidate of a party and a chief executive of a state. http://abusidiqu.com/alleged-n84bn-debt-fayemi-hits-back-at-fayose/

Thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed the Benin Airport in jubilation to receive three principal officials of the State House of Assembly who were detained in Abuja since Thursday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of forgery. The lawmakers were the speaker, Uyi Igbe; majority leader, Philip Shaibu and majority whip, Folly Ogedengbe. Meanwhile, the police said it has arraigned 22 persons suspected to have participated in the attack on the legislative quarters last Saturday which left scores injured and over 36 vehicles and property destroyed. Addressing journalists at the airport shortly before they moved in a large convoy which caused vehicular traffic along Airport Road, the speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Uyi Igbe, said they were invited to Abuja expecting that they were to be accused of financial misappropriation but that they were shocked that they were accused of forgery of a signature to impeach former deputy speaker, Festus Ebea. “Last week, we were invited by the EFCC and they claimed that they were doing some investigations and that we will be able to contribute to it. So, we went there on Tuesday, on Wednesday we went to the EFCC office. And I was of the impression that the EFCC means Financial Crimes Commission, and therefore I had the impression that they were going to investigate financial misappropriations only for us to get there and issue that concerns the House of Assembly was what they brought up. “What they were telling us was that somebody alleged that we forged the signature among the signatures that we used to impeach the former deputy speaker, Festus Ebea. Hence, that was the reason they invited us. I was taken completely aback. But again, I am not too surprised because we all know that this is the systematic way that they use to harass and intimidate us. But I want them to know that this is only going to make us stronger, we will remain focused, we will keep our eyes on the ball and eventually we will score the goal. We will not shake, we will not be intimidated, we refused to be intimidated, we are back to the state,” he said. The majority leader also corroborated the speaker’s claim. http://leadership.ng/news/387443/jubilation-edo-apc-lawmakers-arrive-benin-efcc-detention |

Star actress Genevieve Nnaji was a guest on TV show ‘The Truth’ with Olisa Adibua. In the interview, she opened up on almost everything – from her fashion line to her career, life as a single mum, her ideal man and music. Let’s talk about relationships – are you currently in one? Are you looking at settling down at some point? I know you’ve heard that question a lot of times but tell us the truth now. “*takes a deep breath* I think everyone is prioritizing and so am I. It’s not like I don’t want to settle down, want somebody and until I find that person, there’s no thoughts of me settling down. I’m not looking, I’m a woman, we are not allowed to look.” When was the last time you had a boyfriend… do you have one now? “I don’t have a boyfriend now” Ok, so what are you looking for in a man? Your ideal guy, what are you looking for in a man? “I am that person that eats with her eyes, like I need to be attracted to you. Definitely. There has to be physical attraction that will draw me to you but at the end of the day, it’s your mind I’m going to fall in love with. I’m probably looking for a friend, someone who shares a like mind and somebody who is confident. Aww, I love tall guys. I’m short you have to think of the kids.” On marrying a guy she is richer than “How much money do I have? I’m not even that rich. I pay tax, I pay rents, I run an office, I have staff. So, talk about the money I spend, not the money I make.” she said. http://leadership.ng/entertainment/387339/im-rich-genevieve-nnaji

Former Vice President and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has denied the report that a former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, is lobbying for another aspirant and former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He said Tinubu would not make such moves, as the ex-Lagos State governor remained an elder statesman that would not be involved in favouritism. A national newspaper (not PUNCH) had reported on Wednesday that Tinubu, who is allegedly backing Buhari’s candidacy, might be picked as the General’s running mate. Atiku’s media adviser, Mr. Garba Shehu, who spoke to our correspondent on Friday, said it was expected that the leadership of the APC would be divided by the contest between the ex-vice president and Buhari. Shehu said, “It is expected; there will be people who will support Gen. Buhari and there will be those who will support Atiku. The party is not a military organisation. There is no regimentation and there will be no forced opinion on anyone. “We have no knowledge of that (Tinubu’s support for Buhari); we have no evidence of that. All we know is that he has resolved to play the role of a statesman and to stay above the fray. There is nothing on ground to suggest to us that Tinubu has moved away from that position.” Atiku’s spokesperson also denied reports that a recent statement by the ex-vice president suggested that Buhari is a fanatic. In what reports described as a veiled reference to Buhari, Atiku had in a statement issued on October 2, 2014 said, “I believe that the next president of our country, who, by the grace of God, will be produced by our great party, must be someone who is a unifier, bridge-builder and not someone who bears ethno-religious bias. Above all, he must embody a vision of a Nigeria for all.” Shehu, however, denied that the statement was targeted at Buhari. He said, “We did not say that. If you read our statement, it is not saying that. If you go to the market and make a general abusive statement, if somebody raises his hands to say ‘I am the one he is referring to,’ that is his own choice. “I am sure Gen. Buhari himself will agree that the country doesn’t need a fanatic. And we didn’t say he is a fanatic. We never said he is a fanatic; we never said that. If others say he is, that is their view of him. We are happy that the General himself has not raised his hands to say ‘I am the one you’re referring to.” http://www.punchng.com/news/tinubu-wont-back-buhari-against-atiku-ex-vps-aide/ |
The Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) has conferred on the Senate President, Senator David Mark with the ‘Distinguished Service Award for Golf in Africa’ in appreciation to the Senate President’s efforts towards promoting the game of golf. President of AGC, Ambassador Joe Malanji also named Senator Mark as the pillar of Golf in Africa at the closing ceremony of the President’s cup of the AGC tournament at the Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe, Zambia. While conferring the award on the Senate President, Ambassador Malanji said that he (Mark) had in his personal capacity sponsored and mentored a large contingent of amateur golfers into the professional cadre. According to him, “This is in addition to your other significant investments in golf such as sponsoring national and international tournaments and the establishment of the 18 hole international championship golf course, the Otukpo Golf and Country Club, which is open free to all users. This singular act is unprecedented in golfing history.” In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Senate President, Paul Mumeh, Ambassador Malanji was quoted to have said that the AGC was particularly impressed with the International Academy built by Mark where young boys and girls are trained free of charge and provided with the golfing kits. Receiving the award, Senator Mark who was represented by his Special Adviser on Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Peter Deshi expressed appreciation for the honour and promised to continue to promote the game. Senator Mark was optimistic that with more emphasis on Sports where youths could be actively engaged, most of the societal vices plaguing the nations of the world would have been curtailed. He said that the Nigerian government has embarked on deliberate policy to promote sports not just for competitions but also as a vehicle for promoting peace, unity and cohesion amongst the citizenry. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/sen-mark-pillar-golf-africa/

The issue of sabotage as far as the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents group have is concerned has resonated several times since the war began. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and national leaders of the party have reportedly clashed over the stoppage of consensus endorsement of their candidature and others in their states for the 2015 election. The aggrieved governors on Friday kicked against the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) decision to stop them from further endorsing candidates that would succeed them after their tenures elapses, The Nation reports. The governors, who alleged that the NWC was acting in connection with the presidency to stop endorsement accused the presidency and the NWC of ‘double standards’ after President Goodluck Jonathan had benefited from the same consensus endorsement. Some of the governor opined that they may request the National Convention of the party to revisit the endorsement of Jonathan by the National Executive Committee (NEC). It would be recalled that on Thursday, Prof. Wale Oladipo, the National Secretary of the party in a statement declared null and void the endorsement of governorship, senatorial and other candidates by the governors and state chapters of the party. It ordered the states chairmen and governors to stop such endorsements. Meanwhile, the annulment of such endorsement would have affected candidates like the Senate President, David Mark, who is eyeing the fifth term in office, Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), some outgoing governors already marked for the Senate like Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state; Benue state Governor, Gabriel Suswam, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta state, Governor Saidu Dakingari of Kebbi state, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia state, Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu state, Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina state, Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state as well as Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state.
