Most time, changing gasket is not usually the solution to sever overheating. Your mechanic should have inspected for the cause of the overheating in the first place, then have the block and cylinder head checked for cracks and warpage before slapping a new gasket to it.

Guru in the house, my Opel zafira space wagon is over heating. I changed the gasket not quite ago. After a week, the over heating continue.
