You should be able to raise a draft (an international one, issued by Diamond Bank's correspondence banki.e citibank). You will be able to deposit the draft in a bank in Canada. quote author=amyames post=62296334]Hi everyone!

Great thread, very informative. I have a few questions regarding proof of funds.

1. I know they sometimes ask for this at the port of entry, but do they actually check the amount, that it meets their minimum? For instance, I had to dip into my savings and it's now about 9,500 CAD, whereas the minimum amount for a single person is 12,300 CAD. Could this be a problem for me? I have heard that you can be denied entry right there due to proof of funds issues. Will they actually check if it's up to 12,300 CAD?

2. How to transport these funds? I've looked into opening a Canadian account from here, but the process is tedious and involves getting a lawyer to verify my documents. I want something simpler like using a bank draft in my name - has this worked for anyone? Diamondbank is really giving me hell these days and I'm nervous about trusting their services, especially since I won't be here to deal directly if it there's a glitch.

Please share your experience on this. I'll be much obliged. Thanks.
Thanks Owols. But I actually just confirmed from Diamondbank and they said they don’t issue bank drafts outside the country. They don’t do travelers cheques either, which is similar.

Hello everyone.

1. Is there anyone who successfully opened a Canadian bank account before leaving Nigeria. Many banks advertise that you can, but when I attempt it, they say they don’t do that for Nigerians. Right now only Royal Bank (RBC) has agreed to open one, but it requires getting a lawyer to certify all my documents, and also mailing physical copies to them!
Is there any other bank that offers this service with less wahala, eg. sending scanned copies? I’ve tried Scotiabank, TD, HSBC, CIBC, with no luck.

2. Did anyone use bank draft as proof of funds when landing? Do you need to know the Canadian bank you’re paying into, or can they just make out the draft in your name?

Your suggestions are most welcome.

We were not asked and i'm yet to see anyone that has been asked for proof of funds. Only question they ask which is the same everywhere is how much cash you have on you. If its over 10,000 you may be asked to show it.

Some are told to print bank statement and declare all your live savings to show you are as capable as Banky W. I was told same but after i read the form, collected a second one and limited amount to only cash.

We only declared cash on hand which was about 7 times less than proof of funds submitted to IRCC and did not print any bank statement as back up (was like worst case scenerio, will show them internet banking but that never happened).

Anyone who was asked can shed more light.
Thanks alterego.

Lol at Banky W! I pray i also get a lax agent to screen me. Most people seem to have your experience too. I’ve only read about this issue in a couple of forums. Hopefully I don’t have to go borrowing to make it up.

I don't think they expect anyone to have that much cash on hand. I was asked how much i had and i said what i put on my form. I wasn't asked for proof.
Hi. Thanks for your response. But i don’t mean cash per se. Just what money you’re bringing in, whether in form of bank draft, cash, or in a bank statement.

MummyJaygirls:
The country to send it to will be stated on ur PPR letter, if u reside in Nigeria, its most likely Accra, the address for Accra office is

High Commission of Canada | Haut commissariat du Canada
P.O. Box 1639
42 independence Avenue, Accra, Ghana
Phone | Tél.: +233 (030) 2211521
Hi MummyJaygirls. I'm in the same situation too - no mailing address in my PPR email. You said "most likely Accra". Have you seen any situation where it is somewhere else? Just want to confirm before I send mine off. Thanks.

perks:
When u receive ur passport pick up mail notification, print it and add ur letter authorising DHL to pick d passport on ur behalf. Take dem to the DHL office and pay the fees (abt 20k or so). DHL picks up passport and deliver to u.
Great. Thank you so much perks. That was very helpful.

Congrats on d PPR. Pls share ur timeline.

Meanwhile ur passport should be sent to Accra.
Canadian High Commission
42, independence avenue
Accra.

Use DHL for ur own good. Don't worry abt prepaid return. When ur passport is stamped and ready they will notify you. Just print d mail, add authority letter and take to the DHL office, pay the courier fee and DHL will pick ur passport from Accra and deliver to u here in naija.
Thanks, @perks The authority letter idea is great. So I will then call DHL and ask them to pick up for me? They will likely charge for that. So won't it be the same as including a prepaid return? Just asking for clarification please.

I'm new here, but I assume you mean the timeline for my application. This is it:

IELTS taken 21 Jan
IELTS result
WES ECA received 27 Apr
Express entry profile created 27 Apr
ITA received 8 June
PPR received 31 Aug

Hello everyone. I need your help please.

I just received my PPR, passport request, and they recommend I send via VFS Global. They also said I should use DHL if sending other documents along with the passport. So I want to send via DHL or UPS, but they never included a mailing address in the email.

Am I sending to the Canadian High Commission in Lagos, Abuja, or Accrahuh
Also, who can I address the envelope to (for eg. "Attn: Immigration Officer"wink?
Also can anyone confirm if DHL or UPS do this prepaid return service between Nigeria and Ghana (in case I'm sending there).

Any help is appreciated, guys. Cheers.
Nairaland GeneralHelp With Submitting Passport To Canadian High Commission by amyames(op): 11:55pm On Aug 31, 2017
Hello everyone. Please I need your input on the following:

I just received a PPR (passport request) from IRCC, to stamp my immigrant visa for permanent residency. I was given two options for sending it to the Canadian High Commission:
1. DHL - to be used if sending with additional documents.
2. VFS Global - to be used if sending passport alone.

They also asked for passport photos, updated family info (Form 1MM008), medical exam and police clearance (though I have submitted the last two previously). Because of this, I want to use DHL. There was a link to VFS Global, but no given mailing address if using DHL directly. So here are my questions:

1. I can easily find the addresses online, but which am I sending to: Canadian High Commission (Abuja) or Deputy High Commission of Canada (Lagos)?
2. Who do I address the package to? For example "Attn: Immigration Officer"...or something like that?
3. Has anyone had to fill Form IMM008 and Additional Family Information forms? They want me to send these as well. IMM008 is called Generic Application Form for Canada and is easy to fill out. The second one is Form IMM5406E. Do I fill the section for siblings and parents, or do I leave it blank cos they're not traveling with me and are not my dependents? (I am single and traveling alone). Here's the link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5406E.pdf

Please see excerpt of the mail below. Any help on any of the above questions is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION WILL BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE YOUR VISA:

☐ UPDATED FAMILY INFORMATION: You must advise us of any change in your marital status or family composition. All family members must be listed on your IMM008 and Additional Family Information forms. Failure to comply may result in a delay in the issuance of your visa.
☐ PASSPORTS: Ensure you read and follow the points below:
There is an individual passport for each family member accompanying you to Canada. Children must have their own passports.
Each passport is valid for at least 6 months from the time you come for the visa.
Each passport has sufficient free pages (two required for our visa, plus pages for any transit visa)
☐ TWO (2) PHOTOS FOR EACH FAMILY MEMBER:
These photographs must follow the photo specifications outlined in the following link: www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/pdf/5445EB-e.pdf. Ensure they are taken with a WHITE BACKGROUND and that the SIZE OF THE FACE is between 31 – 36 mm. Photos should not be stapled, glued or pinned (you can paperclip or attach them using an envelope). The photographs must be unblemished as they will be used to produce your Permanent Resident Card once you are in Canada.
☐ MEDICAL EXAMS AND POLICE CLEARANCES: This is relevant only if specifically requested and not already provided. If you must provide these documents, be sure to complete your medical exams and submit your police clearances either AT THE SAME TIME or BEFORE you submit your passport.
