Culture / When Women Seek To Trap Men With " Kayan Mata" by AN24: 12:49pm On Jan 06, 2020
By Tobi Adebayo

Inputing "kayan" in the search bar of photo-sharing app, Instagram will bring an endless list of vendors, both genuine and swindlers, who all have one thing in common; they all sell Kayan Mata.

The origin of Kayan Mata, which means "women's things", can be traced to the Northern part of Nigeria. They are herbs that function as aphrodisiacs and sexual enhancement potions to spice up a couple's sex life.

Unfortunately, they are now being peddled as love potions that can be used to extort rich men, keep men glued or make men obey every wish and command of women that use these special herbs.

There are uncountable vendors on Instagram that sell these potions to their customers, alongside the belief that administering these potions would enable them wrap men around their fingers with ease.

These sellers post made-up product reviews and wads of props money (dollars) to sell their products to desperate ladies who are eager to land "big fish".

Some of the ridiculous names they tag these products include; make him do as I wish, favour soap, attraction soap, attraction oil, attraction powder, money soap, stingy man kit, money frog, and so on.

A graduate of Mass Communication from Nile University, Hauwa Abubakar, who spoke with AN24.net to shed more light on the menace said, "only naive women would fall for the nonsense that these Instagram people are selling. I laugh when I see some of the things that they claim are kayan mata.

"Kayan Mata, in the North, is usually packed for a newly wedded bride to enable her enjoy her husband sexually. It is not meant to trap anybody or attract anyone.

"Of course, good and enjoyable sex would make any man lose his mind and stick to his woman. He would also do things to make her happy like gifting her money and other things. It does not mean that the man is enchanted. It simply means the man is being appreciative," Hauwa said.

When asked about the "favour kit, money kit", Hauwa said those are not considered kayan mata and but voodoo items.

"Kayan mata is nothing more than performance enhancing, libido boosting herbs. Some are even medicinal as they can cure infections. Anything outside of that is juju."

A student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Olufunke Lawal, accused self-acclaimed therapist, Hauwa Mohammed, popularly known as Jaaruma, as the one who allegedly started the trend of "making women believe that kayan mata is enchanting."

"That lady was the one that started this whole thing. All she sells to the gullible women is a fruit called Gorontula in its liquid form. That fruit is only grown in some parts of the North. It is a natural aphrodisiac that also help women that have problem with lubrication down there.

"Her actions has given birth to a long chain of copycats. Nigerians are very good at facing a direction whenever it appears that it is thriving.

"It's just so sad that young ladies are falling for the deceit of these kayan mata sellers. A simple mix of coconut, dates and tigernuts, ground together, sieved and served as liquid will do also do trick.

"Eating fruits like pineapples and watermelons also helps. I believe it is only greedy women that would keep wasting their money on the nonsense being sold on Instagram," Olufunke concluded.

Politics / IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu Loses Father by AN24: 5:01pm On Dec 06, 2019
Eze Israel Kanu, father of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has passed away, four months after his mother, Ugoeze Sally Kanu died.

The Abia State commissioner for information, John Okiyi Kalu, described the news as a rude shock and exalted his sterling contributions to the development of his community.

“It was with rude shock that we learnt of the passing on of one of our great royal fathers, HRM Eze Sir I.O. Kanu, the Egwu Ukwu II of Afaraukwu Ibeku, at the age of 86 years.

“His unwavering love and sterling contributions to the development of his community in particular, and Abia State in general are well documented. No doubt, HRM left a lasting legacy and an indelible impression on the minds of Ndigbo everywhere in the world.

“Death is not the end of man but a necessary passage to a better place in eternity where there is no strife, sorrow or pain. Indeed, Papa has only gone to that better place.

“This should be our consolation so that his beloved family and the community he left behind do not continue to weep since we all know that he is resting peacefully now.

“As a government, we assure the family of late Eze Sir I.O. Kanu and Afaraukwu community of our continued support in all ways we can to help ameliorate the pains of his departure,” Kalu said

TV/Movies / More Nigerians Are Now In Love With Porn Movies — Krissyjoh, Adult Film Maker by AN24: 3:24pm On Nov 28, 2019
Krissyjoh Chris, a Lagos based Nollywood Film Producer and African adult movie star, in an interview with AN24, said that Nigeria is not fully civilised when it comes to adult film making.

The former street vendor insists there is nothing like full nudity in Nollywood as regulators would not allow such movie see the light of day.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Christian John, popularly known as Krissyjoh. I am a Nollywood film producer and African adult movie star currently based in Pretoria, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria. I am a native of Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.

I have produced movies like Amaka Disappoint Me, Balanced Sin, One By One, Trust No One, The Next 7 Minutes, Ghetto Virgins, Dangerous Consequence, The Prey, and many others.

I have also worked with popular Nollywood Movie Stars, the likes of Emmanuel Totolos also known as Labista, Natty Bruce, Chinwetalu Agu, Joyce Kalu, Prince Nwafor, Ernest Obi, Shan George, Destiny Etiko, Rubby Ojiakor, Fred Ebere (Ten Kobo), Phillip Okoro, Dike Osinachi (Apama), Harry B, Chris Bassey and many others.

I hold a Bachelor of Film Arts from the Open Window Institute, Centurion, South Africa. I started film making after spending much money but achieved nothing from my first music album titled No Vex in 2009.

I recently signed a production contract in France with a popular film company Marc Dorcel TV, Paris, France where I function as a content producer.

What's your take on Nigerians' view on nudity and sex scenes in Nollywood?

Actually, pornography is not our culture but currently, the porn culture in Nigeria is growing. There are so many porn producers and pornstars in the country creating online contents to earn a living. Nigeria is one of the countries that has the highest online porn views.

So many people criticise nudity in Nollywood but same people can't stay without watching porn. Nigeria is full of hypocrites. Porn is not actually made for everyone. It is for adults and that is why it is called adult film.

I think in real Nollywood movies, there's nothing like full nudity because of the censors board. Nollywood sex scenes is different from Nollyporn settings.

Nollywood sex scenes, which producers try to explicitly portray, always happen beneath the blanket. You get to hear some crazy moans and after 1 or 2 minutes, the act is over.
That kind of movie can be viewed by everyone not only adults, and there is nothing to criticise there.

You produced a movie where the entire female cast were bare-chested. What inspired that?

That was just an ancient story, there were nothing like sex scenes.

I was just trying to portray the ancient culture where women walked around villages, bare-chested without men being attracted. It's just like how it was in some kingdoms in South Africa back in the days.

What's your take on the "Asaba actors" and "Cinema actors" tags?

Asaba actors and cinema actors? It's not funny though. I used to get angry whenever I hear that "Cinema Face" tag. To me, any actor anywhere, who is good at what they do, can appear in any movie, whether they are in Asaba, Lagos, Enugu etc...

What do you think about regulators and their response to your movies?

Regulators have nothing to do about my adult film because I don't sell hard copies (DVDs). I only upload them online, specifically on my website, nollyporn.com, which is hosted in California, USA.

If I produce an adult film to sell on DVD, I will lose because the censors board will not approve it and besides, no marketer will agree to distribute it. Only online porn is fully and legally accessed in Nigeria.

Currently, piracy is not really affecting the producers again because they are not relying on one distribution source, which is the marketer. Producers are now making money from DSTV, YouTube, Cinemas etc.

Some marketers are the pirates. For instance, I will mass produce 10,000 copies of film for you to sell, you will secretly go and mass produce 5k copies and sell without my knowledge.

How do you personally see sexism within the social value of the country?

I can't talk about sexism for now since it doesn't affect my ministry. Sexism is everywhere, not only in Nigeria. It affects the girls most. Sex discrimination is normal!

Is there an association of adult film makers in Nigeria?

No. Only in South Africa. Maybe with time, there'll be one.

Politics / Enough Death Sentences To Go Round by AN24: 1:55pm On Nov 15, 2019
By Akinleye Segun

How can we forget those who flagrantly disobey court orders? We need to find a proper punishment for them also. How do we propose they die? Their death should not be convenient since they have turned deaf ears to the law. Having their heads cut off at the market square will send a message to others who might want to toe their path.

The Senate, this week, achieved the seemingly difficult task of uniting Nigerians when it proposed a bill seeking the death penalty for hate speech offenders. People from all walks of life, proletariats and bourgeoisie irrespective of the political divide, joined forces to condemn such an anti-human rights move. Football had perhaps been the only unifying factor in a nation divided by ethnic, political and religious factors but the fear of speaking one’s way to death was enough to make the people speak with one voice.

Sponsor of the Bill, Deputy Chief Whip, Aliyu Abdullahi, has come under series of attacks that directly falls under the ‘anti-hate speech’ spectrum, the exact thing the senator seeks to put an end to. The Bill also aims to establish a commission, the Independent National Commission for Hate Speeches, to see to the total elimination of hate speech in the country.

The Bill says someone perpetrating hate speech is: “A person who uses, publishes, presents, produces, plays, provides, distributes and/or directs the performance of any material, written and/or visual, which is threatening, abusive or insulting or involves the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, commits an offence, if such person intends thereby to stir up ethnic hatred, or having regard to all the circumstances, ethnic hatred is likely to be stirred up against any person or person from such an ethnic group in Nigeria.”

It says hate speech occurs when:“A person subjects another to harassment on the basis of ethnicity for the purposes of this section where, on ethnic grounds, he unjustifiably engages in a conduct which has the purpose or effect of (a) violating that other person’s dignity or (b) creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for the person subjected to the harassment.”

The above is enough to send jitters down the spine of Nigerians, especially in an era where fake news has become the norm. However, if the Senate thinks the bill is in the best interest of all, then, there are few amendments to the bill Nigerians would love to see.
Nigerians are in dire need of a bill that will criminalise appearing in court in wheelchairs, stretchers, or the like, especially when the culprits are people known to have mismanaged or stolen billions of nairas. Administering lethal injections will take them out of their sudden ailments, whatever it is.

In addition to that, as hate speech offenders have their necks wrung with ropes, those who renegade on campaign promises should also stare down the barrel of the gun. They should be given the ‘Anini’ treatment with their backs against barrels and executed openly. By doing that, Nigeria will gradually be moving to the promised land.

How can we forget those who flagrantly disobey court orders? We need to find a proper punishment for them also. How do we propose they die? Their death should not be convenient since they have turned deaf ears to the law. Having their heads cut off at the market square will send a message to others who might want to toe their path.

There is the need for a paragraph in the bill that will pronounce death by burning for those caught on camera stuffing dollars into their ‘agbada’ or ‘babariga’, depending on the name we give the outfit. All that money adding to the glow of the flames will be poetic justice.

Might we also recommend jungle justice for those bribe collecting law enforcement officers, whether in black, grey, yellow and wine, blue on black or tattered uniforms? They should be clubbed to death with sticks, irons, stones, machetes, or whatever will do the work for the mob. You can imagine that for once, bribery will be a thing of the past amongst our law enforcement agents.

There has to be a way to ensure that those who go to their places of work to sleep during national discuss do not go free. It is pathetic when those who live on different allowances are seen on national television sleeping away the hope of their various constituents while those who put them there, toil night and day to feed. Those set of people should be pushed to their death. A speeding truck or fast-moving train will do the trick.

For the criminals, who clothe themselves in religious robes, judgment for them should be instant. Plucking out the eyes that led them to sin, as advised in the Christian holy book, The Bible, will suffice. After that, we let them rot in the wilderness (we should be able to find one in the north) where the vultures will feast on them. That should be corresponding to whatever crime they commit.

Lastly, those leaders, who at one point or the other, have allowed the masses to suffer with their anti-people policies, can be allowed to fight to the death. It would be ironic, having them in an arena, like in ancient Rome, with swords dangling on their hands, seeing them fight for their lives the way they embezzled national funds. Don’t you think Nigerians would have the last laugh?

Celebrities / It Is Better To Be A Second Wife Than Die Old And Single — Actress Sylvia Ukaatu by AN24: 2:02pm On Nov 11, 2019
Nollywood actress, Sylvia Ukaatu has reiterated her stance on women being incomplete without men and marriage.

Ukaatu made headlines on Sunday with her now viral post on Instagram where she wrote:

“We are not complete without a man, get yourself a shield over you even if it takes being someone’s 2nd, 3rd women be married. For the records, we all are not destined to be someone’s first… Don’t be deceived on HOPE until time eludes you,” she posted.

In a chat with AN24, the actress said that her opinion remains the same and she does not care about the public’s reaction because the truth is bitter.

“My previous post attracting lots of negative comments is not a bad thing, neither am I pained about their snide comments about me. The fact remains that not everyone would agree with my opinion. I have stated it and I don’t care how people feel about it.

“Besides, I didn’t tag anyone on the post. It was meant for my timeline so I can’t fathom why people are having sleepless nights over it. Most of those reacting negatively find it hard to accept the truth.

“Instead of flying different countries with another woman’s husband to catch trips and all, why not be his second wife instead? I still think it is better to be a second wife than die old and single,” she stated.
