Politics / Jibrin Of Sudan And The Audacity Of Fake News by anambraeyes: 6:57am On Nov 17, 2018
By Dr Ugoji Egbujo

Tales were only once told only by moonlight. The sun gave way to the moon and people gathered to wind down. They shared tales , fables , lullabies and all.

Those tales were useful because they were not to be believed. Children were told scary fairy tales so they wouldn’t wander from home. No one actually wanted to deceive another. Now men gather children and fellow adults and with constipated faces tell them political fairy tales in broad daylight. Politicians and the clergy now concoct tales and tell them without songs. And force lumps of rough tales down throats as they would force medicine down the throat of sick children.

The scary thing is no one really knows if these modern day tale bearers know their stories are imaginary. And if those who hear them know where to keep them. Now adults are told political fairy tales. They nod like frightened children. And hold on to them like scriptures. About a year ago many said Buhari had died in London. Fayose was certain he was in the mortuary. He said he had the pictures.

Many of those who celebrated Buhari’s death went dumb when he returned. Fayose gave up the ownership of secret intelligence channels around the president that once made him the favorite of gossip magazines. He never talked about the mortuary pictures we once knew he had under his pillow.

But Nnamdi Kanu, the owner of the late dog named Jack didn’t take Buhari’s recovery and return calmly. He looked closely at the recuperated man and shook his head. He declared that the returnee was an impostor of the Buhari that died in London. He said his men of the Biafra Secret Service had reliable intelligence that a certain Jibrin from Sudan had been co opted to fill in for the dead Buhari.

Ordinarily, with a little song, that would have made a good African fairy tale. But without a song, and without the somnolence of moonlight, Nnamdi Kanu’s tale raised eyebrows. Many amongst his apostles who had longed to kiss the feet of the Director of Radio Biafra couldn’t help but doubt their god. But their unbelief sparked anger in the supreme freedom fighter. He labeled those who couldn’t see Jibrin de Sudan in Buhari as morons.

They knew if they persisted in their unbelief they would become rebels, saboteurs. So they started to believe. Some could only go half the way. So they deemed their supreme leader’s Jibrin theory a useful exaggeration. So Jibrin became, in their hearts, an apt metaphor of a disappointing president. So they too, these intellectuals, could say the healthy Buhari is Jibrin. Cynics hissed. They had always doubted the firmness of Nnamdi Kanu’s grasp of reality.

After he expounded Jibrin, they included hallucinations in the long list that must be overcome during any royal rehabilitation for the supreme leader. After Jibrin instructed a python dance and the Biafra secret service smuggled Nnamdi Kanu into a hole outside the country we all thought the Idea of Jibrin had been buried. But Jibrin of Sudan has lived on.

A certain pastor mounted the pulpit a few days ago and spoke about Jibrin. He said it took him a while but he has seen that the Buhari in Aso Rock isn’t the Buhari that went to London for medical treatment. The pastor spoke with priestly earnestness. He must have acquired the special spirit of discernment as the IPOB leader.

The problem with fake news is that it is potentially a weapon of mass destruction. It is true that corruption can kill Nigeria. But perhaps corruption is a slow virus. The plague that took apart Rwanda in a few months in 1994 was not corruption. It was hatred spawned by fake news.

It was the fake news about the existence of weapon off mass destruction that brought Iraq to precipitate ruins. If a picture of Buhari surfaces and his nose appears a little flatter than the beak of a woodpecker murmurs about Jibrin will fill the air. Corruption is ruthless. But it is fake news that has the stubbornness and ruthlessness of a Californian wild fire. The elections are here. Tempers are volatile. Idle poorly educated young men are the combustible dry wood . They abound. Ethnicity and religion are the high velocity winds. They are here. Fake news is the fire. Its factories are sprouting everywhere. Firefighters could be useless.

Nigeria is therefore particularly vulnerable. It has many pyromaniacs in positions of influence. Jibrin, fortunately, is not the sort of news that can set the country instantaneously ablaze. But the sheer stupidity of the story and its baffling tenacity must trouble the lovers of peace. If the most outlandish of political fairy tales can survive for so long and manage to intrigue minds that claim sophistication then the country is exceptionally vulnerable . Fayose may have dropped off the bus. But he and his colleagues set it on that ruinous path. If he hadn’t declared that he had mortuary pictures perhaps the demons wouldn’t have found tilled grounds on which to sow their ‘Jibrinous’ hallucinations . What Jibrin does by its sheer ridiculousness is to prepare the ground for a future mass hypnosis.

Fake news , like weeds , must abound. But if allowed to flourish only in beer parlors and motor parks then the society may not be harmed. Real damage is risked when fake news takes residence in government houses and houses of God. And when it occupies radio and television stations. Ordinary people took part in the holocaust and roasted ordinary people. Deliberate insistent misinformation was all that was needed.

Politics / Breaking: Aisha Buhari Attacks APC, Calls It A Party That Condones Inpunity by anambraeyes: 9:33am On Oct 07, 2018
This post below was made by a Facebook influencer, Emmanuel Tobechukwu Aniagoh, about Aisha Buhari and APC.

In a series of tweets early this morning, the wife of President Buhari, Aisha M. Buhari, from her official tweeter handle, accused the All Progressive Congress of double standard, saying that the party currently led by Comr. Adam Oshiomole, do no longer uphold democratic tenets but has allowed inpunity to rein supreme.

Here her, "All Progressives Congress being a party whose cardinal principle is change and headed by a comrade/ activist whose main concern is for the common man, yet, such impunity could take place under its watch."

She went on to give indication that she might not be supporting APC, the party where her husband, Buhari, is the presidential flagbearer for the 2019 general election.

"Given this development one will not hesitate than DISSOCIATE from such unfairness, be neutral and speak for the voiceless."

Things are beginning to get worse for President Buhari. This may spell the beginning of implosion for APC but it is certain Buhari home is now divided.

Politics / Obiano Gives Quit Notice To Okada Riders In Onitsha, Awka by anambraeyes: 8:46pm On May 22, 2018
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Mr James Eze, released a press statement after the state exco today, disclosing the state plan to ban Okada riders in two major cities.

Read below

Commercial motorbike (Okada) operators in Onitsha and Awka, the capital city of Anambra State have been given until July 1, 2018 to change to another trade or vacate the two cities for good.

This is one of the many resolutions from the meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council today, Tuesday, May 22, 2018. The ultimatum given to Okada operators in the two cities is part of the overall strategy adopted by the state government to deepen its crackdown on crime and restore sanity to Onitsha and Awka.

Similarly, residents of some make-shift structures on the banks of the River Niger stretching from Onitsha to Ogbaru have also been given until August 1, 2018 to relocate from those places along the waterfront as they have been marked for demolition. This is also a part of the campaign against the men of the underworld in the state.

The deadlines given to Okada operators and the shanty-dwellers are intended to offer them enough time to make the necessary adjustments in order to fit into the emerging socio-cultural scenario in the state.

Other far ranging resolutions of the Council include the establishment of a Committee on Environment with a mandate to clean up Anambra State, clearing out garbage dumps and overflowing drainages and demolishing illegal structures that are either obstructing the way or ruining the aesthetics of the Anambra environment. The committee is expected to sustain the on-going campaign to put an end to roadside trading that often leads to avoidable traffic congestion and return sanity to the roads and highways of Anambra State.

Re-inforcing the hard line posture of his administration against street-trading and erection of illegal structures across the state, Governor Willie Obiano specifically commended the agencies behind the on-going demolition exercise in the state, urging them to sustain the momentum until the state begins to wear a better look. He also sent a note of warning to owners of illegal structures along the famous Awka Road in Onitsha, saying that very soon the demolition team would sweep through the area.

He frowned at the current practice by Awka residents who sometimes dump their waste bins right in the middle of Zik Avenue and warned that anyone caught doing that would pay a heavy penalty.

The governor further announced that important public places like the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Alex Ekwueme Square and the vast premises of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) would soon be given a facelift and properly remodelled to fit into the dynamics of the day.

According to him, the Amphitheatre of the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre would be redesigned to serve as a stadium and completed as soon as possible.

The governor also frowned at the spate of daring encroachment on government land in the state by speculators and warned that there would be severe consequences for anyone who wanted to flagrantly break the law.

Politics / Nigerian Youths And Our 'crab Mentality' - A Call For Unity by anambraeyes: 9:53pm On Feb 13, 2018
Since our dear country has now metamorphosed into an animal kingdom, where snake, a carnivore now evolve into swallowing money, I think it won’t be wrong to express my thoughts using crab as an analogy for the purpose of driving home my point.

With the way things are going in this country, I won’t be surprise to wake up one morning and see an headline that says “Nigeria For Sale”. But God forbid. For too long, our leaders have taken us for a ride and unfortunately, as youths, we’ve given up on ourselves and at the mercy of our inefficient leaders.

Where are the Student Union Governments and Youth Bodies, where are the pressure groups? They either are no longer the voice of the youths as they claim or their voices bought over by the same cabal stagnating the nation. Our value system is corroded.

Dear youth what is our stake in this country? Why are we charting a wrong course, why are we channeling our energy towards things that add no value to our collective existence?

When you take a good look at the composition of the Buhari’s administration at the federal level, tell me where you will find the presence of youth?

There are no youths and all the ministers are either middle age or senior citizens. And yet we are not asking the right question.

And yet, we come on social media to pick on our fellow youths, throwing tantrum, tearing ourselves down and fighting over the same old breeds of Leaders who don’t value us or consider us worthy enough to take up leadership positions.

Over 60% of our population is young people of 36 and under but yet with this reality we don’t want to leverage on that.

You see, these incorrigible leaders and old breed politicians that subjected this country to the sorry state it found itself, continue to device means to steal and ruin of future but rather than counter them by organizing ourselves, by speaking and registering our displeasure nationally and by mobilizing and protesting peacefully, by collapsing into political parties and getting elected, what most of us do is to tear each other down on social media for the very same public office holders that we complain about.

What is wrong with us? This attitude of pulling ourselves down, seeing an igbo youth trading tackle with an Hausa-fulani youth or a Yoruba Youth calling an Ijaw Youth names because our leaders divided us through ethnic line and we are acting like youths with no mind of our own.

I called this the crab mentality. If you catch crabs, you do not need to cover the basket or vessel where you put them in because once one of them starts to climb out, the others will drag it back down and so they act as a police against each other for the benefit of their owner.

We are misplacing our priority as youth of this great nation. Imagine the kind of zeal and dedication we show to European Football. I’ve read stories about our youths fighting and even in extreme cases, killing one another just because of rivalry over their football club.

Our unity alone should not start and end in sport. It is only when super eagle play that Nigerian Youths are united. That is when you go on social media and Yoruba, Igbo, hausa, Ijaw, Kalabari, etc, are the same.

If we were to channel this same zeal to building unity amongst ourselves so that we can have a common front in 2019, there will definitely be a change in the political structure of Nigeria.

These recycled leaders won’t back down for us, they don’t care if we are hungry, they don’t care if our population is 60%, they are not scared if we join political parties because they will always structure the process to favour them.

But what they are afraid of and won’t want us to have is been united, they are afraid of our unity. They know that when we are united, we will be easy to break down. They are happy are seeing us fighting like cat and dog on social media. These politicians you kill yourselves for are not worth dying for, they use us against ourselves. They heat of the polity and leave us to finish ourselves up because they dangle peanut before us and promise us a better tomorrow that never comes.

I call on you, Youths from the North, Youths from the South, this division must stop. Let’s not look at each other as ‘Aboki’, ‘IPOB’, ‘Afonja’ or other such derogatory names that we use to label ourselves on social media.

We live in a country where anything is possible. Today, I am happy to see youths defying all odds to come all out to declare their interest to run for an elective position through different political parties.

The era of youths becoming only bag carriers or at most PA’s for these redundant politicians is over. I believe that any youth has the capacity to declare and run for Presidency in 2019.

That is what Youth Aflame Nigeria is all about. A sociopolitical body that represents a call for renaissance, a call for action, a call for a change in status quo in our dear nation.

So we must talk, we will publicize, we will Volunteer, we will mobilize, we will connect, we will collaborate and we will lead.

Dear Youth, Democracy is a game of numbers and we have the numbers. Go get your PVC, secure it with your life because it is your power. Join already established parties and use your numbers to take it over.

And do not worry too much about money. Money is important, yes, but the world is changing. In fact it has changed!. Youth Aflame Nigeria will build a platform, we will carry ourselves along and we support our interest.

And when they say we are not ready or not ripe to lead, tell them that Nigeria made her greatest strides and achieved some of her most rapid progress between Independence and 1979 and that youths led for thirteen of those nineteen golden years.

Emmanuel T. Aniagoh is the Convener of Youth Aflame Nigeria (YAN).

Lend your voice and don't be left out...Make We YAN Nigerian Youths

Politics / Using Social Media,he Orchestrated The Defeat Of APC/PDP During Anambra Election by anambraeyes: 3:07pm On Jan 23, 2018
In South East Nigeria, he is considered as the most sought after Media Strategist. During Anambra Guber Election last, no one expected that Social Media will be use as the most portent political weaponry thatvwill determine who emerges winner.

The Social Media onslaught was led by this young man who assembled the greatest refined team that took the battle to the door step of opposing parties.

Meet South East number one Media Strategist, Ifeanyi Aniagoh;

True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed, or assigned. It comes only from influence, and the best way to test whether a person can lead is to create a positive change.

Many great men have tales of humble beginnings to tell, a fact that buttress the saying that ‘nothing good comes easy’. More often than not, the tale of grass to grace reflects hardwork, diligence, perseverance and staunch determination!

He speaks, eats, sleeps, walk and talk social media. YES! He is the embodiment, the soul of social media. From South East, he has given life and a new face to social media, which hitherto, wasn’t attractive.

Young, energetic, charismatic, focused; all these could describe this young man who defied stagnation and against all odds, strive to be where he is today.

Such is the story of Rtn Ifeanyi Aniagoh, Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State. A man whose story of glory is not just encouraging but also a challenge to many youths.

M.O.P (Man Of the People) as he is fondly called, has never waited for opportunities, he grabbed them. He never waited for windfalls, he created them. While others were dreaming with their eyes tightly shut on beds, his dreams followed him everywhere, even on the streets.

Born to Mr & Mrs Lawrence Aniagoh (Ifeadinmesi) from Umudunu village in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. Growing up, Ifeanyi had an interesting childhood, attending his primary to secondary education at Abagana, Onitsha and Lagos.

Aside being an Agricultural & Bioresources Engineering graduate of the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka, Ifeanyi also studied Information Technology (PGD) and Diploma in Photography. He is a certified Project Manager (IPMP) and Safety Officer with HSE Levels 1 & 2 certifications.

At quite an early age, M.O.P, realized his ends would not meet if he kept waiting for his struggling parents to do everything for him. He knew he could not forfeit education no matter what his situation dictated, he had to create his own tune and dance to the outcome, he grabbed his fate with both hands and made some life changing decisions that did just that - changed his life.

It was during his hay days as an undergraduate in UNN, that he started exhibiting his love for community service; the school social lifestyle and welfare become his devotion. It was not surprising as his people-oriented services earned him lots of awards and recognitions, such as; Man of the people(M.O.P) in 2011, best class representative in 2010, most philanthropic student and student politician of the year 2007. He was decorated as the ‘’NWANNE DI NA MBA’’ of Enugu State Students, also the ‘’OCHENDO’’ of Anambra State Students and to cap it all, he became igwe ‘’Eze Ora’’, the traditional ruler of Anambra community of the University of Nigeria.

He never stopped there, with his quality and attributes politically, Ifeanyi rose from being a Class Representative to become a Student Parliamentarian , then the speaker of Student Parliament and inter PR Officer of all Engineering Student in Nigeria. He led Abagana Students Association at different stages and capacities and retired in Student politics as PRO of National Association of Nigeria Students, (NANA-JCC), Enugu State.

Moving into the wider society, Ifeanyi served as Personal Assistant/IT Consultant to Njikoka LG Chairman, Chief Onyeibo Dazza Udeozo from 2011 to 2013; In 2014, Ifeanyi was appointed as the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano on Social Media; and in December, 2015 he was promoted to Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Media.

Not relenting on his youth development work, Ifeanyi founded the Edge Crew, a youth-based group specialised in identifying, developing and empowering the young unemployed citizens of Africa using the PAVE (Patriotism, Advocacy, Volunteering and Empowerment) approach. With this award winning group he has awakened and empowered hundreds of Nigerian Youths.

Catching into the growing need to bridge information gap via the Social Media, Ifeanyi carved a niche for himself through blogging. Today, his blog concept has evolved into a Digital PR Brand, IB Concept with 10 young persons as staff. His Social Media influence moved him from pressing phone at home to serving in the State Government House as a senior aide to the governor.

Applying creativity and inert entrepreneurial skill, Ifeanyi created a Social Network for information dissemination in Anambra State cutting across Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter which gainfully engages 90 persons as Social Media entrepreneurs.

Most recently, he led his team, the famous #TeamAPGA Social Media Crew to deliver 100 %, Gov. Willie Obiano and Senator Victor Umeh during their governorship and Senatorial elections respectively, which they both won flawlessly. He engaged and utilized the Social Media space with his team using precision and a strategy so unprecedented. He was afterwards adjudged a master strategist.

Ifeanyi Aniagoh, a Social Media Entrepreneur, is a 2015 Nominee of the famous Future Awards Africa Ford Foundation Prize for Youth Employment; Honorary Award Winner in Anambra Youth Awards 2015; 2015 Entertainment Appraisal Awards Social Media Entrepreneur of the Year; 2015 Achievers Awards Young Employer of the Year and 2015 Blog of the Year; 2016 Social Media Personality of the Year. To mention but a few! His life of philanthropy has earned him over 40 Awards in recognition of his enormous contributions to youth and community development, exploits on the Social Media, leadership excellence and exemplary life of charity.

In 2013, Ifeanyi was inducted into the Rotary family. Rotarian Ifeanyi is currently the President of Rotary Club of Njikoka, District 9140 of Rotary International. In December, 2015, Ifeanyi was honoured and conferred with "Igwe Bu Ike" making him the youngest Chieftaincy Title holder in Omasi Kingdom, Anambra State.

As an advocate of youth development, participation in governance and Social Media entrepreneurship, Ifeanyi has spoken at local and international conferences which include Digital Sense Africa Round-table 2016; West Africa Bloggers Conference 2016; 2016 National Youth Colloquium on State of Governance in Nigeria; 2016 Africa Youth Workshop in South Africa; among many others… promoting positive use of the cyberspace and creating Social Media entrepreneurs.

With heavy presence on Facebook, thousands of followers on Twitter and good command on WhatsApp, Instagram and Snapchat. Ifeanyi Aniagoh is a Creative Director, Digital PR Strategist and a farmer whose entrepreneurial ventures currently engage 101 youths directly and over 300 persons indirectly.

Politics / Open Letter To Buhari, Osinbajo On Anambra Election by anambraeyes: 11:05am On Nov 08, 2017
Hon Echezona Okechi, former Chairman of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Information and of Public Petitions, who is the founding APC member in Anambra State wrote an open letter to President Buhari.

By Hon Echezona Okechi

Our dear President and Vice President,

I am sorry to use a public medium to write to Your Excellencies on a very important national issue. I wish I had an alternative. I am compelled to resort to an open letter because of a lack of time and because of the gravity of the contents of this letter.

This letter is about the gubernatorial election in Anambra State which will on Sunday, Saturday, November 18. This is the first gubernatorial election to hold in the country under your leadership not likely to be won by your own party, the Al Progressives Congress (APC). The rerun governorship vote in Kogi State which was conducted in December, 2015, six months after you assumed office, was won by the APC. And so was the Ondo State governorship election earlier this year.

Therefore, you are required to demonstrate inspiring leadership with the Anambra election. More importantly, your personal reputations are at stake. President Buhari symbolises personal integrity. This was why the international community, led by the United States and United Kingdom as well as France, threw its weight behind him during the 2015 general elections. Of all the numerous presidential candidates in the election, Only Buhari was invited to the British Royal Institute of International Affairs, popularly known as Chatham House, to lay out his vision to the world. Buhari had been military Head of State, Minister of Petroleum Resources and Chairman of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund, yet he was leading a most modest lifestyle in his sleepy hometown of Daura in Katsina. He was a simple village livestock farmer, a far cry from Nigerian ex leaders notorious for opulence.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s profile is also impressive. An articulate law professor and senior pastor in a popular Nigerian evangelical church, he has never been associated with greed or any kind of scandal. He shares Buhari’s values of leadership as service to the people, rather than an avenue to amass scandalous wealth and live like a conqueror of his own people.

Against this background, Your Excellencies should be concerned over extensive reports about the spirited determination of APC members to rig the upcoming Anambra election. I am an APC member in the state, but our party has in recent months been swarmed by all manner of characters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who still behave very much like PDP members. The PDP is notorious for a culture of impunity. I was in the PDP myself, attracted by men of honour and high intellect like Dr Alex Ekwueme, but when the APC was born in 2014 and promised change in the way we do things in Nigeria, I joined hands with people like ex Governor Chris Ngige who is now the Minister of Labour and Employment to establish the party in the state.

But the party has since been hijacked. We today have as gubernatorial candidate a person none of us can market to ourselves, let alone the people of Anambra State who are now used to good governance. Consequently, I started a movement to reform Anambra APC. The state APC must save itself from its own members. We would not have been in the current mess if someone like Dr Ngige had been our governorship candidate.

Given the reputation of the new APC leaders in Anambra State, it is difficult to dismiss with a cavalier wave of the hand reports about election rigging in Anambra State. Just this morning, the media reported how security agents arrested on November 6, 2017, some party activists with electoral materials at Rooms 3 and 4, Grace Royal Hotel at Okpuno, Awka. Could the agents have had access to the sensitive materials without the cooperation of some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)? Worse, there are reports that some top security officers may have been compromised in view of the speed with which the party agents with electoral materials were released.

Open collusion between inelegant politicians and security agents in Anambra State is not new. Raphael Ige, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone C, was deeply involved in the kidnap of Dr Ngige as our governor in 2003. President Olusegun Obasanjo was to fire him shortly for leading a coup attempt. AIG Ige died not long after in ignominy. Yet, the development did not prevent the commander of the Police Mobile Squad in the state from leading the three-day mayhem which began on November 4, 2004, and resulted in the burning of the Government House, the state House of Assembly, the judiciary, the Anambra State Broadcasting Service, etc. The police mobile commander was assisted by a member of the House of Representatives then who went to address a press conference in Awka daring Governor Ngige to come from Abuja to Awka to see if he would not be eliminated! Needless to add, I was a main target of the arsonists. They had invaded my house in the morning of November 4 in a desperate attempt to assassinate me. I still do not know how God saved me and my family from imminent death that morning.

None of the people who visited mayhem on the government and people of Anambra State for three days was ever punished. The PDP-led Federal Government rather deepened the culture of impunity, as it regarded the criminal activity as “a mere family affair”. Against this background, it is not surprising that when the APC was formed and promised a different trajectory, I had no hesitation leaving the PDP and joining the APC. Now, the same PDP rogue elements have tragically invaded the APC in Anambra State with their terrible values. Anambra APC has become another name for Anambra PDP, easily the most notorious state branch of the party ever.

The great Professor Chinua Achebe memorably wrote about these characters who gave the PDP a horrible reputation: “"I have watched particularly the chaos in my own state of Anambra where a small clique of renegades, openly boasting its connections in high places, seems determined to turn my homeland into a bankrupt and lawless fiefdom. I am appalled by the brazenness of this clique and the silence, if not connivance, of the Presidency”.

May it not be said under the leadership of President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo that Anambra State or any part of Nigeria was turned into a bankrupt and lawless fiefdom by a cabal of politicians who have no regard for the will of the people expressed through the ballot box. It is alarming to hear them boast regularly in the open, “We must conquer Anambra State by fair or foul means, by faire or by force!” Both President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo have reputations to protect. They should never allow a bunch of desperate people to take their well earned personal reputations to the dogs by turning a blind eye to sacrilege by fellow party members.

Your Excellencies are, please, enjoined to personally look into reports of planned electoral brigandage in Anambra State and cage APC members who are behaving, as Professor Achebe would say, rabid beasts of fanaticism.

Thanks, Your Excellencies.

Assurances of our esteemed regards.

Hon. Okechi is leading a movement to reform the APC in the state and he's voting Obiano (not APGA) in the Anambra election. echezonaokechi@yahoo.com.

Politics / Anambra 2017: An Open Letter To INEC by anambraeyes: 7:38am On Nov 01, 2017
A prolific and passionate writer from Anambra, Ejike Anyaduba expresses his fear concerning the forthcoming election in Anambra by writing INEC an open letter.

Dear Professor Mahmood Yakubu,

I admit of no better time than now to write you this letter. With the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State within days of taking place it behoves us in the state to ask a few questions.

I assume - even without being admitted in knowledge - that you have taken effective care to ensure that Anambra State witnesses a free and fair election. Nothing will be more gratifying than this realization.

It is my hope that your coming to the state as an unbiased umpire is to change the perception that election results do not always reflect the wishes of the electorate. I pray the Anambra election will not be a confirmation of this perception. This is because you and I know how diminished a people can be each time their collective aspiration is made of no importance. It vacuums them of hope, and can set them on a path of destruction. To this end, I pray you don’t indulge or pander to any interest that will bring about this situation. This election offers you a chance to write your name in gold - an opportunity to undo the wrongs of the past. Professor Humphrey Nwosu, you remember him, the erstwhile boss of INEC, is remembered today with fondness by majority of Nigerians not because he plied his pedagogy in political science of many a Nigerian university. Not at all! He is remembered because he dared to be different and conducted what has come to be known as the freest and fairest election in Nigeria. The opportunity is here with you. I urge you to seize it, act in good conscience and allow Heaven to take care of the devil in the detail.

May the good Lord speed you!

However, there is this rumour that a plan has been hatched to derail the process which I feel you should know. But for constant dropping of the name of your organization, the purveyors of the cheap gossip would merit no consideration at all. But because every society is surfeited with imps enough to cause distractions, including my dear Anambra, I suggest that you take proactive measures to forestall possible derailment. The threat should not be dismissed with the wave of the hand as these fellows seem determined to stultify genuine effort to have an equitable election. I haven’t the slightest reason to doubt your good office or to ever imagine it could be in cahoots with any plan to compromise the people. Not at all! Yet their boast of connections in high places is enough to arouse concern. They speak with definiteness that the result must pan out in their favour. Where otherwise - they boasted - the election will be postponed as was the case in Edo.

Ordinarily, no one should pay any heed to such swank as our people can distinguish between the command of God and the threat of man. They can also tell a psychological war when they are up against one. But I got worried when reference was made to the Edo governorship election. You must agree with me that that election did not commend itself highly of INEC. If anything, it reduced public confidence in the electoral body. The postponement of that election from September 10, 2016 to September 28, 2016 was seen rightly or otherwise as unnecessary except as an opportunity for the eventual winner to deal with the odds against his chances. Till date, a lot of people are not enamoured of the conduct and will be loath to have it repeated elsewhere. It may be argued that the election was equitable at least to the extent that the Supreme Court affirmed it and the good people of Edo did not protest the travesty. Neither argument captured the damage done to the psyche of Nigerians who had thought the new leadership of INEC was different from what it has been.

It is our prayer that Anambra State should be spared that sham of an election. Not because the people have the capacity to compel a different officiation if the Edo option has been slated. It has to be different for the following reasons. One, because it is the only election within the period, it is less encumbered by pressure. Both the workforce and material deployment of INEC have enough room to deliver a good job. Two, the state is currently under threat of a shut-down by elements of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). That in itself is enough trouble however abated it may seem since the Python Dance 11. It will be stretching our luck too far by provoking mass hysteria through avoidable partisanship. Two and perhaps the greater of the two reasons is possible provocation of the fractious youth of the Omamballa region. You may not be aware of this, but the Omamballa area is the flashpoint of violence in the state. Because of the rotation arrangement two of the frontline contenders in the race are from the area. This area is a veritable ground for recruitment of “militants”, and till date bears the record as having fought the longest fratricidal war in the history of the state. Without sounding an alarmist another kind of job would be created for the security agents should INEC mismanage the election.

As a rule, Anambra is a pleasant state to govern. The people have no great expectations from government. They are sufficient onto themselves and can, on occasion, stand in for government. The state occupies a foremost position in Igbo land because of her unique potentials. It is not without reason that elections in the state are treated with great care. Anambra electorate are sophisticated and do not need encouragement to accept or reject a leader as they deem wise. However, if deprived the right of choice they can prove most intractable. The state can make noise enough to get the nation worried. We are not unaware how important a peaceful Anambra State is to Nigeria and vice versa. It will be wrong to task the peace by doing anything untoward during the election. A challenged governorship election in Anambra State may worsen the volatile peace in the country. For this reason, our dear INEC, I decided to write you in the hope that you will resist every attempt to exact your office for the success of any candidate in this election.

It will be a disservice to our people if their effort on November 18 is made of no effect just to satisfy a few interests.
Our people appreciate the rat race involved in this election and cannot pretend to be unmindful of efforts by those who boast of their contact in high places in Abuja to subvert the will of the people. But to achieve that through any connivance with the refeering authority will spell a lot of trouble for everybody. You owe the state a duty to resist any temptation and or intimidation by those determined to lead the state against the dictates of her conscience. What happens from November 19, whether there will be a peaceful Anambra, nay Nigeria or not, derives from how fair you choose to conduct the election. I shall be content to bother you less with an unnecessarily long letter for I know you must be busy.

Again, may the good Lord speed you!

Politics / Anambra 2017: Victory For APGA As PDP Endorses Obiano For 2nd Term (PHOTOS) by anambraeyes: 2:54pm On Oct 26, 2017
Yesterday was a good day at Late Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka as the original PDP members numbering more than 2000 lead by their State Chairman, Chief Ken Emeakayi endorsed Governor Willie Obiano for second term in office.

Recall, that in their massive rally that was held in Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, the original PDP gave the National Leadership of the Party an ultimatum of five days within which they were expected to do the needful by allowing either Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Sen. Stella Oduah, Hon. Linda Ikpeazu, Chief John Emeka or Dr. Alex Obiogbolu (Oganiru Anambra) to fly the party's flag instead of someone who was never a member of the party.

The party ignored the order and left Chief Emeakayi with no option than to do that which he promised he will do.

Soon after the endorsement he urged his members to get ready for next massive PDP Town to Town sensitization tour in Anambra State. The need for the Town to Town sensitization, is to enable the electorates know the right candidate to vote on Nov 18th.

The massive endorsement of governor Obiano across party lines is as result of his laudable achievements in just 3.5 years in office.

Politics / Operation Stop Obiano: Obi Set To Dump Obaze For APC by anambraeyes: 1:52pm On Oct 24, 2017
THE PDP National Leadership should be put to notice of the underground plan of the godfather to collapse his own faction and already dilapidated PDP to APC all in the bid to stop OBIANO.

The godfather is said to be worried that the Obaze agenda is heading for a crash and has since after the poorly attended PDP flag off began to search for any possible way to stop Obiano's re Election.

The original PDP in Anambra State has earlier informed the PDP National body that the godfather ab-initio, has no intention of winning the election for the party.

It is Now a hatched plan for the the godfather who has found it very impossible to navigate out of the difficulties in the grass root campaign for the PDP in Anambra. As we speak all the political actors and commentators in Anambra State are already aware that the election is simply between APGA and the APC.

Recall that Joe Igbokwe had earlier said shortly after the APC rally that the godfathers PDP will collapse with the APC to remove Obiano.

The events in the coming weeks will justify this postulation.

Politics / Tony Nwoye, Anambra APC Guber Candidate Embezzles Constituency Project Fund by anambraeyes: 10:16am On Oct 12, 2017
Dr Hon. Tony Nwoye, the Federal House Member, Representing representing Anambra East/West constituency and APC Guber Candidate for Nov. 18 election, was dragged to court by the people of Umueze-Anam Wards 1 and 2 of Anambra West LGA, for diverting the funds meant for the construction of solar powered borehole in their town.

This is a corruption scandal and coming from a supposed guber candidate, i wonder how EFCC will attend to this case since he is now a member of APC.

According to the deeply aggrieved people of Umueze-Anam Wards 1 and 2 the money for the construction of the boreholes was captured in the 2016 budget and funds appropriated for it as part of constituency project for the area.

However, in an inexplicable turn of events, Hon. Tony Nwoye acting in concert with some unscrupulous elements at Abuja diverted the funds.

This is why the persons affected took out a suit at the Federal High Court Awka in Suit No. FHC/AWK/CS/46/2017 Between Ogbuefi P.O. Okonkwo & 4 Ors Vs. Hon. Tony Nwoye & 5 Ors the parties concerned are seeking that the money meant for the water project be returned for the execution of the job. One of the Plaintiffs told our reporter that since the suit was filed in March.

Hon. Tony Nwoye has avoided the Court and has not filed any response so far despite being served with the processes. He said that they will also have to petition the EFCC to carry out investigation into the matter.

The presiding Judge at Federal High Court Awka has adjourned the case to the 12th day of October, 2017 for hearing.

Politics / HOME Full Text Of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Broadcast This Morning by anambraeyes: 10:47am On Aug 21, 2017
My dear citizens,

1. I am very grateful to God and to all Nigerians for their prayers. I am pleased to be back on home soil among my brothers and sisters.

2. In the course of my stay in the United Kingdom, I have been kept in daily touch with events at home. Nigerians are robust and lively in discussing their affairs, but I was distressed to notice that some of the comments, especially in the social media have crossed our national red lines by daring to question our collective existence as a nation. This is a step too far.

3. In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

4. Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.

5. Every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance.

6. I believe the very vast majority of Nigerians share this view.

7. This is not to deny that there are legitimate concerns. Every group has a grievance. But the beauty and attraction of a federation is that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence.

8. The National Assembly and the National Council of State are the legitimate and appropriate bodies for national discourse.

9. The national consensus is that, it is better to live together than to live apart.

10. Furthermore, I am charging the Security Agencies not to let the successes achieved in the last 18 months be a sign to relax.

11. Terrorists and criminals must be fought and destroyed relentlessly so that the majority of us can live in peace and safety.

12. Therefore we are going to reinforce and reinvigorate the fight not only against, elements of Boko Haram which are attempting a new series of attacks on soft targets, kidnappings, farmers versus herdsmen clashes in addition to ethnic violence fuelled by political mischief makers. We shall tackle them all.

13. Finally, dear Nigerians, our collective interest now is to eschew petty differences and come together to face common challenges of economic security, political evolution and integration as well as lasting peace among all Nigerians.

14. I remain resolutely committed to ensuring that these goals are achieved and maintained. I am so glad to be home.

15. Thank you and may God bless our dear Nation. (NAN)

Early this morning at creek road Apapa Wharf, angry container drivers took law into their hands as march into nearby bank, burning and destroying everything before them.

Topgist gathered from a reliable source that problem started when a container driver while reversing hit the gate of an undisclosed bank, falling the gate.

The mopol on duty confronted the driver, there was a heated argument and the mopol shoot the driver, who died instantly.

The act got other drivers angry, they mobilized, grab and killed the Policeman. As that wasnt enough, they proceed to burning down of the bank building. The affected banks are Sterling Bank and Diamond Bank.

It is reported that container drivers waiting for over a week to empty the container content, can't, because the wharf is blocked because of delay on work cause by APMT terminal in control of APAPA wharf.

Agriculture / Anambra To Start Exportation Of Rice By 2018 by anambraeyes: 7:42am On Jul 17, 2017
Jude Nwankwo, the acting programme manager of agricultural development programme (ADP), Anambra, says plans are underway to commence export of rice from the state in 2018.

Nwankwo disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Sunday in Awka.

“By the grace of God, Anambra will commence rice export after our harvest this year,” he said.

He assured that the state will produce more than 500,000 tonnes of rice in the 2017 harvest year based on projections from the field.

He said that the figure would be 300, 000 higher than what was recorded in 2016.

“In 2016, we projected 180, 000 metric tonnes of rice, but we surpassed it by 20, 000. In 2017 our target is to produce 500, 000 metric tonness of rice, but the information from the field indicates that the figure will even go higher again,” he said.

He said that more rice farmers were being supported by government to cultivate rice in Orumba north, Ayamelum, Awka north, Anambra east and Anambra west local government areas and other communities across the state.

“We distributed hybrid FERO 44 rice, maize, cassava and yam to farmers, in addition to huge support the state gave to vegetable farmers who already are exporting pumpkin and bitter leaf to markets in America and Europe.”

NAN reports that many communities in Anambra such as Owusi, Omasi, Omor, Ifite-Ogwari, Enugu-Abo, Ufuma and Umuekete-Aguleri, among others have enormous potentials for commercial rice farming.

Nwankwo said a more cheering development in the state was that more youths especially graduates are now showing serious interest and passion in farming due to evident prospect in commercial agricultural ventures.

“In Anambra now, the involvement of youths in agriculture is affecting rural/urban migration. Hardly do I spend up to one hour in my office without receiving youths coming to ascertain how they can establish one agricultural venture or another.

“The state currently has more than 2, 000 registered Farmers Cooperative Societies and many jobs and wealth are being created in the sector in the state,” he said.

The Anambra ADP boss noted that the state is practicing e-agriculture which enables information on agricultural activities to be easily generated and transmitted to the state agricultural data unit.

On meteorological agency (NiMet) prediction that Anambra will be among states to record flooding which may lead to poor harvest, Nwankwo allayed the fears, insisting that it would not affect plants in the area.

“We already have the records of communities with high risk for flooding; our agricultural extension officers guided farmers from such locations to strictly adhere to agricultural calendar.

“And so farmers in these places like Ogbaru and FADAMA communities would have harvested their crops before the flooding will occur this time,” Nwankwo noted.

Believe this junk and you will believe anything.

First, let you inform vivian the self acclaimed 'ada media anambra'...you are nothing close to that. You peddle gossip and that is not the true modern way of journalism.

I am well grounded in Anambra state...I neither speak for the governor nor anybody else. When there are stories , we investigate first to confirm the source.

We know Mazi Odera very well, I am not surprise at this post but coming from vivian, this is very surprising. Perhaps she her blog is no longer getting as much traffic and this was what she could think of.

Now back to the matter at hand.

The rumour whether anambra produces its own rices has been put to rest long before now. Everyone, including Mazi odera attested to that. The evidence can be found in his fb timeline.

Again, there was never a time the governor made mention or specify the particular quantity of rice that will be shared among civil servants for the festive season. The governor promised bag of rice but no specific size or quantity.

We all are very much aware of the economic situation of the country and I am sure even the peddlers of this lies must have cut cost in their day to day activities.

So why playing politics with all this?
