Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance is collaborating with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the nation’s capital market watchdog, to provide a new regulatory environment to boost adoption in the blockchain and crypto space. Nigeria has crafted a name for itself in the crypto sector Speaking during the Fintech in Nigeria State of Play event, Armstrong Takang, a special adviser in the Finance Ministry, alluded to the fact that a regulatory environment was needed in the blockchain field. In September, the SEC announced that it was creating a clear crypto trading regulatory framework to protect investors’ interests and ensure transparent transactions. Nevertheless, it cleared the air by stating that the aim was not to stifle innovation or hinder technology but rather create standards that promote ethical practices. Nigeria has been among the nations in Africa leading the pack in the crypto/blockchain arena. In July, together with other countries like Kenya, South Africa, and Ghana, their weekly Bitcoin (BTC) trading volumes exceeded $1 million showing notable strides in the sector. Nigerians are fighting inflation with Bitcoin A recent Paxful study revealed that Nigerians are thinking out of the box by using Bitcoin to deal with the devaluation of the nation’s native currency Naira prompted by factors like the current COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, the devaluation of Naira (NGN) from 2018 till now has seen 380NGN being exchanged for one USD compared to the previous 306 NGN. Through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Nigerian administration sees Blockchain technology as the stepping stone needed tp help the country generate revenue of between $6 and $10 billion in the next ten years. The NITDA mandated with spearheading the nation’s digital economy policy stipulated that the target was realistic because Nigeria had a huge potential in the payment and financial services sector. Moreover, the nation is seen as one of the financial technology (FinTech) hotspots in Africa. With the new crypto and blockchain regulatory guidelines being formulated, Nigeria seeks to continue being one of Africa’s hubs in this field. Binance reserves the right to disqualify trades that are deemed to be wash trades or illegal bulk registration accounts, self-dealing or display attributes of market manipulation, etc. Binance reserves the right to cancel or amend any Activity or Activity Rules at our sole discretion. How will the lucky draw winners be selected? We will take the final 8 numerical digits of the last Binance chain hash value at 11:59 PM (UTC) on the last day of this activity period as the winning number. This winning number will be used to match User IDs from the first digit onward. Qualified users whose IDs have the most consecutive identical digits to the winning number will win the lucky draw. If the number of matches exceeds the number of winners, we will then further select winners based on their User IDs in ascending numerical order (user ID numbers are generated in numerical order at the time of registration, so we encourage users to register early). Example scenario: Assume that the last Binance Chain block hash value at 11:59 PM (UTC) of the last day of this activity is: 3E53A755905113FD1738F0A585D65CE4AC942AAF214625512E30A07FBBA5DFA5 Removing the letters from the hash value determines the string of numerical digits: 3537559011317380585654942214625512300755 The winning number in this scenario will be the last 8 numerical digits: 12300755. The user whose User ID matches the 8-digit winning number will be a winner. If there are no matches for the 8-digit winning number, we will match the last 7 digits with the last 7 digits of User IDs: 2300755. If there are no matches for the 7-digit winning number, we will match the last 6 digits with the last 6 digits of User IDs: 300755. After the lucky draw is complete, Binance will send an email to inform the lucky winners who received the chance to buy BTC with a discount. Risk warning: Cryptocurrency investment is subject to high market risk. Binance is not responsible for any direct, indirect or consequential losses as a result of the trading competition. Please make your investments with caution.
