A Guatemala court has sentenced
two former members of
the military to 360 years in jail for the murder,
rape and
sexual enslavement of indigenous women..

Francisco Reyes Giron Heriberto Valdez Asij were
found
guilty of crimes against humanity.
The historic ruling is the first successful prosecution
for
sexual violence committed during Guatemala's
military
conflict in the 1980s.
There were jubilant scenes in court as the judge read
out
the sentence.

"This is historic, it is a great step for women and above
all
for the victims," said Nobel Peace Prize winner
Rigoberta
Menchu, who attended the hearing.
Francisco Reyes Giron, who was the commander of the
Sepur Zarco military base, was found guilty of holding
15
women in sexual and domestic slavery and for killing
one
woman and her two daughters.
Heriberto Valdez Asij, a paramilitary who carried out
commissions for the army, was convicted for the same
enslavement, as well as the forced disappearance of
seven
men.


The victims have been demanding accountability for
the
crimes at Sepur Zarco for decades.
"We were raped, all of this happened. If it wasn't like
this,
where are our husbands? We don't know where they
are,"
said Demesia Yac, 70, who acted as a representative
for
the women.

The court had heard harrowing details about what
went on
at the base in the eastern highlands during the 1980s.


According to the prosecution, in 1982 armed forces
repeatedly attacked the village of Sepur Zarco and
killed or
took away Mayan leaders who had been applying for
land
titles and had angered local landowners.


The men were accused of being associated with left-
wing
guerrillas.
Agustin Chen, one of the men who survived said the
soldiers took him to a cell and beat him every day.

"They killed seven people, throwing two grenades into
the
pit where they had put them."

The court heard how military commanders considered
the
women to be "available" without their men and had
then
taken them into sexual and domestic slavery.


They were required to report every third day to the
base for
"shifts" during which they were raped, sexually
abused,
and forced to cook and clean for the soldiers.

In a report to the court, anthropologist Irma Alicia
Velasquez Nimatuj said military outposts were
installed in
the region "to give security to the landowner's farms
and
to take possession of the lands".

For some of the victims, their ordeal lasted as long as
six
years until the base was closed in 1988.

CrossFit athlete Krystal Cantu
may have one arm,
but it doesn't stop her from lifting heavy and
breaking PRs. This is her inspiring story !

Krystal Cantu, 25, from Texas, had her arm amputated
last year after the car she was travelling in with her
boyfriend flipped over - painfully crushing her limb.

But this has increased her ferocity in the gym and she
can now can lift a 210lb bar clear above her head with
just her left arm, more than she could lift before the
crash.

She found the courage to get back to her CrossFit
training just three weeks after the accident.
'I looked at my arm and I thought OK - that looks
pretty
bad - but survival mode just kicked in,' said Miss
Cantu.


'I had to think - what do I need to do now?'

'I had people trying to help me and I was trying not to
look at my arm but I could see it in the reflection of
one
guy's sunglasses.

'When I arrived at the hospital, the surgeon came up
to
me and said that he had looked at everything and the
arm needed to come off.

'I had a moment but then I said alright - if it's going to
save my life take it off.
'Not a day goes by that I don't think about it.

'But I feel like I can conquer anything when I'm in the
gym - I feel like I have super powers when I'm in
there.'

Her boyfriend Daniel Cuate, 26, had been driving
through their home-town of San Antonio when a tyre
blew and the car flipped in the air.

He escaped unscathed but Miss Cantu was told that
her
arm would need to be amputated after she was
airlifted
to hospital.

'The accident was the best thing that could have
happened to me, so much good has come out of it,'
added the IT consultant.
'I'm really surprised that people call me an inspiration.
I think it's really cool that people from around the
world say that I've helped them get back up and get
into shape.

'People from around the world have been in touch to
say that I've helped them - someone like me, just a
normal girl from Texas - that's just incredible.'

Her coach Chris Xanders says the intensity is always
turned up a notch when the adapted athlete is in the
gym.

He added: 'Everyone sees that what she's doing may
look difficult but she's still going through it and trying
her best.

'You can feel that the intensity is really turned up
when
Krystal is in the gym.'

The picture below, circulated widely on the Internet by
bloggers and in emails, was said to depict a real
human-dog hybrid. It in fact is a picture of a
sculpture

Those concerned with cloned and genetically modified
animals often ask: Have scientists gone too far? What
are the implications of new frontiers in genetics?

One horrific answer appeared recently in a widely-
circulated story: "Israeli scientists are examining what
appears to be a trans-species between a Labrador
retriever and human. While genetically considered
impossible, humane workers found remains of an
earlier trans-species, believed to be the parent of the
animal pictured above, shallow buried in the owner's
property. The human parent of the animals is believed
to be the teen-aged son of the family well known in
politics. DNA studies are in process and results are
expected early next month."

a strange half-woman, half-dog (or pig) hybrid mother
nursing its young. The image has flooded inboxes
around the world, accompanied by messages—some

People love a mystery, and people especially love a
mystery that comes with a weird photo.

The Half-Human Hybrid hoax is only the latest in a
long series of supposedly mysterious photos. Typically
these photographs have three elements in common:
They are at least somewhat realistic; they are odd or
strange enough to attract curiosity; and perhaps most
importantly, they are misidentified.

How do these things get started?

Often, as in this case, there is no intentional hoaxing: It
is a legitimate, straightforward photograph of

Jose Mourinho has been sacked by champions
Chelsea for a second time, just seven months
after winning the Premier League.

The 52-year-old has been dismissed with
Chelsea 16th in the Premier League and three
points above the relegation zone following a
dismal run of nine defeats in 16 games.

Sky sources reported earlier this week that
Chelsea's board had met to discuss Mourinho's
future following Monday Night Football 's defeat
at Leicester - a result that has tested owner
Roman Abramovich's patience beyond his limit

And Mourinho's second spell as Chelsea
manager is over after 30 months and 136
games, despite delivering his third and the
club's fourth Premier League title by an
eight-
point margin in May.
Mourinho has been under increasing
pressure
as their worst start to a season since 1978

Asked whether he was 100% convinced that
he would still be in charge for the

A blind mystic who reportedly foretold
9/11, the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, the
Fukushima nuclear spill and the birth of
ISIS also made dire predictions for 2016
and beyond, the Australian newspaper
Perth Now reports.


Bulgaria-born Prophetess Baba Vanga, who
died in 1996 aged 85, was known as
“Nostradamus from the Balkans” thanks to a
purported 85 per cent success rate and has
long been revered in Russia and Europe as a
kind of supernatural saint.
Of the hundreds of predictions Vanga made
over her 50-year career as a celebrated
clairvoyant, a large number alluded to
natural and climate change-related
disasters. She warned of melting polar ice
caps and rising sea temperatures back in the
1950s, decades before anyone had heard of
global warming.

Her followers believe her vivid description
of a “huge wave” that would descend on a
“big coast, covering people and towns and
(causing) everything to disappear under the
water” was a reference to the 2004 tsunami
and earthquake which claimed hundreds of
thousands of lives across the Pacific Rim.

But it’s Vanga’s preoccupation with a “great
Muslim war” that has sent believers,
conspiracy theorists and Islamophobics into
a doomsday frenzy in recent months as the
world struggles to contain the escalating
threat from Islamic State and its affiliates.

The chilling prophecies warn of a 2016
invasion of Europe by Muslim extremists, a
conflict she predicted would begin with the
Arab Spring in 2010, play out in Syria where
“Muslims would use chemical warfare
against Europeans”, and culminate in the
establishment of a caliphate by 2043 with
Rome at its epicentre.

According to Vanga, Europe as we know it
will “cease to exist” by the end of next year
following the systematic elimination of
entire populations, leaving the continent
“almost empty”, a “wasteland almost
entirely devoid of any form of life”.

If that sounds dramatic, consider the
developments of the past year, which has
seen ISIS edge perilously close to Europe
with the taking of Sirte, a key Libyan city
overlooking the Mediterranean and the
birthplace of the late dictator Gaddafi.

Sirte is now an Islamic State colony
operating under Sharia Law. The new
regime reportedly cemented its authority by
staging a series of public executions, during
which an unknown number of people were
crucified and beheaded.


And ISIS continues to gain ground in Syria,
despite a massive bombing campaign by
allied forces in the wake of the Paris attacks.
To devotees and others consumed by fear of
an impending apocalypse, it’s as if Vanga’s
deadly prophecies are unfolding before their
very eyes.

Baba Vanga was born Vangelia Pandeva
Dimitrova in Strumica, a village located at
the foot of a volcanic mountain range in
what was then the Ottoman Empire.

According to folklore, she led an ordinary
life up until the age of 12, when she
mysteriously lost her eyesight during a
massive storm — described by some as a
freak tornado. According to folklore, the
youngster was flung into the air and then
dashed to the ground by a powerful gust of
wind.
What happened next is murky but her family
reportedly found her in a terrible state
several days later, her injured eyes sealed
shut and encrusted with a thick layer of dust
and dirt. Too poor to afford specialist care,
she was relegated to a life of blindness.

Vanga later stated that she had experienced
her first vision during the days she was
missing and believed she had been instilled
with the ability to heal people and predict
the future. She was able to convince others of
her paranormal powers and quickly
developed a cult following. She became the
go-to psychic for the rich and powerful and
admirers, among them heads of state,
scientists and historians, would come from
all over the world for a few minutes in her
company.

She later served as an adviser to Bulgarian
Communist Party leaders, some of whom
allegedly exploited her gift to further their
own agendas. She was reportedly kept under
surveillance by the country’s secret service
and her home, the scene of countless
