Quakertellicus1: Well, the private investors could come because we had a high amount of forex flowing...which meant that if said investors needed to import raw materials for the industries...they could access forex at a cheaper rate (Naira was stronger then because enough forex was there to buffer it)...they could get it easily.
But we cannot do that now...because releasing forex would drain our reserves...which we cannot replace effectively because we do not have the $100 per barrel prices that the last admin benefited from..which would lead to inflation, and us having to take foreign loans.
So...even though forex restrictions is harsh...it is the only way for now. Question is...how long can we sustain it. In my opinion, I foresee an austerity government in the future...while we spend money improving manufacturing..and making sure industries source for local raw materials to run effectively and save forex. The challenge is WHO decides which person gets what amount of forex? Is such a system not prone to CORRUPTION through round tripping? Do we not have an official rate of N199 compared to a black market rate of N320?A rational "manufacturer" who is "allocated" forex at N197 is better off selling it at N320 for over 50% net profit than waiting to turn it around for a gross margin of maybe 30%, not so How do you deal with that Another layer of officials to monitor and be tempted with corruption? |

Quakertellicus1: What would a PDP government, assuming your man won in 2015...have done differently?
I am serious by the way. You see the BASIC human motivation is SELF interest hence any society run on government OWNING and dictating everything leads to overall sub-optimisation. There has to be a balance somewhere. Buhari's APC ideology (if ever there is one) is rooted in that. Jonathan's PDP philosophy was more of market-driven liberal economics that encourages investments by the private sector. Some of the outcome of applying that style over five years can be seen here: https://www.nairaland.com/2117791/achievements-jonathan-sambo-administration-picturesPlease note that corruption exists in both styles with the one under big government owns everything being WORSE but propaganda and clampdown on the press may obscure it from the general public. |

Keep away from Obasanjo, he wasted $16 billion on power Owie tells Buhari
https://pointblanknews.com/pbn/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/obj-and-owie.jpg
Senator Roland Owie has blasted ex President Olusegun Obasanjo over his perceived posture to influence the incoming administration of President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Reacting to a Think-tank report submitted to Buhari by a team of technocrats put together by Obasanjo, Owie described the document as needless.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Owie, who is also a former Chief Whip of the Senate, asked: ”How can Obasanjo be preparing a blueprint for Buhari? A Bini parable says, ‘how can an impotent man get medicine for his brother, who suffers weak erection?’”
Expressing disappointment at Buhari’s romance with Obasanjo, Owie said “Obasanjo will tell the world that the solutions he prescribed for fixing Nigeria were ignored.”
Continuing he said, “I just read that Obasanjo’s think-tank has submitted a blueprint to Buhari. Blue what?
“I am shocked that great Nigerians of the likes of Prof. Akin Mabogunje, Dr. Idika Kalu and Dr. Christopher Kolade were involved. That Obasanjo is linked to the blue-print, it will be a document of blackmail to Buhari very soon.
“Wonders will never end! How can Obasanjo who allegedly wasted eight years in government pursuing perceived enemies, and tried to ruin the legislative and judiciary arms of government in Nigeria; wasted $16 billion on power and not a single kilowatt of energy was produced, destroyed Aladja Steel, Itakpe Steel, Ajaokuta Steel, NITEL, just to mention a few FGN parastatals, now begin to advise Buhari?
“How can Obasanjo, whose government received, in one year, a revenue equivalent of the total revenue that IBB regime received in eight years, yet, nothing to show for it, be handing over blue-print to the in-coming administration?

encryptjay: Twitter lord Na bad thing to have ILLITERATE as president oh. ABUJA—THE Senate, yesterday, refused to treat the budget proposal for the Federal Ministry of Information due to lack of provision for media propaganda in the North East.
The Senate Committee on Information, which took the decision during the ministry’s budget defence, insisted that the ministry must not only rework but also re-present its budget with provisions for effective media propaganda in the North East.
The committee on information, headed by Senator Enyinaya Abaribe, PDP, Abia South, directed that the ministry should bring a budget that will cater for the needs of its media agencies. Abaribe’s directive was sequel to the observation raised by a member of the committee and senator representing Bayelsa North, Ben Bruce, who had decried the non inclusion of budget for media operations in the North East, in the wake of the Boko Haram insurgency. Bruce, in his remark, had pointed out that during the Nigerian Civil War, the media was effectively used to propagate relevant information. He therefore appealed that the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, and Voice of Nigeria, VON, should go and add the required component.
He said: “It would have made more sense for the information budget of the Army to be given to the Ministry of Information to equip these stations to be used by the military as a source of communication.
“For instance, if there is going to be an air raid in a particular area, we can warn the citizens to stay off that particular area".

Dollarization Of The APC Primaries: How Amaehi Vanquished Atiku #saibuhari
The blogosphere was inundated with reports of the excessive sharing of dollars at the All Progressives Congress which took place during the latter part of last week.
One APC supporter and Special Adviser to Osun Governor on Environment, BolaIlori had blown the scandal open after he saw the beginning stages of the dollarization in action.
He took to his Facebook page and scribbled, “Crazy things are happening here!!! Some of these cannot represent the change Nigeria is yearning for. Excessive dollarization by one of the aspirants to is to say the least obscene. I have been involved in political process for decades now, I have never witnessed this volume of raw dollarization of party primaries. I only read about this kind of things in PDP primaries. A question been asked by conscientious delegates is that whoever can be giving out between $2000 to $5000 to…delegates certainly does not represent the kind of change Nigerians want…those who contributed to the pauperization of Nigeria now revel in dollarization… majority of Ondo delegates are still standing with Buhari but have been reduced from 85% to 70% within 24 hours…the remaining has gone with dollars ooo.!!!!!”
One has to wonder how Buhari was able to win the primaries in this era of stomach infrastructure where dollars are like the Biblical manna that God sent down from heaven to nourish the Israelites as they made their way to the promised land.
Sources close to the APC with knowledge of the way the Primaries unfolded have revealed that it was Rivers State Governor, Amaechi who flew back to Rivers State and returned to Lagos on Thursday morning with enough dollars to make Benjamin Franklin blush.
It has been revealed that Atiku offered the delegates $5000 each, but Amaechi doubled it to $10000 a pop. Thus turning the tables in favour of General Buhari.
Since his adventure into the APC, Amaechi has gone out of his way to prove himself a party loyalist, always the first to shoki or azonto at the many events the APC holds, which he himself is usually the chief sponsor.
According to party insiders, Amaechi has overtaken Tinubu as the major financier of the party. One does not need to wonder why he is always at President Jonathan’s throat over misappropriated oil wells or other such business. Anything that diminishes from the State’s coffers will have a ripple effect on his funding budget for the APC.

Also, $1billion was proposed for distribution to complement shortfall in expected revenue." The $1billion is a compromise by the FG over its words in September not to augment shortfalls anymore.
Responding to the presentation, the chairman of the States Commissioners of Finance and Ebonyi State Commissioner of Finance, Mr Timothy Odaah, lamented that the statutory allocation was getting smaller and smaller. "It appears this is the worst in terms of returns. This is the least in allocations as far as this year is concerned. We are mourning the dearth of funds and this is a wakeup call for states and local governments to buoy up their internally generated revenue."
While appreciating the "magnanimity" of President Goodluck Jonathan to approve the $1billion from the excess crude account and to be shared among the federal, state and local governments, Odaah expressed disappointment with the returns made by the NNPC.
He said that the states had requested for $2bn to complement for the shortfall in revenue but got only $1billion. In September, Odaah and fellow commissioners had walked out of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) when the federal government said that the framework of the 2013 budget was no longer realistic and it won't augment shortfall in revenue. Odaah raised issues with the statutory allocations of previous months.

A member of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmed Jaha popularly called ‘Babawo’ received the beating of his life after failing to win the primary election for the APC’s House of Representatives for Gwoza, Chibok and Damboa Federal Constituency.
The member, a former errand boy to senator Ndume, won the state assembly election in 2011 following the support he enjoyed from his political godfather, but fell out with his boss when he declared to contest for the National Assembly seat in 2015.
According to sources close to the member, he made a mistake of attacking his political godfather, when he alleged that Ndume did not support him during the primaries of the APC but supported former Commissioner for Tourism, Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir to win the APC ticket.
An eyewitness to the incident told DAILY POST that the lawmaker attacked Ndume at the Maiduguri Government House while they were preparing to travel for the APC presidential primaries in Lagos, a situation which angered the Senator to give him several slaps in the presence of top government and political office holders.
Babawo, who was left shattered after receiving the slaps said he would do everything to work against the party and the victory of his political godfather and Dr. Asabe Bashir.
