The PDP filed a suit before the Federal High Court, Osogbo on 27/7/22, challenging the planned abridgement of time for nomination/conduct of LG Elections. The PDP argued that it is not the duty of the Assembly to abridge the time as it is already encapsulated in the Electoral Act 2022, and doing so makes it inconsistent with Sections 29, 30 & 32 of the EA 2022 and also a previous Supreme Court Judgement on this.
However, the APC went on with the bill for abridgement and then Gov, Oyetola signed on 1/8/22. Thereafter, on 15/8/22, notices were published for LG election to be held on 15/10/22. The PDP sought the leave of Court to amend their Originating Summons which the APC argued they didn't have the jurisdiction, however the learned Judge upheld the arguments and allowed for amendment which took place in September 2022.
Parties to the suit filed by PDP were: OSSIEC, INEC, APC & Ors. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the notices of 15/8/2022, another Political Party, APP filed a suit, also challenging the legality and otherwise of the abridged time and the LG Election.
Parties to the suit were: OSSIEC, INEC, APC, APM, APGA & Ors. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delivering Judgement on 25/11/22 on the PDP suit, the Federal High Court invalidated the election and sacked all elected LG Chairmen and Councillors with CONSEQUENTIAL ORDERS.
On 30/11/22, in the APP suit, the Federal High Court also invalidated the election with the same CONSEQUENTIAL ORDERS.
1. That the notice of election on 15/8/22 was invalid, illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.
2. That all elected LG Chairmen/Councillors vacate their Offices immediately.
3. That the bill for the abridgement of time for nomination/conduct of the election is thereby struck out. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2 separate Federal High Court Judgements sacked those LG Chairmen/Councillors in 2022.

How does it compare with what you know about oyinbos’ contribution to their political and governance processes

In short, the neo-black dilemma may be framed as follows: is it better to live under white rule without political dignity but with basic life-sustaining standards for many;
or to live under black rule with illusory political dignity and without basic life- sustaining standards for the majority? @ @ The path forward for Africa lies in cultivating higher and adequate levels of personal and communal agential integrity as well as full personal responsibility and productivity. Not to mention creativity (including epistemic creativity), productive justice (such as merit and freedom), harmony and reconciliation at local and international levels, and a proper domestication of capitalism and other related values and institutions.
Africa must stop wasting her time on dreams of socialism because it is a system of wealth distribution primarily. Whereas, capitalism is a system of wealth creation primarily, and wealth has to be produced before it can be distributed.

Racoon: Festus Keyamo Defends Tinubu From Drug Trafficking, Says Tinubu Mistakenly Shared Flats With Drug Lords
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo, has distanced the All Progressive Congress presidential candidata, Bola Tinubu, from being a drug baron who was involved in the traffic of narcotics in the United States.
Keyamo, who also doubles as APC Presidential Campaign spokesperson, noted that the former governor of Lagos State only shared a block of flat with drug barons about 30 years ago in the US.
His reaction is coming following documents of a Chicago District Court indicting and convicting Tinubu of drug dealings and money laundering in 1993.
The document which emerged online two days ago, described APC standard-bearer as a drug baron, adding that Tinubu entered a plea bargain, leading to the forfeiture of his assets to US authorities in 1993
It was also pointed out that Tinubu forfeited the sum of $460, 000 dollars in his bank account at First Heritage Bank to the US government.
Speaking on Wednesday on Channels TV, Mr Keyamo dismissed such claims, insisting that Tinubu was linked to drug peddlers who were his neighbours.
He said: “What happened was that Tinubu went to open an account. The address which he used in opening the account was the address used by these people. I think some blocks of flats. Maybe, he was happy to be in that block of flats too.
“So, they now link it that the other people they were investigating for narcotics are in the same address used by Asiwaju to open that account.’’

ABUJA- THERE have been lamentations among some federal government workers over what they described as payment of “half salary” for January.
'We aren't just a band of blind musicians; we have journalists, teachers and computer...0:00 / 0:00
But the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, JPSNC, has assured workers that the matter is being looked into and that a letter has been written to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
Some federal civil servants had complained that they were ‘shortchanged’ in their January salary.
An assistant director in the federal civil service told Vanguard that he collected N510,000 in December but was paid N360,000 in January.
He said: “We were shortchanged, many of my colleagues were paid half salary. I hope this is not deliberate. The new minimum wage did not even reflect on the payment slip.”

[b]This is the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal, Akure Division on 10th of February, 2025 as issued on Tuesday 18th of February, 2025.[/b[
There's nothing ambiguous about this judgment to warrant the shedding of innocent blood by the PDP thugs aided and protected by the machinery of state as witnessed on Monday 17th of February, 2025. With these four simplified points, it is clear that the prayers of the appealants were adequately granted reflecting that all elected Local Government officials from the October 2022 election in Osun State remains and still remains the legal representatives of the people at the 3rd tier of government administration in Osun State. To put a stop to this unnecessary killing and maiming of innocent souls, the Attorney General of the Federation must speak out today and ensure adherence to the ruling of the Court of Appeal. When a similar situation happened in Edo State, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation came out to clearly state that NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO DISOLVE A DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE. And reason prevailed in Edo State as we have an APC Governor directing the affairs of the state with PDP holding forth at the Local Government level. There should be no fresh election in Osun State because the tenure of those elected in 2022 still subsists and i repeat "Oba miran ko le je ti Oba kan ko ba ku ". Let the security operatives rise up to their responsibilities by providing adequate protection for the elected representatives of the people at the Local Government level with immediate effect. It is only through this alone that we can ensure that those brutally murdered on Monday will not die in vain. Over to you Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation and the National Security Adviser (NSA). Otito oro ma nkoro.

I want to sell a script to a Hollywood studio. The story is about a guy who owns a farm that constantly runs at a loss but never quite shuts down.
The farm is massive and underutilised, and the protagonist has all the opportunities in the world to improve its output and get a bumper harvest.
He has access to credit, machinery, free irrigation and gifts from neighbouring farmers, but all he ever does with these things is drink and smoke them away while his family suffers.
Nigeria has refused to grow up and achieve something, but it somehow feels as if it is living vicariously through the achievements of its estranged children around the world
Apart from drinking, smoking and generally being utterly useless, his other pastime is to pump out children at an industrial rate. Needless to say, he takes no care of his children whatsoever, and many of them fail to survive childhood.
Those who do survive have to leave the farm and hire themselves out as hired labour to the neighbouring farmers, having picked up some survival skills from home.
With time, a number of them rise through the ranks and become senior managers, directors and even shareholders in these other farms while their father continues mismanaging his farm.
When good news about some of these successful children gets home, their father is filled with pride and joy, but when they end up on the wrong side of life, he acts as if he never knew them.
The successful ones make efforts to revamp their childhood home by sending back money and volunteering their skills and time, but all this guy ever wants to do is be a 62-year-old underachieving idiot carried through life by charity and luck.
Famzing” diaspora success is dishonest I’m sure before the end of the second paragraph, you figured out whose story I was telling. The 62-year story of post-independence Nigeria — which the Hollywood studio would surely reject for being too sad with no redemption — is that of our fictional antihero.
Nigeria has refused to grow up and achieve something, but it somehow feels as if it is living vicariously through the achievements of its estranged children around the world.
Remember how everyone from corporate brands to Abike Dabiri made a big song and dance about supporting Anthony Joshua the “Nigerian,” whose only chance to become someone in life came when his parents emigrated from Nigeria?
Remember how things turned when he somehow lost against that chubby Mexican dude whose name I can’t remember? Remember when the Super Falcons won the female AFCON title and received a congratulatory tweet from the president, only for them to have to stage a protest before being paid their camp allowances?
That’s what we do in Nigeria. We try to live vicariously through the achievements of people who have achieved great things under their own steam, simply because said people happen to be called ‘Ifeoma,’ ‘Efe’ and ‘Ayotunde.’
Even when Nigeria had absolutely nothing to do with said success, or in fact happened in spite of Nigeria, as with Divine Oduduru, we bask in the reflected glory of their personal achievements.
Sometimes when those people wear a Nigerian flag or post something about Wizkid or Jollof Rice on Instagram, we go crazy with the Nigerian flag emojis because oh my god, they identify with us!
This is not about being a Killjoy Somehow, the complete failure of Nigeria and our complicity in its failure is more bearable when we point at Nigerian immigrants doing great things in life and say “I knew Femi before he started calling himself Anthony.
His father and I were classmates in Aiyetoro.” It is unclear how exactly this helps our situation but hey, it’s also unclear how chugging the amount of alcohol we do helps either.
Escapism is a key part of our culture, and anyone who dissents must be a non-Jollof-eating, vegetarian heretic, and possibly also an atheist.
Now while all this is painfully cringey to my eyes, some will also point out that Nigeria is not the only country that has a weird obsession with its diaspora population.
Even ‘first-world’ countries like Ireland continue to have deep emotional and economic connections to their diaspora, and in any case Nigerians proudly supporting Anthony Joshua or the NBA’s Giannis Ante…African-sounding-name is basically harmless fun. They’re not hurting anyone. Why be such a killjoy, David?
The reason this matters can be found in a quote that has been dubiously attributed to Russian President Vladmir Putin, where he describes Africa as the place where its diaspora does not invest in, but returns to only to die and be buried with their ancestors.
While there is no concrete evidence that Mr. Putin ever actually made that comment, the truth in it is painfully poignant.
For diaspora success to be meaningful to Nigeria, it must correlate to on-ground results in Nigeria. The example of Somalia shows that having a well-educated, globally successful diaspora while being an absolute basket case are both possible at the same time.
Let me also ask if it is now at N300/$1 that T-Pain promised to make it in the short term before getting it back to N200/$1 by May 2027

April 23, 2023
The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.
“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.
“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

Hausa/Fulani didn’t bring insecurity, according to Tinubu.

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.
Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.
The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.
'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.
"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.
"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.
He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.
''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.
''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.
''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.
The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

No ride price no such marriage is recognized by parents or the community, this marriage can be conducted at any time of the day. It encourages polygamy 2: Statutory marriage ( or so called marriage) doesn't recognize bride price, nor community or parental consent. Ministry of Interior plays a role in it's registration. This marriage can be conducted any day of the week on or before the close of business hour. It prohibits polygamy. If you still want to argue , you can proceed to represent the named person in this thread for free.
In summary the payment of bride price does not make a marriage that is enforceable in a Nigerian court. Enjoy.

Despite video evidence, did Rivers state lawmakers not deny their defection to APC
The ongoing political drama in Rivers State has taken a very interesting turn as 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A member of the Assembly, Enemi George, confirmed to Channels Television that the 27 lawmakers were under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule.
He said the decision was taken during their sitting on Monday morning.
Just before the President’s meeting which brokered peace, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress rejected calls to declare their seats vacant. The lawmakers defended their decision to leave the Peoples’ Democratic Party at a rally in Port Harcourt organized to officially welcome them into the party.
Rivers Crisis: We didn’t defect to APC – Pro-Wike speaker

Nine months after the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leader of the faction, Martin Amaewhule, has said that they did not leave the PDP.
Mr Amaewhule is the speaker of the 27-member faction.
Apart from his promise of crashing the dollar rate to N300/$1 in the short term before reaching N200/$1 by May 2027, he also promised to crash the price of petrol below.
Deltafirstson: Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.
In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.
However, pump price of fuel hit N537 per litre days after Tinubu ended subsidy.
On Tuesday, the price climbed further to N617, a development that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) attributed to “market forces”.
Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.
Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.
At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.
However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.
King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji musician who performed at the rally, interrupted the president’s speech with chants as the crowd cheered.
On the campaign podium with the president were Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Pa Bisi Akande, interim National Chairman of the APC; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Senator Gbenga Daniel; among other bigwigs of the ruling party.
Tinubu went further to say Nigerians would defy the acute fuel scarcity at the time and trek to cast their votes.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200/N500 per litre. Go and relax, we will crash the prices,” he had said.
