Islie: The United Kingdom has joined the United States in resisting a plan by the Nigerian government to give Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, about $110m (N41.8bn) out of the $155m (N58.9bn) stolen by late dictator, Sani Abacha, Bloomberg reports.
The US, the UK and Nigeria are involved in a dispute over investment portfolios worth $155m traced to Abacha and held in trust for Bagudu and his family.
Nigeria is seeking the approval of a UK court for Nigeria to take ownership of the assets before returning 70 per cent of the proceeds to Bagudu under the terms of a 2018 deal.
Nigeria’s Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has denied ever entering a deal with Bagudu but court papers say otherwise.
The UK government’s National Crime Agency is now “opposing the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s application,” according to a motion filed by Bagudu’s brother, Ibrahim, to the District Court for the District of Columbia in the US capital on March 30.
The US Department of Justice said in February that its Nigerian counterpart is hindering its efforts to recover the allegedly laundered money from the UK.
Bagudu was part of a network controlled by Abacha that “embezzled, misappropriated and extorted billions from the government of Nigeria,” according to the DOJ.
While successive Nigerian governments have repatriated billions of dollars looted by Abacha, who died in office in 1998, the administration of Nigerian President, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), says it’s prevented from assisting America’s ongoing forfeiture efforts by an agreement between Bagudu and a previous government in 2003.
Abacha is estimated to have stolen as much as $5bn during his five-year rule.
That 2003 settlement, which was approved by a UK court, allowed Bagudu to return $163m to Nigeria “without admitting to wrongdoing,” according to US court filings.
In return, the government dropped all outstanding civil and criminal claims against him. Bagudu was elected a senator in 2009 and the governor of Kebbi state six years later.
Five years after the US launched fresh forfeiture proceedings against him, Bagudu and Buhari’s administration struck a new deal in October 2018 to transfer ownership of the investment portfolios to the Nigerian state, which would immediately pay 98.5m euros to the Kebbi governor and his affiliates.
The terms of the updated settlement can’t be implemented while Nigeria’s application in a UK court is pending and a freezing order is still in place, according to a motion by Ibrahim Bagudu, who is entitled to a $100,000 annuity from the funds and is contesting the US confiscation efforts.
Neither the Bagudus nor representatives of the DoJ, NCA, Nigeria’s Attorney General or Ibrahim Bagudu responded to requests for comment.
Although the DoJ and NCA oppose the 2018 settlement, Ibrahim Bagudu and the US government “recently commenced preliminary discussions regarding a potential negotiated resolution to this matter,” according to a motion filed by the US government to the district court on March 13.

T-Pain is helping us already with the crash in food price. What else do you want from God
TimeManager: market in Dukku LGA of Gombe State, attributed the fall in the price of food items to gradual return of farming activities in areas affected by insurgency, leading to increase in the food production volume in the country.
“Just three weeks ago, a 100kg bag of cowpea was sold at N100,00 – N102,000, but now it goes for N85,000 – 95,000. Maize was sold this week at between N47,000 and N48,000 as against N52,000 – N55,000 some weeks ago.
“This decline in the prices, as I understand, may not be unconnected to the fact that some farmers are gradually returning to their farms in places like Zamfara and Sokoto, where farmlands were inaccessible due to insurgency.”
ogaemma: That is the ignorant part of it from many of you NIGERIANS. Till date nobody knew where General Abdulsalam brought that constitution from. It was a military Constitution. Gave to Obasanjo in a hurry.
Why are ignorant people like you so arrogant?
The 1999 constitution was produced by Justice Niki Tobi who was Chairman of the 1998 constitution debate committee. The 1999 constitution, which we still operate, is Decree 24 and was promulgated into law by General Abdusalam Abubakar, on May 5, 1999 and has become operative from May 29, 1999 till date.

FAGBEMI, EX-OYETOLA LAWYER, IS NOT A COURT OF LAW AND CANNOT STOP LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION-GROUP
A civil society group, Osun Democrats for Democracy has scolded the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi for assuming the role of a court on the osun local government crisis, affirming that “the AGF is not a court of law and cannot stop election nor interprete court rulings.
“We were shocked that a supposed Chief Law Officer of the Federation has decided to speak on matters on which he is an interested party as a lawyer to Mr Gboyega Oyetola and from which he should have recused himself. He is not only a biased assessor but he has no power to stop an election nor clarify a court judgement.
“Only a court of law can stop an election, not an Attorney General. Secondly, only a court can interpret its own rulings when there are differences of opinions about a court’s judgments. Thirdly, the court system has its procedure for enforcing its own judgment and not through self help which the Attorney General openly supported.
“When there are disputes about the meaning of a court judgement, parties are expected to approach the court for interpretation. There AGF has no constitutional mandate to assume the powers and.functions of the courts.
“Much more worrisome is the biased refusal to mention the APP judgement which sacked the APC council aspirants. The APP judgement was not the subject of appeal at Akure and so the appeal ruling at Akure has nothing to do with the subsisting APP judgement.
UKEMY: @MOD Tell your APC People to give you work in any Grade A agency. APC should know that a one party system will not lead to success of this Country. Accept, plan for the next Gubernatorial Election.
Adeleke did not remove the sham Oyetola LG officials. They were duly removed by a federal high court judgement. That judgement is yet to be vacated on appeal.
fergie001: Let me do the Osun thread here because of my good friend Johnny...
The PDP filed a suit before the Federal High Court, Osogbo on 27/7/22, challenging the planned abridgement of time for nomination/conduct of LG Elections. The PDP argued that it is not the duty of the Assembly to abridge the time as it is already encapsulated in the Electoral Act 2022, and doing so makes it inconsistent with Sections 29, 30 & 32 of the EA 2022 and also a previous Supreme Court Judgement on this.
However, the APC went on with the bill for abridgement and then Gov, Oyetola signed on 1/8/22. Thereafter, on 15/8/22, notices were published for LG election to be held on 15/10/22. The PDP sought the leave of Court to amend their Originating Summons which the APC argued they didn't have the jurisdiction, however the learned Judge upheld the arguments and allowed for amendment which took place in September 2022.
Parties to the suit filed by PDP were: OSSIEC, INEC, APC & Ors. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the notices of 15/8/2022, another Political Party, APP filed a suit, also challenging the legality and otherwise of the abridged time and the LG Election.
Parties to the suit were: OSSIEC, INEC, APC, APM, APGA & Ors. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delivering Judgement on 25/11/22 on the PDP suit, the Federal High Court invalidated the election and sacked all elected LG Chairmen and Councillors with CONSEQUENTIAL ORDERS.
On 30/11/22, in the APP suit, the Federal High Court also invalidated the election with the same CONSEQUENTIAL ORDERS.
1. That the notice of election on 15/8/22 was invalid, illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.
2. That all elected LG Chairmen/Councillors vacate their Offices immediately.
3. That the bill for the abridgement of time for nomination/conduct of the election is thereby struck out. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2 separate Federal High Court Judgements sacked those LG Chairmen/Councillors in 2022.

Deltafirstson: Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.
In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.
However, pump price of fuel hit N537 per litre days after Tinubu ended subsidy.
On Tuesday, the price climbed further to N617, a development that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) attributed to “market forces”.
Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.
Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.
At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.
However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.
King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji musician who performed at the rally, interrupted the president’s speech with chants as the crowd cheered.
On the campaign podium with the president were Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Pa Bisi Akande, interim National Chairman of the APC; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Senator Gbenga Daniel; among other bigwigs of the ruling party.
Tinubu went further to say Nigerians would defy the acute fuel scarcity at the time and trek to cast their votes.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200/N500 per litre. Go and relax, we will crash the prices,” he had said.
Yes o, since APC, Buhari and T-Pain have failed to deliver their promise of crashing petrol price to N40, according to Tam David-West. 10 years of All Promises Cancelled, APC. How much longer do we have to suffer and endure their cluelessness and corruption
femmysin: Former Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tam David-West, in a telephone conversation with Vanguard said Buhari will reduce the current fuel price which is N87 to about N40 per litre when he becomes president.
“I want to assure you that by the time he takes over, petrol will be dispensed at N40 per litre. This is possible and he has the credibility to make it work. The major assignment of the president-elect when he's eventually inaugurated is to restore confidence to the industry. As military head of state, he dealt with the Federal Executive Council with the tenets of democracy. Buhari will build new refineries to make petroleum products available for the masses. No responsible government will allow the masses to suffer. He will strengthen the refineries within a year.
It is possible as we won’t spend any amount in setting up a green field refinery. We already have a blueprint as we shall use what we have to get what we want." He said

Because it will pay back itself. But if you are borrowing to take a second wife, if you are borrowing to share money for poverty alleviation, you are deepening the hole that, after we get inside, nobody can bring us out,” he said.
He emphasised the need for fiscal discipline in governance, urging the government to curtail excessive spending and ensure that resources are directed towards projects that will benefit Nigerians.
“There is some level of discipline that is required to curtail excesses from the government. Are we in the right direction? Yes,” he said.
The increased borrowing and higher tax burden from T-Pain’s tax reform bill has not helped build infrastructure.
Instead of discipline in government spending, APC is buying more luxuries for T-Pain and giving us palliative food instead of promised jobs.
chisomkachy: Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.
The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.
Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.
Is that why T-Pain is increasing our tax burden on his reforms bill to buy more jets, yachts, Escalade SUVs while dashing us palliative food since he has no idea how to create the millions of jobs he & Buhari with their APC progreThief party promised a decade ago

How did we allow ourselves to be swindled by T-Pain and Obasanjo in tribesmen rotation and zoning arrangements that ignored economic competences
citizenisb: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters.
“Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said.
The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.
While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this administration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria.
“I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. mrvitalis: Why didn't Tinubu contest in 2015 or support another southerner?
Lmao Obi might not contest in 2027 ooh don't bank on that... Obi is no fool
Was Pandora Bitter Obi a fool along with his tribal headless mob in 2023, when they helped ebilokan to continue APC shege for worsening inflation, unemployment, poverty, and even insecurity and corruption?
The tribal mob that gave him almost 100% in the five south yeast states.
jameshankss: Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has said he is sure the candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, would lose the 2023 presidential election. Soludo said he would not submit to the bullying of Obi’s supporters, who recently descended on him for addressing issues in the state.
The governor made the comments in a lengthy write-up personally authored, with the title, “History Beckons, and I Will Not Be Silent (Part 1).”
Soludo said Obi was inadvertently making the pathway to victory much easier for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and at the same time, toying with the destiny of millions of Ndigbo.
But the chief spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Yunusa Tanko, accused Soludo of being sponsored by some unknown persons to weaken the base of the party in the South-east.
The former CBN governor had been under intense attack for close to a week for dismissing Obi’s investment in the state as amounting to nothing, during a television interview.
Soludo said in the write-up, “My attention has been drawn to some of the tirades on social media following my frank response during an interview on Channels TV regarding the ‘investments’ Mr. Peter Obi claimed to have made with Anambra State revenues.
“Sadly, several of the comments left the issue of the interview to probe or suggest motives, inferred from my response on ‘investment’ that I am opposed to Peter Obi’s ambition and, therefore, committed a ‘crime’ for which the punishment is internecine abuse and harassment, even to my family.
“Everyone knows that I don’t follow the winds or one to succumb to bullies, or shy away from a good fight especially, when weighty matters of principles and future of the people are involved.”
Soludo said he had urged Obi to return to his former party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to actualise his presidential bid. He added that he had always told the LP candidate to his face that he was not capable of winning the 2023 presidential election, especially, under LP, which had neither a councillor nor a local government chairman.
Soludo said Obi was not just his friend, but also his brother, but despite that, they have their political differences.
He stated, “For full disclosure, let me state that Peter Obi and I are not just friends, we call ourselves ‘brothers’. But we have political differences: he left APGA for PDP after his tenure as governor, while I have remained in APGA since 2013.
“During the last two governorship elections in Anambra in 2017 and 2021, he led the PDP campaigns but APGA won landslide in both elections. By the way, in 2016, he visited and proposed that I defect to PDP and contest the 2017 election against the incumbent Willie Obiano, but I declined.
“After my victory in November 2021, he called to congratulate me, as I did to him in 2010. That is the Anambra way: we fight fiercely during campaigns but share drinks at the next social events. After all, it was the Great Zik of Africa, who taught us that in politics, there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies but only permanent interests.”
Arguing that Obi’s presidential bid would only work in favour of Tinubu, Soludo said, “Indeed, if I were Asiwaju Tinubu, I would even give Peter Obi money as someone heading one of the departments of his campaign, because Obi is making Tinubu’s pathway to victory much easier by indirectly pulling down PDP.”
Obi, according to Soludo, would only deplete the votes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pave the path for an APC victory.
He stated, “The current fleeting frenzy, if not checked, will cost Ndigbo dearly for years. The South-east has the lowest number of votes of any region, but it is also the only region where the presidential race might be a four-way race (it is a two-way race in the other five regions) thereby, ensuring that our votes won’t count in the making of the next president of Nigeria.
Zico5: To be sincere, I prefer anything but Tinubu. Tinubu has weaponised and institutionalised poverty in this country. With everything on ground, we should run away from anything APC and Tinubu. If you are still campaigning for Tinubu, we need to check your brain. Something is wrong with it.
If Pandora Bitter Obi runs again to divide PDP’s votes in the tribal south yeast, then we will continue with APC’s shege that was fraudulently sold as change in 2015.
No prophet needs to do any prophecy for this.

Guynexttdoor: Something diff will unfold 2027, obi won't contest for 2027 presidential election, Atiku will comeout with another person as his vice and obi will support him.
I hope that Makinde will be the running mate for neutralising the Yoruba tribal factor.
