It left me wondering if this was a school or a dump yard. Why in heaven's name are Nigerian leaders looking the other way while the young ones study in this sorry environment?

SB2020:
Interesting facts about Addis Ababa and Lagos light rail projects.

Addis Ababa / Lagos
Cost == $475Million / $1.2Billion
Length == 34km / 27km
Time to Complete == 4years / 7years (projected)
Year Awarded == 2011 / 2008 (Construction began 2010)
Contractor == China Railway Eng. Corp (CREC) /Chinese Civil Eng. Constr. Coy (CCECC)
Population == 5Million / 20Million

Ethiopia has managed to deliver Sub-Saharan Africa’s first modern light rail project which opened in the capital Addis Ababa on Sunday, and in the process, beat Lagos whose own rail project remains four years behind schedule.

Ethiopia’s rail project was delivered on time, despite its being longer than the Lagos – Badagry rail line currently under construction.

Addis Ababa’s two line 34-kilometre system was built by the China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and cost $475m, 85 percent of which has been covered by China’s Exim bank. The Lagos Light Rail Project or Blue on Badagry Expressway, was to have 13 stations from Okokomaiko to Marina via Iddo for a total of 27 kilometres.

The contract was awarded to the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) at the cost of $1.2 billion in 2008, and was to be delivered in 2011. Survey work took one year between August 2009 and August 2010 while construction began July 2010.

The work is being implemented using the public and private partnership (PPP) model, whereby the state builds the infrastructure and the private sector provides the rolling stock and management. However, the project has not worked out according to the plan.
The 2011 deadline was missed, even though the State government got a loan to fund the project.

Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.

Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019.

Last year, Nigeria overtook India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, thereby becoming the world capital of poverty, according to the Brookings Institute. This year, the number has risen to 91.6 million from 87 million in June 2018. Every minute, six Nigerians enter the group of extremely poor people, according to the World Poverty Clock.

https://businessday.ng/uncategorized/article/lagos-ranks-amongst-worst-cities-to-live-in-for-nine-straight-years/
Lagos scored very low in all the five metrics used to assess an individual’s lifestyle,

On the stability metric, Lagos scored 20 per cent, the same point as Damascus.

Under the healthcare category, the city scored 20.8 per cent, the same point it got last year.

For culture and environment, Lagos finished with 44.9 per cent while on education metric, the city scored 25 per cent.

Nigeria’s former capital maintained 46.4 per cent for the infrastructure category.

Same old record

Over the last five years, Lagos’ position remained largely at the bottom of the EIU liveability ranking.

In 2021, Nigeria’s largest city was ranked the second worst city to live in after Damascus.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the EIU did not release a liveability ranking in 2020.

However, in 2019, Lagos was again the least liveable city in the world after Damascus.

In 2018, Nigeria’s commercial nerve center became the third worst city to live in among 140 cities worldwide.

In 2017, Lagos fell again to the second worst liveable city.

Lagos is the only Nigerian city measured in the ranking and so it is difficult to determine how other Nigerian cities would have ranked.

The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.

The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.

Why is LASG encroaching on the responsibilities of its 20 LGAs?
Is it incompetence of misplaced priorities by the governor and the state assembly lawmakers? Or it is the greed for raising IGR from the people's pockets so as to loot it, which is what Tinubu has done since 1999 instead of recruiting workers yearly to deliver the basics of governance like free education, healthcare and water.

I was in love with this guy so much that we do everything together. Aside from the fact that we share the same goals, religion put us far from each other. He was a muslim and I, a christian. I loss my virginity to him (we were both naive in that practice anyway). My parents forbid me and we drifted apart but I loved him still.

I met another guy afterward who shares the same belief with me and we got married three years later. Infact, my ex came for the wedding and celebrated me even during the reception( my husband already know his story and was not surprised when he saw him at the wedding).

A year after the birth of my son, I had an official assignment in another location where my ex's sister resided and because I could not complete the assignment that day, I decided to sleep over at her place. But on getting there, I saw my ex sitting in the living room. It was already late as at that time and I couldn't go back or book for a hotel and I decided to chilled out, telling myself that nothing must happen between us that day. undecided My greatest mistake!

The apartment was just 3 bedroom. A master bedroom for the sister, a room for the children and the other for a visitor. Now we are having two visitors who once shared a thing for each other. cry My ex invited me into the room but I declined telling him I would rather sleep on the floor in the living room or he should bring a matrass for me. He brought the mattress in the visitors room into the living room and we both slept on it. One thing led to another in the middle of the night.... cry cry cry cry cry . And it happened! Coincidentally, my husband called at that time. I had to switched off my phone.

When I got back home the next day, I apologized to my husband that I had a flat battery and he didn't say anything but my husband never looked at me the same again. He never quarreled or said anything even after couple of years later. But the way he talks sometimes as if he kws I am hiding a secret from him and he wants me to open up to him. My fear is that if I should open up, I might lose my marriage and my family. What happened between my ex and I was a one time thing. I never went back or saw him again. It has been 10 years now and I am still feeling bad about it especially when he talked about cheating couple.

This feeling is eating me up. I don't know if I should still open up to him or I should forever remain silent about it....

Lmao . Go and check facts bro . Crude was at an all time high during Jonathan . ALL of the infrastructure that JOnathan continued or finished were started during Obasanjo’s terms . Which universities ? giving licences to establish universities means nothing . Same administration of Jonathan gave licences for refineries and still gave sole licences to import kerosene , diesel etc to individuals without any agreement to sell crude to the licence owners .

Yardua is the only president that reduced the price of fuel , cleared fuel queues within a week by giving his petroleum minister marching orders , SOLVED the Niger delta militancy etc . Because some bad people used his sickness while he was incapacitated to perpetuate evil does not mean he was a bad president .
Was YarÁdua sick already when he was kicking Ribadu's ass around to protect Ibori for bankrolling his Iwuruwuru INEC election?
Did YarÁdua not cancel all of Obasanjo's projects, which Jonathan revived and did?
Reducing fuel price alone is not enough to wipe away all his fundamental incompetence and looting. Neither does seeming to be intelligent with nice words cover up his wickedness.

Oil was highest in 2009 under Yar'Adua and started declining in 2013. You can fact-check it.

You should stop swallowing propaganda anyhow instead of doing extensive fact-checks.

Ex-Enron, Merrill execs sentenced. A repentant Boyle gets nearly four years for his involvement in barge scandal

May 13, 2005

Former Enron executive Dan Boyle was sentenced to nearly four years in prison Thursday, while Robert Furst and William Fuhs, both former Merrill Lynch bankers, received more than three years — all for their roles in the Enron Nigerian barge scam.

Boyle, sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison and fined $320,000, was the only one who appeared repentant about pushing through a sham sale of energy-generating barges to the bank so Enron could pump its earnings and bolster its stock price.

"I'm the only one responsible for my actions and omissions and for the pain I caused each and every person I affected," the Clear Lake resident told the judge. "I'm truly sorry."

Buhari queries Obasanjo over $16bn power project

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday querried the spending of $16bn on power project during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The president was speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving the Buhari Support Organization led by the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Ahmed Ali.

Buhari did not mention Obasanjo's name, but asked where was the power after a former president claimed to have spent $16bn on the project.

The House of Representatives had in 2008 described $16 billion spent on power by Obasanjo's government as colossal waste, blaming it on "poor budget planning and a lack of proper oversight by relevant bodies.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project had also in 2016 urged the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Water Samuel Onnoghen, to immediately appoint an independent counsel to investigate allegations of corruption in the spending of $16 billion on electricity by Obasanjo's government.

Why do you just keep mentioning my post?
Are you saying Lagos didn't employ teachers?

I think you need to do your research well
Moreso Seyi isn't the first to do such in Oyo state Ajimobi also employed teachers
Infact Ajimobi employed for both primary and secondary schools
Why don’t you just provide the link for your claim? What percentage of children are in government schools since 1999 that ThiefNuibu and his boys have been robbing 20 million lay? Is that not a good measure if they have been employing teachers every year? So what is the progressive label for their politics if they can’t do free education for all childrenhuh

I can't really speak on what is obtainable outside Nigeria, but it is desirable that we maintain a semblance of parity between political office pay and civil service pay.

Both are public service.

You remember that even Okonjo Iweala made it known that she cannot accept a minister's salary in Nigeria, considering what she was earning at the world bank in 2003.

Gani Fawehinmi had to take the matter to court to prevent the OBJ regime from paying her more than what other ministers were earning.
You should work with others relentlessly to achieve what you say is desirable, knowing what the comprehensive advantages are.

Okonjo Iweala was not paid by the Nigerian government, you can find out and also there are a number of expatriates/repatriates who are under similar schemes till now.

How is it corruption?

You are more enlightened than this.

This is a topic that should elicit interest in a beer parlour or mechanic garage.

Political appointments come with better pay than civil service careers.

It has nothing to do with the party or President in power.
Was there so much difference between the total packages in the 1970s when we had so many Nigerian lecturers and doctors in the country instead of exporting themselves like the Andrews of today?
