PoliticsHow Ali Humiliated Dino, Other Senators At Customs Headquarters by AnotherZik(op): 8:29am On Jan 30, 2018
Monday’s encounter between Senate ad hoc committee members and the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Col. Hameed Ali (retd) at the NCS headquarters in Abuja threw up dramatic scenes which started over the refusal of the latter to come downstairs to welcome the lawmakers upon arrival.

Members of the Senate ad hoc committee on Economic Waste had arrived the Zone 3 Abuja headquarters of the NCS to carry out some investigations in purported economic waste in the Service. They included Senators Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West), Sam Anyanwu (PDP Imo East), Gilbert Nnaji (PDP Enugu East), Hamman Isah Misau (APC Bauchi Central) and Babajide Omoworare (APC Osun East).

It all started when Melaye observed that the Customs CG breached protocol by not coming down from his office to receive members of the committee into the premises but rather waited to meet them at the conference room.

Noting that the protocol had been observed by statutory bodies like Customs, Immigration and Prisons over the years, he wondered why Ali did not accord the committee such courtesy.

Melaye drew the attention of the Customs CG to the fact that the meeting was like a typical Senate session, thus must be treated with respect despite the fact that it was taking place at the headquarters of the NCS. To drive home his point, the lawmaker hit the gavel on the table before him to declare the meeting open.

PoliticsBuhari Presidency Now Exporting Deception - PDP by AnotherZik(op): 9:42pm On Jan 29, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  says the naming of President Muhammadu Buhari as African Union, AU, anti-corruption champion is laughable, derisory and eminently qualified as Africa’s joke of the year.

The opposition party said it was clear that AU leaders were not abreast with happenings in Nigeria, including alleged sleazes going on around the Buhari presidency and were misled by the APC-led federal government, which plans to use the naming as face-saving stunt for the administration.

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP said it was embarrassing that the Presidency, in desperation to launder its battered image, would resort to exporting its deceptive proclivities to the international arena.

It maintained that the AU would not have honoured Buhari if it knew that what obtains in Nigeria is direct persecution of opposition under the guise of war against corruption, while officials of government purportedly swim head deep in corruption under the overt protection of the Presidency.

PoliticsWhy Plot To Remove Saraki Will Fail - Senate by AnotherZik(op): 8:36am On Jan 29, 2018
The upper legislative chamber says any plot to remove Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate President would fall flat on its face, because he currently enjoys the confidence of members and has ensured stability in the current Senate.

Newsworth recalls that the lawmaker representing Bauchi Central, Isah Misau, had alleged that a minister was spearheading a move to remove the Senate President because of his alleged plan to defect from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“When we were on holiday, so many people were going behind that they should try and remove the senate president. During this holiday, a minister was spearheading that thing.

“What is the reason?  They said the Senate president would leave APC, that they should create problems for him (Saraki). What kind of country is this? Everything is about religion, about tribe,” Misau had said.

Addressing reporters at the weekend, the Senate spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the 109 senators have the right to choose their leaders by election, and had done so in line with the relevant laws.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has reacted to the various killings going on around the country, particularly in Benue and Taraba states.

Dogara cried out that the country was being painted 'Red' with Blood. In his address to Lawmakers on resumption from the Christmas/New year break, the speaker condemned the violence in Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Adamawa and Rivers state. He said;

"Indeed, at no time in the recent past has the nation’s peace and unity been so vigorously and persistently challenged. This, however, is the real test for true leadership.

Our dear country is now being painted red with the blood of the innocents on account of unremitting bedlam callously promoted by cold-hearted merchants of death.

At these moments of intense outpouring of grief across the nation, it is important that we shun buck-passing and accept responsibility for these wanton killings without which we will never find a solution to this evil."

Catholic bishops on killings by herdsmen: ‘It’s easier to prevent than stop war’

Against the backdrop of incessant killings by herdsmen, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has warned that Nigerians might resort to self-defence if the Federal Government continued to fail in its responsibility of protecting the citizenry against attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

It noted that Nigeria appeared “to be under siege from many forces, while innocent citizens in different communities throughout the nation are being attacked and their sources of livelihood mindlessly destroyed.”

The position of the bishops was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by its President and Archbishop of Jos, Ignatius Kaigama, and Secretary/Bishop of Gboko, William Avenya; which warned that “it is wiser and easier to prevent a war than to stop it after it has broken out”.

1clickng:
The Nigerian government has called for the support of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in providing lasting solutions to the farmers and herdsmen crisis in the country.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau disclosed this after a meeting with the President of the ECOWAS commission, Marcel De Souza at the ECOWAS secretariat Abuja.

This is one of the efforts being employed by federal government in tackling herdsmen crisis and to ensure that justice was meted out on the perpetrators.

Dambazau after the meeting told newsmen that the discussion was bordered on regional security as herder/farmers clashes alongside terrorists attacks became worrisome

He called for a ministerial conference of ECOWAS member states in order to come up with a framework that will address the trans-border crimes, which he said had contributed to the conflict.

As part of the plans to expedite processes of the employment, Governor Fayose had selected two persons among the applicants from each local council to partake in the coordination of CVs and selection of qualified prospective employees for further actions.

He cautioned the youths against the intake of hard and harmful substances, with a promise to continue to support and provide enabling the environment for them to thrive.

Earlier, the state’s N-Power focal person on social safety programme and commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Chief Gbenga Olajide, estimated the numbers of those who applied for the N-Power programme to be over eight thousand, among which over seven thousand have been verified and forwarded to Abuja for onward approval.

CareerRe: Africa Is Experiencing “brain Gain” As Young Elite Graduates Give Up On The West by AnotherZik: 7:23am On Jan 17, 2018
socialconscious:
In July 2017, Alexandra Ndiwalana, 28, moved back to Johannesburg, South Africa after ten months of pursuing her MBA at the IE Business School in Madrid. By returning home right after completing her studies abroad, Ndiwalana joined an emerging crop of African graduates that seem to be reversing the continent’s long-running brain drain problem. It’s a trend that offers some hope of bridging the continent’s huge skills gap.

Nearly 70% of African MBA students at the top 10 US and European schools planned to return home and work after graduation, found a survey by Jacana Partners, a pan-African private equity firm. Another study shows nine in ten African PhD students studying abroad plan to work on the continent.

Motivations behind the trend are understandable given the once-promising “Africa rising” narrative and the continent being home to some of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Today, however, that narrative has grown increasingly doubtful due to a downturn in the commodities boom that had driven it in the decade running up to 2015. With slowing economic growth, the longstanding lack of infrastructure, corruption and high unemployment challenges, it would be difficult to make an impact—even if you’re an expensively trained graduate from a top American or European university.

When Ndiwalana left her job as a management trainee at a multinational brewery and beverage company in South Africa, she went to Spain with plans to “do everything she could to stay.” She applied for jobs long before graduation, but hiring preferences foiled her overseas ambitions. Reactions to job interviews betrayed the same sentiment: “You’re a great candidate; if only you were European.”

Disappointed and disillusioned, Ndiwalana set her sights on returning home partly because she didn’t want to become like many of her peers who settled for positions for which they were clearly overqualified. She says many sacrificed career advancement simply for the chance to remain in Europe or North America.

“In the West, it seems like there’s a glass ceiling—le plafond de verre—that cannot be broken,” says Chams Diagne, founder of Talent2Africa, a Dakar-based recruitment agency that specializes in bringing African talent home. “People are moving back to grow their careers faster.”

Ndiwalana became one such example. Soon after coming back to South Africa, she landed a senior marketing analytics role at Uber’s Sub-Saharan Africa division.

The reverse-migration trend has led to the rise of professional matchmaking and networking services, like Talent2Africa and others such as Movemeback and MBTN Global—both based in the UK—that pair diaspora talent with opportunities in Africa.

Regardless of talk of an economic downturn, the international corporations—beyond traditional energy and commodity players—opening up in fast-growing African cities suggest a different reality on the ground. “Most western organizations are investing more in Africa because Africa is the next frontier,” Diagne says.

This has led to a notable trend where multinationals on the continent are contributing to the brain gain movement. Several of these corporates are now replacing expatriates with top talent from the diaspora, says Diagne. The companies and international NGOs usually cite reasons such as cost (paying salaries midway between a local’s and an expatriate’s), cultural ties, and security—where “repat” executives might “blend in” and speak the local language.

“There’s typically a pay cut some people need to come to terms with,” Diagne says, comparing it with what a manager or an executive might be paid in dollars or euros in New York or Paris. But while it might seem unfair, he says employers make great efforts to sweeten their offers to returnees by providing free or discounted housing, transportation, education or assistance with student loans.

One such returnee who accepted a pay cut on relocating to South Africa is Guy Kamguia, a Cameroonian-American and Harvard Business School alum. Prior to moving to South Africa in 2016, Kamguia, 32, worked as an associate with the global markets management team at Credit Suisse in New York. “I took a 20% to 30% pay cut from what I was making,” Kamguia says.

But he didn’t mind earning less because in the US he wasn’t making the kind of impact to which he aspired. Now, as strategic business manager for Africa growth and strategy at Philafrica Foods, Kamguia is finally realizing his dream of developing manufacturing on the continent by acquiring and building food processing plants throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

“If you have an MBA, a law or medical degree, yes you’ll take a pay cut, but if you factor in the cost of living and do the math, you’re actually saving more,” he says.

Kamguia says more of his friends who were African students at business school are going back home. “There’s a genuine sense that if you’re not going back to fix Africa, who is going to do it? There is a sense of responsibility.”

That sense that there’s more to your work experience than simply earning the fattest paycheck has been well covered with millennials in western countries and it’s no different for young Africans, particularly those that seem to have the world at their feet, thanks to their world-class degrees.

“Something’s happening more generally where young people are looking for something better aligned with their internal compass,” says Oyin Solebo, co-founder of London-based Movemeback.

Since Movemeback’s launch in 2014, the company has grown to over 10,000 members, the biggest concentration of which fall between ages of 28 and 35. They have partnerships with elite internationals schools including Harvard, Columbia, Cambridge and Oxford.

Chatter about moving to Africa grows louder around graduation time, says Bradley Mensah, president of Columbia University’s African Students Association. Africans used to believe prosperity was only possible by leaving Africa for the Western countries, he says. Now, there is a “perception that prosperity is possible on the continent as well.”

For Adabara Abdullahi, founder of MBTN Global, the returnee’s motives for relocating are more nuanced depending on whether or not the returnee was born on the continent and the financial status of African-born migrants. While first-generation Western citizens of African descent are often driven by Sankofa ideals of reconnecting with their roots and elevating the continent, the story isn’t quite the same for those born on the continent.

“Most people who come to the UK or to the US from [Africa] to go to university, upon graduation, what they want to do is stay. They want to stay and they want to get some work experience here.

“The people who upon graduating want to move back are either people from really wealthy families who upon graduating, return home and join the family business,” he says, “or people who upon graduation, their student visas have run out and they’re not able to find a job that will sponsor a work visa for them, so they have no choice but to move back.”

Maudo Jallow, a recent MS graduate at the London School of Economics, falls in the former group. After spending nine years abroad attending university and boarding school, the 23-year-old is happy to be back on the continent. He says his parents sent him abroad with the desire to get the “best education” and return to Gambia—not to take over the family business as such but to continue in the footsteps of his father, a UN official in Uganda.

“Unfortunately, our institutions aren’t valued globally so to get the best education, you need to go to elite universities abroad. It’s almost fashionable,” Jallow says. But realistically, “we don’t need everybody to move back. “Move back if you have money to fall back on, an idea to implement or a tangible way to contribute.”

With Brexit, the Trump presidency and increasingly restrictive immigration policies, the trend is likely to increase, says Tomiwa Igun, founder of the Young African MBAs, a voluntary membership group. More undergrads talk about heading home after their visa work permit expires, says Igun.

“People are not willing to go through the hustle to stay in the US,” adds Zainab Raji, YAM’s Communications Lead. In recent months, Raji has also noticed more of her peers in the UK moving back. “It’s a combination of Brexit and it’s hard to get jobs.”

More people are taking the plunge knowing it’s not going to be rosy when you land. This has consequently spurred entrepreneurship and a startup culture.

Some of those entrepreneurs are returnees like Obinna Ukwuani, a Nigerian-American and MIT graduate who moved to Nigeria two years ago with the vision of building a secondary school that would give young Nigerians the technical skills to trigger a “technological and industrial revolution” in the country. Instead, he founded NESA by Makers nesa.makers.ng, a Lagos-based coding academy that trains novice coders in their mid to late twenties to be employable web developers.

Ukwuani also says returnees need to a “soft landing” before moving back, which means having a variety of financial and social safety nets to cushion the impact of relocating to Africa and ease acclimatization.

Nigeria’s recession has affected the return-migration trend there. There was a migration boom up until around 2015, Ukwuani noticed. Now, the economic decline has stemmed the flow, the crash of the naira versus the dollar was particularly harmful to those who still had obligations to meet back in the US or Europe.

“I had friends who left immediately because they had student loans to pay,” Ukwuani says. “You can imagine you go from making $5000 a month to $500 a month, almost overnight.”

But even with those hurdles, he doesn’t see himself returninganytimeUS any time soon.

“In Nigeria, I’m home. America is meant to be a paragon of democracy but it couldn’t be farther away from it,” he says referencing president Trump. “And with Brexit, people are becoming more protectionist and more xenophobic around the world. Part of me recognizes it as human nature. Now the diaspora really needs to think hard about where home is and why they are not here.”

Nigerian equities hit all-time N15.78tr high

Posted By: Taofik Salako On: January 17, 2018

Nigerian equities scored a double yesterday as sustained scramble for quoted shares ballooned the aggregate market value of all quoted equities to N15.783 trillion, the highest in the 57 years of trading at the stock market.

The All Share Index (ASI)-the benchmark index that tracks share prices at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), also rallied to its nine-year high at 44,054.72 points. The ASI had hit 66,000 points at the height of the unprecedented stock bubble in 2008.

The NSE was established as Lagos Stock Exchange in 1960 but it started formal trading in 1961. The NSE began trading with 19 securities; there are more than 160 quoted companies now.

With nearly three gainers to every loser, bullish trend gathered momentum as the management of the NSE yesterday unfolded its strategic plan for the new business year. The ASI recorded a day-on-day increase of 2.17 per cent to close at 44,054.72 points as against its opening index of 43,119.00 points. Aggregate market value of all quoted equities also rose from its opening value of N15.447 trillion to close at N15.783 trillion, representing a net capital gain of N336 billion.

With this, the average year-to-date return jumped to 15.2 per cent, equivalent to net capital gain of about N2.17 trillion so far this year.

At a review of 2017 and preview of 2018 yesterday at the NSE, Chief Executive Officer Mr Oscar Onyema said the outlook for the Nigerian capital market is encouraging.

”Indeed, to some extent, political activities and currency movements will have some effect on the market, but we expect that such impacts will be short lived and the performance of the underlying business activities will ultimately determine market performance,” Onyema said.

He added that the NSE was on track to become a more agile and flexible demutualised securities exchange.

“We are hopeful that the Demutualization Bill will be signed into law in 2018, and are working assiduously with our advisers to fine-tune outstanding aspects of the demutualization project as well as providing clarity and transparency on the process via regular engagement with all our valued stakeholders,” Onyema said.

In 2018, Onyema said the NSE will launch Exchange Traded Derivative instruments and continue to engage with the government on privatization and listing of state owned enterprises in collaboration with the private sector.

The Exchange will also maintain its role as an advocate for the adoption and implementation of market friendly policies.

According to him, in keeping with its objective of taking a vigorous and adaptive approach to strategy execution, the NSE re-assessed its strategic agenda in the light of changing dynamics in both the operating environment and the global exchange landscape against the backdrop of the fourth industrial revolution. This culminated in a new corporate strategy for the 2018 – 2021 period.

“Our efforts will be geared at satisfying our customers, boosting our domestic retail segment, and enhancing our organisation for a demutualized structure,” Onyema said.

eyesoflagostv:
NNPC, NIMASA Partner On Crude Oil Export
source: http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/01/nnpc-nimasa-partner-on-crude-oil-export.html

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in conjunction with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), yesterday convened a meeting of stakeholders in the maritime industry with a view to generating ideas on how best attract maximum benefits from export of the country’s crude oil. A statement issued by NNPC’s spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu said the theme of the meeting was: “Free On-Board (FOB) and Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) Incoterms Framework for Export of Nigerian Crude Oil and Gas.” According to the statement, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in his welcome address told participants that various attempts in the past to transit from the Free-on-Board (FOB) to Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) system of exporting the nation’s crude oil had failed. According to Eyes Of Lagos investigation, The minister stated that there was no better time than now to revisit the issue holistically to determine which of the systems best serves the interest of Nigeria. He therefore urged participants to come up with recommendations to help the Federal Government take appropriate decision on the issue with a view to enhancing the nation’s the economy. In his keynote address, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, said the corporation’s preference for FOB was informed by the prevailing security situation and the need to guarantee steady revenue into the Federation Account. He explained that under CIF, petroleum cargoes are legally the property of the Federal Government which could pose a danger to the country’s earning as creditors could procure court orders to confiscate crude oil cargoes as a means of securing payment of Nigeria’s indebtedness. “The experiences of Nigerian Airways and the Nigerian National Shipping Line both of which had their vessels/crafts and cargoes confiscated on court orders obtained by creditors is unpleasant to recall. “Due to these peculiarities, we find it most appropriate to transfer the potential risks associated with the ownership of the cargo to the buyer at the load port in Nigeria which FOB incoterm allows. Government/NNPC’s liability ends as the crude oil passes from loading hose at the vessel’s manifold to the loading vessel. The buyer pays for Freight, Marine Insurance, unloading and transportation from the load port in Nigeria to the destination”, he stated. He said NNPC was, however, not unmindful of the value erosion inherent in the FOB sale arrangement, adding that the corporation was open to new ideas on the proper mix that could enable synergy and collaboration amongst different stakeholders to guarantee security of federation revenue as well as guard against associated risks involved in delivery of crude oil and Gas to customers. On his part, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, said while there was no correct answer to the issue of freight system to adopt, there was need to be open-minded about possible alternatives that could help in the quest to diversify the economy. He urged participants to be guided by the national interest in their discussion and explore all possible opportunities.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed that the nation’s inflation rate slowed down to 15.37 per cent in 2017, making it the 11th consecutive decline year-on-year since January 2017. The Bureau, in its Consumer Price Index (CPI) December 2017 report, said inflation rate slowed by 0.53 per cent points, lower than 15.90 per cent rate recorded in November. A review of 2017 inflation rate showed that the rate opened at 18.72 per cent in January 2017 to close at 17.78 per cent in February. In March, inflation rate closed at 17.26 per cent, the second decline recorded in two months. The bureau had explained that growing prices in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels, Education and Transport contributed to hike in inflation rate in the first quarter of 2017, following the unstable foreign exchange market. Economy indicator had revealed that, while economy growth declined, the rise in inflation was inevitable as falling exchange rate and rising foreign prices passed through directly to domestic prices. However, the inflation rate closed April at 17.24 per cent, 16.25 per cent in May 2017 and 16.10 per cent in June. In the third quarter, the inflation rate slowed marginally to 16.05 per cent in July, 16.01 per cent in August and 15.98 per cent in September. Towards the end of 2017, October to be precise, Inflation rate moved to 15.91 per cent in October and 15.90 per cent in November. According to Eyes Of Lagos investigation, The report released by NBS yesterday noted that on a month-on-month basis, the headline index increased by 0.59 per cent in December 2017, 0.19 per cent points higher from the rate of 0.78 per cent recorded in November. It said the percentage change in the average composite CPI for the twelve month period ending in December 2017 over the average of the CPI for the previous twelve month period was 16.50 percent, showing 0.26 percent point lower from 16.76 percent recorded in November 2017. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr. Godwin Emefiele at the Annual Bankers’ Dinner in November had said, “Monetary policy stance could change when the underlying fundamentals become supportive. If the pace of disinflation becomes adequate and we see inflation at predicted levels, I am very optimistic that MPC may begin to see strong justification for an easing of monetary policy, which may further accelerate the recovery process. “We believe that it may return to very low double digit or high single digit levels during the next year. Though the base effect had diminished, I expect that as the socio-economic factors that are driving food inflation are resolved the inertia therein would dissipate and the pace of headline disinflation will grow”. Analysts at InvestmentOne Research said December 2017 Inflation report may further confirm expectations for the rise in consumer prices to moderate in 2018, on the back of the high base effect of 2017 as well as the willingness of the present administration to curtail any potential increase in energy and food prices, given the negative impact it may have on re-election prospects. The InvestmentOne Research noted: “Our view remains that as we see headline inflation moderate towards the CBN’s target (11-12per cent) we are likely to see the Apex bank move to a more accommodative monetary policy. “Nonetheless, we see the on-going scarcity of PMS, which contributed to the +18per cent m/m increase in the average PMS price paid by consumers in December 2017 (c.N172/litre), as a potential downside risk to our outlook, as well as disruptions to activities in the Agriculture sector and election spending”. Elaborating on the implications, they said potential for a further decline in the rate of increase in consumer prices should be a positive for company performances in 2018, which should be a supportive of the equities market. While speaking in Lagos, Minister of Budget and National Planning Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma said, “There is so much potential in the country and it is this potential and the results of our initiatives that make the 2018 outlook so positive. “So, we are targeting a GDP growth rate of 3.5 per cent for this year and 7 per cent by 2020, and an inflation rate of 12.54 per cent for 2018 and single digit inflation of 9.9 per cent by 2020”

FamilyRe: I Would Divorce Her- My Wife Is Callous by AnotherZik: 10:51pm On Jan 16, 2018
Adamrealman78:
After marrying a girl against my parents wishes, for 6yrs with no child. I have never, cursed, abused or beaten her. I pay for two houses, one in Abuja and Lagos cos I work in Abuja. I provide for the home and pay her allowance and pay all utilities. She has a shop in Lagos.

I found out that she is building a house without informing me. I knew she did this cos she thought my family would chase her for her childlessness. I confronted her and she denied it for 7months. Only to own up after her pastor scolded her.

She wanted me to give her 800k to roof the house which I obliged. I now tested her by telling her to lend me 20k to sort out a small issue, only for her to tell me she can't afford to, in spite of a balance of over 200k in her account.

I quietly left the house for my base in Abuja, she didn't even escort me out of the bedroom. My relationship with her is over.

MEN, any woman you sacrifice for and she can't do the same for you is not worth it.
Leave politics to politicians - Presidency tells CAN scribe

The Presidency on Tuesday night requested the General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, to
to face his religious responsibilities and not to meddle into politics.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu stated this in response to the position of the CAN general secretary that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration poses a threat to democracy.

Reacting to killings by herdsmen
across the country, the religious leader accused the President of violating provisions of the 1999 constitution.

But Shehu, in a statement, dismissed Asake’s allegation, insisting that there was no aspect of the constitution that had been breached by his principal.

Sorry I'm not in the habit of clicking random web links, I still dont know what you claim Ozekhome said as your thread title suggests. I can also assure you that 98% of the people on this thread wouldnt also click you web link. If you cant post the info here but expect people to click your nonsense weblink, you've ended up passing no info, except for a misleading title.

@Myndd44, Seun, is this even allowed on this forum? Creating threads with misleading titles and diverting forumites to go read the report on an external website/blog?
You've just shown how much of a playerhater you are. Backend report strongly contradicts your claim and your click adds to the lot. You're apparently not a journalist to place you in a stead to judge the headline as misleading. It has achieved its purpose, so deal with it. It's really pointless exchanging words with you. But note that being a social media enthusiast doesn't make you any inch a journalist. I have better things to do than waste words and time with someone like you. Take your hating elsewhere or goodluck with talking to yourself.
Nairaland GeneralSh*thole Remark: We Have Very High Regard For Nigerians – US Govt by AnotherZik(op): 10:14am On Jan 16, 2018
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, on Monday met with the United States Ambassador to Nigeria to clarify issues regarding an offensive comment credited to the US President, Mr. Donald Trump.

Trump was reported to have used the phrase “shithole countries” to describe Haiti, El Salvador and African countries. During a meeting with congressional leaders in the Oval Office last week. When the lawmakers suggested that protections for immigrants from those countries be restored, the U.S President reportedly asked, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

The American leader has however denied using the phrase on the countries.

The US Ambassador, who was out of Nigeria was represented by the Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the United States of America in Abuja, Ambassador David J. Young.

Onyeama sought clarification on the veracity or otherwise of the substance of the remarks, stressing that if they were true, they were deeply hurtful, offensive and unacceptable, especially given the very warm and cordial relations that presently exist between the Nigerian government and the government of the United States.

Young, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Tope Ade Elias-Fatile, pointed out that there were contradicting accounts by those present as to the veracity or otherwise of the substance of the remarks.

He stressed that the government of his country continued to hold Nigerians “in very high regard” and valued the warm relations and excellent cooperation between the two countries and looked forward to building on this relationship for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
