Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has abolished some levies and taxes in the state as a way of cushioning effects of the current economic recession in the country. Some of the levies suspended include hawkers permit, wheelbarrow tax, sale of consolidated emblems and unapproved levies in primary and secondary schools. Obiano, who addressed the state in special broadcast, said abolishment of the levies and taxes was to cushion the effect of the economic downturn on the people. “Following the formal announcement by the Federal Government that the nation’s economy has gone into a recession, I consider it my duty as your governor to distill the message of the economic situation of the country down to the grassroots. “Following this development too, I am happy to announce to you that I have come up with a stimulus package that will ease the pain of the recession and help our dear state bounce back to prosperity. “I wish to assure you that after a careful study of the situation, I am more convinced now than ever before that with our fundamentals, our infinite capacity to come back from deficits and our implicit faith in God, our story should be different in Anambra State. “Consequently, our intervention comes in four key areas: Tax Relief Programme, Special Intervention Programmes for Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Large Enterprises, Social Intervention Programme for Low Income Households and finally; Intervention in Infrastructure-for-Jobs,” Obiano said. He added that his Tax Relief Programme was meant to evaluate existing taxes, levies and fees in the state and introduce some waivers and, in some cases, scrap the collection of some illegal levies imposed on the people, adding that they would go a long way to cushioning the impact of the recession on households in the state. He said: “I hereby suspend the sale of consolidated emblems in Anambra State. I suspend the collection of hawkers permit on all streets in the state. I suspend the collection of wheelbarrow tax in all markets in the state. “Lastly, I abolish the imposition of unapproved levies on students in public primary and secondary schools in the state. All these pronouncements shall take immediate effect. “My role as your Governor is to envisage challenges and provide solutions that will ensure a speedy comeback from difficult situations that require the power and might of a state government.” Obiano assured the people that his agricultural policy and other intervention measures would sustain hope and life for his people in the prevailing hardship and urged them to support the government to continue to develop that state. The Ocha Brigade team in collaboration with a joint task force has arrested over 20 unaccredited tax collectors in Agulu, Ekwulobia, Uga to forestall further illegal collection of IGR in her jurisdiction. This was in the wake of complaints from indigenes of various communities who complained ceaselessly about the illegal activities of these extortionists and hoodlums parading themselves as IGR Collectors. While speaking to our correspondence, the Chairman of OCHA-BRIGADE stated the outfit's willingness to work and ensure discipline and rid the state of criminals in co-operation with the other law enforcement agents in Anambra State. "We have been receiving reports that some criminal minded elements engage in acts of using Tax and Revenue Collection as a means to harass and extort unsuspecting members of the public. "We got a directive from the Governor to swing into action and apprehend these hoodlums and i can tell you that as at today (12th September 2016) the Ocha Brigade team were able to arrest over 20 of them from Ekwulobia, Uga and Agulu, over harrasement, extortion and illegal revenue collection. The Chairman also went further to implore the residents of Anambra not to hesitate in reporting the activities of any individual or groups who pose as Revenue Collectors to the Law Enforcement Agents to perpetrate their crimes. "All payments of IGR should be made through POS or Banks, he said. SOURCE: www.fb.com/AnambraOnline

Following reports that 23 Terrorists were Arrested in Ukpo this week,a member of the Anambra state House of Assembly, Chief Pete Ibida has debunked the claim by the Anambra Police Command that the 23 persons it paraded on Monday were terrorists. The lawmaker who is representing Njikoka II constituency in the State Assembly told journalists in Awka Thursday that most of the suspects were parties to a lingering land dispute between two neighboring communities of Abagana and Ukpo in Njikoka and Dunukofia local government areas, respectively. He expressed sadness that the State Police Command on Monday paraded 23 suspects picked up at random from the areas and labeled them terrorists. “What really happened, he said, "was a quarrel between Abagana and Ukpo communities over land." “I don’t agree with the police report that those arrested were terrorists. "To say that, amounts to denting the efforts of the state governor, Willie Obiano, who has wonderful long record of zero tolerance for crime and criminality”, the lawmaker stated. The state Commissioner of Police (COMPOL), Mr Sam Okaula who paraded them at the command headquarters in Awka had described them as "terrorists". The Commissioner had also alleged that the suspects attacked a police station in the area. He noted that going by their number, they overwhelmed the four police officers on duty at the time and killed a security guard, named Emmanuel Okafor. He added that, “The assailants went further to bomb the police post and a 10-room self-contained Police Barracks." He said the suspects burnt down two police vehicles. The CP added that “DPO Ukpo, who led a patrol team to the scene, was shot. “Three other policemen received various degrees of bullet wounds from the assailants." Ibida described police action and manner of arrest of his people as indiscriminate and unprofessional. He therefore called for caution and sanity in the handling of this particular matter, as "Anambra people are not terrorists. "I came back from the United States of America two days ago and I have consulted with my people and they have briefed me. “Most of the people arrested were law-abiding people that I have known for a long time. “They can’t be terrorists over night at their advanced ages. “I have also read the profile of the new Anambra Police commissioner, he is a solid policeman. “He should be discreet in the way he handles this matter. His predecessor did well here and Anambra was better for it. He called on the warring communities to sheathe their swords, while calling the state governor and other stakeholders, especially oil magnate, Arthur Eze who is from the area, to wade into the matter to bring back sanity in the two communities. On the allegation that the suspects met, planned and took off from a particular named hotel in Abagana, Mr Robinson Kalu, a supervisor at the hotel who spoke to journalists at the hotel yesterday said the police just stormed the area and indiscriminately arrested everyone in sight. The arrested include customers who were watching a live football match and ten staffers of the filling station, wholesale beer depot, cleaners and security men attached to the complex. He said they were no trouble makers at all. He urged police to be cautious always so that they don't malign innocent law-abiding citizens going about their normal duties.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d_XTIoeKVw A MEMBER OF ANAMBRA STATE ONLINE WHO LIVES IN INDIA JUST SENT THIS VIDEO WITH THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE.... "Dear Admin, my name is Nnabuike and i come from Orumba South in Anambra State. I currently work in a tyre packaging factory in New Delhi, India with my cousins and other Igbo guys mainly from Anambra, Abia and Enugu State." I graduated from UNN with a Degree in Political Science in 2008 and my inability to get a job after 3 years made me relocate to India in search of greener pastures. In the morning as early as 4:00 am, we leave for work at the back of trucks belonging to farmers that rear pigs in the city capital because the white Indians do not allow Black Indians or Africans to board City Buses." This is due to the popular belief in india that black people are outcasts." We have to pay the Pig Farmers who are taking their pigs to the slaughter house in the cold morning 120 rupees (about $2) to our place of work." "We don't have our bath at home because bathing in the house and then sharing the carriage of a truck with Pigs on your way to work is not a good idea." On getting to the factory, we strip and use a hose to spray water on ourselves from a tank filled with trapped rainwater. Then we wear our shorts and begin to work as early as 6:00am and work all through the day until 6:30pm with just 30 mins break in the middle of the day." Our job is very tedious in nature depending on the department or unit. The condition in the workplace can be best described as not fit for humans but heavy duty machines." My own task with some others as you can see in the video is to deflate the tubes before fitting it into the tyres of trucks and buses (WHICH BLACKS AND AFRICAN MIGRANTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BOARD) before they are inflated again and rimmed for inspection and distribution." We are paid based on input and not wages. This means the number of tubes you stuff into the tyre determines your take home for the week." The process of stuffing a tube into a tyre is by sprinkling it with water, depressing the tube, stuffing the tube into the tyre and then rolling the tyre to the pick point which after passing the check on inspection successfully amounts to 5 rupees per tubing which is equivalent to 7cents (20 naira)." The deflation is by depressing it with your knees and foot. If in the process of deflating for insertion and it bursts, 10 successful stuffings are deducted from your work log as punishment." It was discovered that sometimes, the machine that inflates the tube erroneously calculates the volume of air and this causes the tubes to burst but our employers don't care so while working, you just pray to your God that you don't burst or damage a tube." Rolling the huge tyres before and after tubing is another daunting task as they are very big and heavy! Just one tyre can weigh as much as 45kg (Almost the weight of a bag of Rice)." Most times, we sustain various degrees of injury while working. There is no Insurance Cover for us as workers, no benefits or sick leave." Not deterred by this, we work hard so that we will be able to gather enough income to fend for ourselves and send something down home to our families who look up to us." Some of us tube over a 100 tyres per day. There was even a day i tubed up to 220 tyres just to have enough money to send to my sick mother in the village." Though some of our Indian employers are good, most of them are cunning and wicked." When they see that you are very hard working and have done a lot of overtime for you to earn more for the week, they go to the work log and reduce your input so that your salary reduces automatically." You dare not complain or protest because if you do, you may not make it back home alive or you might be set up." We are not allowed to speak to each other during work hours and not allowed to use our phones as they are collected from us at the start of work." Though this particular factory where i work is owned by a kind man and there has not been any reported case of maltreatment from anyone towards the migrant workers but in some other places, some of us are not lucky like one of my cousins called Ebuka." As i write this, Ebuka is currently in prison as he was set up by his employer in the Fertilizer Manufacturing plant where he worked from 2012 till 2014 before he was detained." His offence was simply because he decided to work overtime and after being owed by his boss for close to a month, his work log was worth well over 37,000 rupees which is about $450 which his boss had no intention to pay him. When he complained, his boss secretly planned with some men and they used a 15yr old indian girl to set him up with claims that he attempted to rape her." That was how was sent to jail and has been there for almost 3 years now. The worst part is that his family does not know he is in prison because his mother has High BP and telling her might kill her because he is the only son." Now i am working overtime too with some of his friends who agreed so as to raise the money which we can pay to secure his release before December. My cousin is not the only Nigerian languishing in prison. There are so many other Nigerians there in various prisons all over the country and most of them were set up." When you work so hard and earn a lot of money, they become envious of you and they either plant hard drugs in your apartment without your knowledge or accuse you of rape. Then they form a mob, come to your house and lynch you or the police gets to arrest you and you go to jail if you are lucky." I was able to get this video from the supervisor's phone after he recorded it with the intention of showing it to the factory owner to prove that the tyres were being loaded into the containers which you can see in the video as he was instructed." He left the phone on his table afterwards and went to inspect the rubber smelting section of the factory and since i have good knowledge of the internet, i secretly uploaded the video to My Dropbox without his knowledge. I was lucky i wasn't caught." My reason for sending the video is for you all to know what is happening here so as to be aware of the predicament we Nigerians go through in this place." I wanted to gather what i have saved so i can come back to Nigeria and invest but i was told that the economy in Nigeria presently is in very bad shape and not favorable for investment." I urge you all to pray for us that God will continue to bless the works of our hands and to let Nigerians at home know how most of us work hard to earn a living to become useful to our families." Nnabuike U. SOURCE: www.facebook.com/AnambraOnline |

BoleynDynaSTY:These are a fraction of the market women who were asked to stop selling along the expressway in order to avoid cases of traffic congestion which occurs as a result of their trading activities and some cases where some of them were being knocked down by motorists along the expressway. The state Government provided a permanent "Market Area" with stalls where they were asked to relocate but some were adamant and refused because according to them, they faced "low patronage" as compared to selling along the expressway. The Government then gave them a deadline to relocate and desist from selling along the road or face the wrath of the law and as usual with the stubborn nature of humans, some played the deaf ear and continued. Those who defaulted had their wares seized by the police and Ochanja Brigade before some unscrupulous elements decided to hijack the situation and persuaded them to stage an anti-govt protest. |

“Recession” is trending in Nigeria, according to search results released by Google Nigeria this week, which indicate that interest in the term peaked in July following recent comments on the issue by Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, and Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun. Anambra State tops the list of states in Nigeria combing the search engine for all terms related to “recession”, ahead of the FCT in second place, Rivers State, which lies in third place and cosmopolitan Lagos. Apparently, other states do not have a significant number of queries. Not surprisingly, related questions asked on Google include “what is recession / recession definition”; “how to survive in economic recession” and “how to make money in a recession” Nigeria is also one of the top three countries with the most searches for the term globally, coming third in a list that includes the United Arab Emirates; Singapore; Canada; Ireland; South Africa and the U.S.A. According to analysts, Nigeria’s recession was triggered by a dip in government revenues and spending in the wake of the fall in global crude oil prices. It’s likely to be a bumpy ride ahead for the country, so it’s important to live by the first rule for surviving a recession-Start saving money now. skitcentral:We don't need Peter Obi's sponsorship of any sort. We felt we bring this to light because of the nature of reports we were reading online. It doesn't speak well for Anambrans. As a media outfit, you should understand that getting negative allegations and stories about leaders are almost constant occurrences. It is either your duty to print it or reject it. Pledging allegiance to leaders should not be what an Independent media outfit should be doing. We did not pledge allegiance to anybody but only advised the public to criticise their leaders constructively. On exactly Tuesday the 12th of July 2016, we the team of ANSOM Anambra State Online Media received an email on Facebook by some group of persons who requested that we publish an article on our page. As our policy demands, we replied that the article be sent in a draft for us to review, in order to determine if it is worth publishing and to notify them of what it would involve to post the article either as an advert or contributory post on our page before giving our terms. We got the article same day and when we perused it, we found the contents to be mind-boggling. It was an article which was written about or should we say against the person of the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi. We wouldn't begin to enumerate all the strong and repugnant content of the article as doing that will take a lot of time but in summary, the content was articulated on the personal life of Mr. Peter Obi in very heavy phrases which would leave any reader bewildered in awe and disdain for the former Governor. The article which to us is a "Hate Article" enumerated so many sins, abominations and misconduct perpetrated by Peter Obi ranging from Money Laundering, Petty Theft, Drug Trafficking, Cultism and even Sexual Offences ranging from Rape, Incest and Pedophilia. We thereafter called for an emergency board meeting and unanimously decided that we would not publish the article not just because it would be too demeaning to Mr Obi but also because it was most likely an article conceptualized on the basis of personal vendetta and most likely devoid of facts. We relayed this decision to the person(s) who sent it in and they tried to coax us into rescinding on that decision with juicy monetary offers but since a good name is worth more than gold and silver, we stood our ground. This is our standpoint! We the team of Anambra State Online Media ANSOM are not in anyway sponsored by any person or group of persons whether financially, materially or otherwise in order to curry favor from any such individuals or group which inadvertently will reflect on the articles which we post on our page. It is true that we may have made attempts in the past for sponsorship from the Anambra State Government in terms of finance, logistics and manpower to move this scheme beyond what it is today but such efforts were frustrated by the Media Unit of the Anambra State Government House. When that happened, we did not rest on our oars or throw our cargo overboard in retreat but decided to continue with the little resources we had at the time. We had just one major focus which was to showcase to the world the transformation which was underway in Anambra and to also unite Anambrans wherever they are both at home and in Diaspora. We can beat our chests to say that Anambra State Online is growing by the day with more members joining and counting. Whatever we publish here on our page or outside facebook is usually investigated, verified and confirmed to be factual before we post it without minding whose ox is gored! So it would be laughable to think that anyone will come out of the shadows to make mouth-watering offers for us to tilt the truth! In this case scenario involving Peter Obi, what then is the truth? ANAMBRA STATE ONLINE AND PETER OBI Peter Obi is not known to us personally! We have no affiliation with him neither have we met him in person. We only see and know Peter Obi as the former Chief Executive of Anambra State whose ascent to the apex seat of power in Anambra State was a dramatic one in which the people of Anambra embraced whole-heartedly and saw the decisions of the Courts who gave the ruling as hope to the common man. Peter Obi took over from Dr. Chris Ngige who was under the PDP at the time after his victory at the courts that sacked Ngige in August 2005, where an election Tribunal led by Justice Nabaruma nullified Ngige's 2003 victory. Ngige appealed to the Nigerian Federal Court of Appeal, but the annulment was confirmed on 15 March 2006, in a judgment awarding victory to Peter Obi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). No further appeals were possible, and Ngige accepted the judgment in good grace, calling on the people of Anambra to give their total support to his successor in the person of Peter Obi. It is noteworthy to elucidate that before we were approached by the individuals with the anti-Obi publication, we had on saw a couple of messy write-ups about him scattered here and there on social media. As normal practice entails, we scout online content about various incidences and events and on some occasions, we stumbled upon various anti-Peter Obi publications especially on Facebook. At first, we waved it off as one of the antecedents of probably those who had one form of personal grouse with him or the other but the trend of such reports became so consistent that we knew something was not just right. There was an occasion where it was reported that he was wanted by the EFCC which we felt was normal because one would agree that the EFCC may on some occasions invite an ex-governor to clear some issues on financial misappropriation which may have been noticed and moreover, in this present political atmosphere which seems to be in favor of APC as against the opposition PDP of which Peter Obi recently decamped to from APGA. On another occasion, we came across another publication about Peter Obi embarrassed by the Former Vice President Chief Alex Ekwueme in a gathering where it was postulated that the Elder Statesman told Obi that he was a shame to Ndigbo and wanted to leave the event until Peter Obi rushed to plead with him. About two days later, a refutal was presented by the media spokesperson of Peter Obi denying that anything like that ever happened. Then came a report that Peter Obi was involved with a woman somewhere in Indonesia who had a love child for him but details about it was sketchy but the big one was where his daughter was said to have confessed that her father(Peter Obi) was molesting her sexually at night! WE AT ANAMBRA ONLINE ASK: Where is the evidence that backs up all these stories if they ever happened? Have any of the victims come out publicly to say that Peter Obi is actually guilty of these crimes he is accused of? If Peter Obi is as bad as these people say he is, why didn't all these things come to light in the event of his campaign for the seat of Governor or during his tenure? Why are all these ugly details revealed now? Is this a smear campaign to destroy his political ambition in the Senate? Is it actually because they are true or merely because of his exit from the fold of the All Peoples Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)? If yes, when has it become a crime for one to change his political views where it suits him? What baffles us at Anambra Online is that majority of the individuals who are behind this reports are Anambrans! We at Anambra Online do not know if these reports against the person of Peter Obi are actually true but we would like to iterate that if they are, then it can be said that the people behind them are raising their voices in unison for justice, which is morally right. But if these publications and reports are merely because of Peter Obi's change of Political Party or merely because they have a score to settle with him personally or in politics, then we can surely say that it is nothing but an assassination of his character which can be seen as a very serious offence if he (Peter Obi) decides to take legal action. Peter Obi should not be hated just because of his decision to decamp to PDP because Peter Obi committed no crime but only exercised his RIGHT OF ASSOCIATION as a citizen. This is stipulated in Chapter 4 Section 40 of the CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA 1999 and states thus: "Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, AND IN PARTICULAR HE MAY FORM OR BELONG TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY, trade union or any other association for the protection of his interests: Provided that the provisions of this section shall not derogate from the powers conferred by this Constitution on the Independent National Electoral Commission with respect to political parties to which that Commission does not accord recognition." If Peter Obi was or is involved in any form of heinous crime, he should be reported to the Law Enforcement Agents who will investigate and if there is proof, he will be prosecuted. Writing publications against him amounts to nothing but what we can term as giving the dog a bad name in order to hang it. Anambra State Online hereby states that on no condition will we be involved in shame-naming any individual no matter how highly placed or insignificant he or she may be because of the monetary gains or just for the fun of it. We are here to unite and NOT TO DISINTEGRATE Anambrans. It is high time we Anambrans come together as one and stop this politics of hate. We need to be our brother's keeper. We are all aware of the struggle by some indigenous groups like the IPOB who clamor for the Sovereign State of Biafra. If peradventure, the struggle comes to effect, is this how the Igbos will fight themselves? This is the reason why the Northerners and South Westerners (Hausa and Yoruba) treat us like second-class citizens. They know that the Igbos are not united like they are. The Hausas more especially forge a common front among themselves irrespective of State of Origin. Whenever or wherever they gather, they don't see each other as Kano, Kastina, Sokoto, Gombe indigenes but Hausas. A very good example of where this played out was in the last elections on 2015 that saw Mohammed Buhari as president. There was never a scenario where someone from Bauchi or Zamfara said the he does not support Buhari because he is from Kastina. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Igbos. It is a common sight on social media to see where someone from Imo State who verbally abuses someone from Anambra simply because he is from Imo, someone from Enugu mocking someone from Abia and vice versa. The indigenous states are not left out. For example, someone from Agulu will berate someone who hails from Aguleri in the same Anambra State simply because Peter Obi and Willie Obiano are from these places respectively...WHAT A CRYING SHAME! Incidentally, today the 19th of July marks the Birthdays of two former friends now rivals Chief Victor Umeh and Mr. Peter Obi! Anambra State Online felicitated with them on our page and we wish them long life and success in their political endeavor. Both Men are contesting for the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat and we should give them our support devoid of party politics. If Peter Obi wins the seat, it is a victory for Anambra Central, if Chief Victor Umeh wins it, it is still a victory for Anambra Central. If our politicians are having issues among themselves, let us leave it for them to resolve rather than fan the embers of hatred on Social Media and allowing ourselves to be tools for sowing seeds of hatred among our children as the ordinary citizens. Chris Ngige, Victor Umeh, Peter Obi are our brothers. Each one of them has in the past made their impact in the political circle of our dear state which they will be remembered for though they belong to various political parties from the PDP, APGA and APC. None among them is saint and each has their own flaws. These political parties came to be at a certain date and on a particular day in the future, they will cease to exist. But the legacies a man leaves behind is what will last for almost a life time. What we owe them is our prayers and God's guidance to serve us with the fear of God in their hearts including the present Governor of Anambra State Dr. Willie Obiano. Umu Nnam, a word is enough for the wise. Enough of all these hate campaigns which further divides our resolve as brothers. Let us bear in mind the popular Igbo slogan "Igwebuike" which means "There Is Unity in Strength". This message is not just for Anambrans alone but Ndigbo in general! ...Truth is many feel agitated seeing Obi break bounds...others feel he is a big threat to their political career...while some others cannot get over his joining PDP and dumping APGA...While yet others feel, he took food out of their mouth through his governance style...And others are his natural enemies...I don't know where you belong in these groups but I will be patient to see your list of Peter Obi's sins before concluding.
