Appointing a former military ruler’s son to head a major bank raises more than a few eyebrows. Nigerians deserve appointments based on merit and expertise not legacy or influence. This choice should be weighed more on competence, not connections.

How do we chose these appointments in Nigeria? Is by “man know man” and inheritance of your father’s favors owed or competence in leadership and experience. Because each one has a different outcome to how the nation turns out

Tinubu Appoints Muhammad Babangida, IBB Son, As Chairman Of Bank Of Agriculture

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, the son of the former military President, as chairman of the revamped Bank of Agriculture.
 
President Tinubu approved the appointment today, along with seven others. Some of them will serve as chairmen or directors-general of Federal agencies.
 
Muhammad Babangida, 53, is an alumnus of the European University in Montreux, Switzerland, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Public Relations and Business Communication. He later attended Harvard Business School's Executive Program on Corporate Governance in 2002.
 
Others appointed by the President are:
 
Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna State) Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA).
 
Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano State) Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
 
The Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano State) is the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) chairman.
 
Sanusi Musa (SAN, Kano State) is the Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution(IPCR).
 
Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto State) is the Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA).
 
Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara State) is the Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN).
 
Mrs Tomi Somefun (Oyo State) is the Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).
 
Dr Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State) has been appointed Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi are some of the leading presidential aspirants under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) set to support whoever is eventually decided by the party as the presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The agreement, already in principle negotiated, depends on the conduct of its “transparent” leading partner — a clause all rivals vow is not open to haggling.

Amaechi confirmed the news when he stated that the aspirants were in principle agreeing to back the winner but emphasized the necessity of defining precisely what a “transparent” process was.

“What we have agreed is that whoever comes out of an open primary will enjoy the support of all,” Amaechi stated.

“But let’s first of all sit down and agree what we mean by open because it is very easy for one man to hijack the process and still refer to it as open,” he added.

Interim national chairman of ADC, Senator David Mark, has also assured that no candidate has been adopted and the party will remain neutral.
