The Iraqi government has official announced that henceforth, December 25th, Christmas Day, will be a national holiday to celebrate “the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ”.

On Twitter, the government of the middle eastern nation said:

The @IraqiGovt announces Christmas Day to be an official holiday across Iraq. Happy Christmas to our Christian citizens, all Iraqis and to all who are celebrating around the world.

According to a report from CNN, Iraq had about 1.4m Christians but the number has reduced to roughly 300,000 after hundreds of thousands fled the country following violence and attacks by various armed groups over the years.

President Donald Trump made a surprise visit to Iraq on Wednesday, making it his first trip to US troops deployed in a war zone since being elected two years ago.


The President landed at 7:16 pm local time at Al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq, accompanied by his wife Melania Trump where he spoke to troops and met with military leaders.
“President Trump and the First Lady traveled to Iraq late on Christmas night to visit with our troops and Senior Military leadership to thank them for their service, their success, and their sacrifice and to wish them a Merry Christmas,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders tweeted.

Presidential trips to boost troop morale have been a longstanding tradition in the years of war following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and Trump has taken considerable criticism for declining until now to experience a war zone.

Uganda internet service providers finally blocked pornography websites in fulfilment of a directive issued by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

Pornhub, Xvideos and Youporn are among 25 of the 27 banned websites that cannot be accessed on mobile phones in the East African Community (EAC) member state.

VPN ACCESS
The Daily Monitor reports that the three blue-video sites were among the top 100 most visited websites in Uganda before the ban took effect.

Some of the sites were carrying leaked nude videos of Ugandan celebrities and others have been dealing in escort services (those that advertise sex workers).

The banned websites have been providing pornographic material for free.

However, users of Virtual Private Network (VPN) can access the banned sites.

There are also other websites that are acting as proxies for the banned pornography sites.

The chairperson of the Pornography Control Committee, Dr Annette Kezaabu, said there is a drop in the number of people accessing pornography after they blocked the prominent porn sites.

The Ondo State government has warned residents against yellow fever outbreak in several parts of the country.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, in a statement said the residents should be proactive as the outbreak had spread to neighbouring states; a situation he says calls for serious concern.

Adegbenro described yellow fever as a serious viral infection that can affect all ages, and usually transmitted by mosquitoes.

He listed some of its symptoms to include fever, body ache, vomiting, yellowness of the eyes and bleeding, in serious cases, and urged residents to avoid self-medication but report to the nearest hospital when they notice any of the aforementioned symptoms.

The commissioner advised residents to maintain proper hygiene in their environment, sleep under mosquito nets; and called on health workers to be at alert, investigate all feverish cases and alert appropriate authorities when there is any suspected case.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep shock over the killing of military personnel in Metele village of Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists.

The President said immediate measures are being taken to ensure that the loopholes which led to the fatalities are blocked once and for all and vowed that the country would overcome the Boko Haram insurgency.

President Buhari’s reaction to the attack which reportedly left many soldiers dead was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity on Saturday, six days after the deadly attack.
