the probability of picking a box at random with gold = 2/3
the probability of picking another gold from the 2 boxes with gold = 1/2
therefore, the probability of picking another gold = 1/2 of 2/3
1/2 * 2/3 = 1/3

The answer should be 1/3

Since you're picking two gold ball in same box without replacement

The greatest thinker of our time! Your logic is flawed, you don’t seem to get it. You are like the current government who impose taxes and anti people’s policies and forcing everyone to obey it!

You can’t force your ideology on everyone especially using derogatory languages to pass a message. It is stupidity at the highest point, your reasoning should let you know that.

Answer is definitely 1/2 without a shadow of a doubt. Simplest way to view it is: Work out probability of getting a gold for each of 3 boxes and then simply add them together..... for box1= (1/3)x(1 ). . for box 2=(1/3)x(1/2) for box3=(1/3)x(0) When the probabilitys of the three boxes are summed up you get the answer which is 1/2.

Wrong solution and so your answer is flawed.

Just a math problem and the OP is using it to quantify the reasoning of his catch points (readers) IQ.

We’ve got different branches of Mathematics. If the OP is so fly the he is mathematically inclined, there are lots of math problems unsolved that he can solve to win the noble peace prize, like The Collatz Conjecture, Reinmann Hypothesis etc!

It is wrong to analyze people’s IQ through only mathematical problems. Please be guided!

It is so sad that none of you can think. This thread was first opened in Politics to determine if the average poster has any single shred of cognitive reasoning.

This is a simple diagram I created to show you how to solve it.

This goes beyond maths.

It is a logic question of determining an outcome from the basic concept of elimination.

All those who used probability to solve it failed woefully.

Probability of first ball being gold = 3/6
After removing the first ball, we are left with five balls with two being gold.
The probability of picking a gold ball again after picking gold the first time will be = 3/6×2/5
=6/30
=1/5.

Did anybody ask you to calculate the probability of picking a gold ball first?

I'm looking beyond the balls to focus on the box instead.
Choose same box twice.
The reason for me doing this is that the question is really centered on the box. By eliminating two boxes from the question, it's quite obvious their balls don't count.

Here is my explanation for test 1 assuming randomized boxes after 1st gold pick. Answer = 1/3 :

1. You start with one state. Lets call this state the /GS/SS state.

2. After picking a gold ball (P = 2/3), you now have two possible states: (1) /S/SS state OR (2) G/GS/SS state. The (1) is the state if the gold ball was picked from the GS box. And the (2) state is if the gold ball was picked from the box.

3. Assuming we are only interested in what happens after the 1st gold ball was picked. Then the probability of picking a second gold ball from the same box = (a) the prob. of picking from the same box in the /S/SS state + (a) the prob. of picking from the same box in the G/GS/SS state.

(a) = 0 since the same box only have a silver ball in it. (b) = 1/3 since the same box has one gold ball left in it and the prob. of picking that box is still 1/3.

Therefore the answer is: 0 + 1/3 = 1/3

Here is my explanation for test 2 answer 3/4 :

this is simply the probability of 25% been the answer (2/4) plus the probability of the correct answer if 25% is not the answer (1/4). Put in another way, basically, if 25% is NOT the answer then 3 of the options are wrong so that means the probability of getting right is 1/4. But if 25% is the answer then only 2 of the options are wrong, that means the probability of getting right is 2/4. The sum gives you 3/4.

Waiting for Test 3.

Firstly, since the first ball you selected is gold, then you are likely to have selected from either of 2 boxes.
Secondly, since you are thinking of selecting another gold ball, then your concern is on 1 box i.e. box with
Hence, the Pr(selecting another gold ball) = number of box with /total number of boxes = 1/3

The canceled, how true is that? I believe Nigerians are strong willed people who want to have their ways personally. I think Nigerians are very disobedient.

Please prove me wrong.

Maybe in the south where they all see themselves as equals and do everything in their power to pull each other down.

But consider, that these same southerners will do anything to worship and slave for a northern president.

Obasanjo and GEJ are examples of how southern Nigerians abhor their own.

Abacha and Buhari are good examples of how southerners worship their slave masters.

The probability is 1

In normal circumstances, life provides a binary option of 1 or 0.

But there is no certainty for certain so that's the reason we invented probability.

I think that's your personal belief. I'm a youth & am ready for change.

I got other mofos giving their all to reflect lasting change in Nigeria & Africa.

So, its a personal decision to be a vessel of change.

Its a long stretch, but Nigerians are who they are because they have almost zero role models and good leaders.

The slim chance Nigeria can turn around is because Nigerians are like sheep and have herd mentality. Give them a bad leader, they will follow him. Provide good honest leadership while eliminating the serpents that will want to sway them away from the light and things may turn around.

Nigerians are very easy to govern. If they weren't, they would have been up in arms and pitchforks knocking on the gates of Aso Rock.

I think the op is trying to point at the Nigerian Influence on the African States. I think Nigeria is the most influential African Nation in the world, the most gifted set of Blacks in the Universe. Aside the Nigerian population and natural resources, I think Nigerians are the most gifted intellectual beings in Africa. Throw Nigerians in conducive environments and watch his inherent qualities explode.

Back to your valid point of "inferior mentality" of Africans. No doubt, Africans are suffering from what I call "Retrogressive Fundamental Mindset". The African mind was programmed to operate in a backward manner. A fearful mindset, a mind afraid of the future, a mind that fears the unknown, a mind that is afraid to progress.

I think the African Mindset is as a Consequence of the Slave Trade in the past. For example, If you want to drive the calmest person crazy, lock him up in a very dark dungeon for 2 months and see what becomes of him. If you want to turn an honest child to a thief, accuse him of stealing several times and see him become a real thief. There is more to why Africans are the way we are, unfortunately, history doesn't favor us.

If you study the black man well, you'll discover Black Africans aren't the only ones living with inferior mentality. Blacks all around the world have a compound problem of inferior mentality.

So my conclusion is, in other to get Africans/Blacks back to critical thinking, there must be an African Nation that spearhead the change and Nigeria have all it takes to lead the Black Nations back to the forefront.
If the most intellectual Black people fail to take responsibility of steering Africa back to Greatness, we might have to wait a long time on the other side before witnessing the African Renaissance.

If the most diverse and heavily populated, human and resource rich nation in Africa can't get it right, then no other will.

But the question says I can't see the box?

What's is the probability that I picked the Gold ball self, at first.

Did anybody ask you the probability of picking a gold ball first?

You see why I said comprehension and a narrowed thinking set was your problem.
Education / Re: If You Fail This Test, Then Stop Posting Here by APCLyingBastard: 10:56pm On May 23, 2020
Ok, Sammy07, lets try this angle.

The 66 % answer is based on you being able to change the box after the first pick.

The question posed originally states clearly: you take the next ball from the same box.

This would mean you basically have two sets of boxes instead of three, which would mean the probability is indeed 50 %. If you can switch boxes it's 66 % as you presented.

If this doesn't help then nothing will.

Here is another way to view it.

It's not 1/2 because you are more likely to have picked the left box than the middle one in pjhase 1, given that you got a gold one to begin with. Had you picked the middle one in ph1, half of the time you wouldnt be able to proceed with the problem because you'd have grabbed a grey one.

There are 6 outcomes, all equally likely, in part 1 - you pick:
Left box, left ball
Left box, right ball
Middle box, left ball
Middle box, right ball
Right box, left ball
Right box, right ball

Since you know you achieved gold though, we know only 3 of those outcomes could actually have happened:
Left box, left ball
Left box, right ball
Middle box, left ball

If you picked either of the left box options, you will grab the other in the second phase, which is gold. If you picked the midde box in ph1, you will grab a grey ball in ph2 and fail. 2 of those 3 possibilities result in success - so the odds are 2/3

Stop thinking linearly.

The only thing you are to consider is which of the boxes with at least one yellow ball did you first draw from.

The question is supposed to be from your second draw.
Education / Re: If You Fail This Test, Then Stop Posting Here by APCLyingBastard: 10:52pm On May 23, 2020
Sammy07:

Sir, we're talking about probablity of picking gold ball.
You shouldn't label box instead you should label the balls.
Well have two gold balls in a box, while will you then label the box.

There are 6 balls; Box 1 contains balls A and B, both gold. Box 2 contains C and D; C is gold, D is silver. Box 3 contains E and F, both silver.

You picked a ball. It's gold. It could be Ball A, B, or C. You don't know which.

If it's Ball A, the other ball in the box is gold.
If it's Ball B, the other ball in the box is gold.
If it's Ball C, the other ball in the box is silver.

2 out of 3 possibilities, the other ball is gold.

So, I still disagree that it's 1/2

You need to think outside the box.

Forget counting the balls that are remaining.

The question that was posed to you was:

What is the probability of drawing a yellow ball from the same box?

You have eliminated the box containing the two silver balls.

You are left with box A and Box B

Either of these 2 boxes contains two yellow balls and the other a silver and yellow ball.

That means you drew your first yellow ball from either A or B.

The question you are two ask yourself is did you draw from A or B the first time.
