there z always a chance of being correct so o% is out of the way remaining 3 options, two of which are the same, you either pick 25% or 50% i.e one of the two [1/2] giving us 50% as d correct option

IQ tests need to be mandatory to post here. So I am kicking it off with this very rudimentary test.

Provide reasons for your answer.

See pic below for test.

Probability of first ball being gold = 3/6
After removing the first ball, we are left with five balls with two being gold.
The probability of picking a gold ball again after picking gold the first time will be = 3/6×2/5
=6/30
=1/5.

Re: If You Fail This Test, Then Stop Posting Here by Edopesin: 9:20am On May 24, 2020
I've always hated probability Sha but I think the answer is 1/2

If you pick the first gold ball then definitely you know one of the other two boxes have no gold balls and the probability of picking another gold is 1/2 cause you either get a gold or get a silver

Re: If You Fail This Test, Then Stop Posting Here by BrutusOj(m): 9:22am On May 24, 2020
We make maths look difficult for learners most times.
Simple solution:
Probability of picking a gold ball twice =
P(ist gold in first box) = 1/2
P(2nd gold in the first box) = 1

P(ist gold in second box) =1/2
P(2nd gold in second box) =0

P(gold in third box) =0

Now, P() = P( in first box) or P( in second box) or P( in third box)
Therefore P() = (1/2)×(1) + (1/2) ×(0) + (0)
P() = 1/2+0+0
P() = 1/2

Answer is definitely 1/2 without a shadow of a doubt. Simplest way to view it is: Work out probability of getting a gold for each of 3 boxes and then simply add them together..... for box1= (1/3)x(1 ). . for box 2=(1/3)x(1/2) for box3=(1/3)x(0) When the probabilitys of the three boxes are summed up you get the answer which is 1/2.

The first ball you picked is it with or without replacement?
Re: If You Fail This Test, Then Stop Posting Here by Campquest: 9:54am On May 24, 2020
The question is supposed to trick you into saying 50% chance. However, I think the answer is 2/3, since the fact that you picked a Gold ball implies a 2x likelihood that you’re in the box than the GS box. This is the same as that famous question with the doors.

The other way to look at this is to realize that the first pick has 6 distinct balls that you can pick. The fact that the balls are in 3 boxes doesn’t affect the 1/6 likelihood that you will pick any one of the 6 balls. Of course, the second pick is dependent on the first pick.

Let’s say the balls are organized as such: [1, 2] [3, 4] [5, 6], or [G G] [G S] [S S]. You have picked one of balls 1, 2, 3. So, the possible second picks are 2, 1, 4 two of which are G and one is S.

Just a math problem and the OP is using it to quantify the reasoning of his catch points (readers) IQ.

We’ve got different branches of Mathematics. If the OP is so fly the he is mathematically inclined, there are lots of math problems unsolved that he can solve to win the noble peace prize, like The Collatz Conjecture, Reinmann Hypothesis etc!

It is wrong to analyze people’s IQ through only mathematical problems. Please be guided!

Did anybody ask you to calculate the probability of picking a gold ball first?

This goes beyond maths.

It is a logic question of determining an outcome from the basic concept of elimination.

All those who used probability to solve it failed woefully.

It is so sad that none of you can think. This thread was first opened in Politics to determine if the average poster has any single shred of cognitive reasoning.

This is a simple diagram I created to show you how to solve it.

The greatest thinker of our time! Your logic is flawed, you don’t seem to get it. You are like the current government who impose taxes and anti people’s policies and forcing everyone to obey it!

You can’t force your ideology on everyone especially using derogatory languages to pass a message. It is stupidity at the highest point, your reasoning should let you know that.

The answer should be 1/3
Since you're picking two gold ball in same box without replacement

the probability of picking a box at random with gold = 2/3 the probability of picking another gold from the 2 boxes with gold = 1/2 therefore, the probability of picking another gold = 1/2 of 2/3 1/2 * 2/3 = 1/3

the probability of picking a box at random with gold = 2/3
the probability of picking another gold from the 2 boxes with gold = 1/2
therefore, the probability of picking another gold = 1/2 of 2/3
1/2 * 2/3 = 1/3

Re: If You Fail This Test, Then Stop Posting Here by emae009(m): 12:37pm On May 24, 2020
The OP is correct, the answer to the first test is 1/2 or 50%. Let me simplify it:
1) after eliminating box SS by picking a G ball.
2) you're left with 2 boxes: & GS.
here lies the logic:
3) if you picked the G ball from box , then the probability of picking another G ball is 1 since you're picking from the same box again.
4) if you picked the G ball from box GS, then the probability of picking another G ball is 0 since you're picking from the same box again.
so therefore we have two outcomes; it's either you pick a G ball or you don't pick a G ball so the answer becomes 1/2 or 50%
